We present a deep learning pipeline that leverages network self-prior to recover a full 3D model consisting of both a triangular mesh and a texture map from the colored 3D point cloud. Different from previous methods either exploiting 2D self-prior for image editing or 3D self-prior for pure surface reconstruction, we propose to exploit a novel hybrid 2D-3D self-prior in deep neural networks to significantly improve the geometry quality and produce a high-resolution texture map, which is typically missing from the output of commodity-level 3D scanners. In particular, we first generate an initial mesh using a 3D convolutional neural network with 3D self-prior, and then encode both 3D information and color information in the 2D UV atlas, which is further refined by 2D convolutional neural networks with the self-prior. In this way, both 2D and 3D self-priors are utilized for the mesh and texture recovery. Experiments show that, without the need of any additional training data, our method recovers the 3D textured mesh model of high quality from sparse input, and outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of both the geometry and texture quality.

Estimating a mesh from an unordered set of sparse, noisy 3D points is a challenging problem that requires carefully selected priors. Existing hand-crafted priors, such as smoothness regularizers, impose an undesirable trade-off between attenuating noise and preserving local detail. Recent deep-learning approaches produce impressive results by learning priors directly from the data. However, the priors are learned at the object level, which makes these algorithms class-specific and even sensitive to the pose of the object. We introduce meshlets, small patches of mesh that we use to learn local …
Mesh labeling is the key problem of classifying the facets of a 3D mesh with a label among a set of possible ones. State-of-the-art methods model mesh labeling as a Markov Random Field over the facets. These algorithms map image segmentations to the mesh by minimizing an energy function that comprises a data term, a smoothness terms, and class-specific priors. The latter favor a labeling with respect to another depending on the orientation of the facet normals. In this paper we propose a novel energy term that acts as a prior, but does not require any prior knowledge about the scene nor scene-…
We propose a novel method to reconstruct the 3D shapes of transparent objects using hand-held captured images under natural light conditions. It combines the advantage of explicit mesh and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network, a hybrid representation, to simplify the capture setting used in recent contributions. After obtaining an initial shape through the multi-view silhouettes, we introduce surface-based local MLPs to encode the vertex displacement field (VDF) for the reconstruction of surface details. The design of local MLPs allows to represent the VDF in a piece-wise manner using two laye…
With the emergence of neural radiance fields (NeRFs), view synthesis quality has reached an unprecedented level. Compared to traditional mesh-based assets, this volumetric representation is more powerful in expressing scene geometry but inevitably suffers from high rendering costs and can hardly be involved in further processes like editing, posing significant difficulties in combination with the existing graphics pipeline. In this paper, we present a hybrid volume-mesh representation, VMesh, which depicts an object with a textured mesh along with an auxiliary sparse volume. VMesh retains the …
This paper addresses mesh restoration problems, i.e., denoising and completion, by learning self-similarity in an unsupervised manner. For this purpose, the proposed method, which we refer to as Deep Mesh Prior, uses a graph convolutional network on meshes to learn the self-similarity. The network takes a single incomplete mesh as input data and directly outputs the reconstructed mesh without being trained using large-scale datasets. Our method does not use any intermediate representations such as an implicit field because the whole process works on a mesh. We demonstrate that our unsupervised…
We address the issue of creating consistent mesh texture maps captured from scenes without color calibration. We find that the method for aggregation of the multiple views is crucial for creating spatially consistent meshes without the need to explicitly optimize for spatial consistency. We compute a color prior from the cross-correlation of observable view faces and the faces per view to identify an optimal per-face color. We then use this color in a re-weighting ratio for the best-view texture, which is identified by prior mesh texturing work, to create a spatial consistent texture map. Desp…

Model-based 3D pose and shape estimation methods reconstruct a full 3D mesh for the human body by estimating several parameters. However, learning the abstract parameters is a highly non-linear process and suffers from image-model misalignment, leading to mediocre model performance. In contrast, 3D keypoint estimation methods combine deep CNN network with the volumetric representation to achieve pixel-level localization accuracy but may predict unrealistic body structure. In this paper, we address the above issues by bridging the gap between body mesh estimation and 3D keypoint estimation. We …
While 3D reconstruction is a well-established and widely explored research topic, semantic 3D reconstruction has only recently witnessed an increasing share of attention from the Computer Vision community. Semantic annotations allow in fact to enforce strong class-dependent priors, as planarity for ground and walls, which can be exploited to refine the reconstruction often resulting in non-trivial performance improvements. State-of-the art methods propose volumetric approaches to fuse RGB image data with semantic labels; even if successful, they do not scale well and fail to output high resolu…

In this paper, we introduce Point2Mesh, a technique for reconstructing a surface mesh from an input point cloud. Instead of explicitly specifying a prior that encodes the expected shape properties, the prior is defined automatically using the input point cloud, which we refer to as a self-prior. The self-prior encapsulates reoccurring geometric repetitions from a single shape within the weights of a deep neural network. We optimize the network weights to deform an initial mesh to shrink-wrap a single input point cloud. This explicitly considers the entire reconstructed shape, since shared loca…
We present a new meshing algorithm called guided and augmented meshing, GAMesh, which uses a mesh prior to generate a surface for the output points of a point network. By projecting the output points onto this prior and simplifying the resulting mesh, GAMesh ensures a surface with the same topology as the mesh prior but whose geometric fidelity is controlled by the point network. This makes GAMesh independent of both the density and distribution of the output points, a common artifact in traditional surface reconstruction algorithms. We show that such a separation of geometry from topology can…

We introduce DMTet, a deep 3D conditional generative model that can synthesize high-resolution 3D shapes using simple user guides such as coarse voxels. It marries the merits of implicit and explicit 3D representations by leveraging a novel hybrid 3D representation. Compared to the current implicit approaches, which are trained to regress the signed distance values, DMTet directly optimizes for the reconstructed surface, which enables us to synthesize finer geometric details with fewer artifacts. Unlike deep 3D generative models that directly generate explicit representations such as meshes, o…
