We propose an inverse seesaw scenario under hidden $U(1)$ gauge symmetry, having rather natural hierarchies among neutral fermion mass scales. The hierarchies are derived from theory and experimental constraints. The theory requires Majorana exotic masses have to be induced at one-loop level. The experimental side requests that the Dirac mass terms has to be highly suppressed to satisfy the constraints from the lepton flavor violations(LFVs) such as $μ\to eγ$. In order to induce such a small Majorana exotic masses we introduce exotic fermions and bosons that also provide us additional intriguing phenomenologies such as muon anomalous magnetic moment, dark matter candidate as well as LFVs and deviations in leptonic $Z$ decays. We analyze these phenomenologies including neutrino oscillation data numerically, and show allowed region. Finally, we discuss the DM candidate in both the cases of fermion and scalar boson, where we focus on rather lighter range that is equal or less than 10 GeV. The dominant contributions originate from interactions of hidden gauge sector, and we show allowed ranges for both cases.
We study the possibility that the baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated in a minimal seesaw scenario where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos with degenerate masses are added to the standard model particle content. In the usual framework of thermal leptogenesis, a nonzero $CP$ asymmetry can be obtained through the mass splitting induced by the running of the heavy Majorana neutrino masses from their degeneracy scale down to the seesaw scale. Although, in the light of the present neutrino oscillation data, the produced baryon asymmetry turns out to be smaller than the experimental valu…
Understanding small neutrino masses in type II seesaw models with TeV scale SM triplet Higgs bosons requires that its coupling with the standard model Higgs doublet H be dialed down to be order eV to KeV, which is a fine-tuning by a factor of $10^{-11}-10^{-8}$ with respect to the weak scale. We present a SUSY extension of the type II seesaw model where this dimensionful small coupling is radiatively induced, thus making its smallness natural. This model has an exotic vector-like quark doublet which contains a quark X with electric charge 5/3 and a top partner t'. We discuss in details the phe…
We study a $μ- τ$ reflection symmetry in neutrino sector realized at the GUT scale in the context of the seesaw model. In our scenario, the exact $μ- τ$ reflection symmetry realized in the basis where the charged lepton and heavy Majorana mass matrices are diagonal, leads to vanishing lepton asymmetries. We find that, in the minimal supersymmetry extension of the seesaw model with appropriate values of $\tanβ$, the renormalization group (RG) evolution from the GUT scale to seesaw scale can induce a successful leptogenesis. It is shown that the right amount of the baryon asymmetries $η_B$ can b…
We consider a $μ-τ$ symmetry in neutrino sectors realized at GUT scale in the context of a seesaw model. In our scenario, the exact $μ-τ$ symmetry realized in the basis where the charged lepton and heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrices are diagonal leads to vanishing lepton asymmetries. We find that, in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the seesaw model with large $\tanβ$, the renormalization group (RG) evolution from GUT scale to seesaw scale can induce a successful leptogenesis even without introducing any symmetry breaking terms by hand, whereas such RG effects lead to tiny deviations…
In light of recent analyses that have shown that nontrivial hidden-sector dynamics in models of supersymmetry breaking can lead to a significant impact on the predicted low-energy supersymmetric spectrum, we extend these studies to consider hidden-sector effects in extensions of the MSSM to include a seesaw model for neutrino masses. A dynamical hidden sector in an interval of mass scales below the seesaw scale would yield renormalization-group running involving both the anomalous dimension from the hidden sector and the seesaw-extended MSSM renormalization group equations (RGEs). These effect…
We investigate a model based on hidden $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry in which neutrino mass is induced at one-loop level by effects of interactions among particles in hidden sector and the Standard Model leptons. Neutrino mass generation is also associated with $U(1)_X$ breaking scale which is taken to be low to suppress neutrino mass. Then we formulate neutrino mass matrix, lepton flavor violating processes and muon $g-2$ which are induced via interactions among Standard Model leptons and particles in $U(1)_X$ hidden sector that can be sizable in our scenario. Carrying our numerical analysis, we sh…
We propose a seesaw model with a hidden gauge symmetry $SU(2)_H \times U(1)_X$ where two types of standard model singlet fermions in realizing a seesaw mechanism are organized into $SU(2)_H$ doublet. Then we formulate scalar and gauge sector, neutrino mass matrix and lepton flavor violations. In our gauge sector, $Z$-$Z'$ mixing appears after spontaneous symmetry breaking and we investigate constraint from $ρ$-parameter. In addition we discuss $Z'$ production at the large hadron collider via $Z$-$Z'$ mixing, where $Z'$ tends to dominantly decay into heavy neutrinos.
We propose a natural realization of linear seesaw model with hidden gauge symmetry in which $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermions, one extra Higgs singlet, doublet and quartet scalar are introduced. Small neutrino mass can be realized by two suppression factors that are small vacuum expectation value of quartet scalar and inverse of Dirac mass for triplet. After formulating neutrino mass matrix, we discuss collider phenomenology of the model focusing on signals from exotic charged particles production at the LHC.
When a small vacuum expectation value of Higgs triplet ($v_Δ$) in the type-II seesaw model is required to explain neutrino oscillation data, a fine-tuning issue occurs on the mass-dimension lepton-number-violation (LNV) scalar coupling. Using the scotogenic approach, we investigate how a small LNV term is arisen through a radiative correction when an $Z_2$-odd vector-like lepton ($X$) and an $Z_2$-odd right-handed Majorana lepton ($N$) are introduced to the type-II seesaw model. Due to the dark matter (DM) direct detection constraints, the available DM candidate is the right-handed Majorana pa…
We study the radiative symmetry breaking of B-L in supersymmetric models with inverse seesaw mechanism. We show that for a wide region of parameter space the radiative corrections can drive the squared mass of the extra Higgs boson from positive initial values at the GUT scale to negative values at the TeV scale, leading to the spontaneous breaking of the B-L symmetry. We also emphasize that in this class of models, unlike the supersymmetric B-L models with type I seesaw, the right-handed sneutrino cannot get a non-zero vacuum expectation value. Therefore, B-L can be radiatively broken while R…
We study a radiative seesaw model at one-loop level with a flavor dependent gauge symmetry $U(1)_{μ-τ}$, in which we consider bosonic dark matter. We also analyze the constraints from lepton flavor violations, muon $g-2$, relic density of dark matter, and collider physics, and carry out numerical analysis to search for allowed parameter region which satisfy all the constraints and to investigate some predictions. Furthermore we find that a simple but adhoc hypothesis induces specific two zero texture with inverse mass matrix, which provides us several predictions such as a specific pattern of …
We propose a scenario for realizing inflation in the framework of supersymmetric B-L extension of the Standard Model. We find that one of the associated right-handed sneutrinos (the superpartner of the Standard Model singlet fermion) can provide a new non-trivial inflationary trajectory at tree level (therefore breaking B-L during inflation). As soon as the inflation ends, the right-handed sneutrino falls into the supersymmetric vacuum, with a vanishing vacuum expectation value, so that B-L symmetry is restored. In this class of models, the B-L gauge symmetry will be radiatively broken at a Te…
We examine whether an appreciable value of the lepton flavor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ at the electroweak scale $Λ_{\rm EW}$ can be radiatively generated from $θ_{13} = 0^\circ$ at the GUT scale $Λ_{\rm GUT}$. It is found that the renormalization-group running and seesaw threshold effects may lead to $θ_{13} \sim 5^\circ$ at low energies for two simple large-maximal mixing patterns of the MNS matrix in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. If $θ_{12}$ is sufficiently large at $Λ_{\rm GUT}$, it will be possible to radiatively produce $θ_{13} \sim 5^\circ$ at $Λ_{\rm EW}$ both in the standard m…
We present predictions for CP violating phases of the Type-I seesaw model with four-zero textures on the Dirac mass matrix. For the four-zero textures, the effective low energy Majorana mass matrix is parametrized with seven parameters. They are three mass-dimensional parameters, two angles and two CP violating sources. The number of these parameters is less than that of the general description of the Majorana mass matrix with three neutrino masses, three mixing angles and three CP violating phases. In particular, only two independent CP violating sources give rise to three CP violating phases…
We propose an economical model addressing the generation of the Inverse Seesaw mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a local $U(1)_{B-L}$, with the Majorana masses of the sterile neutrinos radiatively generated from the dark sector. The field content of the Standard Model is extended by neutral scalars and fermionic singlets, and the gauge group is extended with a $U(1)_{B-L}$ and a discrete $\mathbb{Z}_4$ symmetries. Besides dynamically generating the Inverse Seesaw and thus small masses to the active neutrinos, our model offers two possible dark matter candidates, one scalar and one fer…
In the inverse seesaw model (ISS), the smallness of the neutrino masses is related to the smallness of a lepton number violating mass term whilst the seesaw scale is naturally close to the TeV scale, which allows for large effects in lepton flavor and universality violating observables. With the ongoing and planned measurements of the Higgs boson properties at the LHC, we found timely to investigate the possibility of having large lepton flavor violating Higgs decay (LFVHD) rates within the context of the ISS, considering the most generic case where three additional pairs of massive right-hand…
We investigate how the baryon asymmetry of our universe via leptogenesis can be achieved within the framework of the seesaw model with Fritzsch type lepton mass matrices proposed by Fukugita $et. al$. We study the cases with CP-violating phases in charged lepton Yukawa matrix, however, with and without Dirac neutrino Yukawa phases. We consider both flavor independent and flavor dependent leptogenesis, and demonstrate how they lead to different amounts of lepton asymmetries in detail. In particular, it is shown that flavor dependent leptogenesis in this model can be worked out only when the CP …
The standard model does not provide an explanation of the observed alignment of quark flavors i.e. why are the up and down quarks approximately aligned in their weak interactions according to their masses? We suggest a resolution of this puzzle using a combination of left-right and Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry. The quark mixings in this model vanish at the tree level and arise out of one loop radiative corrections which explains their smallness. The lepton mixings on the other hand appear at the tree level and are therefore larger. We show that all fermion masses and mixings can be fitted with a…
In a paper by Asaka, Ishida and Tanaka \cite{hiding}, they proposed a novel possibility (which will be referred to as the AIT ansatz) that, in spite of the Majorana nature of neutrinos, the neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay can be hidden. In the original AIT model, the AIT ansatz is realized in the minimal seesaw model with two right-handed neutrinos which have a hierarchical mass structure: the lighter and heavier right-handed neutrinos are respectively much lighter and heavier than the typical Fermi-momentum scale of nuclei. However, the original AIT model does not accommodate a succes…
We consider the lepton sector of the Standard Model and allow for an arbitrary number of Higgs doublets and, moreover, for the presence of right-handed neutrino singlets which enable the seesaw mechanism. In this framework, we identify and calculate the dominant one-loop radiative corrections to the tree-level mass matrix of the light neutrinos. The interesting feature is that both the tree-level and the one-loop contributions to the light-neutrino mass matrix are quadratic in the Yukawa couplings, with the effect that the one-loop contribution is smaller than the tree-level one mainly because…
In light of the recent observation of the Fermi-LAT 130 GeV gamma-ray line, we suggest a model of scalar dark matter in hidden sector, which can decay into two (hidden) photons. The process is radiatively induced by a GUT scale fermion in the loop, which is charged under a hidden sector U(1), and the kinetic mixing ($\sim εF^{μν}F'_{μν}$) enables us to fit the required decay width for the Fermi-LAT peak. The model does not allow any dangerous decay channels into light standard model particles.
We propose a type of hybrid Seesaw model that combines Type-1 and Type-2 Seesaw mechanism in multiplicative way to generate tree level Majorana neutrino mass and provides a Dark Matter candidate. The model extends the Standard Model by extra gauge symmetry $U(1)_{D}$ and hidden sector consisted of chiral fermions and additional scalar fields. After spontaneous symmetry breaking, light neutrino masses are generated not only by exchange of the new heavy fermions as Type-1 Seesaw, but also by coupling to the naturally small induced vacuum expectation value of new heavy scalar as Type-2 Seesaw. An…
The inverse seesaw mechanism allows the neutrino masses to be generated by new physics at an experimentally accessible scale, even with O(1) Yukawa couplings. In the inverse seesaw scenario, the smallness of neutrino masses is linked to the smallness of a lepton number violating parameter. This parameter may arise radiatively. In this paper, we study the cosmological implications of two contrasting radiative inverse seesaw models, one due to Ma and the other to Law and McDonald. The former features spontaneous, the latter explicit lepton number violation. First, we examine the effect of the le…
We construct a radiative inverse seesaw model with local B-L symmetry, and investigate the flavor structure of the lepton sector and the fermionic Dark Matter. Neutrino masses are radiatively generated through a kind of inverse seesaw framework. The PMNS matrix is derived from each mixing matrix of the neutrino and charged lepton sector with large Dirac CP phase. We show that the annihilation processes via the interactions with Higgses which are independent on the lepton flavor violation, have to be dominant in order to satisfy the observed relic abundance by WMAP. The new interactions with Hi…
Symmetry-based ideas, such as the quark-lepton complementarity (QLC) principle and the tri-bimaximal mixing (TBM) scheme, have been proposed to explain the observed mixing pattern of neutrinos. We argue that such symmetry relations need to be imposed at a high scale $Λ\sim 10^{12}$ GeV characterizing the large masses of right-handed neutrinos required to implement the seesaw mechanism. For nonhierarchical neutrinos, renormalisation group evolution down to a laboratory energy scale $λ\sim 10^3$ GeV tends to radiatively break these symmetries at a significant level and spoil the mixing pattern p…
We study the consequences of assuming that the mass scale $Δ_{odot}$ corresponding to the solar neutrino oscillations and mixing angle $U_{e3}$ corresponding to the electron neutrino oscillation at CHOOZ are radiatively generated through the standard electroweak gauge interactions. All the leptonic mass matrices having zero $Δ_{odot}$ and $U_{e3}$ at a high scale lead to a unique low energy value for the $Δ_{odot}$ which is determined by the (known) size of the radiative corrections, solar and the atmospheric mixing angle and the Majorana mass of the neutrino observed in neutrinoless double be…
We suggest the so-called bosonic seesaw mechanism in the context of a classically conformal $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the Standard Model with two Higgs doublet fields. The $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry is radiatively broken via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism, which also generates the mass terms for the two Higgs doublets through quartic Higgs couplings. Their masses are all positive but, nevertheless, the electroweak symmetry breaking is realized by the bosonic seesaw mechanism. We analyze the renormalization group evolutions for all model couplings, and find that a large hierarchy among the quartic H…
We propose an inverse seesaw model based on hidden global symmetry $U(1)_H$ in which we realize tiny neutrino masses with rather natural manner taking into account relevant experimental bounds. The small Majorana mass for inverse seesaw mechanism is induced via small vacuum expectation value of a triplet scalar field whose Yukawa interactions with standard model fermions are controlled by $U(1)_H$. We discuss the phenomenology of the exotic particles present in the model including the Goldstone boson coming from breaking of the global symmetry, and explore testability at the Large Hadron Colli…
We propose a new type of radiative neutrino model with global hidden $U(1)$ symmetry, in which neutrino masses are induced at the four loop level. Then we discuss the muon anomalous magnetic moment to solve the discrepancy between observation and the standard model prediction, and estimate the relic density of a fermion or boson DM candidate in the model. We also discuss the diphoton resonance $R$ by considering a process $pp \to R \to γγ$ as a possible signal of our model.
The seesaw mechanism provides a simple explanation for the lightness of the known neutrinos. Under the standard assumption of a weak scale Dirac mass and a heavy sterile Majorana scale the neutrino mass is naturally suppressed below the weak scale. However, Nature may employ Dirac and Majorana scales that are much less than typically assumed, possibly even far below the weak scale. In this case the seesaw mechanism alone would not completely explain the lightness of the neutrinos. In this work we consider a warped framework that realizes this possibility by combining naturally suppressed Dirac…
Assuming the canonical seesaw mechanism together with an SO(3) family symmetry for leptons, broken only by the charged-lepton masses, I show that the three neutrinos of Majorana mass $m_0$ are split radiatively in two loops by a maximum finite calculable amount of order $10^{-9} m_0$. This is very suitable for dark matter and vacuum solar neutrino oscillations. I also discuss how atmospheric neutrino oscillations can be incorporated.
We conjecture that all CP violations (both Dirac and Majorana types) arise from a common origin in neutrino seesaw. With this conceptually attractive and simple conjecture, we deduce that mu-tau breaking shares the common origin with all CP violations. We study the common origin of mu-tau and CP breaking in the Dirac mass matrix of seesaw Lagrangian (with right-handed neutrinos being mu-tau blind), which uniquely leads to inverted mass-ordering of light neutrinos. We then predict a very different correlation between the two small mu-tau breaking observables theta_{13}-0 and theta_{23}-45, whic…
We extend the visible content of the standard model (SM) with a hidden sector composed of three right-handed singlet neutrinos and one singlet Higgs. These extra singlets are charged under a new U(1)_X gauge symmetry while the SM particles are not. Two heavy scalar doublets are introduced to play the role of the messengers between the visible and hidden sectors. The neutrinos naturally acquire tiny Dirac masses because the ratio of weak scale over the heavy messenger masses is highly suppressed. Furthermore, the heavy messengers simultaneously generate baryon asymmetry of the universe through …
Recently, conceptually new physics beyond the Standard Model has been proposed by Georgi, where a new physics sector becomes conformal and provides "unparticle" which couples to the Standard Model sector through higher dimensional operators in low energy effective theory. Among several possibilities, we focus on operators involving the (scalar) unparticle, Higgs and the gauge bosons. Once the Higgs develops the vacuum expectation value (VEV), the conformal symmetry is broken and as a result, the mixing between the unparticle and the Higgs boson emerges. In this paper, we consider a natural rea…
Adding a second scalar doublet (eta^+,eta^0) and three neutral singlet fermions N_{1,2,3} to the Standard Model of particle interactions with a new Z_2 symmetry, it has been shown that Re(eta^0) or Im(eta^0) is a good dark-matter candidate and seesaw neutrino masses are generated radiatively. A supersymmetric U(1) gauge extension of this new idea is proposed, which enforces the usual R parity of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and allows this new Z_2 symmetry to emerge as a discrete remnant.
It is now clear that the masses of the neutrino sector are much lighter than those of the other three sectors. There are many attempts to explain the neutrino masses radiatively by means of inert Higgses, which don't have vacuum expectation values. Then one can discuss cold dark matter candidates, because of no needing so heavy particles and having a $Z_2$ parity symmetry corresponding to the R-parity symmetry of the MSSM. The most famous work would be the Zee model. Recently a new type model along this line of thought was proposed by Mr. E. Ma. We paid attention to this idea. We introduce a fl…

We study a scale invariant $SU(2)\times U(1)_Y \times U(1)_s$ model which has only dimensionless couplings. The shadow $U(1)_s$ is hidden, and it interacts with the Standard Model (SM) solely through mixing in the scalar sector and kinetic mixing of the U(1) gauge bosons. The gauge symmetries are broken radiatively by the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. Lifting of the flat direction results in a light shadow Higgs or "scalon", and a heavier scalar which we identify as the SM Higgs boson. The phenomenology of this model is discussed. It is possible that shadow Higgs boson can be discovered in preci…
We propose a radiative seesaw model with a hidden $U(1)$ gauge symmetry. In order to have anomaly cancellations, we need to introduce several new fermions that contribute to muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment $(g-2)_μ$ as well as explain the neutrino oscillation data. We also consider a fermionic dark matter candidate that correlates with $(g-2)_μ$ and neutrino mass matrix at the same time. We show allowed regions in our input parameters satisfying several constraints. Finally, we also briefly discuss the possibility of the resolution of the Hubble tension via neutrino self-interactions med…
It is shown that the specific "charge conjugation" transformation used to define the Majorana fermions in the conventional seesaw mechanism, namely $(ν_{R})^{C}=C\bar{ν_{R}}^{T}$ for a chiral fermion $ν_{R}$ (and similarly for $ν_{L}$), is a hidden symmetry associated with CP symmetry, and thus it formally holds independently of the P- and C-violating terms in the CP invariant Lagrangian and it is in principle applicable to charged leptons and quarks as well. This hidden symmetry, however, is not supported by a consistent unitary operator and thus it leads to mathematical (operatorial) ambigui…
We propose that neutrino masses are "seeded" by a dark sector within the inverse seesaw mechanism. This way we have a new, "hidden", variant of the scotogenic scenario for radiative neutrino masses. We discuss both explicit and dynamical lepton number violation. In addition to invisible Higgs decays with majoron emission, we discuss in detail the pheneomenolgy of dark matter, as well as the novel features associated to charged lepton flavour violation, and neutrino physics.
Neutrino mixing matrix satisfying the current experimental data can be well described by the HPS tri-bimaximal mixing matrix. We propose that its origin can be understood within the seesaw framework by a hidden condition on the mass matrix of heavy right-handed neutrinos under the transformation of the Abelian finite group Z_3 on the flavor basis. Ignoring CP phases, we show that it can lead to the generic form of the effective light neutrino mass matrix from which the HPS mixing matrix appears naturally, as well as an expeimentally allowed non-zero \sinθ_{13}. We show that the model based on …

To generate the minimal neutrino Majorana mass matrix that has a free solar mixing angle and Delta m_sol^2 = 0 it suffices to implement an O(2) symmetry, or one of its subgroups SO(2), Z_N (N>2), or D_N (N>2). This O(2) generalizes the hidden Z_2^s of lepton mixing and leads in addition automatically to mu-tau symmetry. Flavor-democratic perturbations, as expected e.g. from the Planck scale, then result in tri-bimaximal mixing. We present a minimal model with three Higgs doublets implementing a type-I seesaw mechanism with a spontaneous breakdown of the symmetry, leading to large theta_13 and …
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model providing dark matter and a TeV-scale seesaw mechanism that also allows for viable leptogenesis. In addition to the Standard Model degrees of freedom, the model contains a neutrinophilic Higgs doublet, a scalar singlet, and six singlet fermions (including three right-handed Majorana neutrinos) that are charged under a local $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry. We show how the $U(1)^\prime$ charge assignments and the choice of scalar potential can lead to a TeV-scale seesaw mechanism and $\mathcal{O}(1)$ neutrino Yukawa couplings in a straightforwar…
The minimal seesaw extension of the Standard Model requires two electroweak singlet fermions in order to accommodate the neutrino oscillation parameters at tree level. Here we consider a next to minimal extension where light neutrino masses are generated radiatively by two electroweak fermions: one singlet and one triplet under SU(2). These should be odd under a parity symmetry and their mixing gives rise to a stable weakly interactive massive particle dark matter candidate. For mass in the GeV-TeV range, it reproduces the correct relic density, and provides an observable signal in nuclear rec…
We propose a realisation of inverse seesaw model controlled by hidden $U(1)$ gauge symmetry, and discuss the impact of a bosonic dark matter (DM) candidate by imposing a $Z_2$ parity. We present the detail of scalar spectra and apply the Casas-Ibarra parametrisation to fit the neutrino oscillation data. For this model, the allowed region is extracted to explain the observed relic density and the muon $g-2$ discrepancy, satisfying flavor constraints with DM involved. We interpret the DM annihilation into $\bar f f $ including all SM charged fermions and investigate the direct detection to place…
We propose the first viable radiative seesaw model, in which the neutrino masses are induced radiatively via the two-loop Feynman diagram involving Strongly Interacting Massive Particles (SIMP). The stability of SIMP dark matter (DM) is ensured by a $\mathbb{Z}_5$ discrete symmetry, through which the DM annihilation rate is dominated by the $3 \to 2$ self-annihilating processes. The right amount of thermal relic abundance can be obtained with perturbative couplings in the resonant SIMP scenario, while the astrophysical bounds inferred from the Bullet cluster and spherical halo shapes can be sa…
The minimal seesaw extension of the Standard SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) Model requires two electroweak singlet fermions in order to accommodate the neutrino oscillation parameters at tree level. Here we consider a next to minimal extension where light neutrino masses are generated radiatively by two electroweak fermions: one singlet and one triplet under SU(2). These should be odd under a parity symmetry and their mixing gives rise to a stable weakly interactive massive particle (WIMP) dark matter candidate. For mass in the GeV-TeV range, it reproduces the correct relic density, and provides an obse…
Neutrino oscillation data strongly support mu-tau symmetry as a good approximate flavor symmetry of the neutrino sector, which has to appear in any viable theory for neutrino mass-generation. The mu-tau breaking is not only small, but also the source of Dirac CP-violation. We conjecture that both discrete mu-tau and CP symmetries are fundamental symmetries of the seesaw Lagrangian (respected by interaction terms), and they are only softly broken, arising from a common origin via a unique dimension-3 Majorana mass-term of the heavy right-handed neutrinos. From this conceptually attractive and s…
