Fully revisited version. Proven general theorem characterizing base forms as intersection of coinvariant and horizontal forms (in the affine and projective setting). Added section on exact sequence of calculi characterizing graded Hopf--Galois extensions with compatible differential. New and improved examples
We propose a sheaf-theoretic approach to the theory of differential calculi on quantum principal bundles over non-affine bases. After recalling the affine case we define differential calculi on sheaves of comodule algebras as sheaves of covariant bimodules together with a morphism of sheaves -- the differential -- such that the Leibniz rule and surjectivity hold locally. The main class of examples is given by covariant calculi over quantum flag manifolds, which we provide via an explicit Ore extension construction. In a second step we introduce principal covariant calculi by requiring a local compatibility of the calculi on the total sheaf, base sheaf and the structure Hopf algebra in terms of exact sequences. In this case Hopf--Galois extensions of algebras lift to Hopf--Galois extensions of exterior algebras with compatible differentials. In particular, the examples of principal (covariant) calculi on the quantum principal bundles $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ and $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ over the projective space $\mathrm{P}^1(\mathbb{C})$ are discussed in detail.
In analogy with the geometric situation, we study real calculi over projective modules and show that they can be realized as projections of free real calculi. Moreover, we consider real calculi over matrix algebras and discuss several aspects of the classification problem for real calculi in this case, leading to the concept of quasi-equivalence of matrix representations. We also use matrix algebras to give concrete examples of real calculi where the module is projective, and show that the existence of a Levi-Civita connection depends on the eigenvectors of specific anti-hermitian matrices in …
We introduce a general framework for associating to a homogeneous quantum principal bundle a Yetter-Drinfeld module structure on the cotangent space of the base calculus. The holomorphic and anti-holomorphic Heckenberger-Kolb calculi of the quantum Grassmannians are then presented in this framework. This allows us to express the calculi in terms of the corresponding Nichols algebras. The extension of this result to all irreducible quantum flag manifolds is then conjectured.
We investigate covariant first order differential calculi on the quantum complex projective spaces CP_q^{N-1} which are quantum homogeneous spaces for the quantum group SU_q(N). Hereby, one more well-studied example of covariant first order differential calculus on a quantum homogeneous space is given. Since the complex projective spaces are subalgebras of the quantum spheres S_q^{2N-1} introduced by Vaksman and Soibelman, we get also an example of the relations between covariant differential calculus on two closely related quantum spaces. Two approaches are combined in obtaining covariant fir…
We propose a conceptually economical and computationally tractable completion of the foundations of gauge theory on quantum principal bundles à la Brzeziński--Majid to the case of general differential calculi and strong bimodule connections. In particular, we use explicit groupoid equivalences to reframe the basic concepts of gauge theory -- gauge transformation, gauge potential, and field strength -- in terms of reconstruction of calculi on the total space (to second order) from given calculi on the structure quantum group and base, respectively. We therefore construct gauge-equivariant modul…
We study some aspects of the theory of non-commutative differential calculi over complex algebras, especially over the Hopf algebras associated to compact quantum groups in the sense of S.L. Woronowicz. Our principal emphasis is on the theory of twisted graded traces and their associated twisted cyclic cocycles. One of our principal results is a new method of constructing differential calculi, using twisted graded traces.
Differential calculi are obtained for quantum homogeneous spaces by extending Woronowicz' approach to the present context. Representation theoretical properties of the differential calculi are investigated. Connections on quantum homogeneous vector bundles are classified and explicitly constructed by using the theory of projective modules.
We study *-differential calculi over compact quantum groups in the sense of S.L. Woronowicz. Our principal results are the construction of a Hodge operator commuting with the Laplacian, the derivation of a corresponding Hodge decomposition of the calculus of forms, and, for Woronowicz' first calculus, the calculation of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian
We establish a noncommutative generalisation of the Borel-Weil theorem for the Heckenberger-Kolb calculi of the quantum Grassmannians. The result is formulated in the framework of quantum principal bundles and noncommutative complex structures, and generalises previous work of a number of authors on quantum projective space. As a direct consequence we get a novel noncommutative differential geometric presentation of the twisted Grassmannian coordinate ring studied in noncommutative projective geometry. A number of applications to the noncommutative Kähler geometry of the quantum Grassmannians …
A method of constructing (finitely generated and projective) right module structure on a finitely generated projective left module over an algebra is presented. This leads to a construction of a first order differential calculus on such a module which admits a hom-connection or a divergence. Properties of integrals associated to this divergence are studied, in particular the formula of integration by parts is derived. Specific examples include inner calculi on a noncommutative algebra, the Berezin integral on the supercircle and integrals on Hopf algebras.
We construct a differential calculus over the noncommutative 4-sphere in the framework of pseudo-Riemannian calculi, and show that for every metric in a conformal class of perturbations of the round metric, there exists a unique metric and torsion-free connection. Furthermore, we find a localization of the projective module corresponding to the space of vector fields, which allows us to formulate a Gauss-Chern-Bonnet type theorem for the noncommutative 4-sphere.
Quantum affine bundles are quantum principal bundles with affine quantum structure groups. A general theory of quantum affine bundles is presented. In particular, a detailed analysis of differential calculi over these bundles is performed, including the description of a natural differential calculus over the structure affine quantum group. A particular attention is given to the study of the specific properties of quantum affine connections and several purely quantum phenomena appearing in the context of quantum affine bundles. Various interesting constructions are presented. In particular, the…
We generalize to quantum weighted projective spaces in any dimension previous results of us on K-theory and K-homology of quantum projective spaces `tout court'. For a class of such spaces, we explicitly construct families of Fredholm modules, both bounded and unbounded (that is spectral triples), and prove that they are linearly independent in the K-homology of the corresponding C*-algebra. We also show that the quantum weighted projective spaces are base spaces of quantum principal circle bundles whose total spaces are quantum lens spaces. We construct finitely generated projective modules a…
Two hierarchies of quantum principal bundles over quantum real projective spaces are constructed. One hierarchy contains bundles with U(1) as a structure group, the other has the quantum group $SU_q(2)$ as a fibre. Both hierarchies are obtained by the process of prolongation from bundles with the cyclic group of order 2 as a fibre. The triviality or otherwise of these bundles is determined by using a general criterion for a prolongation of a comodule algebra to be a cleft Hopf-Galois extension.
The algebraic approach to bundles in non-commutative geometry and the definition of quantum real weighted projective spaces are reviewed. Principal U(1)-bundles over quantum real weighted projective spaces are constructed. As the spaces in question fall into two separate classes, the {\em negative} or {\em odd} class that generalises quantum real projective planes and the {\em positive} or {\em even} class that generalises the quantum disc, so do the constructed principal bundles. In the negative case the principal bundle is proven to be non-trivial and associated projective modules are descri…
We introduce $(σ,τ)$-algebras as a framework for twisted differential calculi over noncommutative, as well as commutative, algebras with motivations from the theory of $σ$-derivations and quantum groups. A $(σ,τ)$-algebra consists of an associative algebra together with a set of $(σ,τ)$-derivations, and corresponding notions of $(σ,τ)$-modules and connections are introduced. We prove that $(σ,τ)$-connections exist on projective modules, and introduce notions of both torsion and curvature, as well as compatibility with a hermitian form, leading to the definition of a Levi-Civita $(σ,τ)$-connect…
We realise Heckenberger and Kolb's canonical calculus on quantum projective (n-1)-space as the restriction of a distinguished quotient of the standard bicovariant calculus for Cq[SUn]. We introduce a calculus on the quantum (2n-1)-sphere in the same way. With respect to these choices of calculi, we present quantum projective (N-1)-space as the base space of two different quantum principal bundles, one with total space Cq[SUn], and the other with total space Cq[S^(2n-1)]. We go on to give Cq[CP^n] the structure of a quantum framed manifold. More specifically, we describe the module of one-forms…
The Dirac q-monopole connection is used to compute projector matrices of quantum Hopf line bundles for arbitrary winding number. The Chern-Connes pairing of cyclic cohomology and K-theory is computed for the winding number -1. The non-triviality of this pairing is used to conclude that the quantum principal Hopf fibration is non-cleft. Among general results, we provide a left-right symmetric characterization of the canonical strong connections on quantum principal homogeneous spaces with an injective antipode. We also provide for arbitrary strong connections on algebraic quantum principal bund…
It is shown that the coordinate algebra of the quantum $2n+1$-dimensional lens space $\mathcal{O}(L^{2n+1}_q(\prod_{i=0}^n m_i; m_0,\ldots, m_n))$ is a principal $\mathbb{Z}$-comodule algebra or the coordinate algebra of a circle principal bundle over the weighted quantum projective space $\mathbb{WP}^n_q(m_0,\ldots, m_n)$. Furthermore, the weighted $U(1)$-action or the $\mathbb{CZ}$-coaction on the quantum odd dimensional sphere algebra $\mathcal{O}(S^{2n+1}_q)$ that defines $\mathbb{WP}^n_q(1,m_1,\ldots, m_n)$ is free or principal. Analogous results are proven for quantum real weighted proje…
We describe the structure of the Grothendieck ring of projective modules of basic Hopf algebras using a positive integer determined by the composition series of the principal indecomposable projective module.
A self Morita equivalence over an algebra B, given by a B-bimodule E, is thought of as a line bundle over B. The corresponding Pimsner algebra O_E is then the total space algebra of a noncommutative principal circle bundle over B. A natural Gysin-like sequence relates the KK-theories of O_E and of B. Interesting examples come from O_E a quantum lens space over B a quantum weighted projective line (with arbitrary weights). The KK-theory of these spaces is explicitly computed and natural generators are exhibited.
It was recently shown (by the second author and Díaz García, Krutov, Somberg, and Strung) that every relative line module over an irreducible quantum flag manifold $\mathcal{O}_q(G/L_S)$ admits a unique $\mathcal{O}_q(G)$-covariant connection with respect to the Heckenberger-Kolb differential calculus $Ω^1_q(G/L_S)$. In this paper we show that these connections are bimodule connections with an invertible associated bimodule map. This is proved by applying general results of Beggs and Majid, on principal connections for quantum principal bundles, to the quantum principal bundle presentation of …
Let Γbe one of the N^2-dimensional bicovariant first order differential calculi on the orthogonal or symplectic quantum group O_q(N) or Sp_q(N). The parameter q is not a root of unity. We show that the second antisymmetrizer exterior algebra is the quotient of the universal exterior algebra U by the principal ideal generated by w^2. Here w denotes the unique up to scalars bi-invariant 1-form. Moreover w^2 is central in U and U is an inner differential calculus.
We study certain principal actions on noncommutative C*-algebras. Our main examples are the Z_p- and T-actions on the odd-dimensional quantum spheres, yielding as fixed-point algebras quantum lens spaces and quantum complex projective spaces, respectively. The key tool in our analysis is the relation of the ambient C*-algebras with the Cuntz-Krieger algebras of directed graphs. A general result about the principality of the gauge action on graph algebras is given.
A comodule algebra P over a Hopf algebra H with bijective antipode is called principal if the coaction of H is Galois and P is H-equivariantly projective (faithfully flat) over the coaction-invariant subalgebra B. We prove that principality is a piecewise property: given N comodule-algebra surjections P->Pi whose kernels intersect to zero, P is principal if and only if all Pi's are principal. Furthermore, assuming the principality of P, we show that the lattice these kernels generate is distributive if and only if so is the lattice obtained by intersection with B. Finally, assuming the above d…
We construct noncommutative `Riemannian manifold' structures on dual quasitriangular Hopf algebras such as $C_q[SU_2]$ with its standard bicovariant differential calculus, using the quantum frame bundle formalism introduced previously. The metric is provided by the braided-Killing form on the braided-Lie algebra on the tangent space and the $n$-bein by the Maurer-Cartan form. We also apply the theory to finite sets and in particular to finite group function algebras $C[G]$ with differential calculi and Killing forms determined by a conjugacy class. The case of the permutation group $C[S_3]$ is…
Algebras of functions on quantum weighted projective spaces are introduced, and the structure of quantum weighted projective lines or quantum teardrops are described in detail. In particular the presentation of the coordinate algebra of the quantum teardrop in terms of generators and relations and classification of irreducible *-representations are derived. The algebras are then analysed from the point of view of Hopf-Galois theory or the theory of quantum principal bundles. Fredholm modules and associated traces are constructed. C*-algebras of continuous functions on quantum weighted projecti…
Over the quantum weighted 1-dimensional complex projective spaces, called quantum teardrops, the quantum line bundles associated with the quantum principal U(1)-bundles introduced and studied by Brzezinski and Fairfax are explicitly identified among the finitely generated projective modules which are classified up to isomorphism. The quantum lens space in which these quantum line bundles are embedded is realized as a concrete groupoid C*-algebra.
We construct covariant $q$-deformed holomorphic structures for all finitely-generated relative Hopf modules over the irreducible quantum flag manifolds endowed with their Heckenberger--Kolb calculi. In the classical limit these reduce to modules of sections of holomorphic homogeneous vector bundles over irreducible flag manifolds. For the case of simple relative Hopf modules, we show that this covariant holomorphic structure is unique. This generalises earlier work of Majid, Khalkhali, Landi, and van Suijlekom for line modules of the Podleś sphere, and subsequent work of Khalkhali and Moatadel…
