Ergodic Theory, Geometric Measure Theory, Conformal Measures and the Dynamics of Elliptic Functions

The ultimate goal of our book is to present a unified approach to the dynamics, ergodic theory, and geometry of elliptic functions from $\C$ to $\oc$. We consider elliptic functions as a most regular class of transcendental meromorphic functions. Poles form an essential feature of such functions but the set of critical values is finite and an elliptic function is "the same" on its of its fundamental regions. The Boltzmann-Sinai Ergodic Hypothesis in Full Generality (Without Exceptional Models)

We consider the system of $N$ ($\ge2$) elastically colliding hard balls of masses $m_1,...,m_N$ and radius $r$ on the flat unit torus $\Bbb T^ν$, $ν\ge2$. We prove the so called Boltzmann-Sinai Ergodic Hypothesis, i. e. the full hyperbolicity and ergodicity of such systems for every selection $(m_1,...,m_N;r)$ of the external geometric parameters, without exceptional values. The present proof does not use at all the formerly developed, rather involved algebraic techniques, instead it employs exclusively dynamical methods and tools of geometric analysis.

Ergodic Optimization Restricted On Certain Subsets Of Invariant Measures

In this article, we pay attention to transitive dynamical systems having the shadowing property and the entropy functions are upper semicontinuous. As for these dynamical systems, when we consider ergodic optimization restricted on the subset of invariant measures whose metric entropy are equal or greater than a given constant, we prove that for generic real continuous functions the ergodic optimization measure is unique, ergodic, full support and have metric entropy equal to the given constant. Ergodic properties of some negatively curved manifolds with infinite measure

Let $M=X/Γ$ be a geometrically finite negatively curved manifold with fundamental group $Γ$ acting on $X$ by isometries. The purpose of this paper is to study the mixing property of the geodesic flow on $T^1M$, the asymptotic equivalent as $R\longrightarrow+\infty$ of the number of closed geodesics on $M$ of length less than $R$ and of the orbital counting function $\sharp\{γ\inΓ |\ d(o,γ.o)\le R\}$. Ergodic solenoidal homology: Realization theorem

We define generalized currents associated with immersions of abstract oriented solenoids with a transversal measure. We realize geometrically the full real homology of a compact manifold with these generalized currents, and more precisely with immersions of minimal uniquely ergodic solenoids. This makes precise and geometric De Rham's realization of the real homology by only using a restricted geometric subclass of currents.

Geometric and Measure-Theoretic Shrinking Targets in Dynamical Systems

We consider both geometric and measure-theoretic shrinking targets for ergodic maps, investigating when they are visible or invisible. Some Baire category theorems are proved, and particular constructions are given when the underlying map is fixed. Open questions about shrinking targets are also described.

Dynamics of meromorphic maps with small topological degree III: geometric currents and ergodic theory

We continue our study of the dynamics of mappings with small topological degree on (projective) complex surfaces. Previously, under mild hypotheses, we have constructed an ergodic ``equilibrium'' measure for each such mapping. Here we study the dynamical properties of this measure in detail: we give optimal bounds for its Lyapunov exponents, prove that it has maximal entropy, and show that it has product structure in the natural extension. Proof of the Ergodic Hypothesis for Typical Hard Ball Systems

We consider the system of $N$ ($\ge2$) hard balls with masses $m_1,...,m_N$ and radius $r$ in the flat torus $\Bbb T_L^ν=\Bbb R^ν/L\cdot\Bbb Z^ν$ of size $L$, $ν\ge3$. We prove the ergodicity (actually, the Bernoulli mixing property) of such systems for almost every selection $(m_1,...,m_N; L)$ of the outer geometric parameters. This theorem complements my earlier result that proved the same, almost sure ergodicity for the case $ν=2$. The method of that proof was primarily dynamical-geometric, whereas the present approach is inherently algebraic.

Proving The Ergodic Hypothesis for Billiards With Disjoint Cylindric Scatterers

In this paper we study the ergodic properties of mathematical billiards describing the uniform motion of a point in a flat torus from which finitely many, pairwise disjoint, tubular neighborhoods of translated subtori (the so called cylindric scatterers) have been removed. We prove that every such system is ergodic (actually, a Bernoulli flow), unless a simple geometric obstacle for the ergodicity is present.

Ergodic properties of boundary actions and Nielsen--Schreier theory

We study the basic ergodic properties (ergodicity and conservativity) of the action of an arbitrary subgroup $H$ of a free group $F$ on the boundary $\partial F$ with respect to the uniform measure. Our approach is geometrical and combinatorial, and it is based on choosing a system of Nielsen--Schreier generators in $H$ associated with a geodesic spanning tree in the Schreier graph $X=H\backslash F$. Ergodic properties of randomly coloured point sets

We provide a framework for studying randomly coloured point sets in a locally compact, second-countable space on which a metrisable unimodular group acts continuously and properly. We first construct and describe an appropriate dynamical system for uniformly discrete uncoloured point sets. For point sets of finite local complexity, we characterise ergodicity geometrically in terms of pattern frequencies. The general framework allows to incorporate a random colouring of the point sets.
