The vector $U$-bosons, or so called 'dark photons', are one of the possible candidates for the dark matter mediators. They are supposed to interact with the standard matter via a 'vector portal' due to the $U(1)-U(1)^\prime$ symmetry group mixing which might make them visible in particle and heavy-ion experiments. While there is no confirmed observation of dark photons, the detailed analysis of different experimental data allows to estimate the upper limit for the kinetic mixing parameter $ε^2$ depending on the mass $M_U$ of $U$-bosons which is also unknown. In this study we present theoretical constraints on the upper limit of $ε^2(M_U)$ in the mass range $M_U \le 0.6$ GeV from the comparison of the calculated dilepton spectra with the experimental data from the HADES Collaboration at SIS18 energies where the dark photons are not observed. Our analysis is based on the microscopic Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach which reproduces well the measured dilepton spectra in $p+p$, $p+A$ and $A+A$ collisions. Additionally to the different dilepton channels originating from interactions and decays of ordinary matter particles (mesons and baryons), we incorporate the decay of hypothetical $U$-bosons to dileptons, $U\to e^+e^-$, where the $U$-bosons themselves are produced by the Dalitz decay of pions $π^0\to γU$, $η$-mesons $η\to γU$ and Delta resonances $Δ\to N U$. Our analysis can help to estimate the requested accuracy for future experimental searches of 'light' dark photons by dilepton experiments.
We use the microscopic GiBUU transport model to calculate dilepton ($e^+e^-$) production in heavy-ion collisions at SIS18 energies focusing on the effect of collisional broadening of the $ρ$-meson. The collisional width of the $ρ$-meson at finite temperature and baryon density in nuclear matter is calculated on the basis of the collision integral of the GiBUU model. A systematic comparison with HADES data on dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions is performed. The collisional broadening of the $ρ$ improves the agreement between theory and experiment for the dilepton invariant-mass distrib…
We calculate the production of large mass dileptons from the jet-dilepton conversion in the expanding quark-gluon plasma at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. The jet-dilepton conversion exceeds the thermal dilepton production and Drell-Yan process in the large mass region of 3.9 GeV$<M<$5.8 GeV and 6.3 GeV$<M<$8.7 GeV in central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV, respectively. We present the numerical solution of ideal fluid hydrodynamics. We find that the transverse flow leads to a rapid cooling of the fire ball. The suppre…
Electromagnetic probes such as direct photons and dileptons are crucial to study the properties of a Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) created in heavy ion collisions. Based on the (3+1)-dimensional event-by-event viscous hydrodynamic model EPOS 3.102, we calculated the anisotropic emission of thermal photons and dileptons in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$~GeV. Thermal emissions from both QGP phase and hadronic gas phase are considered, with AMY rate for photons and Lattice QCD based rates for dileptons in QGP phase. For emission from hadron ga…
We calculate the production of large mass dileptons from the passage of jets passing through the quark-gluon plasma. Using the relativistic kinetic theory, we rigorously derive the production rate for the jet-dilepton conversion in the hot medium. The jet-dilepton conversion is compared with the thermal dilepton emission and the Drell-Yan process. The contribution of the jet-dilepton conversion is not prominent for all values of the invariant mass $M$, and the Drell-Yan process is found to dominate over the thermal dilepton emission and the jet-dilepton conversion for $M>$2.5 GeV at RHIC. The …
In sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions PHENIX reported a significant enhancement in the low-mass region (0.1 < m_ee < 0.7 GeV) of the dielectron spectrum, which is still not fully understood. Several theoretical works and an indirect measurement suggest that, due to the possible restoration of the U_A(1) part of the chiral symmetry in a hot and dense medium, the mass of the eta' meson may substantially decrease. This work reports on a statistically acceptable description of the PHENIX low-mass dilepton enhancement using a radial flow dominated meson spectra, chain decays of long-lived resonan…
We consider the production of a 300GeV dilepton in very intense 4GeV electron scattering off of a lead target. The production cross-section and angular distribution of the resulting muons are calculated. There occur several such events per year, and their detection is rendered feasible by measurement of $e^+μ^-μ^-$ angular correlations.
Dilepton production in In+In collisions at 158 AGeV is studied within the microscopic parton-hadron-string dynamics (PHSD) transport approach that incorporates explicit partonic degrees-of-freedom, dynamical hadronization as well as the more familiar hadronic dynamics in the final reaction stages. A comparison to the data of the NA60 Collaboration shows that the measured dilepton yield is well described by including the collisional broadening of vector mesons, while simultaneously accounting for the electromagnetic radiation of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (sQGP) via off-shell quark…
We present a fully relativistic and gauge invariant framework for calculating the cross sections of dilepton production in nucleon-nucleon (NN) collisions which is based on the meson-exchange approximation for the NN scattering amplitudes. Predictions of our model are compared with those of other covariant models that have been used to describe this reaction. We discuss the comparison of our calculations with the old DLS and the recent HADES data.
We calculate the dilepton emissions as the decay product of the charm and bottom quarks produced in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energy. We take into account the next-to-leading-order radiative corrections in perturbative QCD to the heavy quark production from both an initial hard parton-parton scattering and an ideal quark-gluon plasma. We find that the thermal charm decay dominates the dilepton production in the low dilepton mass region ($<2$ GeV), while the heavy quark production from the initial scattering takes over the intermediate and high mass regions ($> 2$ GeV). Our result also indic…
In an $e^- p$ collider, a striking signature for a dilepton gauge boson is \ep \ ; this cross-section is calculated by using the helicity amplitude technique. At HERA, with center-of-mass energy $\sqrt s = 314 GeV$, a dilepton mass above $150 GeV$ is inaccessible but at LEPII-LHC, with a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt s = 1790 GeV $, masses up to 650 GeV can be discovered. In an $e^+ e^-$ collider, the signature is \ee \ . The cross-sections of this process are also calculated for the center-of-mass energies $\sqrt s = 200, 500$ and $1000 GeV$.
Through the analysis of HELIOS-3 data obtained at the CERN SPS, we demonstrate the importance of secondary processes for dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions in the intermediate invariant mass region. We find that while the dilepton spectra between 1 to 2.5 GeV from proton-induced reactions can be attributed to the decay of primary vector mesons, charmed hadrons, and initial Drell-Yan processes; the strong enhancement seen in the heavy-ion data as compared to the background comes mainly from the secondary processes which are germane to heavy-ion collisions. Furthermore, we find $πa_1\to…
Dileptons are considered as one of the cleanest signals of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), however, the QGP radiation is masked by many 'background' sources from either hadronic decays or semileptonic decays from correlated charm pairs. In this study we investigate the relative contribution of these channels in heavy-ion collisions from $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 8 GeV to 5 TeV with a focus on the competition between the thermal QGP radiation and the semileptonic decays from correlated $D-$meson pairs. As a 'tool' we employ the parton-hadron-string dynamics (PHSD) transport approach to study dilepton …
In this paper we propose to use the measurement of the thermal Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) dilepton spectra in the Intermediate Mass Region (IMR) of heavy-ion collisions, as a new method to search for GeV-scale dark gauge bosons (gamma' or Z'). Such light mediators are a common feature of light (i.e. low mass) dark matter scenarios, which have been invoked to explain puzzling signals in dark matter indirect and direct detection experiments. First we show that a light gamma' or Z' will generate a resonant enhancement of the dilepton spectrum produced thermally by the QGP, at an energy correspondin…
We address dilepton production in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV by employing the parton-hadron-string dynamics (PHSD) off-shell transport approach. Within the PHSD one goes beyond the quasiparticle approximation by solving generalized transport equations on the basis of the off-shell Kadanoff-Baym equations for the Green's functions in the phase-space representation. The approach consistently describes the full evolution of a relativistic heavy-ion collision from the initial hard scatterings and string formation through the dynamical deconfinement phase transition to the quark-gluon p…
We investigate the significance of thermal dilepton radiation in the intermediate-mass region in heavy-ion reactions at CERN-SpS energies. Within a thermal fireball model for the space-time evolution, the radiation from hot matter is found to dominate over hard 'background' processes (Drell-Yan and open charm) up to invariant masses of about 2 GeV, with a rather moderate fraction emerging from early stages with temperatures $T\simeq 175-200$ MeV associated with deconfined matter. Further including a schematic acceptance for the NA50 experiment we find good agreement with the observed enhanceme…
We consider LHC searches for dilepton resonances in an intermediate mass range, $\sim 10 -80$ GeV. We adopt a kinetically mixed $Z'$ as an example of weakly coupled new physics that might have evaded detection at previous experiments but which could still be probed by LHC dilepton spectrum measurements in this mass range. Based on Monte Carlo simulations, we estimate that existing data from the 7 and 8 TeV LHC could be used to test values of the kinetic mixing parameter $ε$ several times smaller than precision electroweak upper bounds, were an appropriate analysis to be carried out by one of t…
Drell-Yan dilepton pair production and inclusive direct photon production can be described within a unified framework in the color dipole approach. The inclusion of non-perturbative primordial transverse momenta and DGLAP evolution is studied. We successfully describe data for dilepton spectra from 800-GeV pp collisions, inclusive direct photon spectra for pp collisions at RHIC energies $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV, and for $p\bar{p}$ collisions at Tevatron energies $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV, in a formalism that is free from any extra parameters.
Dileptons, as an electromagnetic probe, are crucial to study the properties of a Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) created in heavy ion collisions. We calculated the invariant mass spectra and the anisotropic emission of thermal dielectrons from Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$~GeV based on EPOS3. This approach provides a realistic (3+1)-dimensional event-by-event viscous hydrodynamic description of the expanding hot and dense matter with a very particular initial condition, and a large set of hadron data and direct photons (besides $v_{2}$ and $…
The QGP that might be created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is expected to radiate thermal dilepton radiation. However, this thermal dilepton radiation interferes with dileptons originating from hadron decays. In the invariant mass region between the $ϕ$ and $J/Ψ$ peak ($1\,$GeV$\lesssim M_{\ell^+ \ell^-} \lesssim 3 \,$GeV) the most substantial background of hadron decays originates from correlated D$\bar{\mathrm{D}}$-meson decays. We evaluate this background using a Langevin simulation for charm quarks. As background medium we utilize the well-tested UrQMD-hybrid model. The requir…
We present a nonperturbative dynamical study of $e^+e^-$ production in proton- nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS energies on the basis of a covariant transport approach. For p + A reactions the dilepton yield for invariant masses m $\leq $ 1.2 GeV is found to be dominated by the decays of the $η, ρ, ω$ and $Φ$ mesons in line with the findings of the CERES collaboration. For S + Au collisions at 200 GeV/A the dilepton yield is, however, dominated by $π^+π^-$ annihilation due to the high pion densities achieved. Whereas for `free' meson masses and form factors the experimental cross …

We discuss the emission of high momentum lepton pairs in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$200 GeV) and Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$5500 GeV). Yields of dileptons produced through interactions of jets with thermal partons have been calculated, with next-to-leading order corrections through hard thermal loops (HTL) resummation. They are compared to thermal dilepton emission and the Drell-Yan process. A complete leading order treatment of jet energy loss has been included. Jet-plasma interactions are found to dominate over thermal dilepton emission for all values…
Dilepton production from hot hadronic matter is studied in an effective chiral Lagrangian with pions, $ρ$-mesons, and $a_1$ mesons, We find that the production rates from reactions that involve axial-vector mesons dominate over contributions from all other reactions when the dilepton invariant mass is above 1.5 GeV.
The like sign dileptons provide the most promising signature for superparticle search in a large category of $R$-parity violating SUSY models. We estimate the like sign dilepton signals at the Tevatron collider, predicted by these models, over a wide region of the MSSM parameter space. One expects an unambiguous signal upto a gluino mass of $200 - 300$ GeV ($\geq 500$ GeV) with the present (proposed) accumulated luminosity of $\sim 0.1~(1)~{\rm fb}^{-1}$.
We discuss the recent status in the theoretical understanding of dilepton production in central heavy-ion reactions with the Pb-beam at the full CERN-SpS energy of 158 AGeV. In the low-mass region ($M\le$~1 GeV) a strong broadening of the vector meson resonances in hot and dense matter (especially for the $ρ$ meson) entails thermal dilepton rates very reminiscent to perturbative $q\bar q$ annihilation close to the expected phase boundary of the chiral symmetry restoring transition. A consistent description of the experimentally observed enhancement at both low and intermediate masses (1.5 GeV~…
We investigate the pp --> pp e+e- and quasifree pn --> pn e+e- reactions within an effective Lagrangian model at the laboratory kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV for which experimental data have recently been reported by the HADES Collaboration. The model uses a meson-exchange approximation to describe the initial nucleon-nucleon (NN) scattering. Contributions to the reaction amplitudes are included from the NN bremsstrahlung as well as from the excitation, propagation and radiative decay of the Delta(1230) isobar state. It is found that the HADES data on the e+e- invariant mass distribution in the p…
Dilepton production associated with minijets is calculated in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions using the first order approximation of the dilepton fragmentation functions of quarks and gluons. The full QCD evolution of the fragmentation functions is also studied. We find that the dilepton pairs from the fragmentation of minijets are comparable to direct Drell-Yan at $\sqrt{s}=200$ AGeV for small dilepton invariant mass $M\sim$ 1-2 GeV/c$^2$ while dominant over a large range of mass at $\sqrt{s}=6400$ AGeV.
Preliminary estimates suggest that excess dimuon production with invariant mass in the range 1.5 -- 2.5 GeV in nucleus-nucleus collisions can be explained on the basis of $η_c$ production. This appears to be consistent with all the peripheral and central collision data with various nuclei such as S-U at 200 GeV/nucleon except for the central collision data on Pb-Pb at 158 GeV/nucleon. Some explanations based on glueball production for Pb-Pb data are discussed.
We calculate elementary proton-proton and neutron-proton bremsstrahlung and their contribution to the $e^+e^-$ invariant mass distribution. At 4.9 GeV, the proton-proton contribution is larger than neutron-proton, but it is small compared to recent data. We then make a first calculation of bremsstrahlung in nucleon-nucleon reactions with multi-hadron final states. Again at 4.9 GeV, the many-body bremsstrahlung is larger than simple nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung by more than an order of magnitude in the low-mass region. When the bremsstrahlung contributions are summed with Dalitz decay of the …
We study the dynamics of open charm production and the dilepton radiation of the semi-leptonic decays of correlated $D\bar D$ pairs versus the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) radiation and hadronic sources in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Our study is based on the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach employing a non-perturbative QCD description of the strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma (sQGP) in terms of dynamical quasiparticles and the EoS based on lattice QCD. We compare the PHSD results for charm observables with the calculations from BAMPS (Boltzmann Approach to Multi…
In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{s} >$ 20 (120) A$\cdot$GeV a copious production of charm (bottom) production sets in which, via correlated semileptonic $D \bar D$ ($B \bar B$) decays, gives rise to a dilepton yield at invariant mass $M \approx$ 2 -- 3 GeV in excess of the Drell-Yan yield and the thermal dilepton signal from deconfined matter as well. We show that appropriate single-electron transverse momentum cuts (suitable for ALICE at LHC) cause a threshold like behavior of the dilepton spectra from heavy-quark meson decays and the Drell-Yan process and can allow to obse…
We discuss how dilepton production is related to chiral symmetry and its restoration. We then analyse presently available data by the CERES collaboration in this context. We find that the present data do not support any conclusions concerning the restoration of chiral symmetry. We finally provide a prediction for the dilepton spectrum for the just completed low energy (40 GeV) run at the SPS.
Relativistic, kinematically complete phenomenological expressions for the dilepton decay rates of nucleon resonances with arbitrary spin and parity are derived in terms of the magnetic, electric, and Coulomb transition form factors. The dilepton decay rates of the nucleon resonances with masses below 2 GeV are estimated using the extended vector meson dominance model for the transition form factors. The model provides a unified description of the photo- and electroproduction data, the vector meson decays, and the dilepton decays of the nucleon resonances. The constraints on the transition form…
Recently the first single photon spectra from CERN energy heavy-ion collisions were reported by WA80, while NA34/3 and NA38 have obtained the spectra for dileptons with the mass up to 4-5 GeV. The production rates for photons and dileptons significantly increase when reactions involving the $A_1$ meson are included. However, with the conventional expansion scenario, the absolute yields are still significantly smaller than the observed ones. It may indicate that expansion in the ``mixed state" takes much more time.
It has been predicted that dilepton production may be used as a quark-gluon plasma probe. We calculate the rapidity distributions of thermal dileptons produced by an evolving quark-gluon plasma assuming a longitudinal scaling expansion with initial conditions locally determined from the hadronic rapidity density. These distributions are compared with Drell-Yan production and semileptonic charm decays at invariant mass $M = 2$, 4, and 6 GeV.
Within an effective Lagrangian model, we present calculations for cross sections of the dilepton production in proton-proton and proton-neutron collisions at laboratory kinetic energies in 1-5 GeV range. Production amplitudes include contributions from the nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung as well as from the mechanism of excitation, propagation, and radiative decay of Delta(1232) and N*(1520) intermediate baryonic resonances. It is found that the delta isobar terms dominate the cross sections in the entire considered beam energy range. Our calculations are able to explain the data of the DLS col…
Radiation of dileptons and photons from high energy nuclear collisions provides information on the space-time evolution of the hot dense matter produced therein. We compute this radiation using relativistic hydrodynamics and a coarse-grained version of the microscopic event generator UrQMD, both of which provide a good description of the hadron spectra. The currently most accurate dilepton and photon emission rates from perturbative QCD and from experimentally-based hadronic calculations are used. Comparisons are made to data on central Pb-Pb and Pb-Au collisions taken at the CERN SPS at a bea…
Naturalness arguments imply the existence of higgsinos lighter than 200-300 GeV. However, because these higgsinos are nearly mass degenerate, they release very little visible energy in their decays, and (even putting aside triggering issues) signals from electroweak higgsino pair production typically remain buried under Standard Model backgrounds. Prospects for detecting higgsino pair production via events with monojets or mono-photons from initial state radiation are also bleak because of signal-to-background rates typically at the 1% level. Here, we consider the possibility of reducing backg…
The production of dileptons with an invariant mass in the range 1 GeV < M < 5 GeV provides unique insight into the approach to thermal equilibrium in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. In this mass range, they are produced through the annihilation of quark-antiquark pairs in the early stages of the collision. They are sensitive to the anisotropy of the quark momentum distribution, and also to the quark abundance, which is expected to be underpopulated relative to thermal equilibrium. We take into account both effects based on recent theoretical developments in QCD kinetic theory, an…
Dilepton invariant-mass spectra for heavy-ion collisions at SIS 18 and BEVALAC energies are calculated using a coarse-grained time evolution from the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model. The coarse-graining of the microscopic simulations enables to calculate thermal dilepton emission rates by application of in-medium spectral functions from equilibrium quantum-field theoretical calculations. The results show that extremely high baryon chemical potentials dominate the evolution of the created hot and dense fireball. Consequently, a significant modification of the $ρ$ spe…
An analysis of the dilepton measurements of the reactions Pb(158 A$\cdot$GeV) + Au, Pb by the CERES and NA50 collaborations points to a unique thermal source contributing to the invariant mass and transverse momentum spectra.
A quantitative evaluation of dilepton sources in heavy-ion reactions is performed taking into account both thermal and non-thermal production mechanisms. The hadronic thermal emission rate is based on an electromagnetic current-correlation function with a low-mass region (LMR, M \lsim 1 GeV) dominated by vector mesons (ρ, ω, ϕ) and an intermediate-mass region (IMR, 1 GeV \le M \le 3 GeV) characterized by (the onset of) a multi-meson continuum. A convolution of the emission rates over a thermal fireball expansion results in good agreement with experiment in the low-mass spectra, confirming the …
We use a simple QCD-based model to study particle production in S+Au collisions at 200 GeV/n. A requisite consistency is met for the hadronic observables (pi0 and pi- spectra) while pursuing estimates for e+e- production. Since radiative decays of initially produced hadrons has accounted for only a portion of the observed dileptons at the CERN SPS, we search for additional mechanisms. By including contributions from prompt secondary hadronic scatterings, pi rho -> pi e+e-, and adding to pi+ pi- annihilation and hadronic decays, the ``excess'' dilepton signal can possibly be interpreted.
In this paper, we perform a detailed analysis on the same-sign dilepton signature in the inert doublet model. Focusing on the low dark matter mass region, we randomly scan the corresponding parameter space. Viable samples allowed by various constraints are obtained, among which twenty benchmark points are selected for further collider signature study. At hadron colliders, the same-sign dilepton signature is produced via $pp\to W^{\pm *}W^{\pm *}jj \to H^\pm H^\pm jj$ with the leptonic decay mode $ H^\pm \to HW^\pm (\to l^\pm ν)$, where $H$ is the dark matter candidate. We investigate the testa…
The Inert Doublet Model is one of the simplest and most versatile scenarios for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this work, we examine the prospects for detecting the additional fields of this model at the LHC in the dilepton channel. We investigate a wide variety of theoretically- and phenomenologically-motivated benchmark scenarios, and show that within regions of model parameter space in which the dark-matter candidate is relatively light (between 40 and 80 GeV) and the mass splitting between the neutral scalars is also roughly 40 - 80 GeV, a signal at the 3 sigma to 12 sigma significa…
An analysis of the dilepton measurements in the reactions Pb(158 A$\cdot$GeV) + Au, Pb points to a unique thermal source contributing to the invariant mass and transverse momentum spectra. Effects of the flow pattern are discussed.
We study the invariant-mass distributions of dileptons produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at very low pair transverse momenta, $P_T\leq 0.15$ GeV. Specifically, we investigate the interplay of thermal radiation with initial photon annihilation processes, $γγ\to l^+ l^-$, triggered by the coherent electromagnetic fields of the incoming nuclei. For the thermal radiation, we employ the emission from the QGP and hadronic phases with in-medium vector spectral functions which describes the inclusive excess radiation observed over a wide range of collision energies. For the coherent p…
The isolated like sign dilepton signature for gluino production is investigated at the LHC energy for the $R$ conserving as well as the $L$ and $B$ violating SUSY models over a wide range of the parameter space. One gets viable signals for gluino masses of 300 and 600 GeV for both $R$ conserving and $L$ violating models, while it is less promising for the $B$ violating case. For a 1000 GeV gluino, the $L$ violating signal should still be viable; but the $R$ conserving signal becomes too small at least for the low luminosity option of LHC.
Specific results of the computer simulation of dilepton production from expanding pion gas created in Pb+Pb 160 GeV/n collisions are presented. Azimuthal asymmetry of dilepton pairs in non-central collisions and interesting shape of the rapidity distribution of dilepton pairs are predicted. These results are understood on theoretical level as a consequence of momentum and space asymmetries in the initial state of pion gas without any assumption of thermalization. Implication on the production of dileptons in pre-hadronic phase of HIC is drawn.
We consider particle production in high energy pA collisions. In addition to the coherent interactions with the nuclear color field, we take into account coherent interactions with the nuclear electromagnetic Coulomb field. Employing the dipole model, we sum up the leading multiple color and electromagnetic interactions and derive inclusive cross sections for photon and dilepton production. We found that the Coulomb corrections are up to $10\%$ at $\sqrt{s}=200$~GeV per nucleon.
The so-called $M_T$ scaling for dilepton spectra at RHIC energies is examined. It is seen that a proper accounting of the complete set of dilepton producing processes forces us to abandon the proposed scaling around $M_T$ = 2.6 GeV, which has been put forward as a possible signature of the presence of quark-matter. Any substantial transverse expansion in the QGP phase itself will also offset this scaling behaviour. The rates of lepton pair production are time--integrated in Bjorken hydrodynamics and the different sources are compared against each other.
We explore the ΔL=2 same-sign dilepton signal from top-quark decay via a Majorana neutrino at the LHC in the top anti-top pair production samples. The signature is same-sign dilepton plus multi-jets with no significant missing energy. The most optimistic region lies where the Majorana neutrino mass is between 15-65 GeV. For 300 fb^-1 integrated luminosity, it is possible to probe S_{ij}, the effective mixing parameter, to order of 10^-5.
The elliptic flows of thermal di-electrons are investigated within a (2+1)-dimension event-by-event hydrodynamic model for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV. The fluctuating initial conditions are given by the Monte Carlo Glauber model. We find in our event-by-event calculation rather weak correlation between the dilepton emission angles and the event plane angles of charged hadrons. We observe strong fluctuation effects in dilepton elliptic flows when using the event plane angles of dileptons at specific invariant mass $M$. The correlation between the dilepton event plane angle and …
We investigate dilepton production in transport-based approaches and show that the baryon couplings of the $ρ$ meson represent the most important ingredient for understanding the measured dilepton spectra. At low energies (of a few GeV), the baryon resonances naturally play a larger role and affect already the vacuum spectra via Dalitz-like contributions, which can be captured well in an on-shell-transport scheme. At higher energies, the baryons mostly affect the in-medium self energy of the $ρ$, which is harder to tackle in transport models and requires advanced techniques.
