The integration of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide crystals (TMDCs) into a dielectric environment is critical for optoelectronic and photonic device applications. Here, we investigate the effects of direct deposition of different dielectric materials (Al$_2$O$_3$, SiO$_2$, SiN$_x$) onto atomically thin (monolayer) TMDC WS$_2$ on its optical response. Atomic layer deposition (ALD), electron beam evaporation (EBE), plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD), and magnetron sputtering methods of material deposition are investigated. The photoluminescence (PL) measurements reveal quenching of the excitonic emission after all deposition processes. The reduction in neutral exciton PL is linked to the increased level of charge doping and associated rise of the trion emission, and/or the localized (bound) exciton emission. Furthermore, Raman spectroscopy allows us to clearly correlate the observed changes of excitonic emission with the increased levels of lattice disorder and defects. Overall, the EBE process results in the lowest level of doping and defect densities and preserves the spectral weight of the exciton emission in the PL, as well as the exciton oscillator strength. Encapsulation with ALD appears to cause chemical changes, which makes it distinct from all other techniques. Sputtering is revealed as the most aggressive deposition method for WS$_2$, fully quenching its optical response. Our results demonstrate and quantify the effects of direct deposition of dielectric materials onto monolayer WS$_2$, which can provide a valuable guidance for the efforts to integrate monolayer TMDCs into functional optoelectronic devices.
Two-dimensional materials such as transitional metal dichalcogenides exhibit unique optical and electrical properties. Here we report on the varying optical properties of CVD grown MoS2 monolayer flakes with different shapes. In particular, it is observed that the perimeter and the central region of the flakes have non-uniform photoluminescence (PL) energy and intensity. We quantified these effects systematically and propose that thermally induced strain during growth is the origin. The strain relaxation after transfer of the MoS2 flakes supports this explanation. Detailed investigations of th…
Although technologically challenging, the integration of ferroelectric thin films with graphene spintronics potentially allows the realization of highly efficient, electrically tuneable, non-volatile memories. Here, the atomic layer deposition (ALD) of ferroelectric Hf$_{0.5}$Zr$_{0.5}$O$_2$ (HZO) directly on graphene (Gr)/Co/heavy metal (HM) epitaxial stacks is investigated via the implementation of several nucleation methods. With an in-situ method employing an Al$_2$O$_3$ layer, the HZO demonstrates a remanent polarization (2Pr) of 19.2 $μC/cm^2$. An ex-situ, naturally oxidized sputtered Ta…
A process of atomic layer deposition combined with self assembled monolayers was used to investigate the possible modification of polyurethane paint surfaces. First, we used an ALD process to produce thin and uniform Al2O3 coatings of these surfaces at temperatures as low as 40 degrees. We then successfully achieved the addition of 16phosphonohexadecanoic acid SAMs to the Al2O3 coated paint samples. Al2O3 coatings reduced the contact angle of the PUR surfaces from 110 to 10 degrees, accompanied by an initial hydrophobicity which however was not stable. over time. Addition of SAMs on the Al2O3 …

Sub-monolayer physical layer deposition of Zn on Ag(111) substrate at room temperature is investigated using Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy. We identified an original Zn highly-anisotropic structure in the shape of finger-like inserted dendrite in front of Zn monolayer growth. On the basis of STM observations, a mechanism of inserted dendritic growth and a mechanism of its transition to layered growth are proposed.
The deposition of dielectric materials on graphene is one of the bottlenecks for unlocking the potential of graphene in electronic applications. In this paper we demonstrate the plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition of 10 nm thin high quality Al$_2$O$_3$ on graphene using a monolayer of hBN as protection layer. Raman spectroscopy was performed to analyze possible structural changes of the graphene lattice caused by the plasma deposition. The results show that a monolayer of hBN in combination with an optimized deposition process can effectively protect graphene from damage, while significant…
Recently, monolayer SnS, a two-dimensional group IV monochalcogenide, was grown on a mica substrate at the micrometer-size scale by the simple physical vapor deposition (PVD), resulting in the successful demonstration of its in-plane room temperature ferroelectricity. However, the reason behind the monolayer growth remains unclear because it had been considered that the SnS growth inevitably results in a multilayer thickness due to the strong interlayer interaction arising from lone pair electrons. Here, we investigate the PVD growth of monolayer SnS from two different feed powders, highly pur…
We report a determination of the complex in-plane dielectric function of monolayers of four transition metal dichalcogenides: MoS2, MoSe2, WS2 and WSe2, for photon energies from 1.5 - 3 eV. The results were obtained from reflection spectra using a Kramers-Kronig constrained variational analysis. From the dielectric functions, we obtain the absolute absorbance of the monolayers. We also provide a comparison of the dielectric function for the monolayers with the corresponding bulk materials.
Dielectrics are insulating materials used in many different electronic devices and play an important role in all of them. Current advanced electronic devices use dielectric materials with a high dielectric constant and avoid high leakage currents. However, these materials show several intrinsic problems, and also a bad interaction with adjacent materials. Therefore, the race for finding a suitable dielectric material for current and future electronic devices is still open. In this context two dimensional [2D] materials have become a serious option, not only thanks to their advanced properties,…
We report one-pot chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of large-area Janus SeMoS monolayers, with the asymmetric top (Se) and bottom (S) chalcogen atomic planes with respect to the central transition metal (Mo) atoms. The formation of these two-dimensional semiconductor monolayers takes place upon the thermodynamic equilibrium-driven exchange of the bottom Se atoms of the initially grown MoSe2 single crystals on gold foils with S atoms. The growth process is characterized by complementary experimental techniques including Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the growth mechanisms a…
Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), especially MoS2 and WS2 recently attract extensive attentions due to their rich physics and great potential applications. Superior to graphene, MS2 (M = Mo/W) monolayers have a native direct energy gap in visible frequency range. This promises great future of MS2 for optoelectronics. To exploit properties and further develop more applications, producing large-scale single crystals of MS2 by a facile method is highly demanded. Here, we report the synthesis of large-scale triangular single crystals of WS2 monolayer from a chemical vap…
Pulsed-laser deposition has been used to grow epitaxial thin films of the giant-dielectric-constant material CaCu_3Ti_4O_{12} on LaAlO_3 and SrTiO_3 substrates with or without various conducting buffer layers. The latter include YBa_2Cu_3O_7, La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_{4+δ} and LaNiO_3. Above 100K - 150K the thin films have a temperature independent dielectric constant as do single crystals. The value of the dielectric constant is of the order of 1500 over a wide temperature region, potentially making it a good candidate for many applications. The frequency dependence of its dielectric properties …
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is an essential tool in semiconductor device fabrication that allows the growth of ultrathin and conformal films to precisely form heterostructures and tune interface properties. The self-limiting nature of the chemical reactions during ALD provides excellent control over the layer thickness. However, in contrast to idealized growth models, it is experimentally challenging to create continuous monolayers by ALD because surface inhomogeneities and precursor steric interactions result in island growth during film nucleation. Thus, the ability to create pin-hole free…
Application of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) in photonic, optoelectronic or valleytronic devices requires the growth of continuous monolayers, heterostructures and alloys of different materials in a single process. We present a facile pulsed thermal deposition method which provides precise control over layer thickness and stoichiometry of two-dimensional systems. The versatility of the method is demonstrated on ternary monolayers of Mo$_{1-x}$W$_{x}$S$_{2}$ and on heterostructures combining metallic TaS$_{2}$ and semiconducting MoS$_{2}$ layers. The fabricated ternary monolayers cove…
We report on a large improvement in the wetting of Al2O3 thin films grown by un-seeded atomic layer deposition on monolayer graphene, without creating point defects. This enhanced wetting is achieved by greatly increasing the nucleation density through the use of polar traps induced on the graphene surface by an underlying metallic substrate. The resulting Al2O3/graphene stack is then transferred to SiO2 by standard methods.
In this paper we demonstrated the thermal Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) growth at 250 °C of highly homogeneous and ultra-thin ($\approx$ 3.6 nm) $Al_2O_3$ films with excellent insulating properties directly onto a monolayer (1L) $MoS_2$ membrane exfoliated on gold. Differently than in the case of 1L $MoS_2$ supported by a common insulating substrate ($Al_2O_3/Si$), a better nucleation process of the high-k film was observed on the 1L $MoS_2/Au$ system since the ALD early stages. Atomic force microscopy analyses showed a $\approx 50\%$ $Al_2O_3$ surface coverage just after 10 ALD cycles, its in…
We investigate the structural damage of graphene underlying dielectrics (HfO2 and Al2O3) by remote plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PE-ALD). Dielectric film is grown on bilayer graphene without inducing significant damage to the bottom graphene layer. Based on Raman spectra, we demonstrate that the bottom graphene layer has the salient features of single layer graphene. During the initial half-cycle PE-ALD, the upper graphene layer reacts with the metal precursor, forming uniform nucleation islands or an active metallic carbide layer. After monolayer dielectric coverage, the bottom gra…
Semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have attracted a lot of attention recently, because of their interesting electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. Among large numbers of TMDCs, monolayer of tungsten diselenides (WSe2) is of particular interest since it possesses a direct band gap and tunable charge transport behaviors, which make it suitable for a variety of electronic and optoelectronic applications. Direct synthesis of large domains of monolayer WSe2 and their growth mechanism studies are important steps toward applications of WSe2. Here, we report systematical …
Photoluminescence (PL) of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayers is strongly influenced by the dielectric environment. The defect states present in the substrate induces uncontrollable doping in the TMD monolayer and thereby modifies the PL spectra. There have been enormous efforts to tune and overcome the effect of inevitable subtract defects in PL spectra, but a proper understanding and a convenient way are still lacking. Here, we systematically studied the effect of surface defects by gradually increasing the separation between WS2 monolayer and substrate. Hence, we could precisel…
Self-assembled monolayers of 1,3,5-tris(4'-biphenyl-4"-carbonitrile)benzene, a large functional trinitrile molecule, on the (111) surfaces of copper and silver under ultrahigh vacuum conditions were studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and low-energy electron diffraction. A densely packed hydrogen-bonded polymorph was equally observed on both surfaces. Additionally, deposition onto Cu(111) yielded a well-ordered metal-coordinated porous polymorph that coexisted with the hydrogen-bonded structure. The required coordination centers were supplied by the adatom gas of the Cu(111) surface. On A…
In most envisioned applications, full utilization of a graphene-carbon nanotube (CNT) construct requires maintaining the integrity of the graphene layer during the CNT growth step. In this work, we exhibit an approach towards controlled CNT growth atop graphene substrates where the reaction equilibrium between source hydrocarbon decomposition and carbon saturation into and precipitation from the catalyst nanoparticles shifts towards CNT growth rather than graphene consumption. By utilizing C2H4 feedstock, we demonstrate that the low temperature growth permissible with this gas suppresses undes…
Monolayers of transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) hold great promise as future nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices. An essential feature for achieving high device performance is the use of suitable supporting substrates, which can affect the electronic and optical properties of these two-dimensional (2D) materials. Here, we perform many-body GW calculations using the SternheimerGW method to investigate the quasiparticle band structure of monolayer MoS2 subject to an effective dielectric screening model, which is meant to approximately describe substrate polarization in real device ap…
WO3 thin films were grown by atomic layer deposition and spectroscopic ellipsometry data gathered in the photon energy range of 0.72-8.5 eV and from multiple samples was utilized to determine the frequency dependent complex-valued isotropic dielectric function for WO3. We employ a critical-point model dielectric function analysis and determine a parameterized set of oscillators and compare the observed critical-point contributions with the vertical transition energy distribution found within the band structure of WO3 calculated by density functional theory. We investigate surface roughness wit…
Moiré superlattices of two-dimensional van der Waals materials have emerged as a powerful platform for designing electronic band structures and discovering emergent physical phenomena. A key concept involves the creation of long-wavelength periodic potential and moiré bands in a crystal through interlayer hybridization when two materials are overlaid. Here we demonstrate a new approach based on spatially periodic dielectric screening to create moiré bands in a monolayer semiconductor. It relies on reduced dielectric screening of the Coulomb interactions in monolayer semiconductors and their en…
For single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) field effect transistors, vertical scaling of high k dielectrics by atomic layer deposition (ALD) currently stands at ~8nm with subthreshold swing S~70-90 mV/decade at room temperature. ALD on as-grown pristine SWNTs is incapable of producing a uniform and conformal dielectric layer due to the lack of functional groups on nanotubes and that nucleation of an oxide dielectric layer in the ALD process hinges upon covalent chemisorption on reactive groups on surfaces. Here, we show that by non-covalent functionalization of SWNTs with ploy-T DNA molecules (d…
We investigate the integration of Al2O3 high-k dielectric on two-dimensional (2D) crystals of boron nitride (BN) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) by atomic layer deposition (ALD). We demonstrate the feasibility of direct ALD growth with trimethylaluminum(TMA) and water as precursors on both 2D crystals. Through theoretical and experimental studies, we found that the initial ALD cycles play the critical role, during which physical adsorption dominates precursor adsorption at the semiconductor surface. We model the initial ALD growth stages at the 2D surface by analyzing Lennard-Jones Potentials,…
Emerging flexible and wearable technologies such as healthcare electronics and energy-harvest devices could be transformed by the unique properties of graphene. The vision for a graphene-driven industrial revolution is motivating intensive research on the synthesis of (1) high quality and (2) low cost graphene. Hot-wall chemical vapour deposition (CVD) is one of the most competitive growth methods, but its long processing times are incompatible with production lines. Here we demonstrate the growth of high quality monolayer graphene using a technique that is 100 times faster than standard hot-w…
We show that by combining high-k dielectric substrate and high density of charge carriers, Coulomb impurity can be effectively screened, leading to an unprecedented room-temperature mobility of ~150cm2/Vs in monolayer MoS2. The high sample quality enables us to quantitatively extract the mobility components limited by Coulomb impurities, intrinsic and surface optical phonons, and study their scaling with temperature, carrier density and dielectric constant. The excellent agreement between our theoretical analysis and experimental data demonstrates unambiguously that room-temperature phonon-lim…
First-principles studies of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides have contributed considerably to the understanding of their dielectric, optical, elastic, and vibrational properties. The majority of works to date focus on a single material or physical property. Here we use a single first-principles methodology on the whole family of systems, to investigate in depth the relationships between different physical properties, the underlying symmetry and the composition of these materials, and observe trends. We compare to bulk counterparts to show strong interlayer effects in triclinic …
Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) is a promising technique for growing ultrathin, pristine dielectrics on metal substrates, which is essential to many electronic devices. Tunnel junctions are an excellent example which require a leak-free, ultrathin dielectric tunnel barrier of typical thickness around 1 nm between two metal electrodes. A challenge in the development of ultrathin dielectric tunnel barrier using ALD is controlling the nucleation of dielectrics on metals with minimal formation of native oxides at the metal surface for high-quality interfaces between the tunnel barrier and metal elec…
The dielectric environment of atomically-thin monolayer (ML) of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides affects both the electronic band gap and the excitonic binding energy in the ML. We investigate the effect of the environment on the in-plane magnetic field brightening of neutral and charged dark exciton emissions in the WSe$_2$ ML. The monolayers placed in three dielectric environments are studied, in particular, the ML encapsulated in hexagonal BN (hBN) flakes, the ML deposited on a hBN layer, and the ML embedded between the hBN flake and SiO$_2$/Si substrate. We observe that the …
The combination of high-quality Al2O3 dielectric and thiol chemistry passivation can effectively reduce the density of interface traps and Coulomb impurities of WS2, leading to a significant improvement of the mobility and a transition of the charge transport from the insulating to the metallic regime. A record high mobility of 83 cm2/Vs (337 cm2/Vs) is reached at room temperature (low temperature) for monolayer WS2. A theoretical model for electron transport is also developed.
We analyze the dielectric-function spectra of low dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) using a fully analytical model of the complex dielectric function that is applicable in fractional dimensional space. We extract the dimensionalities of the $A$ and $B$ excitons as well as their Lorentzian broadening widths by fitting the model to experimental data in the spectral range of photon energies (1.5 - 3 eV). Our results show the significant contribution of the lowest ground exciton state to the dielectric properties of exemplary monolayer materials (MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$ and WSe$_2$). …

In this work, atomically thin interfaces of Ir/Al2O3 heterostructures compatible with micro-optoelectronic technologies are reported. Their structural and optical properties were determined by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques (XRR, XPS, HRTEM, spectroscopic ellipsometry, and UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometry). The XRR and HRTEM analyses reveal a layer-by-layer growth mechanism of Ir in atomic scale heterostructures, which is different from the typical isl…
Ultrathin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) of Mo and W show great potential for digital electronics and optoelectronic applications. Whereas early studies were limited to mechanically exfoliated flakes, the large-area synthesis of 2D TMDCs has now been realized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) based on a sulfurization reaction. Since then, the optoelectronic properties of CVD grown monolayer MoS$_{2}$ have been heavily investigated, but the influence of stoichiometry on the electrical and optical properties has been largely overlooked. Here we systematically vary the stoichiometry of…
We perform first-principles calculations to explore electronic, thermodynamic, and dielectric properties of two-dimensional (2D) layered, alkaline-earth hydroxides Ca(OH)2 and Mg(OH)2. We calculate the lattice parameters, exfoliation energies, and phonon spectra of monolayers and also investigate the thermal properties of these monolayers such as Helmholtz free energy, heat capacity at constant volume, and entropy as a function of temperature. We employ Density Functional Perturbation Theory (DFPT) to calculate the in-plane and out-of-plane static dielectric constant of the bulk and monolayer …
We present first-principles many-body calculations of the dielectric constant, quasiparticle band structure, and optical absorption spectrum of monolayer MoS$_2$ using a supercell approach. As the separation between the periodically repeated layers is increased, the dielectric function of the layer develops a strong $q$ dependence around $q=0$. This implies that denser $k$-point grids are required to converge the band gap and exciton binding energies when large supercells are used. In the limit of infinite layer separation, here obtained using a truncated Coulomb interaction, a $45\times45$ $k…
Using first-principles calculations, we investigate six transition-metal nitride halides (TMNHs): HfNBr, HfNCl, TiNBr, TiNCl, ZrNBr, and ZrNCl as potential van der Waals (vdW) dielectrics for transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) channel transistors. We calculate the exfoliation energies and bulk phonon energies and find that the six TMNHs are exfoliable and thermodynamically stable. We calculate both the optical and static dielectric constants in the in-plane and out-of-plane directions for both monolayer and bulk TMNHs. In monolayers, the out-of-plane static dielectric constant ranges from 5…
High-quality dielectric-semiconductor interfaces are critical for reliable high-performance transistors. We report the in-situ metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of Al$_2$O$_3$ on $β$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ as a potentially better alternative to the most commonly used atomic layer deposition (ALD). The growth of Al$_2$O$_3$ is performed in the same reactor as Ga$_2$O$_3$ using trimethylaluminum and O$_2$ as precursors without breaking the vacuum at a growth temperature of 600 $^0$C. The fast and slow near interface traps at the Al$_2$O$_3$/ $β$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ interface are identified and quantif…
Dielectric Deposition Enhanced Crystallization in Atomic-Layer-Deposited Indium Oxide Transistors Achieving High Gated-Hall Mobility Exceeding 100 cm2/Vs at Room Temperature
The advantage of MoS2, compared with graphene, is the direct growth on various oxide substrates by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) without utilizing catalytic metal substrates, which facilitates practical applications for electronics. The carrier mobility is, however, degraded from the intrinsic limit mainly due to short-range scattering caused by S vacancies formed during CVD growth. If the upper limit for the crystallinity of CVD-MoS2 on oxide substrates is determined by the MoS2/substrate interaction during growth, it will hinder the advantage. In this study, we investigated the interaction…
The combination of h-BN and high-k dielectrics is required for a top gate insulator in miniaturized graphene field-effect transistors because of the low dielectric constant of h-BN. We investigated the deposition of Y2O3 on h-BN using atomic layer deposition. The deposition of Y2O3 on h-BN was confirmed without any buffer layer. An increase in the deposition temperature reduced the surface coverage. The deposition mechanism could be explained by the competition between the desorption and adsorption of the Y precursor on h-BN due to the polarization. Although a full surface coverage was difficu…
Strong enhancement of molecular circular dichroism has the potential to enable efficient asymmetric photolysis, a method of chiral separation that has conventionally been impeded by insufficient yield and low enantiomeric excess. Here, we study experimentally how predicted enhancements in optical chirality density near resonant silicon nanodisks boost circular dichroism. We use fluorescence-detected circular dichroism spectroscopy to measure indirectly the differential absorption of circularly polarized light by a monolayer of optically active molecules functionalized to silicon nanodisk array…
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have recently attracted attention due to their interesting electronic and optical properties. Fabrication of these materials in a reliable and facile method is important for future applications, as are methods to characterize material quality. Here we present the chemical vapor deposition of MoSe2 monolayer and few layer crystals. These results show the practicality of using chemical vapor deposition to reliably fabricate these materials. Low frequency Raman spectra and mapping of shear and layer breathing modes of MoSe2 are presented for the first time.…
Excitons in atomically-thin semiconductors necessarily lie close to a surface, and therefore their properties are expected to be strongly influenced by the surrounding dielectric environment. However, systematic studies exploring this role are challenging, in part because the most readily accessible exciton parameter -- the exciton's optical transition energy -- is largely \textit{un}affected by the surrounding medium. Here we show that the role of the dielectric environment is revealed through its systematic influence on the \textit{size} of the exciton, which can be directly measured via the…
Palladium diselenide (PdSe$_2$), a new type of two-dimensional noble metal dihalides (NMDCs), has received widespread attention for its excellent electrical and optoelectronic properties. Herein, high-quality continuous centimeter-scale PdSe$_2$ films with layers in the range of 3L-15L were grown using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method. The absorption spectra and DFT calculations revealed that the bandgap of the PdSe$_2$ films decreased with increasing number of layers, which is due to PdSe$_2$ enhancement of orbital hybridization. Spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) analysis shows that PdSe2…
Monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS$_2$) is a promising two-dimensional (2D) material for nanoelectronic and optoelectronic applications. The large-area growth of MoS$_2$ has been demonstrated using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) in a wide range of deposition temperatures from 600 °C to 1000 °C. However, a direct comparison of growth parameters and resulting material properties has not been made so far. Here, we present a systematic experimental and theoretical investigation of optical properties of monolayer MoS$_2$ grown at different temperatures. Micro-Raman and photoluminescence (PL) stu…
The development of scalable techniques to make 2D material heterostructures is a major obstacle that needs to be overcome before these materials can be implemented in device technologies industrially. Electrodeposition is an industrially compatible deposition technique that offers unique advantages in scaling 2D heterostructures. In this work, we demonstrate the electrodeposition of atomic layers of WS$_2$ over graphene electrodes using a single source precursor. Using conventional microfabrication techniques, graphene was patterned to create micro-electrodes where WS$_2$ was site-selectively …

Surround gate nanowire field effect transistors (FETs) are then constructed using a novel self-aligned fabrication approach. Individual SG GeNW FETs show improved switching over GeNW FETs with planar gate stacks owing to improved electrostatics. FET devices comprised of m…
In semiconductor physics, many essential optoelectronic material parameters can be experimentally revealed via optical spectroscopy in sufficiently large magnetic fields. For monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenide semiconductors, this field scale is substantial --tens of teslas or more-- due to heavy carrier masses and huge exciton binding energies. Here we report absorption spectroscopy of monolayer MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, MoTe$_2$, and WS$_2$ in very high magnetic fields to 91~T. We follow the diamagnetic shifts and valley Zeeman splittings of not only the exciton's $1s$ ground state but also …
Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy techniques we investigate the incorporation of Manganese (Mn) in monolayer (1L)-MoS$_2$ grown on sapphire substrates by microcavity based chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. These layers are coated with different amount of Mn by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique and temperature dependent photo-luminescence (PL) spectroscopic study has helped us in understanding how such deposition affects the dynamics of excitonic recombination in this system. The study further reveals two distinctly di…
