We implement a minimal linear seesaw model (LSM) for addressing the Quasi-Dirac (QD) behaviour of heavy neutrinos, focusing on the mass regime of $M_{N} \lesssim M_{W}$. Here we show that for relatively low neutrino masses, covering the few GeV range, the same-sign to opposite-sign dilepton ratio, $R_{\ell \ell}$, can be anywhere between 0 and 1, thus signaling a Quasi-Dirac regime. Particular values of $R_{\ell \ell}$ are controlled by the width of the QD neutrino and its mass splitting, the latter being equal to the light-neutrino mass $m_ν$ in the LSM scenario. The current upper bound on $m_{ν_{1}}$ together with the projected sensitivities of current and future $|U_{N \ell}|^{2}$ experimental measurements, set stringent constraints on our low-scale QD mass regime. Some experimental prospects of testing the model by LHC displaced vertex searches are also discussed.
We discuss the contribution of right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) to the effective neutrino mass of the neutrinoless double beta decay within the minimal type-I seesaw model using the intrinsic seesaw relation of neutrino mass and mixing parameters and the relative mass dependence of the nuclear matrix elements. In the viable parameter space, we find the possibilities of both the enhancement and cancellation to the effective neutrino mass from RHNs. The bounds on the parameter space of the RHNs can be determined with the effective neutrino mass extracted from neutrinoless double beta decay experime…
One of the main purposes of SHiP experiment is to shed light on neutrino mass generation mechanisms like the so-called seesaw. We consider a minimal type-I seesaw neutrino mass mechanism model with two heavy neutral leptons (right-handed or sterile neutrinos) with arbitrary masses. Extremely high active-sterile mixing angle requires a correlation between the phases of the Dirac neutrino couplings. Actual experimental limits on the half-life of neutrinoless double beta decay $0νββ$-rate on the active-sterile mixing angle are not significative for SHiP.
We show that in TeV-scale left-right (L-R) symmetric seesaw models, there are new dominant contributions to the collider signals of heavy Majorana neutrinos arising from the heavy-light neutrino mixing, which directly probe the seesaw matrix in a certain class of models. We propose a way to distinguish this contribution from the widely discussed one that only probes the Majorana nature of the heavy right-handed neutrinos, by analyzing some simple kinematical variables. We find that in this class of L-R seesaw models the existing LHC data already yield slightly stronger constraints on the heavy…
In the inverse seesaw extension of the standard model, supersymmetric or non-supersymmetric, while the light left-handed neutrinos are Majorana, the heavy right-handed neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac fermions. We show how one of these latter category of particles can contribute quite significantly to neutrinoless double beta decay. The neutrino virtuality momentum is found to play a crucial role in the non-standard contributions leading to the prediction of the pseudo-Dirac fermion mass in the range of $120\, {MeV}-500\, {MeV}$. When the Dirac neutrino mass matrix in the inverse seesaw formula is s…
The historical discovery of neutrino oscillations using solar and atmospheric neutrinos, and subsequent accelerator and reactor studies, has brought neutrino physics to the precision era. We note that CP effects in oscillation phenomena could be difficult to extract in the presence of unitarity violation. As a result upcoming dedicated leptonic CP violation studies should take into account the non-unitarity of the lepton mixing matrix. Restricting non-unitarity will shed light on the seesaw scale, and thereby guide us towards the new physics responsible for neutrino mass generation.
The gauged $B - L$ symmetry is one of the simplest and well studied extension of standard model. In the conventional case, addition of three singlet right handed neutrinos each transforming as $-1$ under the $B - L$ symmetry renders it anomaly free. It is usually assumed that the $B - L$ symmetry is spontaneously broken by a singlet scalar having two units of $B - L$ charge, resulting in a natural implementation of Majorana seesaw mechanism for neutrinos. However, as we discuss in this proceeding, there is another simple anomaly free solution which leads to Dirac or inverse seesaw masses for n…
We study the collider signature of pseudo-Dirac heavy neutrinos in the inverse seesaw scenario, where the heavy neutrinos with mass at the electroweak scale can have sizable mixings with the Standard Model neutrinos, while providing the tiny light neutrino masses by the inverse seesaw mechanism. Based on a simple, concrete model realizing the inverse seesaw, we fix the model parameters so as to reproduce the neutrino oscillation data and to satisfy other experimental constraints, assuming two typical flavor structures of the model and the different types of hierarchical light neutrino mass spe…
The type-I seesaw Lagrangian yields a non-generic set of active-sterile oscillation parameters - the neutrino mass eigenvalues and the physical elements of the full mixing matrix are entwined. For this reason one is able to, in principle, test the model by performing enough measurements which are sensitive to neutrino masses and lepton mixing. We point out that for light enough right-handed neutrino masses - less than 10 eV - next-generation short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments may be able to unambiguously rule out (or "rule in") the low energy seesaw as the Lagrangian that describe…
In the canonical seesaw mechanism we require the relevant neutrino mass terms to be invariant under the $S^{}_3$ charge-conjugation transformations of left- and right-handed neutrino fields. Then both the Dirac mass matrix $M^{}_{\rm D}$ and the right-handed neutrino mass matrix $M^{}_{\rm R}$ are well constrained, so is the effective light Majorana neutrino mass matrix $M^{}_ν$ via the seesaw formula. We find that these mass matrices can be classified into 22 categories, among which some textures respect the well-known $μ$-$τ$ permutation or reflection symmetry and flavor democracy. It is als…
We investigate non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs) in the triplet seesaw model featuring non-trivial correlations between NSI parameters and neutrino masses and mixing parameters. We show that sizable NSIs can be generated as a consequence of a nearly degenerate neutrino mass spectrum. Thus, these NSIs could lead to quite significant signals of lepton flavor violating decays such as μ^- \to e^- ν_e antiν_μand μ^+ \to e^+ antiν_e ν_μat a future neutrino factory, effects adding to the uncertainty in determination of the Earth matter density profile, as well as characteristic patterns of th…
We consider the seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation in the light of our present knowledge of the neutrino masses and mixing. We analyse the seesaw mechanism constrained by the following assumptions: (1) minimal seesaw with no Higgs triplets, (2) hierarchical Dirac masses of neutrinos, (3) large lepton mixing primarily or solely due to the mixing in the right-handed neutrino sector, and (4) unrelated Dirac and Majorana sectors of neutrino masses. We show that large mixing governing the dominant channel of the atmospheric neutrino oscillations can be naturally obtained and point out tha…
After developing a general criterion for deciding which neutrino mass models belong to the category of inverse seesaw models, we apply it to obtain the Dirac analogue of the canonical Majorana inverse seesaw model. We then generalize the inverse seesaw model and obtain a class of inverse seesaw mechanisms both for Majorana and Dirac neutrinos. We further show that many of the models have double or multiple suppressions coming from tiny symmetry breaking "$μ$-terms". These models can be tested both in colliders and with the observation of lepton flavour violating processes.
The seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation is analysed under the following assumptions: (1) minimal seesaw with no Higgs triplets, (2) hierarchical Dirac masses of neutrinos, (3) large lepton mixing primarily or solely due to the mixing in the right-handed neutrino sector, and (4) unrelated Dirac and Majorana sectors of neutrino masses. It is shown that large mixing governing the dominant channel of the atmospheric neutrino oscillations can be naturally obtained and that this constrained seesaw mechanism favours the normal mass hierarchy for the light neutrinos leading to a small $U_{e3}…
A variation of the original 2006 radiative seesaw model of neutrino mass through dark matter is shown to realize the notion of inverse seesaw naturally. The dark-matter candidate here is the lightest of three real singlet scalars which may also carry flavor.
We study the possibility of connecting leptonic Dirac CP phase $δ$, lightest neutrino mass and baryon asymmetry of the Universe within the framework of a model where both type I and type II seesaw mechanisms contribute to neutrino mass. Type I seesaw gives rise to Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) type neutrino mixing whereas type II seesaw acts as a correction in order to generate non-zero $θ_{13}$. We derive the most general form of type II seesaw mass matrix which can not only give rise to correct neutrino mixing angles but also can generate non-trivial value of $δ$. Considering both the cases where type…
The cosmological matter-antimatter asymmetry can originate from CP-violating interactions of seesaw Majorana neutrinos via leptogenesis in the thermal phase of the early universe. Having the cosmological CP-phase for leptogenesis requires at least two right-handed Majorana neutrinos. Using only the low energy neutrino observables we quantitatively reconstruct a minimal neutrino seesaw. We establish a general criterion for minimal seesaw schemes in which the cosmological CP-phase is {\it completely} reconstructed from the low energy CP-phases measured by neutrino oscillation and neutrinoless do…
The radiative seesaw mechanism proposed recently is minimally extended to include supersymmetry in a specific model. Relevant related issues such as leptogenesis and dark matter are discussed.
We discuss the linkage between dark matter mass in the one-loop radiative seesaw model and the effective neutrino mass for the neutrino less double beta decay. This linkage, which has been already numerically suggested, is confirmed to be a reasonable relationship by deriving analytical expressions for two zero flavor neutrino mass texture.
We discuss neutrino mass and mixing in the framework of the classic seesaw mechanism, involving right-handed neutrinos with large Majorana masses, which provides an appealing way to understand the smallness of neutrino masses. However, with many input parameters, the seesaw mechanism is in general not predictive. We focus on natural implementations of the seesaw mechanism, in which large cancellations do not occur, where one of the right handed neutrinos is dominantly responsible for the atmospheric neutrino mass, while a second right-handed neutrino accounts for the solar neutrino mass, leadi…
We propose two different seesaw models namely, type I and inverse seesaw to realise light Dirac neutrinos within the framework of $A_4$ discrete flavour symmetry. The additional fields and their transformations under the flavour symmetries are chosen in such a way that naturally predicts the hierarchies of different elements of the seesaw mass matrices in these two types of seesaw mechanisms. For generic choices of flavon alignments, both the models predict normal hierarchical light neutrino masses with the atmospheric mixing angle in the lower octant. Apart from predicting interesting correla…
A TeV-scale Higgs doublet with a small mixing to the standard model Higgs doublet can have the sizable Yukawa couplings to several right-handed neutrinos and the standard model lepton doublets. This provides a testable Dirac neutrino mass generation. We further consider a seesaw mechanism involving a $U(1)_{B-L}^{}$ gauge symmetry, which predicts the existence of two right-handed neutrinos and a stable Dirac fermionic dark matter, to simultaneously explain the small mixing between the two Higgs doublets and the generation of the cosmic baryon asymmetry.
We propose a type II seesaw model for light Dirac neutrinos to provide an explanation for the recently reported anomaly in W boson mass by the CDF collaboration with $7σ$ statistical significance. In the minimal model, the required enhancement in W boson mass is obtained at tree level due to the vacuum expectation value of a real scalar triplet, which also plays a role in generating light Dirac neutrino mass. Depending upon the couplings and masses of newly introduced particles, we can have thermally or non-thermally generated relativistic degrees of freedom $ΔN_{\rm eff}$ in the form of right…
So far we have not been able to establish that, as theoretically expected, neutrinos are their own anti-particles. Here we propose a dynamical way to account for the Dirac nature of neutrinos and the smallness of their mass in terms of a new variant of the seesaw paradigm in which the energy scale of neutrino mass generation could be accessible to the current LHC experiments.
If it can be ascertained experimentally that the 3X3 Majorana neutrino mass matrix M_nu has vanishing determinants for one or more of its 2X2 submatrices, it may be interpreted as supporting evidence for the theoretically well-known canonical seesaw mechanism. I show how these two things are connected and offer a realistic M_nu with two zero subdeterminants as an example.
We propose a Standard Model extension with underlying A4 flavour symmetry where small Dirac neutrino masses arise from a Type-II seesaw mechanism. The model predicts the "golden" flavour-dependent bottom-tau mass relation, requires an inverted neutrino mass ordering and non-maximal atmospheric mixing angle. Using the latest neutrino oscillation global fit we derive restrictions on the oscillation parameters, such as a correlation between Dirac CP phase and the lightest neutrino mass.
RGEs for coefficients of dim-5 operators giving rise to neutrino masses in the seesaw mechanism are written down in the SM, 2HDM and MSSM, and solved numerically. RG evolution of these coefficients modifies tree-level seesaw predictions for neutrino masses and mixing angles in SO(10)-type GUT models as strongly as quark Yukawa coupling evolution.
The inverse seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass, i.e. m_nu = (m_D^2/m_N^2)epsilon_L where epsilon_L is small, is discussed in the context of the U(1)_Sigma model. This is a gauge extension of the Standard Model of particle interactions with lepton triplets (Sigma^+,Sigma^),Sigma^-) as (Type III) seesaw anchors for obtaining small Majorana neutrino masses.
In the standard seesaw model, finite corrections to the neutrino mass matrix arise from one-loop self-energy diagrams mediated by heavy neutrinos. We discuss the impact that these corrections may have on the different entries of the tree-level effective neutrino mass matrix, paying special attention to their dependence with the seesaw model parameters. We also briefly comment on the implications these corrections might have on low-energy neutrino observables.
The seesaw mechanism explains the exclusive smallness of neutrino masses by the presence of very heavy Majorana masses and leads to the appearance of Majorana particles and to the direct lepton number violation. The author proposes a seesaw scenario that produces only Dirac neutrinos with the same violation. This scenario appears possible for heavy neutrinos with non-perturbative Higgs boson H couplings. Such a scenario could be accomplished in the model describing the structure of weak mixing matrices for quarks and leptons through the existence of very heavy mirror analogs of Standard Model …

Assuming the solar and atmospheric neutrino deficits to be due to neutrino oscillations, it is shown that the 3X3 mass matrix spanning the e, mu, and tau neutrinos may have already revealed a seesaw mass pattern. Also, this matrix is the natural reduction of a simple 5X5 seesaw mass matrix with one large scale, the 4X4 reduction of which predicts that a fourth neutrino would mix with the e and mu neutrinos in such a way that oscillations between them may occur just within the detection capability of the LSND (Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector) experiment.
In the canonical up-quark seesaw, the ratios of light neutrino masses are more easily predicted than the masses themselves. Under explicitly enumerated neccesary but minimal assumptions, these ratios are obtained, including radiative corrections. The predictions remain uncertain only by the top quark mass and triviality mass limit, and the power law of the seesaw. The tau neutrino is specially affected by the non-linear effect of the heavy top quark mass. The derived ratios have application to solar, atmospheric, and cosmological neutrinos and laboratory neutrino oscillation searches. The sees…
We reformulate the canonical seesaw mechanism in the case that the electroweak gauge symmetry is unbroken, and show that it can "formally" work and allow us to derive an exact seesaw formula for the light and heavy Majorana neutrinos. We elucidate the reason why there is a mismatch between the mass eigenstates of heavy Majorana neutrinos associated with thermal leptogenesis and those associated with the seesaw framework, and establish the exact and explicit relations between the "original" and "derivational" seesaw parameters by using an Euler-like parametrization of the $6\times 6$ active-ste…
In the type-II seesaw mechanism, the neutrino mass generation could be tested experimentally if the Higgs triplet is at the TeV scale and has a small cubic coupling to the standard model Higgs doublet. We show such small triplet-doublet coupling and the cosmic baryon asymmetry can be simultaneously induced by an additional seesaw mechanism involving a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. Meanwhile, three neutral fermions for cancelling the gauge anomalies can form a stable Dirac fermionic dark matter besides an acceptably massless fermion.
We present a minimal inverse seesaw mechanism by resorting to a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. In order to cancel the gauge anomalies, we introduce seven neutral fermions among which four participate in the inverse seesaw to induce two nonzero neutrino mass eigenvalues, two forms a stable Dirac fermion to become a dark matter, while the last one keeps massless but decouples early. In this inverse seesaw, two neutral fermions are the usual right-handed neutrinos while the other two have a small Majorana mass term. An additional seesaw mechanism for generating these small Majorana masses also expl…
The seesaw mechanism can play a key role in the generation of the leptonic mixing in unified models. We consider an unified model with a family symmetry and extended seesaw, and obtain viable fermion masses and mixing (leptonic mixing is close to tri-bi-maximal).
In the framework of type II seesaw mechanism we discuss the number of sterile right-handed Majorana neutrinos being the warm dark matter (WDM). When the type II seesaw mass term $M_ν^{II}$ is far less than the type I seesaw mass term $M_ν^{I}$, only one of three sterile neutrinos may be the WDM particle. On the contrary, the WDM particles may contain all sterile neutrinos. If $M_ν^{II} \sim M_ν^{I}$, the allowed number is not more than $N - 1$ for $N$ sterile neutrinos. It is worthwhile to stress that three different types of neutrino mass spectrum are permitted when $M_ν^{II} \gg M_ν^{I}$ and…
If the canonical seesaw mechanism alone is responsible for neutrino mass, i.e. m_nu = -m_D^2/m_N, it can neither be proved nor disproved at the TeV energy scale. A new verifiable mechanism of neutrino mass is proposed, using the "inverse" seesaw, with new physics at the TeV scale, such that m_nu = m_D^2 epsilon_L/m_N^2, where epsilon_L is a two-loop effect. Dark-matter candidates also appear naturally.
We consider the threshold effect on the renormalization group (RG) evolution of the neutrino masses and mixing angles in TeV scale seesaw models. We obtain the analytic expressions using the factorization method in presence of threshold effects. We also perform numerical study of RG effects in two specific low scale seesaw models following the bottom-up approach and ascertain the role of seesaw thresholds in altering the values of masses and mixing angles during RG evolution.
We suggest a hybrid seesaw model where relatively ``light''right-handed neutrinos give no contribution to the neutrino mass matrix due to a special symmetry. This allows their Yukawa couplings to the standard model particles to be relatively strong, so that the standard model Higgs boson can decay dominantly to a left and a right-handed neutrino, leaving another stable right-handed neutrino as cold dark matter. In our model neutrino masses arise via the type-II seesaw mechanism, the Higgs triplet scalars being also responsible for the generation of the matter-antimatter asymmetry via the lepto…
Renewed interest in GeV-scale sterile neutrinos capable of explaining active neutrino oscillations via see-saw type I mechanism has been expressed in several proposals of direct searches. Given this activity we estimate the minimal values of sterile-active mixing angles provided one, two, or three sterile neutrinos are lighter than D-meson.
We study parameters of an extended standard model. The neutrino sector is enlarged by one or two right-handed singlet fields and the Higgs sector contains one additional doublet. One-loop radiative corrections generate the mass for the light neutrino fields. The numerical analysis is performed varying the masses of heavy neutrinos and of the additional neutral Higgses. The parameters of the neutrino sector, allowing for the seesaw type-I mechanism, are restricted by experimental neutrino oscillation data. Both normal and inverted hierarchies of the light neutrino masses are discussed.
In the minimal seesaw model, we derive required constraints on Dirac neutrino masses inducing maximal CP violation in neutrino oscillations. If the maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing is further assumed, Dirac neutrino masses are uniquely determined to respect $μ$-$τ$ flavored CP symmetry for neutrinos.
If neutrino masses are obtained via the canonical seesaw mechanism, based on an underlying 2X2 mass matrix, unitarity violation of the neutrino mixing matrix is unavoidable, but its effect is extremely small. On the other hand, in the inverse (and linear) seesaw mechanisms, based on an underlying 3X3 mass matrix, it can be significant and possibly observable. This 3X3 matrix is examined in more detail, and a NEW variation (the lopsided seesaw) is proposed which has features of both mechanisms. A concrete example based on U(1)_N is discussed.
We perform a detailed analysis of the one-loop corrections to the light neutrino mass matrix within low scale type I seesaw extensions of the Standard Model and their implications in experimental searches for neutrinoless double beta decay. We show that a sizable contribution to the effective Majorana neutrino mass from the exchange of heavy Majorana neutrinos is always possible, provided one requires a fine-tuned cancellation between the tree-level and one-loop contribution to the light neutrino masses. We quantify the level of fine-tuning as a function of the seesaw parameters and introduce …
We study the RH neutrino properties from the low energy neutrino data in the seesaw mechanism. Reonance behavior is found for the right-handed (RH) mixing angle as a function of light neutrino mass ratios in two favored region of the solar neutrino problem and, at the resonance point, the two corresponding RH Majorana neutrino masses are degenerate. This phenomenon is similar with that in the matter-enhanced conversion of neutrinos. The physical significance it infers for the electron neutrino mass and other neutrino parameters is discussed.
The seesaw model of heavy and light Majorana neutrinos and its low-energy effective theory are studied, when the number of heavy neutrinos is equal to or less than the number of light lepton generations. We establish a general relationship between the high-energy parameters and the low-energy observables involving only the light fields. It is shown how low-energy measurements of the properties of light neutrinos suffice a priori to determine all couplings of the unobserved heavy neutrinos. CP violation is present in low-energy processes if seesaw-model leptogenesis creates the matter-antimatte…
We study the possibility of generating deviations from tri-bimaximal (TBM) neutrino mixing to explain the non-zero reactor mixing angle within the framework of both type I and type II seesaw mechanisms. The type I seesaw term gives rise to the $μ-τ$ symmetric TBM pattern of neutrino mass matrix as predicted by generic flavor symmetry models like $A_4$ whereas the type II seesaw term gives rise to the required deviations from TBM pattern to explain the non-zero $θ_{13}$. Considering extremal values of Majorana CP phases such that the neutrino mass eigenvalues have the structure $(m_1, -m_2, m_3…
In minimal trinification models light neutrino masses can be generated via a radiative see-saw mechanism, where the masses of the right-handed neutrinos originate from loops involving Higgs and fermion fields at the unification scale. This mechanism is absent in models aiming at solving or ameliorating the hierarchy problem, such as low-energy supersymmetry, since the large seesaw-scale disappears. In this case, neutrino masses need to be generated via a TeV-scale mechanism. In this paper, we investigate an inverse seesaw mechanism and discuss some phenomenological consequences.
If a family symmetry exists so that all three neutrinos have equal Majorana masses (via the seesaw mechanism), then the breaking of this symmetry from charged-lepton masses (via two-loop double $W$ exchange) implies $Δm$ less than about $10^{-9}m_0$. With the common mass $m_0 \sim$ eV for hot dark matter, $Δm^2 \sim 10^{-10}$ eV$^2$ is natural for vacuum solar neutrino oscillations.
Neutrino flavor mixing is explained within the recently proposed low-scale minimal linear seesaw model of neutrino mass generation, a variant of the standard linear seesaw led by a Dirac pair of extra sterile neutrinos which is odd under a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry and has a mass at or below the GeV scale. The tri-bimaximal mixing and its deviations are derived straightforwardly on the basis of the symmetry between $μ$ and $τ$ flavors, without introducing non-abelian discrete flavor symmetries in the first place.
In the standard seesaw model, finite corrections to the neutrino mass matrix arise from one-loop self-energy diagrams mediated by a heavy neutrino. We discuss the impact that these corrections may have on the different low-energy neutrino observables paying special attention to their dependence with the seesaw model parameters. It is shown that sizable deviations from the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern can be obtained when these corrections are taken into account.
In the context of $SO(10) \to SU(5) \times U(1)_χ$, it is shown how seesaw Dirac neutrinos may be obtained. In this framework, $U(1)$ lepton number is conserved, with which self-interaction dark matter with a light scalar dilepton mediator may be implemented. In addition, $U(1)$ baryon number may be broken to $(-1)^{3B}$, thereby generating a baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The axionic solution to the strong $CP$ problem may also be incorporated.
The seesaw mechanism for three neutrinos is discussed, clarifying the situation where the seesaw texture results in three approximately zero mass eigenvalues. The true underlying mechanism is shown to be just the $inverse$ (or $linear$) seesaw, which explains why there could be large mixing. However, these zeroes cannot occur naturally, unless there is a conserved symmetry, i.e. lepton number $L$, either global or gauged, which is softly or spontaneously broken at the TeV scale. We discuss in particular the case where the three heavy singlet neutrinos have $L=3,-2,-1$.
We consider different extensions of the standard model which can give rise to the small active neutrino masses through seesaw mechanisms, and their mixing. These tiny neutrino masses are generated at some high energy scale by the heavy seesaw fields which then get sequentially decoupled to give an effective dimension-5 operator. The renormalization group evolution of the masses and the mixing parameters of the three active neutrinos in the high energy as well as the low energy effective theory is reviewed in this article.
The simplest possibility to generate small Majorana neutrino masses is the seesaw mechanism. However, the smallness of the observed neutrino masses can also be understood, if neutrino masses are generated by higher-dimensional operators and/or at higher loop level. In this talk recent work on systematic classifications of higher-dimensional and radiative neutrino mass models is summarized. Two particular classes of special genuine loop diagrams, i.e. diagrams which can lead to genuine neutrino mass models only under some specific, well-defined conditions, are also discussed.
A simplified but very instructive analysis of the seesaw mechanism is here performed. Assuming a nearly diagonal Dirac neutrino mass matrix, we study the forms of the Majorana mass matrix of right-handed neutrinos, which reproduce the effective mass matrix of left-handed neutrinos. As a further step, the important effect of a non diagonal Dirac neutrino mass matrix is explored. The corresponding implications for the baryogenesis via leptogenesis and for the neutrinoless double beta decay are reviewed. We propose two distinct models where the baryon asymmetry is enhanced.
