Astrophysical models studying the origin of the p-nuclei require knowledge of the reaction rates of photodisintegrations and capture reactions. Since experimental data at astrophysically relevant energies are limited, reaction rate calculations rely on Hauser-Feshbach (HF) theory predictions. The HF theory requires nuclear physics input such as masses, level densities, $γ$-ray strength functions and proton-nucleus optical potentials (pOMP). The scope of this work is to improve a global semi-microscopic pOMP at energies relevant to the p-process. This is achieved by adjusting the normalization parameters of the OMP to all available proton-capture cross sections measured at low energies. By establishing the systematic behaviour of these parameters, one expects to enhance the predictive power of the pOMP when expanding to mass regions where no data exists. The HF calculations were obtained using TALYS code. The normalization parameters for the real and imaginary central potentials ($λ_V$ and $λ_W$) were adjusted to fit the proton data in the energy range where the cross-section are independent of the other nuclear inputs. Results show that the $λ_V$ parameter has a strong mass dependence that can be described by a second-degree polynomial function for A $\leq$ 100 and an exponential increase for 100 < A < 162. Though variations of the $λ_W$ have a smaller effect on the calculations, a global increase by 50$\%$ improves the results for certain nuclei without affecting the rest of the cases. The resulting adjustment functions were obtained by fitting all suitable proton data and can be used with reasonable confidence to generate the global semi-microscopic pOMP for nuclei in the medium to heavy mass region. For better statistics, more low-energy (p,$γ$) cross section data are needed for heavier nuclei with mass A $>$ 100.
Quasireal photons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at intermediate and high energies, applications to nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and particle physics
Nucleus-nucleus optical potentials are constructed from an energy density functional approach first outlined by Brueckner et al. The interaction term of the energy density functional comes from the complex nucleon self-energy computed in nuclear matter with two- and three-body chiral nuclear forces. Nuclear density distributions are calculated from Skyrme functionals constrained to the equations of state calculated from the same chiral forces used for the self-energy. Predictions for elastic scattering cross sections and fusion cross sections are compared to experimental data. Very good agreem…
A microscopic optical potential (OP) is derived from NN chiral potentials at the first-order term within the spectator expansion of the multiple scattering theory and adopting the impulse approximation. The performances of our OP are compared with those of a phenomenological OP in the description of elastic proton scattering data on different isotopic chains. An analogous scheme is adopted to construct a microscopic OP for elastic antiproton-nucleus scattering. The results of our OPs are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental data, for both elastic proton and antiproton-nucleus sca…
Microscopic optical potentials have been successful in describing nucleon-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus scattering. Some essential ingredients of the framework, however, have not been examined in detail. Applicability of the microscopic folding model is systematically investigated. Effect of an antisymmetrization factor (ASF) appearing in multiple scattering theory, theoretical uncertainty regarding the local density approximation (LDA), and the validity of a prescription for nonlocality, the Brieva-Rook (BR) localization, of the microscopic potential, are quantitatively estimated for nucleon-nu…
The understanding of the fusion probability is of particular importance to reveal the mechanism of producing superheavy elements. We present a microscopic study of the compound nucleus formation by combining time-dependent density functional theory, coupled-channels approach, and dynamical diffusion models. The fusion probability and compound nucleus formation cross sections for cold-fusion reactions $^{48}$Ca+$^{208}$Pb, $^{50}$Ti+$^{208}$Pb, and $^{54}$Cr+$^{208}$Pb are investigated and it is found that the deduced capture barriers, capture cross sections for these reactions are consistent w…
We develop for the first time a microscopic global nucleon-nucleus optical potential with quantified uncertainties suitable for analyzing nuclear reaction experiments at next-generation rare-isotope beam facilities. Within the improved local density approximation and without any adjustable parameters, we begin by computing proton-nucleus and neutron-nucleus optical potentials from a set of five nuclear forces from chiral effective field theory for 1800 target nuclei in the mass range 12 $\leq$ A $\leq$ 242 for energies between 0 MeV $<$ E $\lesssim$ 150 MeV. We then parameterize a global optic…
Comparison of optical model results from a microscopic Schrödinger approach to nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering with those from a global Dirac phenomenology
The optical potential without any free parameters for $^7$Li-nucleus interaction system is studied in a microscopic approach. It is obtained by folding the microscopic optical potentials of the constituent nucleons of $^{7}$Li over their density distributions. We employ an isospin-dependent nucleon microscopic optical potential, which is based on the Skyrme nucleon-nucleon effective interaction and derived by using the Green's function method, to be the nucleon optical potential. Harmonic oscillator shell model is used to describe the internal wave function of $^7$Li and get the nucleon densit…
The Microscopic Otical Model Potential is evaluated within a relativistic scheme which provides a natural and consistent relation between the spin-orbit part and the central part of the potential. The Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach provides such a microscopic relativistic scheme, which is based on a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction and reproduce the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter without any adjustable parameter. Its solution using the projection technique within the subtracted T-matrix (STM) representation provides a reliable extension to asymmetric nucle…
The problem of nucleon-nucleon correlations and meson exchange currents has been vividly debated in connection with the neutrino-nucleus cross sections. In this work we focus on nucleon-nucleon correlations by discussing a formal correspondence between the approaches based on independent particles and the ab initio approaches involving correlated wave functions. We use a general technique based on unitary transformation mapping the Fermion operators relative to bare nucleons into quasi-particle operators relative to dressed nucleons. We derive formulas for spectral functions, response function…
We study the exotic deformed nucleus $^{31}$Ne using an approach that combines self-consistent structure and reaction theory. We utilize the fully-relativistic, microscopic deformed Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) to demonstrate that deformation and pairing correlations give rise to a halo structure with large-amplitude $p$-wave configuration in $^{31}$Ne. We then use the valence nucleon wave functions and angle-averaged density distributions of $^{30}$Ne from this model as input for a Glauber reaction model to study the observables of neutron-rich Neon isotopes and search for h…
Two newly observed bands built on a two-quasiparticle configuration in 130Ba have been investigated for the first time with the microscopic projected shell model. The experimental energy spectra and the available electromagnetic transition probabilities are well reproduced. The wobbling character of the higher band is revealed by the angular momentum projected wavefunctions via the K plot and the azimuthal plot. This provides the first strong microscopic evidence for wobbling motion based on a two-quasiparticle configuration in even-even nuclei.
We formulate a microscopic optical potential from chiral two- and three-body forces. The real and imaginary central terms of the optical potential are obtained from the nucleon self-energy in infinite matter, while the real spin-orbit term is extracted from a nuclear energy density functional constructed from the density matrix expansion using the same chiral potential. The density-dependent optical potential is then folded with the nuclear density distributions for selected Calcium isotopes resulting in energy-dependent nucleon-nucleus optical potentials from which we study proton-nucleus ela…
We propose a semi-microscopic model for the simultaneous emission of two protons. This model has the advantage of avoiding certain technical aspects of a fully microscopic 3-body framework, while also allowing the investigation of the influence of proton pairing on the total lifetime of the decaying nucleus. Thus, we use the standard singlet two-proton wave function on the nuclear surface, provided by the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) approach, as a boundary condition for the propagator operator. Our model allows for the estimation of all quantities related to the $2p$ emission process, sinc…

The transformation of an atomic nucleus into two excited fission fragments is modeled as a strongly damped evolution of the nuclear shape, until scission occurs at a small critical neck radius, at which point the mass, charge, and shape of each fragment are extracted. The available excitation energy then is divided statistically on the basis of the microscopic level densities. This approach takes account of the important (and energy-dependent) finite-size effects. After the fragments have been fully accelerated and their shapes have relaxed to their equilibrium form, they undergo sequential ne…
Elastic scattering is a very important process to understand nuclear interactions in finite nuclei. Despite decades of efforts, the goal of reaching a coherent description of this physical process in terms of microscopic forces is still far from being completed. In previous papers (Phys. Rev. C93, 034619 (2016), Phys. Rev. C96, 044001 (2017)) we derived a nonrelativistic theoretical optical potential from nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials at fourth (N3LO) and fifth order (N4LO). We checked convergence patterns and established theoretical error bands. With this work we study the performances of…
A microscopic version of the Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel (CDCC) method is used to investigate $^{6}$He scattering on $^{27}$Al, $^{58}$Ni, $^{120}$Sn, and $^{208}$Pb at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The $^{6}$He nucleus is described by an antisymmetric 6-nucleon wave function, defined in the Resonating Group Method. The $^{6}$He continuum is simulated by square-integrable positive-energy states. The model is based only on well known nucleon-target potentials, and is therefore does not depend on any adjustable parameter. I show that experimental elastic cross sections are fairl…
