A characterization of continuous $q$-Jacobi, Chebyshev of the first kind and Al-Salam Chihara polynomials

The purpose of this note is to characterize those orthogonal polynomials sequences $(P_n)_{n\geq0}$ for which $$ π(x)\mathcal{D}_q P_n(x)=(a_n x+b_n)P_n(x)+c_n P_{n-1}(x),\quad n=0,1,2,\dots, $$ where $\mathcal{D}_q$ is the Askey-Wilson operator, $π$ is a polynomial of degree at most 2, and $(a_n)_{n\geq0}$, $(b_n)_{n\geq0}$ and $(c_n)_{n\geq0}$ are sequences of complex numbers such that $c_n\neq0$ for $n=1,2,\dots$.

Probabilistic aspects of Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials

We solve the connection coefficient problem between the Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials and the q-Hermite polynomials, and we use the resulting identity to answer a question from probability theory. We also derive the distribution of some Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials, and compute determinants of related Hankel matrices.

A solution to the Al-Salam--Chihara moment problem

We study the $q$-hypergeometric difference operator $L$ on a particular Hilbert space. In this setting $L$ can be considered as an extension of the Jacobi operator for $q^{-1}$-Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials. Spectral analysis leads to unitarity and an explicit inverse of a $q$-analog of the Jacobi function transform. As a consequence a solution of the Al-Salam--Chihara indeterminate moment problem is obtained.

Self-adjoint difference operators and symmetric Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials

The symmetric Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials for $q>1$ are associated with an indeterminate moment problem. There is a self-adjoint second order difference operator on $\ell^2(\Z)$ to which these polynomials are eigenfunctions. We determine the spectral decomposition of this self-adjoint operator. This leads to a class of discrete orthogonality measures, which have been obtained previously by Christiansen and Ismail using a different method, and we give an explicit orthogonal basis for the corresponding weighted $\ell^2$-space. The Combinatorics of Al-Salam-Chihara $q$-Laguerre polynomials

We describe various aspects of the Al-Salam-Chihara $q$-Laguerre polynomials. These include combinatorial descriptions of the polynomials, the moments, the orthogonality relation and a combinatorial interpretation of the linearization coefficients. It is remarkable that the corresponding moment sequence appears also in the recent work of Postnikov and Williams on enumeration of totally positive Grassmann cells.

On summable, positive Poisson-Mehler kernels built of Al-Salam--Chihara and related polynomials

Using special technique of expanding ratio of densities in an infinite series of polynomials orthogonal with respect to one of the densities, we obtain simple, closed forms of certain kernels built of the so called Al-Salam-Chihara (ASC) polynomials. We consider also kernels built of some other families of polynomials such as the so called big continuous q-Hermite polynomials that are related to the ASC polynomials. Multiple Askey-Wilson polynomials and related basic hypergeometric multiple orthogonal polynomials

We first show how one can obtain Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials, continuous dual $q$-Hahn polynomials, and Askey--Wilson polynomials from the little $q$-Laguerre and the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials by using special transformations. This procedure is then extended to obtain multiple Askey--Wilson, multiple continuous dual $q$-Hahn, and multiple Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials from the multiple little $q$-Laguerre and the multiple little $q$-Jacobi polynomials.

Contiguous relations, basic hypergeometric functions, and orthogonal polynomials : III. associated continuous dual q-Hahn polynomials

Explicit solutions for the three-term recurrence satisfied by associated continuous dual $q$-Hahn polynomials are obtained. A minimal solution is identified and an explicit expression for the related continued fraction is derived. The absolutely continuous component of the spectral measure is obtained. Eleven limit cases are discussed in some detail. These include associated big $q$-Laguerre , associated Wall, associated Al-Salam-Chihara, associated Al-Salam-Carlitz I, and associated continuous $q$-Hermite polynomials.

On diagonalizable quantum weighted Hankel matrices

A semi-infinite weighted Hankel matrix with entries defined in terms of basic hypergeometric series is explicitly diagonalized as an operator on $\ell^{2}(\mathbb{N}_{0})$. Casoratian Identities for the Wilson and Askey-Wilson Polynomials

Infinitely many Casoratian identities are derived for the Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials in parallel to the Wronskian identities for the Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials, which were reported recently by the present authors.
