It is well--known that if one is given a principal $G$--bundle with a principal connection, then for every unitary finite--dimensional linear representation of $G$ one can induce a linear connection and a Hermitian structure on the associated vector bundles which are compatible. Furthermore, the gauge group acts on the space of principal connections and on the space of linear connections defined on the associated vector bundles. This paper aims to present the {\it non--commutative geometrical} counterpart of all of these {\it classical} facts in the theory of quantum bundles and quantum connections.
We study noncommutative principal bundles (Hopf-Galois extensions) in the context of coquasitriangular Hopf algebras and their monoidal category of comodule algebras. When the total space is quasi-commutative, and thus the base space subalgebra is central, we define the gauge group as the group of vertical automorphisms or equivalently as the group of equivariant algebra maps. We study Drinfeld twist (2-cocycle) deformations of Hopf-Galois extensions and show that the gauge group of the twisted extension is isomorphic to the gauge group of the initial extension. In particular, noncommutative p…
In this dissertation the notion of deformation quantization of principal fibre bundles is established and investigated in order to find a geometric formulation of classical gauge theories on noncommutative space-times. As a generalization, the notion of deformation quantization of surjective submersions is also discussed. It is shown that deformation quantizations of surjective submersions and principal fibre bundles always exist and are unique up to equivalence. These statements concerning complex-valued functions are moreover formulated and proved for sections of arbitrary vector bundles ove…
Differential calculi are obtained for quantum homogeneous spaces by extending Woronowicz' approach to the present context. Representation theoretical properties of the differential calculi are investigated. Connections on quantum homogeneous vector bundles are classified and explicitly constructed by using the theory of projective modules.
This paper presents an analysis of the set of connections and covariant derivatives on a U(1) quantum Hopf bundle on the standard Podles sphere, whose total space quantum SU(2) is equipped with the 3d left covariant differential calculus by Woronowicz. The introduction of a Hodge duality on the exterior algebras on both total and base space of the bundle allows for the study of Laplacians and of gauged Laplacians.
We develop the noncommutative geometry (bundles, connections etc.) associated to algebras that factorise into two subalgebras. An example is the factorisation of matrices $M_2(\C)=\C\Z_2\cdot\C\Z_2$. We also further extend the coalgebra version of theory introduced previously, to include frame resolutions and corresponding covariant derivatives and torsions. As an example, we construct $q$-monopoles on all the Podleś quantum spheres $S^2_{q,s}$.
We study the Ehresmann--Schauenburg bialgebroid of a noncommutative principal bundle as a quantization of the classical gauge groupoid of a principal bundle. When the base algebra is in the centre of the total space algebra, the gauge group of the noncommutative principal bundle is isomorphic to the group of bisections of the bialgebroid. In particular we consider Galois objects (non-trivial noncommutative bundles over a point in a sense) for which the bialgebroid is a Hopf algebra. For these we give a crossed module structure for the bisections and the automorphisms of the bialgebroid. Exampl…
We study the Ehresmann--Schauenburg bialgebroid of a noncommutative principal bundle as a quantization of the gauge groupoid of a classical principal bundle. We show that the gauge group of the noncommutative bundle is isomorphic to the group of bisections of the bialgebroid, and we give a crossed module structure for the bisections and the automorphisms of the bialgebroid. Examples illustrating these constructions include: Galois objects of Taft algebras, a monopole bundle over a quantum spheres and a not faithfully flat Hopf--Galois extension of commutative algebras. The latter two examples …
We study infinitesimal gauge transformations of an equivariant noncommutative principal bundle as a braided Lie algebra of derivations. For this, we analyse general $K$-braided Hopf and Lie algebras, for $K$ a (quasi)triangular Hopf algebra of symmetries, and study their representations as braided derivations. We then study Drinfeld twist deformations of braided Hopf algebras and of Lie algebras of infinitesimal gauge transformations. We give examples coming from deformations of abelian and Jordanian type. In particular we explicitly describe the braided Lie algebra of gauge transformations of…
We study gauged Laplacian operators on line bundles on a quantum 2-dimensional sphere. Symmetry under the (co)-action of a quantum group allows for their complete diagonalization. These operators describe `excitations moving on the quantum sphere' in the field of a magnetic monopole. The energies are not invariant under the exchange monopole/antimonopole, that is under inverting the direction of the magnetic field. There are potential applications to models of quantum Hall effect.
We propose a conceptually economical and computationally tractable completion of the foundations of gauge theory on quantum principal bundles à la Brzeziński--Majid to the case of general differential calculi and strong bimodule connections. In particular, we use explicit groupoid equivalences to reframe the basic concepts of gauge theory -- gauge transformation, gauge potential, and field strength -- in terms of reconstruction of calculi on the total space (to second order) from given calculi on the structure quantum group and base, respectively. We therefore construct gauge-equivariant modul…
A generalization of classical gauge theory is presented, in the framework of a noncommutative-geometric formalism of quantum principal bundles over smooth manifolds. Quantum counterparts of classical gauge bundles, and classical gauge transformations, are introduced and investigated. A natural differential calculus on quantum gauge bundles is constructed and analyzed. Kinematical and dynamical properties of corresponding gauge theories are discussed.
We recall the emergence of a generalized gauge theory from a noncommutative Riemannian spin manifold, viz. a real spectral triple $(A,H,D;J)$. This includes a gauge group determined by the unitaries in the $*$-algebra $A$ and gauge fields arising from a so-called perturbation semigroup which is associated to $A$. Our main new result is the interpretation of this generalized gauge theory in terms of an upper semi-continuous $C^*$-bundle on a (Hausdorff) base space $X$. The gauge group acts by vertical automorphisms on this $C^*$-bundle and can (under some mild conditions) be identified with the…
Spectral triples over noncommutative principal $\T^n$-bundles are studied, extending recent results about the noncommutative geometry of principal U(1)-bundles. We relate the noncommutative geometry of the total space of the bundle with the geometry of the base space. Moreover, strong connections are used to build new Dirac operators. We discuss as a particular case the commutative case, the noncommutative tori and theta deformed manifolds.
In this paper we show how deformation quantization of line bundles over a Poisson manifold $M$ produces a canonical action $Φ$ of the Picard group $\Pic(M)\cong H^2(M,\mathbb Z)$ on the moduli space of equivalence classes of differential star products on $M$, $\Def(M)$. The orbits of $Φ$ characterize Morita equivalent star products on $M$. We describe the semiclassical limit of $Φ$ in terms of the characteristic classes of star products by studying the semiclassical geometry of deformed line bundles.
It is shown that every quantum principal bundle is braided, in the sense that there exists an intrinsic braid operator twisting the functions on the bundle. A detailed algebraic analysis of this operator is performed. In particular, it turns out that the braiding admits a natural extension to the level of arbitrary differential forms on the bundle. Applications of the formalism to the study of quantum gauge transformations are presented.
If P, B, H are the algebras of the total space, the base space, and the structure group of a locally trivial principal fibre bundle (QPFB), left (right) gauge transformations are defined as automorphisms of the left (right) B-module P which are adapted to the coaction of the Hopf algebra H and to the covering related to the local trivializations. Covariant derivatives on a QPFB are always transformed into covariant derivatives. This is true for connections only for special choices of the differential structure on H and/or if one restricts to algebra automorphisms. There are analogues of the cl…
We develop a gauge theory or theory of bundles and connections on them at the level of braids and tangles. Extending recent algebraic work, we provide now a fully diagrammatic treatment of principal bundles, a theory of global gauge transformations, associated braided fiber bundles and covariant derivatives on them. We describe the local structure for a concrete $Z_3$-graded or `anyonic' realization of the theory.
The idea of a line bundle in classical geometry is transferred to noncommutative geometry by the idea of a Morita context. From this we can construct Z and N graded algebras, the Z graded algebra being a Hopf-Galois extension. A non-degenerate Hermitian metric gives a star structure on this algebra, and an additional star operation on the line bundle gives a star operation on the N graded algebra. In this case, we can carry out the associated circle bundle and Thom constructions. Starting with a C* algebra as base, and with some positivity assumptions, the associated circle and Thom algebras a…
Quantum homogeneous vector bundles are introduced by a direct description of their sections in the context of Woronowicz type compact quantum groups. The bundles carry natural topologies inherited from the quantum groups, and their sections furnish projective modules over algebras of functions on quantum homogeneous spaces. Further properties of the quantum homogeneous vector bundles are investigated, and their applications to the representation theory of quantum groups are explored. In particular, quantum Frobenius reciprocity and a generalized Borel-Weil theorem are established.
A general noncommutative-geometric theory of principal bundles is presented. Quantum groups play the role of structure groups. General quantum spaces play the role of base manifolds. A differential calculus on quantum principal bundles is studied. In particular, algebras of horizontal and verticalized differential forms on the bundle are introduced and investigated. The formalism of connections is developed. Operators of horizontal projection, covariant derivative and curvature are constructed and analyzed. A quantum generalization of classical Weil's theory of characteristic classes is sketch…
These are the expanded notes of a course given at the Summer school "Geometric, topological and algebraic methods for quantum field theory" held at Villa de Leyva, Colombia in July 2015. We first give an introduction to non-commutative geometry and to the language of Hopf algebras. We next build up a theory of non-commutative principal fiber bundles and consider various aspects of such objects. Finally, we illustrate the theory using the quantum enveloping algebra $U_q\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ and related Hopf algebras.
The quantum general linear supergroup GLq(m|n) is defined and its structure is studied systematically. Quantum homogeneous supervector bundles are introduced following Connes' theory, and applied to develop the representation theory of GLq(m|n). Quantum Frobenius reciprocity is proven, and a Borel - Weil theorem is established for the irreducible covariant and contravariant tensor representations.
A theory of principal bundles possessing quantum structure groups and classical base manifolds is presented. Structural analysis of such quantum principal bundles is performed. A differential calculus is constructed, combining differential forms on the base manifold with an appropriate differential calculus on the structure quantum group. Relations between the calculus on the group and the calculus on the bundle are investigated. A concept of (pseudo)tensoriality is formulated. The formalism of connections is developed. In particular, operators of horizontal projection, covariant derivative an…
