Most studies for postselected weak measurement in optomechanical system focus on using a single photon as a measured system. However, we find that using weak coherent light instead of a single photon can also amplify the mirror's position displacement of one photon. In the WVA regime (Weak Value Amplification regime), the weak value of one photon can lie outside the eigenvalue spectrum, proportional to the difference of the mirror's position displacement between the successful and failed postselection and its successful postselection probability is dependent of the mean photon number of the coherent light and improved by adjusting it accordingly. Outside the WVA regime, the amplification limit can reach the level of the vacuum fluctuations, and when the mean photon number and the optomechanical coupling parameter are selected appropriately, its successful postselection probability becomes higher, which is beneficial to observe the maximum amplification value under the current experimental conditions. This result breaks the constraint that it is difficult to detect outside the WVA regime. This opens up a new regime for the study of a single photon nonlinearity in optomechanical system.
We study the optomechanically induced amplification and perfect transparency in a double-cavity optomechanical system. We find if two control lasers with appropriate amplitudes and detunings are applied to drive the system, the phenomenon of optomechanically induced amplification for a probe laser can occur. In addition, perfect optomechanically induced transparency phenomenon, which is robust to mechanical dissipation, can be realized by the same type of drive. These results are very important for signal amplification, light storage, fast light and slow light in the quantum information proces…
We study the directional amplification of an optical probe field in a three-mode optomechanical system, where the mechanical resonator interacts with two linearly-coupled optical cavities and the cavities are driven by strong optical pump fields. The optical probe field is injected into one of the cavity modes, and at the same time, the mechanical resonator is subject to a mechanical drive with the driving frequency equal to the frequency difference between the optical probe and pump fields. We show that the transmission of the probe field can be amplified in one direction and de-amplified in …
In this article we present an experimental proposal for the estimation of an optomechanical parameter in the presence of noise. The estimation is based on the technique of weak value amplification which can enlarge the radiation pressure effect of a single photon on a mechanical oscillator. In our setup we show that the weak value amplification technique is preferable for the estimation over a method that relies on a strong measurement with postselection, because the first method does not require a good prior knowledge of the parameter we wish to estimate, while both strategies reach the same …
It has been predicted and experimentally demonstrated that by injecting squeezed light into an optomechanical device it is possible to enhance the precision of a position measurement. Here, we present a fundamentally different approach where the squeezing is created directly inside the cavity by a nonlinear medium. Counterintuitively, the enhancement of the signal to noise ratio works by de-amplifying precisely the quadrature that is sensitive to the mechanical motion without losing quantum information. This enhancement works for systems with a weak optomechanical coupling and/or strong mechan…
We propose a scheme to enhance the single- and two-photon blockade effect significantly in a standard optomechanical system (OMS) via optical parametric amplification (OPA). The scheme does not rely on the strong single-photon optomechanical coupling and can eliminate the disadvantages of suppressing multi-photon excitation incompletely. Through analyzing the single-photon blockade (1PB) mechanism and optimizing the system parameters, we obtain a perfect 1PB with a high occupancy probability of single-photon excitation, which means that a high quality and efficient single-photon source can be …
Noise usually has an unwelcome influence on system performance. For instance, noise inevitably affects the low-frequency mechanical freedom in optomechanical experiments. However, we investigate here the beneficial effects of thermal noise on a basic optomechanical system with parametric instability. In a regime near parametric instability, it is found that thermal noise in the mechanical freedom can sustain long-term quasi-coherent oscillations when the system would otherwise remain in the equilibrium state. In an overlapping regime of parametric instability and bistability, intermittent swit…

We study optomechanically-induced transparency (OMIT) in a compound system consisting of an optical cavity and an acoustic molecule, which features not only double OMIT peaks but also light advance. We find that by selectively driving one of the acoustic modes, OMIT peaks can be amplified either symmetrically or asymmetrically, accompanied by either significantly enhanced advance or a transition from advance to delay of the signal light. The sensitive impacts of the mechanical driving fields on the optical properties, including the signal transition and its high-order sidebands, are also revea…
Weak measurement with a coherent state pointer and in combination with an orthogonal postselection can lead to a surprising amplification effect, and we give a fire-new physical mechanism about the weak measurement in order to understand this effect. Moreover, this physical mechanism is a general result and based on it, we present a scheme of optomechanical system to implement weak measurement amplification on an orthogonal postselection.
We study an optomechanical transistor, where an input field can be transferred and amplified unidirectionally in a cyclic three-mode optomechanical system. In this system, the mechanical resonator is coupled simultaneously to two cavity modes. We show that it only requires a finite mechanical gain to achieve the nonreciprocal amplification. Here the nonreciprocity is caused by the phase difference between the linearized optomechanical couplings that breaks the time-reversal symmetry of this system. The amplification arises from the mechanical gain, which provides an effective phonon bath that …
We propose a three-mode optomechanical system to realize optical nonreciprocal transmission with unidirectional amplification, where the system consists of two coupled cavities and one mechanical resonator which interacts with only one of the cavities. Additionally, the optical gain is introduced into the optomechanical cavity. It is found that for a strong optical input, the optical transmission coefficient can be greatly amplified in a particular direction and suppressed in the opposite direction. The expressions of the optimal transmission coefficient and the corresponding isolation ratio a…
We consider an optomechanical cavity with a movable end-mirror as a quantum mechanical oscillator (MO) containing an interacting cigar-shaped Bose-Eisenstein condensate (BEC). It is assumed that both the MO and the BEC interact with the radiation pressure of the cavity field in the red-detuned and weak coupling regimes while the two-body atomic collisions frequency of the BEC and the mechanical spring coefficient of the MO are coherently modulated. By analyzing the scattering matrix we find that a frequency-dependent squeezing is induced to the three subsystems only due to the coherent modulat…
An experimental proposal is presented in which dark port post-selection together with weak measurements are used to enlarge the radiation pressure effect of a single photon on a mechanical oscillator placed in the middle of a Fabry-Perot cavity and initialized in the ground state. By preparing and post-selecting the photon (the system) in two quasi orthogonal states, the weak value of the radiation force operator can lie outside the eigenvalue spectrum, producing a large shift on the wave function of the mechanical oscillator (the measuring device) in the position representation. Consequently,…
The investigation of the ultimate limits imposed by quantum mechanics on amplification represents an important topic both on a fundamental level and from the perspective of potential applications. We propose here a novel setup for an optomechanical amplifier, constituted by a mechanical resonator dispersively coupled to an optomechanical cavity asymmetrically driven around both mechanical sidebands. We show that, on general grounds, the present amplifier operates in a novel regime-- which we here call phase-mixing amplification. At the same time, for a suitable choice of parameters, the amplif…
High-gain amplifiers of electromagnetic signals operating near the quantum limit are crucial for quantum information systems and ultrasensitive quantum measurements. However, the existing techniques have a limited gain-bandwidth product and only operate with weak input signals. Here we demonstrate a two-port optomechanical scheme for amplification and routing of microwave signals, a system that simultaneously performs high-gain amplification and frequency conversion in the quantum regime. Our amplifier, implemented in a two-cavity microwave optomechanical device, shows 41 dB of gain and has a …
Cavity optomechanical phenomena, such as cooling, amplification or optomechanically induced transparency, emerge due to a strong imbalance in the dissipation rates of the parametrically coupled electromagnetic and mechanical resonators. Here we analyze the reversed dissipation regime where the mechanical energy relaxation rate exceeds the energy decay rate of the electromagnetic cavity. We demonstrate that this regime allows for mechanically-induced amplification (or cooling) of the electromagnetic mode. Gain, bandwidth, and added noise of this electromagnetic amplifier are derived and compare…
Optical interferometry is by far the most sensitive displacement measurement technique available, with sensitivities at the 10^-20 m/rootHz level in the large-scale gravitational-wave interferometers currently in operation. Second generation interferometers will experience a 10-fold improvement in sensitivity and be mainly limited by quantum noise, close to the Standard Quantum Limit (SQL), once considered as the ultimate displacement sensitivity achievable by interferometry. In this Letter, we experimentally demonstrate one of the techniques envisioned to go beyond the SQL: amplification of a…
Directional transmission or amplification of microwave signals is indispensable in various applications involving sensitive measurements. In this work we show in experiment how to use a generic cavity optomechanical setup to non-reciprocally amplify microwave signals above 3 GHz in one direction by 9 decibels, and simultaneously attenuate the transmission in the opposite direction by 21 decibels. We use a device including two on-chip superconducting resonators and two metallic drumhead mechanical oscillators. Application of four microwave pump tone frequencies allows for designing constructive…
It is well-known that some nonlinear phenomena such as strong photon blockade are hard to be observed in optomechanical system with current experimental technology. Here, we present a coherent feedback control strategy in which a linear cavity is coherently controlled by an optomechanical controller in a feedback manner. The coherent feedback loop transfers and enhances quantum nonlinearity from the controller to the controlled cavity, which makes it possible to observe strong nonlinear effects in either linear cavity or optomechanical cavity. More interestingly, we find that the strong photon…
Coherent quantum noise cancellation (CQNC) can be used in optomechanical sensors to surpass the standard quantum limit (SQL). In this paper, we investigate an optomechanical force sensor that uses the CQNC strategy by cascading the optomechanical system with an all-optical effective negative mass oscillator. Specifically, we analyze matching conditions, losses and compare the two possible arrangements in which either the optomechanical or the negative mass system couples first to light. While both of these orderings yield a sub-SQL performance, we find that placing the effective negative mass …
A theoretical scheme for the realization of the sphere-coherent motional states in an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a two-level atom is proposed. To this end, the analogy between an atom-assisted optomechanical cavity and a laser-driven trapped-ion system is used. This analogy provides us with a theoretical tool to show how sphere-coherent states can be generated for the motional degree of freedom of the macroscopic mechanical oscillator from atom-field-mirror interactions in a multi-mode optomechanical cavity. Some nonclassical properties of the generated state of the mechanical os…
In most optomechanical systems a movable mirror is a part of an optical cavity, and its oscillation modulates either the resonance frequency of the cavity, or its coupling to the environment. There exists the third option -- which we call a "coherent coupling" -- when the mechanical oscillation couples several non-degenerate optical modes supported by the cavity. Identifying the nature of the coupling can be an important step in designing the setup for a specific application. In order to unambiguously distinguish between different optomechanical couplings, we develop a general framework based …
We investigate the nonlinear interaction between a squeezed cavity mode and a mechanical mode in an optomechanical system (OMS) that allows us to selectively obtain either a radiation-pressure coupling or a parametric-amplification process. The squeezing of the cavity mode can enhance the interaction strength into the single-photon strong-coupling regime, even when the OMS is originally in the weak-coupling regime. Moreover, the noise of the squeezed mode can be suppressed completely by introducing a broadband-squeezed vacuum that is phase-matched with the parametric amplification that squeeze…
Connecting superconducting qubits to optical fiber necessitates the conversion of microwave photons to optical photons. Modern experimental demonstrations exhibit strong coupling between a microwave resonator and an optical cavity mediated through phononic modes in a mechanical oscillator. This paradigmatic transduction experiment is bounded by a theoretical efficiency with constant driving amplitudes on the electromagnetic resonators. By adding a parametric drive to the microwave resonator and optical cavity we discover the converted signal through the quantum transducer is amplified, while m…
We study the quantum interference between different weak signals in a three-port optomechanical system, which is achieved by coupling three cavity modes to the same mechanical mode. If one cavity serves as a control port and is perturbed continually by a control signal, nonreciprocal quantum interference can be observed when another signal is injected upon different target ports. In particular, we exhibit frequency-independent perfect blockade induced by the completely destructive interference over the full frequency domain. Moreover, coherent photon routing can be realized by perturbing all p…
Weak measurement [1,19] combined with quantum delayed-choice experiment that use quantum beam splitter instead of the beam splitter give rise to a surprising amplification effect, i.e., counterintuitive negative amplification effect. We show that this effect is caused by the wave and particle behaviours of the system to be and can't be explained by a semiclassical wave theory, due to the entanglement of the system and the ancilla in quantum beam splitter. The amplification mechanism about wave-particle duality in quantum mechanics lead us to a scheme for implementation of weak measurement in o…
We investigate the routing of a single-photon in a modulated cavity optomechanical system, in which the cavity is driven by a strong coupling field, and the mechanical resonator (MR) is modulated with a weak coherent field. We show that, when there is no a weak coherent field modulating the MR, the system cannot act as a single-photon router, since the signal will be completely covered by the quantum and thermal noises. By introducing the weak coherent field, we can achieve the routing of the single-photon by adjusting the frequency of the weak coherent field, and the system can be immune to t…
Ground-state cooling of mechanical motion by coupling to a driven optical cavity has been demonstrated in various optomechanical systems. In our work, we provide a so far missing thermodynamic performance analysis of optomechanical sideband cooling in terms of a heat valve. As performance quantifiers, we examine not only the lowest reachable effective temperature (phonon number) but also the evacuated-heat flow as an equivalent to the cooling power of a standard refrigerator, as well as appropriate thermodynamic efficiencies, which all can be experimentally inferred from measurements of the ca…
In the few-photon regime, we theoretically propose a feasible scheme to realize strong coupling optomechanical cycle in a three-mode optomechanical circulatory system (OMCS) comprising of cross-Kerr (CK) type and linear coupling between the corresponding two bosonic modes, meanwhile, where one of the bosonic modes is strongly coherently driven and the rest are weakly driven. A Langevin equation for strong three-mode OMCS is derived by adjusting the parameters of the appropriate strong coherent laser. We show that this strong coupling of optomechanical originates from the strong coherently driv…
We analyze the optomechanics of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate interacting with the optical lattice inside a laser-pumped optical cavity and subject to a uniform bias force such as gravity. An atomic wave packet in a tilted lattice undergoes Bloch oscillations; in a cavity the backaction of the atoms on the light leads to a time-dependent modulation of the intracavity lattice at the Bloch frequency. When the Bloch frequency is on the order of the cavity damping rate we find transport of the atoms either up or down the lattice. The transport dynamics can be interpreted as a manifestation of…
We theoretically study the transparency and amplification of a weak probe field applied to the cavity in hy- brid systems formed by a driven superconducting circuit QED system and a mechanical resonator, or a driven optomechanical system and a superconducting qubit. We find that both the mechanical resonator and the su- perconducting qubit can result in the transparency to a weak probe field in such hybrid systems when a strong driving field is applied to the cavity. We also find that the weak probe field can be amplified in some parameter regimes. We further study the statistical properties o…
We propose and analyse a feasible experimental scheme for a quantum force sensor based on the elimination of back-action noise through coherent quantum noise cancellation (CQNC) in a hybrid atom-cavity optomechanical setup assisted with squeezed vacuum injection. The force detector, which allows for a continuous, broad-band detection of weak forces well below the standard quantum limit (SQL), is formed by a single optical cavity simultaneously coupled to a mechanical oscillator and to an ensemble of ultracold atoms. The latter acts as a negative-mass oscillator so that atomic noise cancels exa…
We propose a method to decouple the nanomechanical resonator in optomechanical systems from the environmental noise by introducing a chaotic coherent feedback loop. We find that the chaotic controller in the feedback loop can modulate the dynamics of the controlled optomechanical system and induce a broadband response of the mechanical mode. This broadband response of the mechanical mode will cut off the coupling between the mechanical mode and the environment and thus suppress the environmental noise of the mechanical modes. As an application, we use the protected optomechanical system to act…
We study the nonreciprocal transmission of a single-photon in a cavity optomechanical system, in which the cavity supports a clockwise and a counter-clockwise circulating optical modes, the mechanical resonator (MR) is excited by a weak coherent driving, and the signal photon is made up of a sequence of pulses with exactly one photon per pulse. We find that, if the input state is a single-photon state, it is insufficient to study the nonreciprocity only from the perspective of the transmission spectrums, since the frequencies where the nonreciprocity happens are far away from the peak frequenc…
Using a flowchart representation of quantum optomechanical dynamics, we design coherent quantum-noise-cancellation schemes that can eliminate the back-action noise induced by radiation pressure at all frequencies and thus overcome the standard quantum limit of force sensing. The proposed schemes can be regarded as novel examples of coherent feedforward quantum control.
The simultaneous ground-state refrigeration of multiple vibrational modes is a prerequisite for observing significant quantum effects of multiple-vibration systems. Here we propose how to realize a large amplification in the net-refrigeration rates based on cavity optomechanics and to largely improve the cooling performance of multivibration modes beyond the resolved-sideband regime. By employing an auxiliary mechanical coupling (AMC) between two mechanical vibrations, the dark mode, which is induced by the coupling of these vibrational modes to a common optical mode and cuts off cooling chann…
We present a scheme for achieving amplification of the displacement of the mirror in optomechanical cavity using single-photon postselection where the mirror is initially prepared in squeezed coherent state. The amplification depends on the enhanced fluctuations of the squeezed coherent state, and it is is caused by the noncommutativity of quantum mechanics relying on the squeezed coherent state, which can not be explained by the standard weak measurement [1,25].
Cooling to the motional ground state is an important first step in the preparation of nonclassical states of mesoscopic mechanical oscillators. Light-mediated coupling to a remote atomic ensemble has been proposed as a method to reach the ground state for low frequency oscillators. The ground state can also be reached using optical measurement followed by feedback control. Here we investigate the possibility of enhanced cooling by combining these two approaches. The combination, in general, outperforms either individual technique, though atomic ensemble-based cooling and feedback cooling each …
In this paper, we propose an experimentally viable scheme to enhance the sensitivity of force detection in a hybrid optomechanical setup assisted by squeezed vacuum injection, beyond the standard quantum limit (SQL). The scheme is based on a combination of the coherent quantum noise cancellation (CQNC) strategy with a variational homodyne detection of the cavity output spectrum in which the phase of the local oscillator is optimized. In CQNC, realizing a negative-mass oscillator in the system leads to exact cancellation of the backaction noise from the mechanics due to destructive quantum inte…
The coherent quantum noise cancellation (CQNC) strategy has been performed in the single-mode optomechanical systems to promote an ultra-sensitive metrology protocol to break the standard quantum limit. The key idea of CQNC is that the backaction noises arising from radiation pressure and driving can be offset by coupling the optical mode to a near-resonant ancillary mode. In this work, a continuous weak-force sensing under CQNC is developed in a double-mode optomechanical system consisted of two optical modes with distinct frequencies and a mechanical mode. In particular, under the asymmetric…
A universal deterministic noiseless quantum amplifier has been shown to be impossible. However, probabilistic noiseless amplification of a certain set of states is physically permissible. Regarding quantum state amplification as quantum state transformation, we show that deterministic noiseless amplification of coherent states chosen from a proper set is possible. The relation between input coherent states and gain of amplification for deterministic noiseless amplification is thus derived. Besides, the potential applications of amplification of coherent states in quantum key distribution (QKD)…
We study the position estimation of a mechanical oscillator undergoing both detuned parametric amplification and continuous quantum measurement. This model, which can be utilised to produce squeezed states, is applied to a general optoelectromechanical system. Using a stochastic master equation formalism, we derive general formulae for the reduction in position uncertainty of one quadrature of motion. The filter for extracting the optimal position estimate from the measurement record is derived. We also find that since this scheme does not work far into the back-action dominated regime, implem…
We systematically study the influence of simultaneously modulating the input laser intensity and quantum dot (QD) resonance frequecy on the mean-field dynamics, fluctuation energy transfer and entanglement in a optomechanical semi-conductor resonator embedded with a QD. We show that the modulation and the hybrid system can be engineered to attain the desired mean-field values, control the fluctuation energy transfer and the entanglement between the various degrees of freedom. A remarkably high degree of entanglement can be achieved by modulating only the QD frequency. The interplay between the…
Nonreciprocal transmission of optical or microwave signals is indispensable in various applications involving sensitive measurements. In this paper, we study optomechanically induced directional amplification and isolation in a generic setup including two cavities and two mechanical oscillators by exclusively using blue-sideband drive tones. The input and output ports defined by the two cavity modes are coupled through coherent and dissipative paths mediated by the two mechanical resonators, respectively. By choosing appropriate transfer phases and strengths of the driving fields, either a dir…
We explore theoretically the optical response properties in an optomechanical system under electromagneti- cally induced transparency condition but with the mechanical resonator being driven by an additional coherent field. In this configuration, more complex quantum coherent and interference phenomena occur. In partic- ular, we find that the probe transmission spectra depend on the total phase of the applied fields. Our study also provides an efficient way to control propagation of amplification.
We propose novel coherent-state phase concentration by probabilistic measurement-induced ampli- fication. The amplification scheme uses novel architecture, thermal noise addition (instead of single photon addition) followed by feasible multiple photon subtraction using realistic photon-number resolving detector. It allows to substantially amplify weak coherent states and simultaneously reduce their phase uncertainty, contrary to the deterministic amplifier.
Quantum control techniques applied at macroscopic scales provide us with opportunities in fundamental physics and practical applications. Among them, measurement-based feedback allows efficient control of optomechanical systems and quantum-enhanced sensing. In this paper, we propose a near-resonant narrow-band force sensor with extremely low optically added noise in an optomechanical system subject to a feedback-controlled in-loop light. The membrane's intrinsic motion consisting of zero-point motion and thermal motion is affected by the added noise of measurement due to the backaction noise a…
