Neutrino oscillation data strongly support mu-tau symmetry as a good approximate flavor symmetry of the neutrino sector, which has to appear in any viable theory for neutrino mass-generation. The mu-tau breaking is not only small, but also the source of Dirac CP-violation. We conjecture that both discrete mu-tau and CP symmetries are fundamental symmetries of the seesaw Lagrangian (respected by interaction terms), and they are only softly broken, arising from a common origin via a unique dimension-3 Majorana mass-term of the heavy right-handed neutrinos. From this conceptually attractive and simple construction, we can predict the soft mu-tau breaking at low energies, leading to quantitative correlations between the apparently two small deviations θ_{23} - 45^o and θ_{13} - 0^o. This nontrivially connects the on-going measurements of mixing angle θ_{23} with the upcoming experimental probes of θ_{13}. We find that any deviation of θ_{23} - 45^o must put a lower limit on θ_{13}. Furthermore, we deduce the low energy Dirac and Majorana CP violations from a common soft-breaking phase associated with mu-tau breaking in the neutrino seesaw. Finally, from the soft CP breaking in neutrino seesaw we derive the cosmological CP violation for the baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis. We fully reconstruct the leptogenesis CP-asymmetry from the low energy Dirac CP phase and establish a direct link between the cosmological CP-violation and the low energy Jarlskog invariant. We predict new lower and upper bounds on the θ_{13} mixing angle, 1^o < θ_{13} < 6^o. In addition, we reveal a new hidden symmetry that dictates the solar mixing angle θ_12 by its group-parameter, and includes the conventional tri-bimaximal mixing as a special case, allowing deviations from it.
Here we study and compare the sensitivity to the Higgs sector of the SUSY-seesaw models via the LFV tau decays: tau-> 3 mu, tau->K^{+}K^{-}, tau->mu eta and tau-> mu f_{0}. We emphasize that, at present, the two later channels are the most efficient ones to test indirectly the Higgs particles.
Now the bounds on the lepton-flavor violating (LFV) decay modes of tau lepton are being improved by the Belle experiment in the KEK B factory. In this paper the LFV decay of tau lepton is discussed in the supersymmetric seesaw model, using the current neutrino oscillation data.
We analyse a flavour model for a lepton sector which is based on type I seesaw mechanism, a Z_2 symmetry for lepton flavours, a mu-tau interchange symmetry and a CP symmetry. This model fits well the data of neutrino mass squared differences and oscillation angles. The model predicts an overall neutrino mass scale for normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchy and the effective mass m_beta, which is used in the neutrinoless double beta decay.
We discuss the possible enhancement of the tau lepton events at LHC when the left-handed stau doublet becomes light (which can be even lighter than the right-handed stau). This is illustrated in the constrained supersymmetric seesaw model where the slepton doublet mass is suppressed by the effects of a large neutrino Yukawa coupling. We study a few representative parameter sets in the sneutrino coannihilation regions where the tau sneutrino is NLSP and the stau coannihilation regions where the stau is NLSP both of which yield the thermal neutralino LSP abundance determined by WMAP.
In this work we study the Lepton Flavour Violating semileptonic tau --> mu f0(980) decay within the context of SUSY-Seesaw Models, where the MSSM spectrum is extended by three right handed neutrinos and their SUSY partners, and where the seesaw mechanism is used to generate the neutrino masses. We estimate its decay rate when it proceeds via the Higgs mediated channel tau --> mu H* --> mu f0(980), where H refers to the CP-even MSSM Higgs bosons h^0 and H^0, and the Lepton Flavour Violating tau mu H vertex is radiatively generated via SUSY loops. In order to describe the f0(980) meson we follow…
The tau lepton plays important role in distinguishing neutrino mass patterns and determining the chirality nature in heavy scalar mediated neutrino mass models, in the light of the neutrino oscillation experiments and its polarization measurement. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at LHC upgrades, i.e. HL-LHC, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, through leptonic processes from doubly charged Higgs in the Type II Seesaw. We find that for the channel with one tau lepton in final states, the accessible doubly charged Higgs mass at HL-LHC can reach 655 GeV and 695 GeV for the neutrino mas…
In a version of the 3-3-1 model proposed by Duong and Ma the introduction of the scalar sextet for giving mass to the charged leptons is avoided by adding a singlet charged lepton. We show that in this case the $τ$ lepton gains mass through a seesaw--like mechanism. Besides we show how to generate neutrino masses at the tree and at the 1-loop level with the respective Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata leptonic mixing matrices.
We investigate flavour violating decays of the long-lived lightest slepton and the tau lepton in the coannihilation region of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with a Seesaw mechanism to generate neutrino masses. We consider a situation where the mass difference between the lightest neutralino, as the Lightest Supersymmetric particle (LSP), and the lightest slepton, as the Next-to-LSP, is smaller than the mass of tau lepton. In this situation, the lifetime of the lightest slepton is very long and it is determined by lepton flavour violating (LFV) couplings because the slepton mainly co…
In this paper, we attempt to implement the neutrino $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry (which predicts $θ^{}_{23} = π/4$ and $δ= \pm π/2$ as well as trivial Majorana phases) in the minimal seesaw (which enables us to fix the neutrino masses). For some direct (the preliminary experimental hints towards $θ^{}_{23} \neq π/4$ and $δ\neq - π/2$) and indirect (inclusion of the renormalization group equation effect and implementation of the leptogenesis mechanism) reasons, we particularly study the breakings of this symmetry and their phenomenological consequences.
Motivated by the latest neutrino oscillation data which is consistent with maximal atmospheric mixing and maximal leptonic CP violation, we review various results in $μτ$ symmetry, then include several new observations and clarifications, including identifying a new general form of neutrino mass matrix with $μτ$ symmetry. We then apply the new results to the neutrino mass matrix associated with the Littlest Seesaw model, and show that it approximately satisfies the new general form with $μτ$ symmetry, and that this is responsible for its approximate predictions of maximal atmospheric mixing an…
We propose a $μ-τ$ reflection symmetric Littlest Seesaw ($μτ$-LSS) model. In this model the two mass parameters of the LSS model are fixed to be in a special ratio by symmetry, so that the resulting neutrino mass matrix in the flavour basis (after the seesaw mechanism has been applied) satisfies $μ-τ$ reflection symmetry and has only one free adjustable parameter, namely an overall free mass scale. However the physical low energy predictions of the neutrino masses and lepton mixing angles and CP phases are subject to renormalisation group (RG) corrections, which introduces further parameters. …
Assuming a minimal seesaw model with two heavy neutrinos (N), we examine effects of leptonic CP violation induced by approximate mu-tau symmetric interactions. As long as N is subject to the mu-tau symmetry, we can choose CP phases of Dirac mass terms without loss of generality in such a way that these phases arise from mu-tau symmetry breaking interactions. In the case that no phase is present in heavy neutrino mass terms, leptonic CP phases are controlled by two phases alpha and beta. The similar consideration is extended to N blind to the mu-tau symmetry. It is argued that N subject (blind)…
We study a new supersymmetric mechanism for lepton flavour violation in muon and tau decays and muon -> e conversion in nuclei, within a minimal extension of the MSSM with low-mass heavy singlet neutrinos and sneutrinos. We find that the decays mu -> e gamma, tau -> e gamma and tau -> mu gamma are forbidden in the supersymmetric limit of the theory, whereas other processes, such as mu -> eee, mu -> e conversion, tau -> eee and tau -> e mu mu, are allowed and can be dramatically enhanced several orders of magnitude above the observable level by potentially large neutrino Yukawa coupling effects…
We study charged lepton flavour violation in low-scale seesaw models of minimal supergravity, which realize large neutrino Yukawa couplings thanks to approximate lepton-number symmetries. There are two dominant sources of lepton flavour violation in such models. The first source originates from the usual soft supersymmetry-breaking sector, whilst the second one is entirely supersymmetric and comes from the supersymmetric neutrino Yukawa sector. Within the framework of minimal supergravity, we consider both sources of lepton flavour violation, soft and supersymmetric, and calculate a number of …
In this paper, we make an attempt to combine the neutrino trimaximal (TM1 and TM2) mixings and $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry in the type-I seesaw model. Such a scenario is highly restrictive and predictive: in addition to three right-handed neutrino masses, there are only five real parameters; all the lepton flavor mixing parameters except for $θ^{}_{13}$ will be predicted. The relations between the model parameters and the measurable neutrino parameters will be derived. The implications of this scenario for leptogenesis will be explored in detail. A further reduction of this scenario to the mor…
Recent observations of neutrino oscillations imply non-zero neutrino masses and flavor violation in the lepton sector, most economically explained by the seesaw mechanism. Within the context of supersymmetry, lepton flavor violation (LFV) among the neutrinos can be communicated by renormalization group flow to the sleptons and from there to the charged leptons. We show that LFV can appear in the couplings of the neutral Higgs bosons, an effect that is strongly enhanced at large tan(beta). In particular, we calculate the branching fraction for tau -> 3 mu and mu -> 3 e mediated by Higgs and fin…
In these proceedings we present the results for lepton flavour violating tau and muon decays within the SUSY seesaw scenario. Specifically, we consider the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended by three right handed neutrinos, $ν_{R_i}$ and their corresponding SUSY partners, ${\tilde ν}_{R_i}$, ($i=1,2,3$), and use the seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation. We include the predictions for the branching ratios of two types of lepton flavour violating channels, $l_j \to ł_i γ$ and $l_j \to 3 l_i$, and compare them with the present bounds and future experimental sensit…
The Standard Model includes neutrinos as massless particles, but neutrino oscillations showed that neutrinos are not massless. A simple extension of adding gauge singlet fermions to the particle spectrum allows normal Yukawa mass terms for neutrinos. The smallness of the neutrino masses can be well understood within the seesaw mechanism. We analyse two cases of the minimal extension of the standard model when one or two right-handed fields are added to the three left-handed fields. A second Higgs doublet is included in our model. We calculate the one-loop radiative corrections to the mass para…
In this paper, we consider the imbedding of the popular and well-motivated trimaximal mixing and $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry (which can help us shape the forms of the neutrino mass matrix) in the minimal seesaw model (which contains much fewer parameters than the general seesaw model) with two TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos (for realizing a low-scale seesaw) of nearly degenerate masses (for realizing a resonant leptogenesis). However, either for the trimaximal mixing scenario (which is realized through the Form Dominance approach here) or for the $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry scenario, leptoge…
The measured values for the mixture angles in neutrino oscillations suggest the existence of a symmetry of interchange of flavor between muon and tau neutrinos. Using this symmetry we analyzed the minimal seesaw model for neutrino masses, where the Majorana mass was diagonalized, and it is demonstrated that the model supports at most 3 CP violation phases and 5 real masses at high energies. Nevertheless, at low energies, only 4 parameters of mass and one relative Majorana CP phase remain. Therefore using the experimental values of the masses square differences, the mixture angles and the hiera…
It is pointed out that if a neutrino mass matrix for right-handed neutrinos in seesaw mechanism has mu -tau symmetry and total lepton number L_{e}+L_{μ}+L_τ remains constant (not zero), exact tribimaximal neutrino mixing in this sector is produced. The same follows for the effective Majorana light neutrino mass matrix provided that Yukawa couplings (multiplied by the corresponding Higgs vacuum expectation values) in Dirac mass matrix satisfy some constraints which in general implies zero leptongenesis asymmetry. However this can be avoided when two of the heavy right-hand neutrinos [the third …
We consider the supersymmetric seesaw mechanism induced by the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplet states, rather than `right-handed' neutrino singlets, to generate neutrino masses. We show that in this scenario the neutrino flavour structure tested at low-energy in the atmospheric and solar neutrino experiments is directly inherited from the neutrino Yukawa couplings to the triplets. This allows us to predict the ratio of the tau --> mu gamma (or tau --> e gamma) and mu --> e gamma decay rates in terms of the low-energy neutrino parameters. Moreover, once the model is embedded in a grand unifie…
We conjecture that all CP violations (both Dirac and Majorana types) arise from a common origin in neutrino seesaw. With this conceptually attractive and simple conjecture, we deduce that mu-tau breaking shares the common origin with all CP violations. We study the common origin of mu-tau and CP breaking in the Dirac mass matrix of seesaw Lagrangian (with right-handed neutrinos being mu-tau blind), which uniquely leads to inverted mass-ordering of light neutrinos. We then predict a very different correlation between the two small mu-tau breaking observables theta_{13}-0 and theta_{23}-45, whic…
In this work we study the Lepton Flavour Violating semileptonic $τ$ decays: 1) $τ\to μPP$ with $PP= π^+π^-, π^0π^0, K^+K^-, K^0 {\bar K}^0$; 2) $τ\to μP$ with $P=π^0, η, η'$ and 3) $τ\to μV$ with $V = ρ^0, ϕ$. We work within the context of two constrained MSSM scenarios: the CMSSM and NUHM. A full one-(SUSY)loop computation is presented and the importance of the various contributions, the $γ$-, $Z$-, and Higgs bosons mediated ones are analysed. The hadronization of quark bilinears is performed within the chiral framework. Some discrepancies in the predicted rates for BR($τ\to μη$), BR($τ\to μη…
In this paper, the lepton flavor violating $τ\to \ell P(V)$ ($P,V= π^0, η, η^{\prime}, ρ^0, ω, ϕ$) and $τ\to 3\ell$ ($\ell = e, μ$) decays are studied in the framework of the type-III seesaw model, in which new triplet fermions with a zero hypercharge (Y=0) interact with ordinary lepton doublets via Yukawa couplings, and affect tree-level leptonic Z-boson couplings. We investigate the experimental bound from the leptonic Z decay to get contraint on the exsiting parameters space. We predict that the upper limits on the branching ratios of $τ\to \ell P(V)$ and $τ\to 3\ell$ can reach the experime…
We calculate the predictions for lepton flavour violating (LFV) tau and muon decays, $l_j \to l_i γ$, $l_j \to 3 l_i$, $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei and LFV semileptonic tau decays $τ\to μPP$ with $PP= π^+π^-, π^0π^0, K^+K^-, K^0 {\bar K}^0$ $τ\to μP$ with $P=π^0, η, η'$ and $τ\to μV$ with $V = ρ^0, ϕ$, performing the hadronisation of quark bilinears within the chiral framework. We work within a SUSY-seesaw context where the particle content of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is extended by three right-handed neutrinos plus their corresponding SUSY partners, and where a seesaw mechanism…
Some models for the lepton sector, based on seesaw extensions of the Standard Model, are discussed in which the mu-tau interchange symmetry is realized in various ways. The symmetries defining such models and their characteristic predictions for lepton mixing are presented.
We study the lepton flavor violation in the supersymmetric seesaw model taking into account recent experimental improvements, especially for the Higgs boson mass measurement, direct searches of superpartners and the rare decay of B_s -> mu+ mu- at the LHC, the neutrino mixing angle of theta_{13} at the neutrino experiments, and the search of mu -> e gamma at the MEG experiment. We obtain the latest constraints on the parameters in the supersymmetry breaking terms and study the effect on the lepton flavor violating decays of tau -> mu gamma and mu -> e gamma. In particular, we consider two kind…
We propose a Standard Model extension with underlying A4 flavour symmetry where small Dirac neutrino masses arise from a Type-II seesaw mechanism. The model predicts the "golden" flavour-dependent bottom-tau mass relation, requires an inverted neutrino mass ordering and non-maximal atmospheric mixing angle. Using the latest neutrino oscillation global fit we derive restrictions on the oscillation parameters, such as a correlation between Dirac CP phase and the lightest neutrino mass.
We study lepton flavor violation (LFV) in tau decays induced by heavy Majorana neutrinos within two models: (I) the Standard Model with additional right-handed heavy Majorana neutrinos, i.e., a typical seesaw-type model; (II) the Standard Model with left-handed and right-handed neutral singlets, which are inspired by certain scenarios of SO(10)models and heterotic superstring models with E_6 symmetry. We calculate various LFV branching ratios and a T-odd asymmetry. The seesaw Model I predicts very small branching ratios for LFV processes in most of the parameter space, although in a very restr…
In the canonical up-quark seesaw, the ratios of light neutrino masses are more easily predicted than the masses themselves. Under explicitly enumerated neccesary but minimal assumptions, these ratios are obtained, including radiative corrections. The predictions remain uncertain only by the top quark mass and triviality mass limit, and the power law of the seesaw. The tau neutrino is specially affected by the non-linear effect of the heavy top quark mass. The derived ratios have application to solar, atmospheric, and cosmological neutrinos and laboratory neutrino oscillation searches. The sees…
Assuming the solar and atmospheric neutrino deficits to be due to neutrino oscillations, it is shown that the 3X3 mass matrix spanning the e, mu, and tau neutrinos may have already revealed a seesaw mass pattern. Also, this matrix is the natural reduction of a simple 5X5 seesaw mass matrix with one large scale, the 4X4 reduction of which predicts that a fourth neutrino would mix with the e and mu neutrinos in such a way that oscillations between them may occur just within the detection capability of the LSND (Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector) experiment.
Here we review the main results of LFV in the semileptonic tau decays $τ\to μPP$ ($PP = π^+ π^-, π^0 π^0, K^+ K^-, K^0 \bar{K}^0$), $τ\to μP$ ($P = π, η, η^{\prime}$), and $τ\to μV$ ($V = ρ, ϕ$) as well as in $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei within SUSY-seesaw scenarios, and compare our predictions with the present experimental bounds
The radiative see-saw mechanism of Witten generates the right-handed neutrino masses in SO(10) with the spinorial 16_H Higgs field. We study here analytically the 2nd and 3rd generations for the minimal Yukawa structure containing 10_H and 120_H Higgs representations. In the approximation of small 2nd generation masses and gauge loop domination we find the following results : (1) b-tau unification, (2) natural coexistence between large theta_l and small theta_q, (3) degenerate neutrinos.
We survey the lepton flavor violation branching ratios Br(mu->e,gamma), Br(tau->mu,gamma), and Br(tau->e,gamma) in mSUGRA for a broad class of lepton mass matrix textures that give nearly tribimaximal lepton mixing. Small neutrino masses are generated by the type-I seesaw mechanism with non-degenerate right-handed neutrino masses. The textures exhibit a hierarchical mass pattern and can be understood from flavor models giving rise to large leptonic mixing. We study the branching ratios for the most general CP-violating forms of the textures. It is demonstrated that the branching ratios can be …
In this work the following lepton flavor violating $τ$ and $μ$ decays are studied: $τ^- \to μ^- μ^- μ^+$, $τ^- \to e^- e^- e^+$, $μ^- \to e^- e^- e^+$, $τ^- \to μ^- γ$, $τ^- \to e^- γ$ and $μ^- \to e^- γ$. We work in a constrained supersymmetric scenario with universal soft breaking terms and where the MSSM particle content is extended by the addition of three heavy right handed Majorana neutrinos and their supersymmetric partners. The generation of neutrino masses is done via the seesaw mechanism. We analize all these lepton flavor violating decays in terms of the relevant input parameters, w…
If the minimal standard model of quarks and leptons is extended to include just a righthanded partner to nu_tau, then the quantum number B-3L_tau can be added as a gauge symmetry without the appearance of anomalies. A suitable extension of the scalar sector allows one neutrino to have a seesaw mass, and the other two to have radiative masses, with acceptable phenomenological values for neutrino oscillations. The B-3L_tau gauge boson may be light and be observable through its decay into tau^+ tau^-.
We enlarge the lepton sector of the Standard Model by adding to it two right-handed neutrino singlets, and propose a model based on the seesaw mechanism and on the lepton number $\bar L = L_e - L_μ- L_τ$. The model is innovative from the theoretical point of view in that the $\bar L$-invariant mass term of the right-handed neutrinos is associated with the large mass scale responsible for the seesaw mechanism, whereas $\bar L$ is softly broken at a smaller scale by the remaining Majorana mass terms of the right-handed neutrinos. While being very economical, the model has predictive power: one n…
We thoroughly discuss a new supersymmetric grand unified scenario of the triplet seesaw mechanism where the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplet states generates both neutrino masses and soft supersymmetry breaking terms. This framework, recently proposed by us in a previous work, is highly predictive since it contains only three free parameters connecting low-energy neutrino parameters, lepton and quark flavour violation, sparticle and Higgs boson spectra and electroweak symmetry breakdown. These three parameters are the triplet mass M_T, the effective supersymmetry breaking scale B_T and a coup…
The naturalness of maximal mixing between myon- and tau-neutrinos is investigated. A spontaneously broken nonabelian generation symmetry can explain a small parameter which governs the deviation from maximal mixing. In many cases all three neutrino masses are almost degenerate. Maximal ny_my-ny_tau-mixing would indicate that the leading contribution to the light neutrino masses arises from the expectation value of a heavy weak triplet rather than from the seesaw mechanism. In this scenario the deviation from maximal mixing is predicted to be less than about 1%.
Here we update the predictions for lepton flavour violating tau and muon decays, $l_j \to l_i γ$, $l_j \to 3 l_i$, and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei. We work within a SUSY-seesaw context where the particle content of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is extended by three right handed neutrinos plus their corresponding SUSY partners, and where a seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation is implemented. Two different scenarios with either universal or non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking Higgs masses at the gauge coupling unification scale are considered. After comparing the predic…
We show that the four high-energy Littlest Seesaw parameters in the flavour basis, namely two real Yukawa couplings plus the two right-handed neutrino masses, can be determined by an excellent fit to the seven currently constrained observables of low-energy neutrino data and leptogenesis. Taking into account renormalisation group corrections, we estimate $χ^2 \simeq 1.5-2.6$ for the three d.o.f., depending on the high-energy scale and the type of non supersymmetric Littlest Seesaw model. We extract allowed ranges of neutrino parameters from our fit data, including the approximate mu-tau symmetr…
We investigate the influence of the boundary conditions of minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) on the supersymmetric mechanism for lepton flavour violation (LFV) proposed recently [1], within the framework of the MSSM extended by TeV-scale singlet heavy neutrinos. We find that the consideration of the mSUGRA boundary condition may increase the branching ratios of the muon and tauon decaying into three charged leptons by up to a factor of 5, whereas the corresponding branching ratio for their photonic decays remains almost unchanged.
We propose a simple ansatz for neutrino phenomenology, in which the relevant lepton mass matrices take the universal Fritzsch-like form and the seesaw relation holds under a particular condition. There exist six textures of this nature, but their consequences on neutrino oscillations are exactly the same. We show that our scenario is viable to account for the cosmological baryon number asymmetry via thermal leptogenesis. Its predictions for the lepton-flavor-violating decays μ-> eγ, tau -> μγand τ-> eγare also presented. We find that the branching ratios of these rare processes depend strongly…
Using the seesaw mechanism and a discrete symmetry, we construct a class of models for the neutrino mass matrix where the inverse of that matrix is the sum of a mu-tau antisymmetric background and a perturbation. We consider various possibilities for that perturbation. The simplest possible perturbations lead to four-parameter neutrino mass matrices which are unable to fit the experimental data. More complicated perturbations give rise to viable six-parameter mass matrices; we present detailed predictions of each of them.
We consider the one-loop radiative corrections to the light-neutrino mass matrix and their consequences for the predicted branching ratios of the five lepton-flavour-violating decays $\ell_1^- \to \ell_2^- \ell_3^+ \ell_3^-$ in a two-Higgs-doublet model furnished with the type-I seesaw mechanism and soft lepton-flavour violation. We find that the radiative corrections are very significant; they may alter the predicted branching ratios by several orders of magnitude and, in particular, they may help explain why $\mbox{BR}(μ^- \to e^- e^+ e^-)$ is strongly suppressed relative to the branching ra…
We consider leptogenesis induced by soft supersymmetry breaking terms ("soft leptogenesis"), in the context of the inverse seesaw mechanism. In this model there are lepton number (L) conserving and L-violating soft supersymmetry-breaking B-terms involving the singlet sneutrinos which, together with the -- generically small-- L-violating parameter responsible of the neutrino mass, give a small mass splitting between the four singlet sneutrino states of a single generation. In combination with the trilinear soft supersymmetry breaking terms they also provide new CP violating phases needed to gen…
Strictly adhering to the standard supersymmetric seesaw mechanism, we present a neutrino mass model which allows successful standard thermal leptogenesis compatible with gravitino cosmology. At least some of the neutrino Yukawa couplings must be much larger than the naive estimates following from the seesaw formula. This leads to large BR(mu->e gamma), detectable in the next round of experiments. Ratios of mu->e gamma, tau->e gamma and tau->mu gamma branching ratios are predicted in terms of the measurable neutrino mass matrix.
We study the predictions for BR(mu-> e+gamma) and BR(tau-> e,mu+gamma) in a class of recently proposed horizontal SU(2) model that leads to a 3 X 2 seesaw model for neutrino masses. We consider two such models and obtain the correct bi-large mixing pattern for neutrinos. In these models, the effective low energy theory below the SU(2)_H scale is the MSSM. Assuming a supersymmetry breaking pattern as in the minimal SUGRA models, we find that consistent with present g-2, b->s+gamma and WMAP dark matter constraints on the parameters of the model, the BR(mu-> e+gamma) prediction is accessible to t…
The most general supersymmetric seesaw mechanism has too many parameters to be predictive and thus can not be excluded by any measurements of lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes. We focus on the simplest version of the type-I seesaw mechanism assuming minimal supergravity (mSugra) boundary conditions. We compute branching ratios for the LFV scalar tau decays, ${\tilde τ}_2 \to (e,μ) + χ^0_1$, as well as loop-induced LFV decays at low energy, such as $l_i \to l_j + γ$ and $l_i \to 3 l_j$, exploring their sensitivity to the unknown seesaw parameters. We find some simple, extreme scenarios f…
We consider the Standard Model with an arbitrary number n_H of Higgs doublets and enlarge the lepton sector by adding to each lepton family \ell a right-handed neutrino singlet ν_{\ell R}. We assume that all Yukawa-coupling matrices are diagonal, but the Majorana mass matrix M_R of the right-handed neutrino singlets is an arbitrary symmetric matrix, thereby introducing an explicit but soft violation of all lepton numbers. We investigate lepton-flavor-violating processes within this model. We pay particular attention to the large-m_R behavior of the amplitudes for these processes, where m_R is …
We consider an exact mu-tau reflection symmetry in neutrino sectorrealized at the GUT scale in the context of the seesaw model with and without supersymmetry. Assuming the two lighter heavy Majorana neutrinos are degenerate at the GUT scale, it is shown that the renormalization group (RG) evolution from the GUT scale to the seesaw scale gives rise to breaking of the mu-tau symmetry and a tiny splitting between two degenerate heavy Majorana neutrino masses as well as small variations of the CP phases in Y_nu, which are essential to achieve a successful leptogenesis. Such small RG effects lead t…
We focus on the use of a mu-tau interchange symmetry to explain features of lepton mixing, especially maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing. We review two models which achieve this goal and are based on the seesaw mechanism and on the soft breaking of the family-lepton-number symmetries. We also note that that symmetry may be embedded in a generalized CP symmetry. We show that, in the context of some of our models, arguments of naturalness may be used for explaining the smallness of the mass ratio m_mu / m_tau.
It is shown that the singular seesaw mechanism can simultaneously explain all the existing data supporting nonzero neutrino masses and mixing. The three mass-squared differences that are needed to accommodate the atmospheric neutrino data (through $ν_μ- ν_s$ oscillation), the solar neutrino data via MSW mechanism (through $ν_e - ν_τ$ oscillation), and the positive result of $ν_μ- ν_e$ oscillation from LSND can be generated by this mechanism, whereas the vacuum oscillation solution to the solar neutrino problem is disfavored. We find that the electron and tau neutrino masses are of order $10^{-…
We discuss the problem of the small ratio of muon mass to tau mass in a class of seesaw models where maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing is enforced through a $μ$--$τ$ interchange symmetry. We introduce into those models an additional symmetry $T$ such that $m_μ= 0$ in the case of exact $T$ invariance. The symmetry $T$ may be softly broken in the Higgs potential, and one thus achieves $m_μ\ll m_τ$ in a technically natural way. We speculate on a wider applicability of this mechanism.
We first study the hadronic lepton flavor violating tau decays within the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (including one or two pseudoscalars, or a vector resonance). We consider the case where only T-odd particles and partner fermions contribute, and also its extension including Majorana neutrinos coming from an inverse seesaw. In both cases our mean values lie only one order of magnitude below current upper limits, strengthening the case of searching for these decays in the quest for new physics.
The most general supersymmetric seesaw mechanism has too many parameters to be predictive and thus can not be excluded by any measurements of lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes. We focus on the simplest version of the type-I seesaw mechanism assuming minimal supergravity boundary conditions. We find some simple, extreme scenarios for the un…
We study the impact of neutrino masses and mixings on LFV processes within the context of the supersymmetric seesaw scenario, where the CMSSM is extended by three right-handed (s)neutrinos. A hierarchical spectrum is considered for both heavy and light neutrinos. We systematically analyse the interesting relation between the leptonic mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and LFV muon and tau decays, namely $l_j \to l_i γ$ and $l_j \to 3 l_i$, and discuss the interplay with the other relevant parameters. We require compatibility with low energy neutrino data, bounds on both LFV decays and charged lepton electr…
