We present the influences of electronic and magnetic correlations and doping evolution on the groundstate properties of recently discovered superconductor Ba$_{2}$CuO$_{4-δ}$ by utilizing the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave boson method. Starting with an effective two-orbital Hubbard model (Scalapino {\it et al.} Phys. Rev. {\bf B 99}, 224515 (2019)), we demonstrate that with increasing doping concentration, the paramagnetic (PM) system evolves from two-band character to single-band ones around the electron filling n=2.5, with the band nature of the $d_{3z^{2}-r^{2}}$ and $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ orbitals to the $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ orbital, slightly affected when the electronic correlation U varies from 2 to 4 eV. Considering the magnetic correlations, the system displays one antiferromagnetically metallic (AFM) phase in $2<n<2.16$ and a PM phase in $n>2.16$ at U=2 eV, or two AFM phases in $2<n<2.57$ and $2.76<n<3$, and a PM phase in $2.57<n<2.76$ respectively, at U=4 eV. Our results show that near realistic superconducting state around n=2.6 the intermediate correlated Ba$_{2}$CuO$_{3,2}$ should be single band character, and the s-wave superconducting
pairing strength becomes significant when U$>$2 eV, and crosses over to d-wave when U$>$2.2 eV.
We carefully studied the nonsuperconducting sample of the magneto-superconducting RuSr2(Eu1-xCex)Cu2O10 series with composition RuSr2EuCeCu2O10. This compound seems to exhibit a complex magnetic state as revealed by host of techniques like resistivity, thermopower, magnetic susceptibility and MR measurements.
The metal-insulator crossover of the in-plane resistivity upon temperature decrease, recently observed in several classes of cuprate superconductors, when a strong magnetic field suppresses the superconductivity, is explained using the $U(1)\times SU(2)$ Chern-Simons gauge field theory. The origin of this crossover is the same as that for a similar phenomenon observed in heavily underdoped cuprates without magnetic field. It is due to the interplay between the diffusive motion of the charge carriers and the ``peculiar'' localization effect due to short-range antiferromagnetic order. We also ca…
Superconductivity in the Hubbard model on a square lattice near half filling is studied using an optimization (or correlated) variational Monte Carlo method. Second-order processes of the strong-coupling expansion are considered in the wave functions beyond the Gutzwiller factor. Superconductivity of d_x^2-y^2-wave is widely stable, and exhibits a crossover around U=U_co\sim 12t from a BCS type to a new type. For U\gsim U_co (U\lsim U_co), the energy gain in the superconducting state is derived from the kinetic (potential) energy. Condensation energy is large and \propto exp(-t/J) [tiny] on th…

Intermetallic compounds containing f-electron elements display a wealth of superconducting phases, that are prime candidates for unconventional pairing with complex order parameter symmetries. For instance, superconductivity has been found at the border of magnetic order as well as deep within ferro- and antiferromagnetically ordered states, suggesting that magnetism may promote rather than destroy superconductivity. Superconductivity near valence transitions, or in the vicinity of magneto-polar order are candidates for new superconductive pairing interactions such as fluctuations of the condu…
In this study, we conducted various magnetotransport measurements on Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ single crystals from which excess iron was sufficiently removed. Our results revealed that crossover from the incoherent to the coherent electronic state and opening of the pseudogap occur at high temperatures ($\approx$ 150 K for $x$ = 0.2). This is accompanied by a more substantial pseudogap and the emergence of a phase with a multi-band nature at lower temperatures (below $\approx$ 50 K for $x$ = 0.2) before superconductivity sets in. A comparison of these results with those of the as-grown (no…
We report a systematic magnetotransport study of superconducting infinite-layer nickelate thin films Nd$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$NiO$_2$ with $0.15 \leq x \leq 0.225$. By suppressing superconductivity with out-of-plane magnetic fields up to 37.5 T, we find that the normal state resistivity of Nd$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$NiO$_2$ is characterized by a crossover from a metallic $T^2$-behavior to an insulating log(1/$T$)-behavior for all $x$ except $x = 0.225$, at which the resistivity is predominantly metallic. The log(1/$T$)-behavior is found to be robust against magnetic fields, inconsistent with scenarios involving l…
There is growing evidence that the superconducting semimetal FeSe ($T_c\sim8$ K) is in the crossover regime between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) limits. We report on longitudinal and transverse thermal conductivities, $κ_{xx}$ and $κ_{xy}$, respectively, in magnetic fields up to 20 T. The field dependences of $κ_{xx}$ and $κ_{xy}$ imply that a highly anisotropic small superconducting gap forms at the electron Fermi-surface pocket whereas a more isotropic and larger gap forms at the hole pocket. Below $\sim1.0$ K, both $κ_{xx}$…
Effects of superconducting fluctuation (SCF) on thermodynamic properties of electron systems in the so-called BCS-BEC-crossover regime are studied. As the attractive interaction between electrons becomes stronger upon approaching the BCS-BEC-crossover regime, importance of the mode coupling between SCF drastically increases. The enhanced mode coupling leads to lowering of both the zero-field superconducting critical temperature and the depairing field $B_\text{c2} (T)$. Consequently, SCF-induced contributions to the specific heat and the diamagnetic susceptibility can seemingly exceed the corr…
A new approach to the treatment of magnetic fluctuations in thin films of type I superconductors is introduced. Results for the dependence of free energy, specific heat and order parameter profile on the film thickness near the equilibrium phase transition point are obtained and discussed.
A unified theory is outlined for the cuprates, Fe-based, and related superconductors. Their low-energy excitations are approached in terms of auxiliary particles representing combinations of atomic-like electron configurations, and the introduction of a Lagrange Bose field enables their treatment as bosons or fermions. This theory correctly describes the observed phase diagram of the cuprates, including the non-Fermi-liquid to FL crossover in the normal state, the existence of Fermi arcs below T^* and of "marginal-FL" behavior above it. The anomalous behavior of numerous physical quantities is…
The transition metal carbide superconductor Sc3CoC4 may represent a new benchmark system of quasi-1D superconducting behavior. We investigate the superconducting transition of a high-quality single crystalline sample by electrical transport experiments. Our data show that the superconductor goes through a complex dimensional crossover below the onset Tc of 4.5 K. First, a quasi-1D fluctuating superconducting state with finite resistance forms in the CoC4 ribbons which are embedded in a Sc matrix in this material. At lower temperature, the transversal Josephson or proximity coupling of neighbor…
The physics of the crossover between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) limits gives a unified framework of quantum bound (superfluid) states of interacting fermions. This crossover has been studied in the ultracold atomic systems, but is extremely difficult to be realized for electrons in solids. Recently, the superconducting semimetal FeSe with a transition temperature $T_{\rm c}=8.5$ K has been found to be deep inside the BCS-BEC crossover regime. Here we report experimental signatures of preformed Cooper pairing in FeSe below $T…
X-band electron paramagnetic resonance on doped Er3+ and Yb3+ ions in Y0.99(Yb,Er)0.01Ba2Cu3OX compounds with different oxygen contents in the wide temperature range (4-120)K have been made. In the superconducting species, the strong dependencies of the linewidth and resonance line position from the sweep direction of the applied magnetic field are revealed at the temperatures significantly below TC. The possible origins of the observed hysteresis are analyzed. Applicability of the presented EPR approach to extract information about the dynamics of the flux-line lattice and critical state para…
The samples of composition RuSr2(Ln3/4Ce1/4)2Cu2O10 with Ln = Ho, Y and Dy. being synthesized by high pressure high temperature (6Gpa, 1200 0C) solid state synthesis route do crystallize in space group I4/mmm. These samples exhibit magnetic transitions at ~150 K with significant branching of zfc (zero-field-cooled) and fc (field-cooled) magnetization and a sharp cusp in zfc at ~ 100 K, followed by a superconducting transition at lower temperatures. All the compounds show typical ferromagnetic hysteresis loops in magnetic moment (M) versus field (H) magnetization at 5 K. Near saturation of the …
Single crystals of Ce2PdIn8 were studied by means of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and specific heat measurements. The compound was found to be a heavy fermion clean-limit superconductor with Tc = 0.68 K. Most remarkably, the superconductivity in this system emerges out of the antiferromagnetic state that sets in at TN = 10 K, and both cooperative phenomena coexist in a bulk at ambient pressure conditions.
We present evidence for unconventional superconducting fluctuations in a heavy-fermion compound CeNi$_2$Ge$_2$. The temperature dependence of the $^{73}$Ge nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation rate $1/T_1$ indicates the development of magnetic correlations and the formation of a Fermi-liquid state at temperatures lower than $T_{\rm FL}=0.4$ K, where $1/T_1T$ is constant. The resistance and $1/T_1T$ measured on an as-grown sample decrease below $T_{\rm c}^{\rm onset} = 0.2$ K and $T_{\rm c}^{\rm NQR} = 0.1$ K, respectively; these are indicative of the onset of superconductivity. However, after annea…
The in-plane $ρ_{ab}(H,T)$ and the out-of-plane $ρ_c(H,T)$ magneto-transport in magnetic fields up to 28 T has been investigated in high quality non-superconducting (down to 20 mK) La-free Bi$_{2+x}$Sr$_{2-x}$CuO$_{6+δ}$ single crystal. By measuring the angular dependence of the in-plane and out-of-plane magnetoresistivities at temperatures from 1 K down to 30 mK, we present evidence for the presence of vortex-like excitations in a non-superconducting cuprate in the insulating state. Such excitations have previously been observed by the detection of a Nernst signal in superconducting cuprates …
The order parameter and pairing mechanism for superconductivity in heavy fermion compounds are still poorly understood. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy at ultra-low temperatures can yield important information about the superconducting order parameter and the gap structure. Here, we study the first heavy fermion superconductor, CeCu_2Si_2. Our data show the superconducting gap which is not fully formed and exhibits features that point to a multi-gap order parameter. Spatial mapping of the zero bias conductance in magnetic field reveals the vortex lattice, which allows us to uneq…
We study LiFeP, LiFeAs and NaFeAs in their paramagnetic metallic phase including dynamical electronic correlations within a density functional theory + slave-spin mean-field framework. The three compounds are found to lie next to the crossover between a normal and a Hund's metal, where a region of enhanced electronic compressibility that may boost superconductivity is systematically present in this type of systems. We find that LiFeP lies in the normal metallic regime, LiFeAs at the crossover, and NaFeAs is in the Hund's metal regime, which possibly explains the different experimental trends f…
Non-centrosymmetric superconductors have recently attracted much attention, since the lack of inversion symmetry mixes spin singlet and triplet pairing states, which may allow the realization of topological superconductivity. In this work, we study the electronic properties of the family of inversion-broken CeTX$_3$ heavy-fermion superconductors, finding topological nodal lines as well as Dirac and Weyl points, which are renormalized closer to the Fermi energy by correlations. We find that the Weyl nodal lines have a substantial effect on the Fermi surface spin structure of the normal state, a…
We perform a detailed study of temperature, bias and doping dependance of interlayer transport in the layered high temperature superconductor Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$. We observe that the shape of interlayer characteristics in underdoped crystals exhibit a remarkable crossover at the superconducting transition temperature: from thermal activation-type at $T>T_c$, to almost $T-$independent quantum tunneling-type, at $T<T_c$. Our data indicates that the interlayer transport mechanism may change with doping: from the conventional single quasiparticle tunneling in overdoped, to a progressivel…
LaBaCaCu3O7 (La:1113) and NdBaCaCu3O7 (Nd:1113) compounds are synthesized by solid state reaction route. Both compounds crystallize in tetragonal structure. Four probe resistivity measurements showed that superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is 73 K and 41 K respectively for La:1113 and Nd:1113 compounds. Considering the fact that for RE:123 (REBa2Cu3O7) compounds the Tc hardly depends upon the choice of RE (Rare earth, except Ce, Pr and Tb), the current nearly two fold increase in Tc of La:1113 when compared to Nd:1113, warrants serious discussion.
The periodic response of a metallic or a superconducting ring to an external magnetic flux is one of the most evident manifestations of quantum mechanics. It is generally understood that the oscillation period hc/2e in the superconducting state is half the period hc/e in the metallic state, because the supercurrent is carried by Cooper pairs with a charge 2e. On the basis of the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory we discuss, in which cases this simple interpretation is valid and when a more careful analysis is needed. In fact, the knowledge of the oscillation period of the current in the ring pr…
RuSr2(LnCe2)Cu2O12.25 (Ru-1232) compounds with Ln = Y and Dy being synthesized by high pressure high temperature (6GPa, 12000C) solid state synthesis route do crystallize in space group P4/mmm in near single phase form with small quantities of SrRuO3 and RuSr2(RE1.5Ce0.5)Cu2O10 (Ru-1222). Both samples exhibit magnetic transitions (Tmag.) at ~90 K with significant branching of zfc (zero-field-cooled) and fc (field-cooled) magnetization and a sharp cusp in zfc at ~ 70 K, followed by superconducting transitions at ~ 30 K. Both compounds show typical ferromagnetic hysteresis loops in magnetic mome…
A comparative analysis of the properties of FeSe${}_{1-x}$Te${}_{x}$ crystals in the range of x values of about 0.4 and pure FeSe crystals is presented. We found that the anomaly in R (T) at the structural transition for the former differs significantly from the corresponding anomaly for the latter. This indicates a change in the type of the ground state in the studied compounds. Within the framework of the crystal field model, this can be explained as a consequence of a change in the distortion of the tetrahedral environment of iron, which leads to a change in the positions of the energy leve…
The recently observed (1) equipartition of current in parallel at and below the Normal-Superconducting (N-S) transition can be understood in terms of a Landau-Ginzburg order-parameter phenomenology. This complements the explanation proposed earlier (1) based on the flux-flow resistance providing a nonlinear negative current feedback towards equipartition when the transition is approached from above. The present treatment also unifies the usual textbook inductive subdivision expected much below T_c, and the equipartition as T_c is approached from below. The question of metastability is also bri…
To decipher the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity, it is important to know how the superconducting pairing emerges from the unusual normal states of cuprate superconductors, including pseudogap, anomalous Fermi liquid and strange metal (SM). A long-standing issue under debate is how the superconducting pairing is formed and condensed in the SM phase because the superconducting transition temperature is the highest in this phase. Here, we report the first experimental observation of a pressure-induced crossover from two- to three-dimensional superconducting states in the optimally…
The concept of a surface d- and bulk s-symmetry in cuprate superconductors is applied to recent small-angle neutron-scattering results. These show a change of hexagonal to square vortex lattice as a function of the magnetic field along the c-axis. Identifying the hexagonal lattice with s- and the square with d-symmetry, the crossover distance from the surface d to the bulk s perpendicular to the c-axis is estimated to be 35 nm for LSCO and roughly 7 nm for YBCO, both at optimum doping. The crossover along the c-axis has to be of only a few layers distance to reconcile tunneling, photoemission …
We study the superconducting transition in a two-dimensional electron gas with strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling. We assume low electron density, such that only the majority spin band participates in the transition. We show that the superconducting transition follows either the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC), or the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) scenarios, depending on the position of the chemical potential with respect to the bottom of the majority band, and the strength of the Coulomb repulsion between electrons. Hence, the BEC-BCS crossover in this system can be driven either by the cha…
We study dynamic ground state properties in the crossover from weak (BCS) to strong coupling (BEC) superfluidity. Our approach is based on the attractive Hubbard model which is analyzed by the dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) combined with the numerical renormalization group (NRG). We present an extension of the NRG method for effective impurity models to selfconsistent calculations with superconducting symmetry breaking. In the one particle spectra we show quantitatively how the Bogoliubov quasiparticles at weak coupling become suppressed at intermediate coupling. We also present results fo…
We have performed photoemission studies of the electronic structure in LiC$_6$ and KC$_8$, a non-superconducting and a superconducting graphite intercalation compound, respectively. We have found that the charge transfer from the intercalant layers to graphene layers is larger in KC$_8$ than in LiC$_6$, opposite of what might be expected from their chemical composition. We have also measured the strength of the electron-phonon interaction on the graphene-derived Fermi surface to carbon derived phonons in both materials and found that it follows a universal trend where the coupling strength and…
The in-plane $ρ_{ab}(H)$ and the out-of-plane $ρ_c(H)$ magneto-transport in magnetic fields up to 28 T has been investigated in a series of high quality, single crystal, hole-doped La-free Bi2201 cuprates for a wide doping range and over a wide range of temperatures down to 40 mK. With decreasing hole concentration going from the overdoped (p=0.2) to the underdoped (p=0.12) regimes, a crossover from a metallic to and insulating behavior of $ρ_{ab}(T)$ is observed in the low temperature normal state, resulting in a disorder induced metal insulator transition. In the zero temperature limit, the …
We report on a pressure($P$)-induced evolution of superconductivity and spin correlations in CeIrIn$_5$ via the $^{115}$In nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation rate measurements. We find that applying pressure suppresses dramatically the antiferromagnetic fluctuations that are strong at ambient pressure. At $P$ = 2.1 GPa, $T_{\rm c}$ increases to $T_{\rm c}$ = 0.8 K that is twice $T_{\rm c}$($P$ = 0 GPa), in the background of Fermi liquid state. This is in sharp contrast with the previous case in which negative, chemical pressure (replacing Ir with Rh) enhances magnetic interaction and increases $T…
We use the variational cluster approximation to study the superconducting ground state in the two-dimensional attractive Hubbard model, putting particular emphasis on the significance of quantum fluctuations of the system. We first show that the order parameter is suppressed in comparison with that obtained using the mean-field theory owing to the effects of spatial fluctuations in two-dimensional systems. We then show that the calculated Bogoliubov quasiparticle spectra and condensation amplitude clearly exhibit the character of Cooper pairs in momentum space and that the pair coherence lengt…
Superconducting and normal state properties of sputtered Niobium nanofilms have been systematically investigated, as a function of film thickness in a d=9-90 nm range, on different substrates. The width of the superconducting-to-normal transition for all films remained in few tens of mK, thus remarkably narrow, confirming their high quality. We found that the superconducting critical current density exhibits a pronounced maximum, three times larger than its bulk value, for film thickness around 25 nm, marking the 3D-to-2D crossover. The extracted magnetic penetration depth shows a sizeable enh…

Based on the five-orbital model, we derive the reduced impurity scattering rate $g=zγ/2πT_{c0}$ in Sm(Fe$_{1-x}$Ru$_{x}$)AsO$_{0.85}$F$_{0.15}$ from the residual resistivity. At $x=0$, the transition temperature is $T_{c0}=50$ K. For $0.05<x<0.36$ ($0.84>T_{c}/T_{c0}>0.3$) the obtained value of $g$ ranges from 1.5 to 2.9, which suggests that the $s_\pm$-wave state cannot survive. We point out that the magnetoresistance frequently gives an underestimated value of $g$ in correlated electron systems.
A microscopic mean-field theory of the phase coexistence between ferromagnetism and superconductivity in the weakly ferromagnetic itinerant electron system is constructed, while incorporating a realistic mechanism for superconducting pairing due to the exchange of critical spin fluctuations. The self-consistent solution of the resulting equations determines the superconducting transition temperature which is shown to depend strongly on the exchange splitting. The effect of phase crossover from isotropic (Heisenberg-like) to uniaxial (Ising-like) spin fluctuations near the quantum phase transit…
In their comment Calandra \textit{et al} \cite{Calandra}, assert two points: (1) the estimate of charge transfer from Li to graphene layers in LiC$_6$ in our letter \cite{Pan2011c} is incorrect because of the three dimensional (3D) character of the electronic structure in bulk LiC$_6$; (2) our main claim that the superconductivity in graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) is graphene-sheet-driven is therefore invalid.
To examine the thermodynamic properties of Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ compounds with metallic CuO double chains, we measured the specific heats of superconducting and non-superconducting polycrystalline samples at low temperatures (1.8-40 K) under various magnetic fields (up to 9 T). In the as-sintered non-superconducting sample, a $λ-$like enhancement in the specific heat measurement appeared near the antiferromagnetic transition temperature $T_{N}=17$ K. In contrast, the reduced superconducting sample with $T_{c,on}=26.5$ K exhibited no obvious superconducting anomaly in its specific…
In this paper we study the BCS Bose Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover scenario within the superconducting state, using a T-matrix approach which yields the ground state proposed by Leggett. Here we extend this ground state analysis to finite temperatures T and interpret the resulting physics. We find two types of bosonic-like excitations of the system: long lived, incoherent pair excitations and collective modes of the superconducting order parameter, which have different dynamics. Using a gauge invariant formalism, this paper addresses their contrasting behavior as a function of T and sup…
The BCS-BEC crossover is studied in a systematic way in the broken-symmetry phase between zero temperature and the critical temperature. This study bridges two regimes where quantum and thermal fluctuations are, respectively, important. The theory is implemented on physical grounds, by adopting a fermionic self-energy in the broken-symmetry phase that represents fermions coupled to superconducting fluctuations in weak coupling and to bosons described by the Bogoliubov theory in strong coupling. This extension of the theory beyond mean field proves important at finite temperature, to connect wi…
FeSe is argued as a superconductor in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer Bose-Einstein-condensation crossover regime where the superconducting-gap size and the superconducting transition temperature Tc are comparable to the Fermi energy. In this regime, vortex bound states should be well quantized and the preformed pairs above Tc may yield a pseudogap in the quasiparticle-excitation spectrum. We performed spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy to search for these features. We found Friedel-like oscillations near the vortex, which manifest the quantized levels, whereas the pseudogap was…
The electronic Raman scattering in overdoped (Y,Ca)Ba2Cu3Oy was investigated with changing hole concentration in the superconducting state. It was found that the superconducting responses such as the pair-breaking peaks in the A1g and B1g spectra and the anisotropy of the pair-breaking peak in XX and YY polarizations radically change at around the carrier doping p=0.19. Since both a- and c-axis resistivities strongly suggest the closing of pseudogap at p~0.18, the observed change at p=0.19 in superconducting Raman response is attributed to the electronic crossover due to the collapse of the ps…
Layered organic superconductors of the BEDT family are model systems for the interplay of the Mott transition with superconductivity, magnetic order and frustration. Recent experimental studies on a hole-doped version of BEDT compounds reveal an enhancement of superconductivity and a rapid crossover between two different conducting phases above the superconducting dome. One of these phases is a Fermi liquid, the other not. Using plaquette cellular dynamical mean field theory with state of the art continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo calculations, we study this problem with the two-dimensional H…
Newly discovered Bi-O-S compounds remain an enigma in attempts to understand their electronic properties. A recent study of Bi$_{4}$O$_{4}$S$_{3}$ has shown it to be a mixture of two phases, Bi$_{2}$OS$_{2}$ and Bi$_{3}$O$_{2}$S$_{3}$, the latter being superconducting [W. A. Phelan et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 135, 5372 (2013)]. Using density functional theory, we explore the electronic structure of both the phases and the effect of the introduction of stacking faults. Our results demonstrate that the S$_{2}$ layers dope the bismuth-sulphur bands. The bands at the Fermi level are of clear two-dim…
We find possible superconducting states for tetrahedral (Th) symmetry crystals with strong spin-orbit coupling using Landau theory. Additional symmetry breaking within the superconducting state is considered. We discuss nodes of the gap functions for the different states, secondary superconducting order parameters and coupling to the elastic strain. By comparing our results to experiments, we find that superconductivity in PrOs4Sb12 is best described by the three-dimensional representations of point group Th.
We study a possible superconductivity in quasiperiodic systems, by portraying the issue within the attractive Hubbard model on a Penrose lattice. Applying a real-space dynamical mean-field theory to the model consisting of 4181 sites, we find a superconducting phase at low temperatures. Reflecting the nonperiodicity of the Penrose lattice, the superconducting state exhibits an inhomogeneity. According to the type of the inhomogeneity, the superconducting phase is categorized into three different regions which cross over each other. Among them, the weak-coupling region exhibits spatially extend…
The aim of this Ph.D. thesis was to investigate superconducting properties in the presence of Zeeman magnetic field in systems with local fermion pairing on the lattice. The study also concerned the evolution from the weak coupling (BCS-like) limit to the strong coupling limit of tightly bound local pairs (BEC) with increasing attraction, both in the ground state and at finite temperatures, within the spin-polarized extended Hubbard model. The analysis was also extended to the case of spin dependent hopping integrals (mass imbalance), with special attention paid to the BCS-BEC crossover physic…
Neutrons have played an important role in advancing our understanding of the pairing mechanism and the symmetry of the superconducting energy gap in the iron arsenide compounds. Neutron measurements of the phonon density-of-state are in good agreement with ab initio calculations, provided the magnetism of the iron atoms is taken into account. However, the predicted superconducting transition temperatures are less than 1 K, making a conventional phononic mechanism for superconductivity highly unlikely. Measurements of the spin dynamics within the spin density wave phase of the parent compounds …
We investigate the properties of cuprate superconductors subject to applied current, using modified Gutzwiller projected d-wave BCS states. The parent states include quasiparticle and quasihole pockets, of variationally determined size, generated by the current. We identify two different mechanisms for the destruction of superconductivity at the critical current: at high hole doping (x>0.15) the pockets grow and completely destroy the gap, in a BCS-like mechanism; in the underdoped regime, the superfluid stiffness vanishes at a maximal phase twist with pairing still intact. This result is indi…
We study the average density of states in a small metallic grain coupled to two superconductors with the phase difference $π$, in a magnetic field. The spectrum of the low-energy excitations in the grain is described by the random matrix theory whose symmetry depends on the magnetic field strength and coupling to the superconductors. In the limiting cases, a pure superconducting symmetry class is realized. For intermediate magnetic fields or couplings to the superconductors, the system experiences a crossover between different symmetry classes. With the help of the supersymmetric sigma-model w…
In the present work, we measure the temperature dependent electrical resistivity from 300K down to 2K under applied hydrostatic pressure of upto 2.5GPa for SrFBiS2, which is the parent compound for the BiS2 based superconductors. Though the normal state resistivity of the compound decreases with pressure, the same is not superconducting down to 2K under applied pressure of up to 2.5Gpa.
We apply the fermion renormalization group method, implemented numerically by Honerkamp et.al., to a two-band model of FeAs-based materials. At half filling we find the $(π,0)$ or $(0,π)$ spin density wave order and a sub-dominant superconducting pairing tendency. Due to a topological reason, the spin density wave gap has nodes on the fermi surfaces. Away from half filling we find an unconventional s-wave and a sub-dominant $d_{x^2-y^2}$ pairing instability. The former has $s$ symmetry around the hole fermi surface but exhibits $s+d_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry around the electron pockets where the 90 …
Effect of atomic disordering induced by irradiation with fast neutrons on the properties of the normal and superconducting states of polycrystalline samples FeSe has been studied. The irradiation with fast neutrons of fluencies up to 1.25\cdot10^20 cm^-2 at the irradiation temperature Tirr ~ 50 \degree C results in relatively small changes in the temperature of the superconducting transition T_c and electrical resistivity Rho_25. Such a behavior is considered to be traceable to rather low, with respect to that possible at a given irradiation temperature, concentration of radiation defects, whi…
