The presence of charged Higgs bosons is a generic prediction of multiplet extensions of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs sector. Focusing on the Two-Higgs-Doublet-Model (2HDM), we discuss the charged Higgs boson collider phenomenology in the theoretically and experimentally viable parameter space. While almost all existing experimental searches at the LHC target the fermionic decays of charged Higgs bosons, we point out that the bosonic decay channels -- especially the decay into a non-SM-like Higgs boson and a $W$ boson -- often dominate over the fermionic channels. Moreover, we revisit two genuine BSM effects on the properties of the discovered Higgs boson -- the charged Higgs contribution to the diphoton rate and the Higgs decay to two light Higgs bosons -- and their implication for the charged Higgs boson phenomenology. As main result of the present paper, we propose five two-dimensional benchmark scenarios with distinct phenomenological features in order to facilitate the design of dedicated LHC searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a $W$ boson and a light, non-SM-like Higgs boson.
Searches for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson focus on the 'gold plated mode' where the Higgs decays to two leptonic Z bosons. This channel provides a clean signature, in spite of the small leptonic branching ratios. We show that using fat jets the semi-leptonic ZZ mode significantly increases the number of signal events with a similar statistical significance as the leptonic mode.
Searches for multi-Higgs final states allow to constrain parameters of the SM (or extensions thereof) that directly relate to the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. Multi-Higgs production cross sections, however, are small and the phenomenologically accessible final states are challenging to isolate in the busy multi-jet hadron collider environment of the LHC run 2. This makes the necessity to extend the list of potentially observable production mechanisms obvious. Most of the phenomenological analyses in the past have focused on $gg\to hh+jets$; in this paper we study $pp\to t\bar t …
The existence of charged Higgs boson(s) is inevitable in models with two (or more) Higgs doublets. Hence, their discovery would constitute unambiguous evidence for new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). Taking into account all relevant results from direct charged and neutral Higgs boson searches at LEP and the LHC, as well as the most recent constraints from flavour physics, we present a detailed analysis of the current phenomenological status of the charged Higgs sector in a variety of well-motivated Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs). We find that charged Higgs bosons as light as 75 GeV c…
Charged Higgs boson can exist in many physics beyond the standard models (BSM) and it is the obvious BSM signal. We briefly describe why the 125GeV scalar discovered at the LHC must have (heavy) companion: the charged Higgs boson, in a new paradigm. We then focus on the charged Higgs phenomenology, especially on how to measure $\tanβ$ precisely utilizing the top quark polarization information.
After the recent discovery of a Higgs-like boson, the possibility of an enlarged scalar sector arises as a natural question. Experimental searches for charged scalars have been already performed with negative results. We analyze the phenomenology associated with a fermiophobic charged Higgs (it does not couple to fermions at tree level), in two-Higgs-doublet models. All present experimental bounds are evaded trivially in this case, and one needs to consider other decay and production channels. We study the associated production of a charged Higgs with either a $W$ or a neutral scalar boson, an…
The calculation of the rare $t$-quark decay $t \to b W b \bar{b}$ within the Standard Model as well as the charged Higgs contribution to this decay is presented. The role of possible background processes is discussed. It is shown that this decay provides an additional possibility for charged Higgs searches.
We discuss two-Higgs-doublet models in view of the present flavour data, in particular present indirect bounds and different techniques of flavour protection
The LHC program for discovery of light charged Higgs with mass 135-180 GeV has to take into account decay $H^+\to \bar{b}\,t^*\to W^+b\bar{b}$. The distribution of decay products in effective mass of $t^*=Wb$ is obtained.
When the charged Higgs boson is too heavy to be produced in pairs, the predominant production mechanism at Linear Colliders is via the single charged Higgs boson production processes, such as $e^-e^+ \to b \bar c H^+, τ\bar νH^+$ and $γγ\to b \bar c H^+, τ\bar νH^+$. We show that the yield of a heavy charged Higgs boson at a $γγ$ collider is typically one or two orders of magnitude larger than that at an $e^-e^+$ collider. Furthermore, a polarized $γγ$ collider can determine the chirality of the Yukawa couplings of fermions with charged Higgs boson via single charged Higgs boson production, an…
We propose a novel process where singly charged Higgs bosons are produced in a same-sign pair via vector boson fusion at hadron colliders in two Higgs doublet models. The process directly relates to the global symmetry structure of the Higgs potential. The produced charged Higgs bosons predominantly decay into a tau lepton and the neutrino or into a pair of top and bottom quarks, depending on the type of Yukawa interactions. We evaluate the signal and the background for the both cases at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and future higher-energy hadron colliders. We find that the process can be f…
Motivated by recent anomalous CDF data on $Wjj$ events, we study a possible explanation within the framework of the two-Higgs doublet model. We find that a charged Higgs boson of mass $\sim$ 140 GeV with appropriate couplings can account for the observed excess. In addition, we consider the flavor-changing neutral current effects induced at loop level by the charged Higgs boson on the $B$ meson system to further constrain the model. Our study shows that the like-sign charge asymmetry $A_{s\ell}^b$ can be of ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ in this scenario.
We study the process of single-top production in association with a charged Higgs boson at the LHC and discuss how top-quark polarization and an azimuthal asymmetry $A_φ$ of the charged lepton from top decay can be used in some extensions of the Standard Model to determine or constrain the charged Higgs boson mass. We also discuss some scenarios where these variables can be used to distinguish between different models.
In this work productions of charged and doubly charged scalars and their lepton flavor violating collider signals in the framework of littlest Higgs model at LHC are studied. In the allowed parameter region of the littlest Higgs model, the production rates of the scalars of littlest Higgs model via $pp \to ϕ^{++}ϕ^{-}$, $pp \to ϕ^+ϕ^-$ and $pp \to ϕ^{++}ϕ^{--}$ processes are calculated. We obtained that charged and doubly charged scalar pairs can be produced at LHC . Considering the possible lepton flavor violating decays of charged scalars found in literature, final state analysis is done. Th…
Higgs pair production is one of the primary goals of the LHC program. Investigating the effects beyond the Standard Model (BSM) is then of high interest. Two cases are presented to exemplify the impact of BSM physics on Higgs pair production and on the triple Higgs coupling: first a review on charged Higgs pair production mostly in the context of Two-Higgs-Doublet of type II and in particular the Minimal Supersymmetric SM, second a study of the one-loop effects of a heavy neutrino on the triple Higgs coupling.
We study the signals for a "fermiophobic" charged Higgs boson present in an extension of the standard model with an additional Higgs doublet and right handed neutrinos, responsible for generating Dirac-type neutrino masses. We study the pair production of the charged Higgs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which can be relatively light and still allowed by experimental data. The charged Higgs decays dominantly into a $W$ boson and a very light neutral scalar present in the model, which decays invisibly and passes undetected. We find that the signal for such a charged Higgs is overwhelmed by …
We present numerical calculations of the partial width of the charged Higgs boson decay into a top quark, $H^- \rightarrow \bar{t} + b + X$, and the partial width of the top quark decay into a light charged Higgs boson $t \rightarrow H^+ + b + X$ at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD, based on a factorization formula of the jet mass. The NNLO corrections significantly reduce the renormalization scale dependence of the partial decay width in both cases. We show relative size of the NNLO corrections for different charged Higgs boson masses and for different renormalization scales. The N…
We systematically study model-independent constraints on the three generic charged Higgs couplings to $b$-quarks and up-type quarks. While existing LHC searches have focussed on the $tb$ coupling, we emphasize that the LHC plays a crucial role in probing also $ub$ and $cb$ couplings, since constraints from flavor physics are weak. In particular we propose various new searches that can significantly extend the present reach on the parameter space by: i) looking for light charged Higgses that decay into $ub$-quarks, ii) probing charged Higgs couplings to light and top quarks using multi-$b$-jet …
Extending the Standard Model (SM) scalar sector via one or multiple Higgs field(s) in higher representation brings one or more charged Higgs bosons in the spectrum. Some of these gauge representations with appropriate hypercharge can bring up doubly charged Higgs boson and can be easily distinguished from the existing models with only singly charged Higgs boson. In this study we focus on distinguishing the singly charged Higgs bosons from different representations, viz. doublets and triplets of $SU(2)_L$ gauge group. We consider a supersymmetric extension of SM with a gauge singlet and $SU(2)_…
A possible discovery of a relatively light charged Higgs boson H^+ in near future experiments, with a mass M_{H+} ~< 110 GeV, together with the present LEP2 direct limits on the chargino and neutral Higgs sectors, would disfavour the minimal supersymmetric standard model as well as its frequently discussed next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension. We show that a supersymmetric origin can naturally be ascribed to the existence of such a light charged Higgs scalar within the context of the recently introduced minimal nonminimal supersymmetric standard model.
We study the effect of a light charged Higgs appearing in supersymmetric models containing two Higgs doublets on the measurement of leptonic branching ratios of the W boson at LEP. We show that the $2.8 σ$ excess of the branching ratio $W \to τν$ with respect to the other leptons correlates well with the existence of charged Higgs with mass close to the mass of the W boson which dominantly decays into $W^\star$ and a light CP odd Higgs boson $A$ with mass below $2m_b$, so that it decays into $τ^+ τ^-$ and $c \bar c$. There are no searches for the charged Higgs in this channel and thus it could…
Two Higgs doublet extensions of the standard model, such as supersymmetry, predict the existence of charged Higgs bosons. We explore the reach for TeV-scale charged Higgs bosons through their associated production with top quarks, and their decay to boosted top jets and $μ_x$ tagged boosted bottom jets, at a 14 TeV CERN Large Hadron Collider and at a 100 TeV Future Circular Collider. In particular, we show the moderate $\tanβ$ "wedge" region of parameter space cannot be probed at the Large Hadron Collider for TeV-scale $H^\pm$ because the cross section is too small. However, a 100 TeV future p…
In this talk I consider the current status of $B \rightarrow D^{(*)} τν$ decays in the context of two-Higgs-doublet models. The BaBar collaboration has reported an excess in semileptonic $b \rightarrow c τν$ transitions that has gathered recent interest as a possible signature of new physics. The sensitivity of these decays to tree-level charged Higgs boson contributions is discussed, taking into account the constraints from other semileptonic and leptonic meson decays in which the charged Higgs would enter at the same level.
We show that a light charged Higgs boson signal via $τ^\pmν$ decay can be established at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) also in the case of single top production. This process complements searches for the same signal in the case of charged Higgs bosons emerging from $t \bar t$ production. The models accessible include the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as well a variety of 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs). High energies and luminosities are however required, thereby restricting interest on this mode to the case of the LHC running at 14 TeV with design configuration.
We present a discussion of light charged Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in CP-conserving 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs). Taking into account all available experimental and theoretical constraints we review all possible processes that would allow for a detection of such a particle with a mass below the top quark mass. Two different types of processes are analysed: one that depends only on tan beta and on the charged Higgs boson mass because it involves only the charged Higgs boson Yukawa couplings; the other that depends on almost all model parameters, mainly due to the…
Current searches for the charged Higgs at the LHC focus only on the $τν$, $cs$, and $tb$ final states. Instead, we consider the process $pp\to Φ\to W^\pm H^\mp \to W^+ W^- A$ where $Φ$ is a heavy neutral Higgs boson, $H^\pm$ is a charged Higgs boson, and $A$ is a light Higgs boson, with mass either below or above the $b\bar{b}$ threshold. The cross-section for this process is typically large when kinematically open since $H^\pm \to W^\pm A$ can be the dominant decay mode of the charged Higgs. The final state we consider has two leptons and missing energy from the doubly leptonic decay of the $…
Charged Higgs boson may be produced at hadron colliders via the decay of top quarks. At the LHC, The large production cross section of top quarks pairs will make it one of the earliest channels allowing to search for physics beyond the standard model. Assuming the decay $H^+ \to τ^+ν$, previous searches have so far considered only hadronic tau decays. Here we show that by using appropriate kinematical variables (transverse mass observables), leptonic tau decays can be used as well, for both observing and possibly measuring the mass of the charged Higgs boson. This can increase the overall expe…
The main production mode for a light charged Higgs boson at the LHC is $pp \to t \bar t$, with one the top-quarks decaying to a charged Higgs and a $b$-quark. However, single top production also gives rise to final states with charged Higgs bosons. In this work we analyse how the two processes compare at the LHC@14TeV. We will be working in the framework of the two-Higgs double model, considering both a CP-conserving and a CP-violating version of the model. We conclude that the single top mode could help to constrain the parameter space in several versions of the model. We also discuss the rol…
We analyse the signal sensitivity of multi-lepton final states at collider that can arise from doubly and singly charged Higgs decay in a type-II seesaw framework. We assume triplet vev to be very small and degenerate masses for both the charged Higgs states. The leptonic branching ratio of doubly and singly charged Higgs states have a large dependency on the neutrino oscillation parameters, lightest neutrino mass scale, as well as neutrino mass hierarchy. We explore this as well as the relation between the leptonic branching ratios of the singly and doubly charged Higgs states in detail. We e…
Several extensions of the Standard Model have light doubly-charged Higgs bosons in their particle spectrum. The supersymmetric versions of these models introduce fermionic superpartners of these doubly-charged Higgs bosons, the Higgsinos, which also remain light. In this work we analyze a new collider signal resulting from the pair production and decay of a light doubly-charged Higgsino to an even lighter doubly-charged Higgs boson. We focus on the minimal left-right supersymmetric model with automatic R-parity conservation, which predicts such a light doubly-charged Higgs boson and its Higgsi…
We study the production of a heavy charged Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in $gb\to H^{-} t$ within a Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). The chiral structure of the $H^{-} t \bar{b}$ coupling can trigger a particular spin state of the top quark produced in the decay of a charged Higgs boson and, therefore, is sensitive to the underlying mechanism of the Electro-Weak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB). Taking two benchmark models (2HDM type-I and 2HDM type-Y) as an example, we show that inclusive rates, differential distributions as well as forward-backward asymmetries of the top quark's dec…

Pseudoscalar and charged Higgs bosons production in the processes $μ^+ μ^-\to P^0_i Z^0$, $μ^+μ^- \to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}$ within the models with several Higgs doublets and singlets is considered.
Searches for charged Higgs bosons are an integral part of current and future investigations at the LHC. The LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group (LHCHXSWG) was created to provide cross sections, branching ratios, analysis strategies etc. for Higgs boson searches at the LHC. We briefly review progress and results for charged Higgs bosons in and for the LHCHXSWG.
We consider the production of singly charged Higgs bosons in the Higgs triplet and two Higgs doublet models. We evaluate the cross sections for the pair production and the single production of charged higgses at linear collider. The decay modes of $H^+$ and the Standard Model backgrounds are considered. We analyze the possibilities to differentiate between triplet and two Higgs doublet models.
In this short review we discuss two implementations of the charged Higgs boson production process in association with a top quark in Monte Carlo event generators at next-to-leading order in QCD. We introduce the MC@NLO and the POWHEG method of matching next-to-leading order matrix elements with parton showers and compare both methods analyzing the charged Higgs boson production process in association with a top quark. We shortly discuss the case of a light charged Higgs boson where the associated charged Higgs production interferes with the charged Higgs production via t tbar-production and su…
We study the phenomenology of the charged Higgs boson in the "flipped" two Higgs doublet model, in which one doublet gives mass to up-type quarks and charged leptons and the other gives mass to down-type quarks. We present the charged Higgs branching ratios and summarize the indirect constraints. We extrapolate existing LEP searches for H+H- and Tevatron searches for t tbar with t --> H+ b into the flipped model and extract constraints on MH+ and the parameter tan(beta). We finish by reviewing existing LHC charged Higgs searches and suggest that the LHC reach in this model could be extended fo…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model squark mixing can significantly change the pattern of charged-Higgs production. We find that non-minimal flavor structures can have a sizeable impact on the charged-Higgs production cross section, whereas charged-Higgs searches may be able to probe flavor structures not accessible to rare kaon, bottom or charm experiments, and can invalidate the assumption of minimal flavor violation.
The production of triple Higgs $(H^+H^-H^0)$, $(H^+H^-h^0)$ and pair wise charged Higgs boson $(H^+H^-)$ is studied in the context of future linear colliders within the Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) type II. The aim is to compare sources of charged Higgs pair through the above processes, i.e., double and triple Higgs production. Cross-sections are calculated at the leading order in 2HDM type II and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Several orders of magnitude ($\sim 10^{4}$) enhancement is observed in 2HDM compared to MSSM, while no sizable enhancement is seen in muon collider ver…
We explain the current excess seen at the Large Hadron Collider via the $gg\to H\toγγ$ channel in the search for a neutral Higgs boson in terms of both singly (marginally) and doubly (predominantly) charged Higgs bosons predicted by the Higgs Triplet Model.
We point out that in a large class of supersymmetric left-right models with automatic R-parity conservation there are a pair of light doubly charged Higgs bosons and Higgsinos. Requiring the mass of these particles to satisfy the LEP Z-width bound implies that $W_R$ mass must be above $10^{9}$ GeV.
We show that simple extensions of two Higgs doublet models consisting of new heavy neutrinos and a singly charged Higgs boson singlet can successfully explain the experimental data on muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments thanks to large chirally-enhanced one-loop level contributions. These contributions arise from the large couplings of inverse seesaw neutrinos with singly charged Higgs bosons and right-handed charged leptons. The regions of parameter space satisfying the experimental data on $(g-2)_{e,μ}$ anomalies allow heavy singly charged Higgs boson masses above the TeV scale, pro…
We study the discovery prospects of the charged Higgs boson in the context of multi Higgs models in certain BSM scenarios. We classify models into three categories based on the charged Higgs coupling properties: gaugophobic, fermiophobic, and chromophobic. In each case, we identify viable modes of discovery, and present LHC analysis for discovery. We find that extensions of the Standard Model in which the charged Higgs does not couple to colored particles offer the best possible avenues for discovery.
We review the status of publicly available software tools applicable to charged Higgs physics. A selection of codes are highlighted in more detail, focusing on new developments that have taken place since the previous charged Higgs workshop in 2008. We conclude that phenomenologists now have the tools ready to face the LHC data. A new webpage collecting charged Higgs resources is presented.
It is shown that the radiation of a charged Higgs boson off a third-generation quark (charged-Higgs-strahlung) provides an important channel for the discovery of the charged Higgs at hadron colliders. Equivalently, in supersymmetric models with explicit lepton-number (R-parity) violation, sleptons may also be produced in association with quarks (slepton-strahlung). Higgs- and slepton-strahlung production cross sections are given for both the Tevatron and the LHC. The LHC cross sections imply that heavy ${\cal{O}}$(TeV) charged Higgs bosons can be produced via charged-Higgs-strahlung and that s…
We present a new charged Higgs search technique using the effects of scalar dynamics in semileptonic meson decay. Applying this method to a modest sample of B meson decays yields sensitivity to the high tan(beta) region well beyond existing charged Higgs searches. We present a new charged Higgs search technique using the effects of scalar dynamics in semileptonic meson decay. Applying this method to a modest sample of B meson decays yields sensitivity to the high tan(beta) region well beyond existing charged Higgs searches.
The discovery potential for charged Higgs bosons at the ATLAS and CMS experiments is discussed with focus on the MSSM. Studies for several decay channels for the charged Higgs boson are presented both for production in top quark decays and gluon-gluon/gluon-bottom fusion.
I present a calculation of QCD radiative corrections to charged Higgs production via the process bg -> tH-. I show that the cross section is dominated by soft-gluon corrections, which are computed through next-to-next-to-leading order. Results for charged Higgs production at the LHC are presented, including the dependence of the cross section on the charged Higgs mass, the top quark mass, the factorization and renormalization scales, and tan beta.
A scheme of neutrino mass generation is proposed by [arXiv:2003.12069], in which the small nonzero neutrino masses come from nonzero vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the charged Higgs field in the Higgs doublet in the Standard Model of particle physics (SM). However, the introduction of nonzero VEV for the charged Higgs field implies broken ${\rm U}(1)$ symmetry in the electroweak theory, which leads to non-conservation of electric charge and nonzero mass of photon. By comparing the predicted ratio of VEVs of charged Higgs field and neutral Higgs field in [1] with the ratio constrained by the…
In this paper the triple Higgs production in a general two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) is studied. The production process is e+e- -> H+H-H0 followed by the charged Higgs decay to a pair of tau nu and the neutral Higgs decay to bb. The alternative process H+W-H0 is also included as a source of charged Higgs signal in the analysis. The focus is on a future e+e- linear collider operating at sqrt(s) = 1.5 TeV. The final state under consideration (tau tau bb ETmiss) is suitable for electroweak background rejection using the b-tagging tools. It is shown that although the signal cross section is small…
In this study the charged Higgs signal through triple or double Higgs production in a general two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) is investigated. The main production process is $e^+e^- \rightarrow H^+H^-H^0$ followed by the charged Higgs decay to a pair of $τν$ and the neutral Higgs decay to $b\bar{b}$. The alternative process $H^+W^-H^0$ is also included as a source of charged Higgs signal in the analysis having comparable cross-section. The focus is on a future $e^+e^-$ linear collider operating at $\sqrt{s}=1.5$ TeV. The final state under consideration ($τ^+ τ^- b \bar{b} E^{\textnormal{miss}}_…
We discuss single charged Higgs boson production from $e^+e^-$ annihilation at next generation linear colliders. They can be important to study the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons, especially when charged Higgs bosons are too heavy to be produced by the pair production mechanism. Cross sections for various single production processes are evaluated at the leading order. Our analysis shows that in some parameter regions the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons can be explored even beyond the kinematic limit for pair production by using single production processes.
The D0 experiment has reported a direct search for a charged Higgs boson produced by $q \bar q$ annihilation and decaying to $t \bar b$ final state, in the $180 \leq M_{H^+} \leq 300$ GeV mass range. The analysis has lead to upper limits on the production cross section in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model types I, II and III. We compare the predictions of two different scenarios in the framework of the two Higgs doublet type III to the cross section limits reported by D0 collaboration, and we obtain constraints on the charged Higgs mass, for the case when the charged Higgs mass is b…
We review and update the interpretation of the 125 GeV scalar as the lightest Higgs boson of the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model, allowing for CP violation in the potential. The detection of a charged Higgs boson would exclude the Standard Model. Proposed benchmarks for charged-Higgs searches in the channel pp\to H^+W^-X\to W^+W^-H_1X are reviewed and updated.
The Higgs sector of the standard model can be extended by introducing an $SU(2)_L$ Higgs triplet $Δ$ to generate the tiny neutrino masses in the framework of type-II seesaw mechanism. In this paper, we study the pair production of the introduced Higgs triplet at future $e^{-}p$ colliders. The corresponding production cross sections via vector boson fusion process at FCC-ep and ILC$\otimes$FCC are predicted, where the production of a pair of doubly charged Higgs is found to be dominant and then used to investigate the collider phenomenology of the Higgs triplet. Depending on the size of the Hig…
I discuss charged Higgs production via the process bg -> t H- at the LHC. I show that the cross section is dominated by soft-gluon corrections and I provide results for its dependence on the charged Higgs mass and on the scale, including higher-order effects.
The production of single and doubly charged Higgs bosons associated with standard model gauge boson $Z_L$ in $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders are examined. The sensitivity of these processes on the littlest Higgs model parameters in the range of compatibility with electroweak precision observables are analyzed. The possibility of detecting lepton flavor violation processes are also discussed.
