We prove a parametric h-principle for complete nonflat conformal minimal immersions of an open Riemann surface $M$ into $\mathbb R^n$, $n\geq 3$. It follows that the inclusion of the space of such immersions into the space of all nonflat conformal minimal immersions is a weak homotopy equivalence. When $M$ is of finite topological type, the inclusion is a genuine homotopy equivalence. By a parametric h-principle due to Forstneric and Larusson, the space of complete nonflat conformal minimal immersions therefore has the same homotopy type as the space of continuous maps from $M$ to the punctured null quadric. Analogous results hold for holomorphic null curves $M\to\mathbb C^n$ and for full immersions in place of nonflat ones.
Weierstrass representation is a classical parameterization of minimal surfaces. However, two functions should be specified to construct the parametric form in Weierestrass representation. In this paper, we propose an explicit parametric form for a class of parametric polynomial minimal surfaces of arbitrary degree. It includes the classical Enneper surface for cubic case. The proposed minimal surfaces also have some interesting properties such as symmetry, containing straight lines and self-intersections. According to the shape properties, the proposed minimal surface can be classified into fo…
Let $M$ be an open Riemann surface. It was proved by Alarcón and Forstnerič (arXiv:1408.5315) that every conformal minimal immersion $M\to\mathbb R^3$ is isotopic to the real part of a holomorphic null curve $M\to\mathbb C^3$. In this paper, we prove the following much stronger result in this direction: for any $n\geq 3$, the inclusion $ι$ of the space of real parts of nonflat null holomorphic immersions $M\to\mathbb C^n$ into the space of nonflat conformal minimal immersions $M\to \mathbb R^n$ satisfies the parametric h-principle with approximation; in particular, it is a weak homotopy equiva…
Minimal surfaces with isothermal parameters admitting Bézier representation were studied by Cosin and Monterde. They showed that, up to an affine transformation, the Enneper surface is the only bi-cubic isothermal minimal surface. Here we study bi-quartic isothermal minimal surfaces and establish the general form of their generating functions in the Weierstrass representation formula. We apply an approach proposed by Ganchev to compute the normal curvature and show that, in contrast to the bi-cubic case, there is a variety of bi-quartic isothermal minimal surfaces. Based on the Bezier represen…
We give a proof of the classical Schwarz reflection principle for Jenkins-Serrin type minimal surfaces in the homogeneous three manifolds $E(κ, τ)$ for $κ\leqslant 0$ and $τ\geqslant 0$. In our previous paper we proved a reflection principle in Riemannian manifolds. The statements and techniques in the two papers are distinct.
We investigate minimal surfaces passing a given curve in $R^{3}$. Using the Frenet frame of a given curve and isothermal parameter, we derive the necessary and sufficient condition for minimal surface. Also we derive the parametric representation of two minimal surface families passing a circle and a helix as examples.
The aim of this work is to study how the asymptotic boundary of a minimal hypersurface in H^nxR determines the behavior of the hypersurface at finite points, in several geometric situations.
Based on works by Hopf, Weinberger, Hamilton and Evans, we state and prove the strong elliptic maximum principle for smooth sections in vector bundles over Riemannian manifolds and give some applications in Differential Geometry. Moreover, we use this maximum principle to obtain various rigidity theorems and Bernstein type theorems in higher codimension for minimal maps between Riemannian manifolds.
In this paper we study the minimal norm tensors for general third covariant tensors and fourth covariant tensors, using this we can give a new explanation of Weyl tensor and Cotten tensor: Weyl tensor is the minimal norm tensor of Riemannian curvature tensor and Cotten tensor is the minimal norm tensor of divergence of Riemannian curvature tensor, and we also get some useful inequalities by computation the norm of minimal norm tensors.
We establish a boundary maximum principle for free boundary minimal submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold with boundary, in any dimension and codimension. Our result holds more generally in the context of varifolds.
We prove a reflection principle for minimal surfaces in smooth (non necessarily analytic) three manifolds and we give an explicit application when the ambient space is just a smooth manifold.
Lawson-Osserman constructed three types of non-parametric minimal cones of high codimensions based on Hopf maps between spheres, which correspond to Lipschitz but non-differentiable solutions to the minimal surface equations, thereby making sharp contrast to the regularity theorem for minimal graphs of codimension 1. In this paper, we develop the constructions in a more general scheme. Once a mapping f between unit spheres is composited of a harmonic Riemannian submersion and a homothetic (i.e., up to a constant factor, isometric) minimal immersion, certain twisted graph of f can yield a non-p…
We prove that an m-dimensional minimal variety in a Riemannian manifold cannot touch the boundary at a point where the sum of the smallest m principal curvatures is greater than 0. We also prove an analogous result for varieties with bounded mean curvature.
We prove the two theorems of the title, settling two long standing questions in the local theory of singular minimal hypersurfaces. The sharpness of either result is with respect to its hypothesis on the size of the allowable singular sets. The proofs of both theorems rely heavily on the author's recent regularity and compactness theory for stable minimal hypersurfaces, and on earlier work of Ilmanen, Simon and Solomon--White.
Some optimization problems coming from the Differential Geometry, as for example, the minimal submanifolds problem and the harmonic maps problem are solved here via interior solutions of appropriate multitime optimal control problems. Section 1 underlines some science domains where appear multitime optimal control problems. Section 2 (Section 3) recalls the multitime maximum principle for optimal control problems with multiple (curvilinear) integral cost functionals and $m$-flow type constraint evolution. Section 4 shows that there exists a multitime maximum principle approach of multitime var…
The problem of finding all minimal surfaces presented in parametric form as polynomials of certain degree is discussed by many authors. It is known that the classical Enneper surface is (up to position in space and homothety) the only polynomial minimal surface of degree 3 in isothermal parameters. In higher degrees the problem is quite more complicated. Here we find a general form for the functions that generate a polynomial minimal surface of arbitrary degree via the Weierstrass formula and prove that any polynomial minimal surface of degree 5 in isothermal parameters may be considered as be…
We give a definition of isoclinic parametric surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^4_2$ and prove that such an isoclinic conformal immersion comes from two holomorphic functions. A Cauchy problem was proposed and solved, namely: construct an isoclinic and minimal positive (negative) spacelike surface in $\mathbb{R}^4_2$, containing a given positive (negative) real analytic curve. At last, we study the important and well-known Björling problem, providing some examples was given in the last section.
We study the intrinsic structure of parametric minimal discs in metric spaces admitting a quadratic isoperimetric inequality. We associate to each minimal disc a compact, geodesic metric space whose geometric, topological, and analytic properties are controlled by the isoperimetric inequality. Its geometry can be used to control the shapes of all curves and therefore the geometry and topology of the original metric space. The class of spaces arising in this way as intrinsic minimal discs is a natural generalization of the class of Ahlfors regular discs, well-studied in analysis on metric space…
