By considering the renormalization group flow between $N$ coupled Ising models in the UV and the cubic fixed point in the IR, we study the large $N$ behavior of the cubic fixed points in three dimensions. We derive a diagrammatic expansion for the $1/N$ corrections to correlation functions. Leading large $N$ corrections to conformal dimensions at the cubic fixed point are then evaluated using numeric conformal bootstrap data for the 3d Ising model.
We reconsider critical properties of O(N) scalar models with cubic interactions in $d>4$ dimensions using functional renormalization group equations. Working at next-to-leading order in the derivative expansion, we find non-trivial IR fixed points at small and intermediate N from beta functions for relevant cubic terms. The putative fixed point at large N suggested recently by higher spin holography and the epsilon-expansion is also discussed, with an emphasis on stability of the effective potential.
We consider the Ginzburg-Landau Hamiltonian with a cubic-symmetric quartic interaction and compute the renormalization-group functions to six-loop order in d=3. We analyze the stability of the fixed points using a Borel transformation and a conformal mapping that takes into account the singularities of the Borel transform. We find that the cubic fixed point is stable for N>N_c, N_c = 2.89(4). Therefore, the critical properties of cubic ferromagnets are not described by the Heisenberg isotropic Hamiltonian, but instead by the cubic model at the cubic fixed point. For N=3, the critical exponents…
The critical behavior of the two-dimensional N-vector cubic model is studied within the field-theoretical renormalization-group (RG) approach. The beta-functions and critical exponents are calculated in the five-loop approximation, RG series obtained are resummed using Pade-Borel-Leroy and conformal mapping techniques. It is found that for N = 2 the continuous line of fixed points is well reproduced by the resummed RG series and an account for the five-loop terms makes the lines of zeros of both beta-functions closer to each another. For N > 2 the five-loop contributions are shown to shift the…
We study the $O(2)$ model with $\mathbb{Z}_4$-symmetric perturbations within the framework of nonperturbative renormalization group (RG) for spatial dimensionality $d=2$ and $d=3$. In a unified framework we resolve the relatively complex crossover behavior emergent due to the presence of multiple RG fixed points. In $d=3$ the system is controlled by the $XY$, Ising, and low-$T$ fixed points in presence of a dangerously irrelevant anisotropy coupling $λ$. In $d=2$ the anisotropy coupling is marginal and the physical picture is governed by the interplay between two distinct lines of RG fixed poi…
We compute the scaling dimensions of a family of fixed-charge operators at the infrared fixed point of the $O(N)$ model featuring cubic interactions in $d=6-ε$ for arbitrary $N$ to leading and subleading order in the charge but to all orders in the couplings. The results are used to analyze the conjectured equivalence with the $O(N)$ model displaying quartic interactions at its ultraviolet fixed point. This is performed by comparing the cubic model scaling dimensions against the known large $N$ results for the quartic model and demonstrating that they match. Our results reinforce the conjectur…
The detailed analysis of the global structure of the renormalization-group (RG) flow diagram for a model with isotropic and cubic interactions is carried out in the framework of the massive field theory directly in three dimensions (3D) within an assumption of isotropic exchange. Perturbative expansions for RG functions are calculated for arbitrary $N$ up to the four-loop order and resummed by means of the generalized Pad$\acute{\rm e}$-Borel-Leroy technique. Coordinates and stability matrix eigenvalues for the cubic fixed point are found under the optimal value of the transformation parameter…
The $O(N)$ model with scalar quartic interactions at its ultraviolet fixed point, and the $O(N)$ model with scalar cubic interactions at its infra-red fixed point are conjectured to be equivalent. This has been checked by comparing various features of the two models at their respective fixed points. Recently, the scaling dimensions of a family of operators of fixed charge $Q$ have been shown to match at the FPs up to $\cal{O}\left(\frac{1}{N^2}\right)$at leading order (LO) and next-to-leading order (NLO) in $Q$ using a semiclassical computation which is valid to all orders in the coupling. Her…
For an anisotropic euclidean $ϕ^4$-theory with two interactions $[u (\sum_{i=1^M ϕ_i^2)^2+v \sum_{i=1}^M ϕ_i^4]$ the $β$-functions are calculated from five-loop perturbation expansions in $d=4-\varepsilon$ dimensions, using the knowledge of the large-order behavior and Borel transformations. For $\varepsilon=1$, an infrared stable cubic fixed point for $M \geq 3$ is found, implying that the critical exponents in the magnetic phase transition of real crystals are of the cubic universality class. There were previous indications of the stability based either on lower-loop expansions or on less re…
The six-loop expansions of the renormalization-group functions of $φ^4$ $n$-vector model with cubic anisotropy are calculated within the minimal subtraction (MS) scheme in $4 - \varepsilon$ dimensions. The $\varepsilon$ expansions for the cubic fixed point coordinates, critical exponents corresponding to the cubic universality class and marginal order parameter dimensionality $n_c$ separating different regimes of critical behavior are presented. Since the $\varepsilon$ expansions are divergent numerical estimates of the quantities of interest are obtained employing proper resummation technique…
Perovskites like LaAlO3 (or SrTiO3) undergo displacive structural phase transitions from a cubic crystal to a trigonal (or tetragonal) structure. For many years, the critical exponents in both these types of transitions have been fitted to those of the isotropic three-components Heisenberg model. However, field theoretical calculations showed that the isotropic fixed point of the renormalization group is unstable, and renormalization group iterations flow either to a cubic fixed point or to a fluctuation-driven first-order transition. Here we show that these two scenarios correspond to the cub…
We make an explicit link between the cubic interactions of off-shell fields and the on-shell three-point amplitudes in four dimensions. Both the cubic interactions and the on-shell three-point amplitudes had been independently classified in the literature, but their relation has not been made explicit. The aim of this note is to provide such a relation and discuss similarities and differences of their constructions. For the completeness of our analysis, we also derive the covariant form of all parity-odd massless vertices.
We present the complete set of universal one-loop beta functions of cubic gravity in six dimensions. The system admits over 8000 distinct fixed points, of which more than 200 are real. Some of them might be relevant for the quantisation of gravity in the physical case of four dimensions.
We study the exchange diagrams in the computation of four-point functions of all chiral primary operators in D=4, $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super-Yang-Mills using AdS/CFT correspondence. We identify all supergravity fields that can be exchanged and compute the cubic couplings. As a byproduct, we also rederive the normalization of the quadratic action of the exchanged fields. The cubic couplings computed in this paper and the propagators studied extensively in the literature can be used to compute almost all the exchange diagrams explicitly. Some issues in computing the complete four-point function in th…
We study the stability of the O(N) fixed point in three dimensions under perturbations of the cubic type. We address this problem in the three cases $N=2,3,4$ by using finite size scaling techniques and high precision Monte Carlo simulations. It is well know that there is a critical value $2<N_c<4$ below which the O(N) fixed point is stable and above which the cubic fixed point becomes the stable one. While we cannot exclude that $N_c<3$, as recently claimed by Kleinert and collaborators, our analysis strongly suggests that $N_c$ coincides with 3.
We study the geodesic two- and three-point functions of random weighted cubic maps, which are obtained by assigning random edge lengths to random cubic planar maps. Explicit expressions are obtained by taking limits of recently established bivariate multi-point functions of general planar maps. We give an alternative interpretation of the two-point function in terms of an Eden model exploration process on a random planar triangulation. Finally, the scaling limits of the multi-point functions are studied, showing in particular that the two- and three-point functions of the Brownian map are reco…
In cubic-order Horndeski theories where a scalar field $ϕ$ is coupled to nonrelativistic matter with a field-dependent coupling $Q(ϕ)$, we derive the most general Lagrangian having scaling solutions on the isotropic and homogenous cosmological background. For constant $Q$ including the case of vanishing coupling, the corresponding Lagrangian reduces to the form $L=Xg_2(Y)-g_3(Y)\square ϕ$, where $X=-\partial_μϕ\partial^μϕ/2$ and $g_2, g_3$ are arbitrary functions of $Y=Xe^{λϕ}$ with constant $λ$. We obtain the fixed points of the scaling Lagrangian for constant $Q$ and show that the $ϕ$-matter…
Recently a cubic Galileon cosmological model was derived by the assumption that the field equations are invariant under the action of point transformations. The cubic Galileon model admits a second conservation law which means that the field equations form an integrable system. The analysis of the critical points for this integrable model is the main subject of this work. To perform the analysis, we work on dimensionless variables different from that of the Hubble normalization. New critical points are derived while the gravitational effects which follow from the cubic term are studied.
