We define and study the notion of a crossed module over an inverse semigroup and the corresponding $4$-term exact sequences, called crossed module extensions. For a crossed module $A$ over an $F$-inverse monoid $T$, we show that equivalence classes of admissible crossed module extensions of $A$ by $T$ are in a one-to-one correspondence with the elements of the cohomology group $H^3_\le(T^1,A^1)$.
In this paper we show that if $Y$ is a subsemilattice of a finite semilattice indecomposable semigroup $S$ then $|Y|\leq 2\left\lfloor \frac{|S|-1}{4}\right\rfloor+1$. We also characterize finite semilattice indecomposable semigroups $S$ which contains a subsemilattice $Y$ with $|S|=4k+1$ and $|Y|=2\left\lfloor \frac{|S|-1}{4}\right\rfloor+1=2k+1$. They are special inverse semigroups. Our investigation is based on our new result proved in this paper which characterize finite semilattice indecomposable semigroups with a zero by only use the properties of its semigroup algebra.
We introduce the concept of an extension of a semilattice of groups $A$ by a group $G$ and describe all the extensions of this type which are equivalent to the crossed products $A*_ΘG$ by twisted partial actions $Θ$ of $G$ on $A$. As a consequence, we establish a one-to-one correspondence, up to an isomorphism, between twisted partial actions of groups on semilattices of groups and so-called Sieben twisted modules over $E$-unitary inverse semigroups.
An inverse Clifford semigroup (often referred to as just a Clifford semigroup) is a semilattice of groups. It is an inverse semigroup and in fact, one of the earliest studied classes of semigroups. In this short note, we discuss various structural aspects of a Clifford semigroup from a cross-connection perspective. In particular, given a Clifford semigroup, we show that the semigroup of normal cones is isomorphic to the original semigroup, even when it is not a monoid. Hence, we see that cross-connection description degenerates in Clifford semigroups. Further, we specialise the discussion to p…
The purpose of this paper is to study the generalization of inverse semigroups (without order). An ordered semigroup S is called an inverse ordered semigroup if for every a 2 S, any two inverses of a are H-related. We prove that an ordered semigroup is complete semilattice of t-simple ordered semigroups if and only if it is completely regular and inverse. Furthermore characterizations of inverse ordered semigroups have been characterized by their ordered idempotents.
In this paper we discuss graph inverse semigroups which are constucted from a directed graphs and study several interesting properties of graph inverse semigroups such as the nature of its idempotents, the structure of semilattice of idempotents and the like. A necessary and sufficient condition on directed graphs to have the corresponding graph inverse semigroups are primitive inverse semigroups is provided. Further the general form of elements in local submonoids of the graph inverse semigroups and the Green s relations in graph inverse semigroups in graph theoretic terms are also described
We study the class of symmetric $n$-ary bands. These are $n$-ary semigroups $(X,F)$ such that $F$ is invariant under the action of permutations and idempotent, i.e., satisfies $F(x,\ldots,x)=x$ for all $x\in X$. We first provide a structure theorem for these symmetric $n$-ary bands that extends the classical (strong) semilattice decomposition of certain classes of bands. We introduce the concept of strong $n$-ary semilattice of $n$-ary semigroups and we show that the symmetric $n$-ary bands are exactly the strong $n$-ary semilattices of $n$-ary extensions of Abelian groups whose exponents divi…
The algebraic extension $\boldsymbol{B}_{\mathbb{Z}}^{\mathscr{F}}$ of the extended bicyclic semigroup for an arbitrary $ω$-closed family $\mathscr{F}$ subsets of $ω$ is introduced. It is proven that $\boldsymbol{B}_{\mathbb{Z}}^{\mathscr{F}}$ is a combinatorial inverse semigroup. Green's relations, the natural partial order on the semigroup $\boldsymbol{B}_{\mathbb{Z}}^{\mathscr{F}}$ and its set of idempotents are described. The criteria of simplicity, $0$-simplicity, bisimplicity, $0$-bisimplicity of the semigroup $\boldsymbol{B}_{\mathbb{Z}}^{\mathscr{F}}$ and the criterion for $\boldsymbol…
We study the semigroup $\textbf{ID}_{\infty}$ of all partial isometries of the set of integers $\mathbb{Z}$. It is proved that the quotient semigroup $\textbf{ID}_{\infty}/\mathfrak{C}_{\textsf{mg}}$, where $\mathfrak{C}_{\textsf{mg}}$ is the minimum group congruence, is isomorphic to the group ${\textsf{Iso}}(\mathbb{Z})$ of all isometries of $\mathbb{Z}$, $\textbf{ID}_{\infty}$ is an $F$-inverse semigroup, and $\textbf{ID}_{\infty}$ is isomorphic to the semidirect product ${\textsf{Iso}}(\mathbb{Z})\ltimes_\mathfrak{h}\mathscr{P}_{\!\infty}(\mathbb{Z})$ of the free semilattice with unit $(\m…
Locally inverse semigroups are regular semigroups whose idempotents form pseudo-semilattices. We characterise the categories that correspond to locally inverse semigroups in the realm of Nambooripad's cross-connection theory. Further, we specialise our cross-connection description of locally inverse semigroups to inverse semigroups and completely 0-simple semigroups, obtaining structure theorems for these classes. In particular, we show that the structure theorem for inverse semigroups can be obtained using only one category, quite analogous to the Ehresmann-Schein-Nambooripad Theorem; for com…
Given a semigroup S with zero, which is left-cancellative in the sense that st=sr \neq 0 implies that t=r, we construct an inverse semigroup called the inverse hull of S, denoted H(S). When S admits least common multiples, in a precise sense defined below, we study the idempotent semilattice of H(S), with a focus on its spectrum. When S arises as the language semigroup for a subsift X on a finite alphabet, we discuss the relationship between H(S) and several C*-algebras associated to X appearing in the literature.
In the paper we investigate the semigroup of monotone co-finite partial homeomorphisms of the space of the usual real line $\mathbb{R}$. We prove that the inverse semigroup $\mathscr{P\!\!H}^+_{\!\!\operatorname{\textsf{cf}}}\!(\mathbb{R})$ is factorizable and $F$-inverse. We describe the structure of the band of the semigroup $\mathscr{P\!\!H}^+_{\!\!\operatorname{\textsf{cf}}}\!(\mathbb{R})$, its two-sided ideals, maximal subgroups and Green's relations. We prove that the quotient semigroup $\mathscr{P\!\!H}^+_{\!\!\operatorname{\textsf{cf}}}\!(\mathbb{R})/\mathfrak{C}_{\textsf{mg}}$, where …
The representation theory of finite groups began with Frobenius's factorization of Dedekind's group determinant. In this paper, we consider the case of the semigroup determinant. The semigroup determinant is nonzero if and only if the complex semigroup algebra is Frobenius, and so our results include applications to the study of Frobenius semigroup algebras. We explicitly factor the semigroup determinant for commutative semigroups and inverse semigroups. We recover the Wilf-Lindström factorization of the semigroup determinant of a meet semilattice and Wood's factorization for a finite commutat…
In 1959, P. Hall introduced the locally finite group $\mathcal{U}$, today known as Hall's universal group. This group is countable, universal, simple, and any two finite isomorphic subgroups are conjugate in $\mathcal{U}$. It can be explicitly described as a direct limit of finite symmetric groups. It is homogeneous in the model-theoretic sense since it is the Fraisse limit of the class of all finite groups. Since its introduction Hall's group, and several natural generalisations, have been widely studied. In this article we use a generalisation of Fraisse theory to construct a countable, univ…
