In this work we explore signatures of evolution for the dark energy density $X(z)=ρ_{de}(z)/ρ_{de}(0)$ using latest observations on SNIa and H(z). The models consist of parametrizations of the dark energy density and consequently a reconstruction for the EoS parameter w(z) as a function of redshift. Both parametrization methods using the SH0Es prior results in a small deviation from LCDM at 1$σ$ for $X(z)$. Extending the analysis up to 2$σ$, the evidence for evolution of $X(z)$ dilute in both cases. We have also studied an interacting dark model where this trend is also found.
We investigate the evolution of sub-horizon cold dark matter perturbation in the dark energy dominated era of the Universe. By generalising the Meszaros equation to be valid for an arbitrary equation of state parameter, we derive the $w$-Meszaros equation. Its solutions determine the evolution of the cold dark matter perturbation by neglecting dark energy perturbations. Our analytical results provide a qualitative understanding of this evolution.
We consider a cosmological model of the late universe constituted by standard cold dark matter plus a dark energy component with constant equation of state w and constant effective speed of sound. Neglecting fluctuations in the dark energy component we obtain an equation describing the evolution of sub-horizon cold dark matter perturbations through the epoch of dark matter-dark energy equality. We explore its analytic solutions and calculate an exact w-dependent correction for the dark matter growth function, logarithmic growth function and growth index parameter through the epoch considered. …
Considering a quadratic parametrization of the dark energy density, we explore signatures of evolution using data from gas mass fraction in clusters, type Ia supernova, BAO and CMB. We find -- excluding CMB data -- a preference for a evolution of $ρ_{de}(z)$ towards smaller values as redshift increases, a result consistent with a recent study using the BAO DR11 data by Delubac et al. (2015).
We study dark energy through the viewpoints of parametric and nonparametric analyses of late-time cosmological data. We consider four Hubble parameter priors reflecting the Hubble tension and make use of two phenomenological functions, namely, a normalized dark energy density and a compactified dark energy equation of state. We predict the shape of both functions and present new constraints on the dark energy equation of state. The results hint at dark energy evolution regardless of the choice of the method and of the priors. The fact that similar evolutions for the dark energy densities are f…
We investigate the time evolution of the gravitational potential Phi for a special class of non-adiabatic Unified Dark matter Models described by scalar field lagrangians. These models predict the same background evolution as in the LambdaCDM and possess a non-vanishing speed of sound. We provide a very accurate approximation of Phi, valid after the recombination epoch, in the form of a Bessel function of the first kind. This approximation may be useful for a future deeper analysis of Unified Dark Matter scalar field models.
We propose a new method to explore a possible departure from the standard time evolution law for the dark matter density. We looked for a violation of this law by using a deformed evolution law, given by $ρ_c(z) \propto (1+z)^{3+ε}$, and then constrain $ε$. The dataset used for this purpose consists of Strong Gravitational Lensing data obtained from SLOAN Lens ACS, BOSS Emission-line Lens Survey, Strong Legacy Survey SL2S, and SLACS; along with galaxy cluster X-ray gas mass fraction measurements obtained using the Chandra Telescope. Our analyses show that $ε$ is consistent with zero within 1 $…
We use a direct numerical integration of the Vlasov equation in spherical symmetry with a background gravitational potential to determine the evolution of a collection of particles in different models of a galactic halo. Such a collection is assumed to represent a dark matter inhomogeneity which reaches a stationary state determined by the virialization of the system. We describe some features of the stationary states and, by using several halo models, obtain distinctive signatures for the evolution of the inhomogeneities in each of the models.
The evolution of the electric and magnetic components in an effective Yang-Mills condensate dark energy model is investigated. If the electric field is dominant, the magnetic component disappears with the expansion of the Universe. The total YM condensate tracks the radiation in the earlier Universe, and later it becomes $w_y\sim-1$ thus is similar to the cosmological constant. So the cosmic coincidence problem can be avoided in this model. However, if the magnetic field is dominant, $w_y>1/3$ holds for all time, suggesting that it cannot be a candidate for the dark energy in this case.
We consider a cosmology in which dark matter and a quintessence scalar field responsible for the acceleration of the Universe are allowed to interact. Allowing for both conformal and disformal couplings, we perform a global analysis of the constraints on our model using Hubble parameter measurements, baryon acoustic oscillation distance measurements, and a Supernovae Type Ia data set. We find that the additional disformal coupling relaxes the conformal coupling constraints. Moreover we show that, at the background level, a disformal interaction within the dark sector is preferred to both $Λ$CD…
We consider inhomogeneous spherically symmetric models based on the Lemaître-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) metric, assuming as its source an interactive mixture of ordinary baryonic matter, cold dark matter and dark energy with a coupling term proportional to the addition of energy densities of both dark fluids. We reduce Einstein's field equations to a first order 7-dimensional autonomous dynamical system of evolution equations and algebraic constraints. We study in detail the evolution of the energy density and spatial curvature profiles along the phase space by means of two subspace projections: a thr…
We study the cosmological predictions of the dark D-brane model, in which dark matter resides on a D-brane moving in a higher-dimensional space. By construction, dark matter interacts only gravitationally with the standard model sector in this framework. The dark energy scalar field is associated with the position of the D-brane, and its dynamics is encoded in a Dirac-Born-Infeld action. On the other hand, dark matter is identified with matter on the D-brane, that naturally couples to dark energy \textit{via} a disformal coupling. We analyse the numerical evolution of the cosmological backgrou…
We consider the global cosmological evolution and the evolution of the density contrast in the Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter model, in the framework of a Post-Newtonian cosmological approach. In the Bose-Einstein model, dark matter can be described as a non-relativistic, Newtonian gravitational condensate, whose density and pressure are related by a barotropic equation of state. For a condensate with quartic non-linearity, the equation of state is polytropic with index $n=1$. The basic equation describing the evolution of the perturbations of the Bose-Einstein condensate is obtained, an…
Dark energy is now one of the most important and topical problems in cosmology. The first step to reveal its nature is to detect the evolution of dark energy or to prove beyond doubt that the cosmological constant is indeed constant. However, in the standard approach to cosmology, the Universe is described by the homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann models. Here we show that in the perturbed universe (even if perturbations vanish if averaged over sufficiently large scales) the distance-redshift relation is not the same as in the unperturbed universe. This has a serious consequence when studying…
The modified gravity with $f(R)=R^{1+ε}$ ($ε>0$) allows a scaling solution where the density of gravity sector follows the density of the dominant fluid. We present initial conditions of background and perturbation variables during the scaling evolution regime in the modified gravity. As a possible dark energy model we consider a gravity with a form $f(R)=R^{1+ε}+qR^{-n}$ ($-1<n \le 0$) where the second term drives the late-time acceleration. We show that our $f(R)$ gravity parameters are very sensitive to the baryon perturbation growth and baryon density power spectrum, and present observatio…
Evolution of cosmological perturbations is considered in the model with dynamical dark energy which non-gravitationally interacts with dark matter. The dark energy equation of state parameter (EoS) is varying in time and is parameterized by its adiabatic sound speed. Such model of interacting dark energy has advantages over model with constant EoS, because it avoids non-adiabatic instabilities of dark energy at radiation dominated epoch for certain types of interaction in dark sector. The stability conditions for solutions of equations of dark energy perturbations were derived. The impact of s…
In this paper we study the late evolution of Relic Gravitational Waves in coupled dark energy models, where dark energy interacts with cold dark matter. Relic Gravitational Waves are second tensorial order perturbations of the Lemaitre-Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric and experiment an evolution ruled by the scale factor of the metric. We and that the amplitude of Relic Gravitational Waves is smaller in coupled dark energy models than in models with non interacting dark energy . We also find that the amplitude of the waves predicted by the models with coupling term proportional to the dark ene…
In this review we consider in detail different theoretical topics associated with interaction in the dark sector. We study linear and nonlinear interactions which depend on the dark matter and dark energy densities. We consider a number of different models (including the holographic dark energy and dark energy in a fractal universe) with interacting dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM), have done a thorough analysis of these models. The main task of this review was not only to give an idea about the modern set of different models of dark energy, but to show how much can be diverse dynamics of…
The statefinder diagnosic is a useful method for distinguishing different dark energy models. In this paper, we investigate the new agegraphic dark energy model with interaction between dark energy and matter component by using statefinder parameter pair $\{r, s\}$ and study its cosmological evolution. We plot the trajectories of the new agegraphic dark energy model for different interaction cases in the statefinder plane. As a result, the influence of the interaction on the evolution of the universe is shown in the statefinder diagrams.
We describe the methodology to include nonlinear evolution, including tidal effects, in the computation of subhalo distribution properties in both cold (CDM) and warm (WDM) dark matter universes. Using semi-analytic modeling, we include effects from dynamical friction, tidal stripping, and tidal heating, allowing us to dynamically evolve the subhalo distribution. We calibrate our nonlinear evolution scheme to the CDM subhalo mass function in the Aquarius N-body simulation, producing a subhalo mass function within the range of simulations. We find tidal effects to be the dominant mechanism of n…
Dark energy must cluster in order to be consistent with the equivalence principle. The background evolution can be effectively modelled by either a scalar field or by a barotropic fluid. The fluid model can be used to emulate perturbations in a scalar field model of dark energy, though this model breaks down at large scales. In this paper we study evolution of dark energy perturbations in canonical scalar field models: the classes of thawing and freezing models. The dark energy equation of state evolves differently in these classes. In freezing models, the equation of state deviates from that of …
The information entropy is here investigated in the context of early and late cosmology under the hypothesis that distinct phases of universe evolution are entangled between them. The approach is based on the \emph{entangled state ansatz}, representing a coarse-grained definition of primordial \emph{dark temperature} associated to an \emph{effective entangled energy density}. The dark temperature definition comes from assuming either Von Neumann or linear entropy as sources of cosmological thermodynamics. We interpret the involved information entropies by means of probabilities of forming stru…
The thermal evolution of the intergalactic medium (IGM) can serve as a sensitive probe of cosmological heat sources and sinks. We employ it to limit interactions between dark matter and baryons. After reionization the IGM temperature is set by the balance between photoheating and adiabatic cooling. We use measurements of the IGM temperature from Lyman-$α$-forest data to constrain the cross-section $σ$ between dark matter and baryons, finding $σ< 10^{-20}$ cm$^2$ for dark-matter masses $m_χ\leq 1$ GeV. This provides the first direct constraint on scattering between dark matter and baryons at re…
The modified holographic Ricci dark energy coupled to interacting relativistic and non-relativistic dark matter is considered in the nonflat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. Through examining the deceleration parameter, one can find that the transition time of the Universe from decelerating to accelerating phase in the interacting holographic Ricci dark energy model is close to that in the $Λ$ cold dark matter model. The evolution of modified holographic Ricci dark energy's state parameter and the evolution of dark matter and dark energy's densities shows that the dark energy holds the dom…
The acceleration of the cosmic expansion revealed by supernova observations indicates that the present universe is dominated by repulsive dark energy. It is natural that the coupling between the dark energy and the attractive gravity has to be taken into account in studying the evolution of our universe. Here we induce a dynamic equation of universe evolution based on the cosmological principal, gravity-dark energy coupling, and energy conservation. The solutions of this dynamic equation provide a specific picture of cosmic evolution, which is well compatible with current observed evolution hi…
The structure and evolution of Primordial Antimatter domains and Dark matter objects are analysed. Relativistic low-density antimatter domains are described. The Relativistic FRW perfect-fluid solution is found for the characterization of i) ultra-high density antimatter domains, ii) high-density antimatter domains, and iii) dense anti-matter domains. The possible sub-domains structures is analyzed. The structures evolved to the time of galaxy formation are outlined. Comparison is given with other primordial celestial objects. The features of antistars are outlined. In the case of WIMP dark ma…
In this letter, we implement a test of the standard law for the dark matter density evolution. For this purpose, only a flat universe and the validity of the FRW metric are assumed. A deformed dark matter density evolution law is considered, given by $ρ_c(z) \propto (1+z)^{3+ε}$, and constraints on $ε$ are obtained by using galaxy cluster gas mass fractions, and cosmic chronometers measurements. We find that $ε=0$ within 2$σ$ c.l., in full agreement with other recent analyses.
In the present work, motivated by the work of Cai and Su [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 81}, 103514 (2010)], we propose a new type of interaction in dark sector, which can change its sign when our universe changes from deceleration to acceleration. We consider the cosmological evolution of quintessence and phantom with this type of interaction, and find that there are some scaling attractors which can help to alleviate the cosmological coincidence problem. Our results also show that this new type of interaction can bring new features to cosmology.
We analyse the evolution of cosmological perturbations which leads to the formation of large isolated voids in the Universe. We assume that initial perturbations are spherical and all components of the Universe (radiation, matter and dark energy) are continuous media with perfect fluid energy--momentum tensors, which interact only gravitationally. Equations of the evolution of perturbations for every component in the comoving to cosmological background reference frame are obtained from equations of energy and momentum conservation and Einstein's ones and are integrated numerically. Initial con…
We study the general evolution of spherical over-densities for thawing class of dark energy models. We model dark energy with scalar fields having canonical as well as non-canonical kinetic energy. For non-canonical case, we consider models where the kinetic energy is of the Born-Infeld Form. We study various potentials like linear, inverse-square, exponential as well as PNGB-type. We also consider the case when dark energy is homogeneous as well as the case when it is inhomogeneous and virializes together with matter. Our study shows that models with linear potential in particular with Born-I…
We use a variant of principal component analysis to investigate the possible temporal evolution of the dark energy equation of state, $w(z)$. We constrain $w(z)$ in multiple redshift bins, utilizing the most recent data from Type Ia supernovae, the cosmic microwave background, baryon acoustic oscillations, the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect, galaxy clustering, and weak lensing data. Unlike other recent analyses, we find no significant evidence for evolving dark energy; the data remains completely consistent with a cosmological constant. We also study the extent to which the time-evolution of th…
In this paper, we consider the problem of the evolution of the disk subsystem of galaxies in view of the halo. To this end, we have studied the dependence of the evolution of a non-linearly non-radially disk oscillating in its plane depending on the basic parameters of the dark matter halo numerically. The dark matter halo stabilizes the instabilities in the plane of the disk, but destabilizes its vertical oscillations. The global disk structure is dependent strongly on the mass and shape of the of dark matter halo. The evolutionary dependence of the oscillation process of a self-gravitating d…
Knowing the late time evolution of the Universe and finding out the causes for this evolution are the important challenges of modern cosmology. In this work, we adopt a model-independent cosmographic approach and approximate the Hubble parameter considering the Pade approximation which works better than the standard Taylor series approximation for $z>1$. With this, we constrain the late time evolution of the Universe considering low-redshift observations coming from SNIa, BAO, $H(z)$, $H_{0}$ , strong-lensing time-delay as well as the Megamaser observations for angular diameter distances. We c…
We apply the formalism of dynamical system analysis to investigate the evolution of interacting dark energy scenarios at the background and perturbation levels in a unified way. Since the resulting dynamical system contains the extra perturbation variable related to the matter overdensity, the critical points of the background analysis split, corresponding to different behavior of matter perturbations, and hence to stability properties. From the combined analysis, we find critical points that describe the non-accelerating matter-dominated epoch with the correct growth of matter structure, and …
The role of dark matter halos in galaxy disk evolution is reviewed, in particular the stabilisation of disks through self-gravity reduction, or the bar development through angular momentum exchange. Triaxial dark halos tend to weaken bars. When the dark mass inside the bar region is negligible, the bar develops through angular momentum exchange between inner and outer disk, and between stars and gas. Self-regulating cycles on the bar strength may develop in the presence of external gas accretion. Dynamical friction on dark halos slows down bars, which puts constraints on the dark matter amount…
Once the temperature of a bosonic gas is smaller than the critical, density dependent, transition temperature, a Bose - Einstein Condensation process can take place during the cosmological evolution of the Universe. Bose - Einstein Condensates are very strong candidates for dark matter, since they can solve some major issues in observational astrophysics, like, for example, the galactic core/cusp problem. The presence of the dark matter condensates also drastically affects the cosmic history of the Universe. In the present paper we analyze the effects of the finite dark matter temperature on t…
Understanding the influence of dark energy on the formation of structures is currently a major challenge in Cosmology, since it can distinguish otherwise degenerated viable models. In this work we consider the Top-Hat Spherical-Collapse (SC) model with dark energy, which can partially (or totally) cluster, according to a free parameter $γ$. The {\it lack of} energy conservation has to be taken into account accordingly, as we will show. We determine characteristic quantities for the SC model, such as the critical contrast density and radius evolution, with particular emphasis on their dependenc…
We present a complete numerical study of cosmological models with a time dependent coupling between the dark energy component driving the present accelerated expansion of the Universe and the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) fluid. Depending on the functional form of the coupling strength, these models show a range of possible intermediate behaviors between the standard LCDM background evolution and the widely studied case of interacting dark energy models with a constant coupling. These different background evolutions play a crucial role in the growth of cosmic structures, and determine strikingly diff…
We investigate the statistical nature of the dark matter particles produced in bouncing cosmology, especially, the evolution of its thermal fluctuations. By explicitly deriving and solving the equation of motion of super-horizon mode, we fully determine the evolution of thermal perturbation of dark matter in a generic bouncing background. And we also show that the evolution of super-horizon modes is stable and will not ruin the background evolution of a generic bouncing universe till the Planck scale. Given no super-horizon thermal perturbation of dark matter appears in standard inflation scen…
We discuss the evolution of density perturbations of dark matter and dark energy in cosmological models which admit future singularities in a finite time. Up to now geometrical tests of the evolution of the universe do not differentiate between singular universes and $Λ$CDM scenario. We solve perturbation equations using the gauge invariant formalism. The analysis shows that the detailed reconstruction of the evolution of perturbations within singular cosmologies, in the dark sector, exhibit important differences between the singular universes models and the $Λ$CDM cosmology. This is encouragi…
We announce the public release of the 'dark' stellar evolution code DarkStars. The code simultaneously solves the equations of WIMP capture and annihilation in a star with those of stellar evolution assuming approximate hydrostatic equilibrium. DarkStars includes the most extensive WIMP microphysics of any dark evolution code to date. The code employs detailed treatments of the capture process from a range of WIMP velocity distributions, as well as composite WIMP distribution and conductive energy transport schemes based on the WIMP mean-free path in the star. We give a brief description of th…
The equation of state (EOS) of the dark energy is the key parameter to study the nature of the dark energy from the observation. Though the dark energy is found to be well consistent with the cosmological constant with a constant EOS of $-1$, weak evidences from different observation data and analyses show that dark energy models with an evolving EOS slightly less than $-1$ at some medium redshifts and greater than $-1$ at high redshifts are more favored. In this paper, It is shown that how such a pattern of an evolving dark energy EOS can be just biases arising from the statistical method wid…
The paper brings a novel approach to unification of dark matter and dark energy in terms of a cosmic fluid. A model is introduced in which the cosmic fluid speed of sound squared is defined as a function of its equation of state (EoS) parameter. It is shown how logarithmic part of this function results in dynamical regimes previously not observed in cosmic fluid models. It is shown that in a particular dynamical regime the model behaves as a unification of dark matter and phantom dark energy. Further, it is shown that the model may describe dark matter - dark energy unification in which dark e…
A new bound dark energy, BDE, cosmology has been proposed where the dark energy is the binding energy between light meson fields that condense a few tens of years after the big bang. It is reported that the correct dark energy density emerges using particle physics without fine tuning. This alone makes the BDE cosmology worthy of further investigation. This work looks at the late time BDE predictions of the evolution of cosmological parameters and the values of fundamental constants to determine whether the cosmology's predictions are consistent with observation. The work considers the time pe…
The dramatic size evolution of early-type galaxies from z ~ 2 to 0 poses a new challenge in the theory of galaxy formation, which may not be explained by the standard picture. It is shown here that the size evolution can be explained if the non-baryonic cold dark matter is composed of compact objects having a mass scale of ~10^5 M_sun. This form of dark matter is consistent with or only weakly constrained by the currently available observations. The kinetic energy of the dark compact objects is transferred to stars by dynamical friction, and stars around the effective radius are pushed out to …
If the dark matter sector in the universe is composed by metastable particles, galaxies and galaxy clusters are expected to undergo significant secular evolution from high to low redshift. We show that the decay of dark matter, with a lifetime compatible with cosmological constraints, can be at the origin of the observed evolution of the Tully-Fisher relation of disk galaxies and alleviate the problem of the size-evolution of elliptical galaxies, while being consistent with the current observational constraints on the gas fraction of clusters of galaxies.
The most compelling and popular models for dark matter predict that it should congregate and annihilate in stellar cores. Stars where annihilation contributes substantially to the total energy budget look very different to those with which we are familiar. Here I explain the general features of stars modified by dark matter annihilation with the help of a series of grids of 'dark' stellar evolutionary models, and describe the public code with which they were computed. I go on to discuss possible impacts of dark stars on the high-redshift Universe, including the history of reionisation. The pre…

Under the assumption that the variations of parameters of nature and the current acceleration of the universe are related and governed by the evolution of a single scalar field, we show how information can be obtained on the nature of dark energy from observational detection of (or constraints on) cosmological variations of the fine structure constant and the proton-to-electron mass ratio. We also comment on the current observational status, and on the prospects for improvements with future spectrographs such as ESPRESSO and CODEX.
Primordial stars formed in the early universe are thought to be hosted by compact dark matter (DM) halos. If DM consists of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), such stars may be powered by DM annihilation during the early phases of their evolutions. We study the pre-main sequence evolutions of the primordial star using a detailed stellar evolution code under the assumption that the annihilation of adiabatically contracted WIMPs DM within the star provides a sufficient energy to sustain the stellar equilibrium. We follow the evolution of accreting stars using several gas mass accretio…
It is common practice to describe formal size and mass scales of dark matter halos as spherical overdensities with respect to an evolving density threshold. Here, we critically investigate the evolutionary effects of several such commonly used definitions and compare them to the halo evolution within fixed physical scales as well as to the evolution of other intrinsic physical properties of dark matter halos. It is shown that, in general, the traditional way of characterizing sizes and masses of halos dramatically overpredicts the degree of evolution in the last 10 Gyr, especially for low-mass…
The existence of dark matter and dark energy in cosmology is implied by various observations, however, they are still unclear because they have not been directly detected. In this Letter, an unified model of dark energy and dark matter that can explain the evolution history of the Universe later than inflationary era, the time evolution of the growth rate function of the matter density contrast, the flat rotation curves of the spiral galaxies, and the gravitational experiments in the solar system is proposed in mimetic matter model.
