Recently, machine learning (ML) techniques have led to a range of numerous developments in the field of nuclear and high-energy physics. In heavy-ion collisions, the impact parameter of a collision is one of the crucial observables which has a significant impact on the final state particle production. However, calculation of such a quantity is nearly impossible in experiments as the length scale ranges in the level of a few fermi. In this work, we implement the ML-based regression technique via Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) to obtain a prediction of impact parameter in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model. In addition, we predict an event shape observable, transverse spherocity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV using AMPT and PYTHIA8 based on Angantyr model. After a successful implementation in small collision systems, the use of transverse spherocity in heavy-ion collisions has potential to reveal new results from heavy-ion collisions where the production of a QGP medium is already established. We predict the centrality dependent spherocity distributions from the training of minimum bias simulated data and it was found that the predictions from BDT based ML technique match with true simulated data. In the absence of experimental measurements, we propose to implement Machine learning based regression technique to obtain transverse spherocity from the known final state observables in heavy-ion collisions.
Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable having a very unique capability to separate the events based on their geometrical shapes. Recent results from experiments at the LHC suggest that transverse spherocity is an important event classifier in small collision systems. In this work, we use transverse spherocity for the first time in heavy-ion collisions and perform an extensive study on azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles produced in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT). The azimuthal anisotropy is estimated using the 2-…
One of the event shape observables, the transverse spherocity ($S_0$), has been studied successfully in small collision systems such as proton-proton collisions at the LHC as a tool to separate jetty and isotropic events. It has a unique capability to distinguish events based on their geometrical shapes. In this work, we report the first implementation of transverse spherocity in heavy-ion collisions using a multi-phase transport model (AMPT). We have performed an extensive study of azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles produced in heavy-ion collisions as a function of transverse spherocit…
Transverse spherocity, an event shape observable, has a very unique capability to separate the events based on their geometrical shape, i.e. jetty and isotropic. In this work, we use transverse spherocity for the first time in heavy-ion collisions using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT). We obtain the transverse momentum spectra, integrated yield, mean transverse momentum and azimuthal anisotropy for identified particles in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.44$ TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV. The indication of collectivity in heavy-ion collisions can b…
Resonances are sensitive to the properties of the medium created in heavy ion collision. They also provide insight into the properties of the hadronic phase. Studying the dependence of the yield of resonances on transverse spherocity and multiplicity allows us to understand the resonance production mechanism with event topology and system size, respectively. The results reported pertains to Λ(1520) . The data from EPOS3 is used for the present analysis.
Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable, which separates the events based on their geometrical shapes. In this work, we use transverse spherocity to study the identified light flavor production in heavy-ion collisions using A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model. We obtain the elliptic flow coefficients for pions, kaons and protons in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV as a function of transverse spherocity and collision centrality. Also, we study the number of constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling of elliptic flow which interprets the dominance of the quark degrees of free…

Transverse Spherocity is an event structure variable which provide an effective way to disentangle the data into hard and soft components of the processes corresponding to events with small and large numbers of multi-parton interactions (MPI), respectively. Recent experimental results in small systems from the LHC suggest the importacnce of transverse spherocity variable in the classification of the events. In this contribution, we have studied the dynamics of identified particle production in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT) and the rec…
Machine learning techniques have been quite popular recently in the high-energy physics community and have led to numerous developments in this field. In heavy-ion collisions, one of the crucial observables, the impact parameter, plays an important role in the final-state particle production. This being extremely small (i.e. of the order of a few fermi), it is almost impossible to measure impact parameter in experiments. In this work, we implement the ML-based regression technique via Gradient Boosting Decision Trees (GBDT) to obtain a prediction of impact parameter in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sq…
Recent observations of QGP-like conditions in high-multiplicity pp collisions from ALICE experiment at the LHC warrants an introspection whether to use pp collisions as a baseline measurement to characterize heavy-ion collisions for possible formation of a Quark-Gluon Plasma. A double differential study of the particle spectra and thermodynamics of the produced system as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity in pp collisions would shed light into the underlying event dynamics. Transverse spherocity, one of the event shape observables, allows to separate the even…
The pp collisions have been studied for a long time, however, there are still some effects which are not completely understood, such as the long range angular correlations and the flow patterns in high multiplicity events, which were recently discovered at the LHC. In a recent work it was demonstrated that in Pythia 8, multi-parton interactions and color reconnection can give some of the observed effects similar to the collective flow well known from heavy-ion collisions. Now using the same model, a study based on mid-rapidity charged hadron transverse spherocity is presented. The main purpose…
We investigate the effects of nonequilibrium dynamics in small colliding systems by comparing a nonequilibrium transport approach, the Parton-Hadron-String-Dynamics (PHSD), with a (2+1)D viscous hydrodynamic model, VISHNew. Focusing on p+Pb collisions at LHC energy, we extract the initial conditions for the hydrodynamic model from PHSD, in order to reduce the impact of the early out-of-equilibrium dynamics and focus on the traces of nonequilibiurm in the ensuing medium evolution. We find that in the transport approach quantities like energy density and bulk viscous pressure are highly inhomoge…
High-multiplicity pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies have created special importance in view of the Underlying Event (UE) observables. The recent results of LHC, such as long range angular correlation, flow-like patterns, strangeness enhancement etc. in high multiplicity events are not yet completely understood. In the same direction, the understanding of multiplicity dependence of J/$ψ$ production is highly necessary. Transverse spherocity, which is an event shape variable, helps to investigate the particle production by isolating the hard and the soft components. In th…
Multiplicity and Transverse Spherocity dependence of $\langle p_{\rm T} \rangle$ fluctuations of charged particles in p$-$p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 13 TeV
Heavy-flavored hadrons are unique probes to study the properties of hot and dense QCD medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Transverse spherocity is one of the event-topology variables used to separate jetty and isotropic events from the pool of event samples. This study aims to understand the production dynamics of heavy-flavors through the transverse momentum spectra, double differential yield and mean transverse momentum of J/$ψ$, $\rm D^{0}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}$ as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity. Further to investi…
Particle production and event topology are very strongly correlated in high-energy hadronic and nuclear collisions. Event topology is decided by the underlying particle production dynamics and medium effects. Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable, which has been used in pp and heavy-ion collisions to separate the events based on their geometrical shapes. It has the unique capability to distinguish between jetty and isotropic events. In this work, we have implemented transverse spherocity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMP…
Probing initial geometrical anisotropy and final azimuthal anisotropy in heavy-ion collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies through event-shape engineering
The event-shape and multiplicity dependence of the chemical freeze-out temperature ($T_{\text{ch}}$), freeze-out radius ($R$), and strangeness saturation factor ($γ_{s}$) are obtained by studying the particle yields from the PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the centre-of-mass $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. Spherocity is one of the transverse event-shape techniques to distinguish jetty and isotropic events in high-energy collisions and helps in looking into various observables in a more differential manner. In this study, spherocity~classes are divided into three ca…
Small system collectivity observed at the LHC energies along with enhancement of strangeness makes high-multiplicity proton+proton (pp) collisions very interesting in order to look for QGP-like features, usually found in heavy-ion collisions. It may be interesting to perform a double differential study of different observables in pp collisions in terms of charged particle multiplicity and event shape in order to understand the new dimensions in high-multiplicity pp physics. We study the correlation between the number of multi-partonic interactions (nMPI), event shape (transverse spherocity) an…

We present a study of the transverse momentum spectra and their evolution in function of the position of the azimuthal of the particles associated to the leading particle. Additionally, the behavior of the spherocity distribution in the same azimuthal bins is reported. The studies were made using proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV using PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator. The Multiplicity and midrapidity transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons have been analyzed in the non-extensive statistical framework. The results on the findings corresponding to the Underlying Event ar…
The measurement of Single Transverse-Spin Asymmetries, $A_N$, for various quarkonium states and Drell-Yan lepton pairs can shed light on the orbital angular momentum of quarks and gluons, a fundamental ingredient of the proton-spin puzzle. The AFTER@LHC proposal combines a unique kinematic coverage and large luminosities thanks to the Large Hadron Collider beams to deliver precise measurements, complementary to the knowledge provided by collider experiments such as at RHIC. In this paper, we report on sensitivity studies for $J/ψ$, $Υ$ and Drell-Yan $A_N$ done using the performance of LHCb-lik…
We investigate the potentialities offered by the study of J/psi exclusive photo-production in ultra-peripheral collisions at a fixed-target experiment using the proton and lead LHC beams (generically denoted as AFTER@LHC) on hydrogen targets and at RHIC in the collider mode. We compare the expected counting rates in both set-ups. Studying Single-Transverse-Spin Asymmetries (A_N) in such a process provides a direct path to the proton Generalised Parton Distribution (GPD) E_g(x,xi,t). We evaluate the expected precision on A_N for realistic conditions with the LHCb detector in pH(pol) and PbH(pol…
The rapidity dependent transverse momentum spectra of heavy quarkonia (J/psi and Upsilon mesons) produced in small collision systems such as proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at center-of-mass energy (per nucleon pair) 5-13 TeV are described by a two-component statistical model which is based on the Tsallis statistics and inverse power-law. The experimental data measured by the LHCb Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are well fitted by the model results. The related parameters are obtained and the dependences of parameters on rapidity are analyzed.
We discuss the potential of AFTER@LHC to measure single-transverse-spin asymmetries in open-charm and bottomonium production. With a HERMES-like hydrogen polarised target, such measurements over a year can reach precisions close to the per cent level. This is particularly remarkable since these analyses can probably not be carried out anywhere else
The study of a quasi back-to-back isolated pair made of a heavy quarkonium, such as a J/psi or a Upsilon, and a photon produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, is probably the optimal way to get right away a first experimental determination of two gluon transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs) in an unpolarized proton, f1^g and h1^perp,g the latter giving the distribution of linearly polarized gluons. To substantiate this, we calculate the transverse-momentum-dependent effects that arise in the process under study and discuss the feasibility of their measurements.
High precision data of lepton angular distributions for $γ^*/Z$ production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC, covering broad ranges of dilepton transverse momenta ($q_T$) and rapidity ($y$), were recently reported. Strong $q_T$ dependencies were observed for several angular distribution coefficients, $A_i$, including $A_0 - A_4$. Significant $y$ dependencies were also found for the coefficients $A_1$, $A_3$ and $A_4$, while $A_0$ and $A_2$ exhibit very weak rapidity dependence. Using an intuitive geometric picture we show that the $q_T$ and $y$ dependencies of the angular distributions coefficient…
We present results and predictions for the nuclear modification of the differential cross sections for inclusive light hadron and prompt photon production in minimum bias d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV and minimum bias p+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5$ TeV at RHIC and LHC, respectively. Our calculations combine the leading order perturbative QCD formalism with cold nuclear matter effects that arise from the elastic, inelastic and coherent multiple scattering of partons in large nuclei. We find that a theoretical approach that includes the isospin effect, Cronin effect, cold nuclear ma…
We have studied the transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectra of the final-state strange particles, including $K^{\pm}$, $ϕ$, $\itΞ$, and $\itΩ$, produced in high energy lead-lead (Pb-Pb), proton-lead ($p$-Pb), xenon-xenon (Xe-Xe) collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Taking into account the contribution of multi-quark composition, whose probability density distribution is described by the modified Tsallis-Pareto-type function, we simulate the $p_T$ spectra of the final-state strange particles by a Monte Carlo method, which is shown to be in good agreement with the experimental data in most…
In the framework of a multi-source thermal model at the partonic-level, we have analyzed transverse momentum spectra of hadrons measured by the ALICE Collaboration in proton-proton ($pp$ or $p$-$p$) collisions at the center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ and 13 TeV, proton-lead ($p$-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV, and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. For meson(baryon), the contributions of two(three) constituent quarks are considered, in which each quark contributes to hadron transverse momentum to obey the revised phenomenological Tsallis transvers…
Transverse momentum broadening of a parton propagating through a large nucleus is evaluated in the color dipole approach using different models for the dipole cross section or unintegrated gluon distribution, which lead to different values of the coefficient $C_{\mathcal{F}}(0,s)$. Numerical calculations are compared to data extracted from LHCb and ALICE experiments for nuclear broadening of $J/ψ$. We find that different models which describe the small-$x$ data predict values of $Δp_T^2$ that agree reasonably well with experiment, specially for forward rapidity. The centrality dependence was a…
We briefly review the existing psi(2S) data taken at RHIC, the Tevatron and the LHC. We systematically compare them with colour-singlet-model predictions as a function of the center-of-mass energy, of the quarkonium rapidity and of the quarkonium transverse momentum. The overall agreement is good except for large transverse momenta. This points at the existence of large NNLO corrections or points at colour-octet dominance.
From Pythia simulations of pp collisions we determine the mean transverse momentum <Pt> of partons producing the leading and associated particles studied in di-hadron correlations. The dependence of <Pt> on the associated particle transverse momentum and expected differences at RHIC and LHC centre of mass energies are discussed.
We study the charged particle and transverse energy production mechanism from AGS, SPS, RHIC to LHC energies in the framework of nucleon and quark participants. At RHIC and LHC energies, the number of nucleons-normalized charged particle and transverse energy density in pseudorapidity, which shows a monotonic rise with centrality, turns out to be an almost centrality independent scaling behaviour when normalized to the number of participant quarks. A universal function which is a combination of logarithmic and power-law, describes well the charged particle and transverse energy production both…
An overview is presented of transverse momentum distributions of particles at the LHC using the Tsallis distribution. The use of a thermodynamically consistent form of this distribution leads to an excellent description of charged and identified particles. The values of the Tsallis parameter q are truly remarkably consistent.
The transverse momentum spectra of final-state light flavor particles produced in proton-proton (p-p), copper-copper (Cu-Cu), gold-gold (Au-Au), lead-lead (Pb-Pb), and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions for different centralities at relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) and large hadron collider (LHC) energies are studied in the framework of a multisource thermal model. The experimental data measured by the STAR, CMS, and ALICE Collaborations are consistent with the results calculated by the multi-component Erlang distribution and Tsallis Statistics. The effective temperature and real temperature …
The parton densities of the proton are of fundamental importance not only for our description of hadronic and nuclear structure, but also for reliable predictions for new heavy particle searches at colliders. At the large partonic momentum fractions required for the production of these particles, the parton distribution functions, in particular the one of the gluon, are unfortunately still badly constrained. In this paper, we investigate the possibility to improve on their determination with new data coming from electroweak vector boson production at large transverse momenta at the LHC with ce…
We consider transverse-momentum resummation for top-quark pair production in hadron collisions. At small transverse momenta of the top-quark pair, the logarithmically-enhanced QCD contributions are resummed to all orders up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. At intermediate and large values of transverse momenta, the resummation is consistently combined with the complete result at fixed perturbative order. We present numerical results for the transverse-momentum distribution of top-quark pairs at LHC energies. We perform a detailed study of the scale dependence of the results to estimate…
We compute the particle multiplicities and transverse energies at central and nearly central AA collisions at RHIC and LHC. The initial state is computed from perturbative QCD supplemented by the conjecture of saturation of produced partons. The expansion stage is described in terms of hydrodynamics assuming longitudinal boost invariance and azimuthal symmetry. Transverse flow effects, a realistic list of hadrons and resonance decays are included. Comparison with the data of the multiplicities at $\sqrt s=56$ AGeV and 130 AGeV from RHIC is done and predictions for the full RHIC energy and LHC …
The production of $D$-mesons in high-energy $pp$ collisions at the LHC kinematic regime is analyzed with the dipole approach in the momentum representation. We present predictions for the $D$-meson differential cross section in terms of the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions taking into account the nonlinear behavior of the QCD dynamics. Comparison between our results and the corresponding experimental measurements reported by the ALICE and LHCb Collaborations in different rapidity bins is performed. We show that the $D$-meson production in the high energy limit can be properly add…
We argue that the study of heavy quarkonia, in particular that of $Υ$, produced back-to-back with an isolated photon in $pp$ collisions at the LHC is the best --and currently unique-- way to access the distribution of both the transverse momentum and the polarization of the gluon in an unpolarized proton. These encode fundamental information on the dynamics of QCD. We have derived analytical expressions for various transverse-momentum distributions which can be measured at the LHC and which allow for a direct extraction of the aforementioned quantities. To assess the feasibility of such measur…
We show that in proton-lead (p+Pb) collisions at the LHC, the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) and hydrodynamics lead to qualitatively different behavior of the average transverse momentum, <p_T>, with the particles rapidity. In hydrodynamics, the <p_T> decreases as one goes from zero rapidity, y=0, to the proton fragmentation region since the number of particles decreases. In contrast, in the CGC the saturation momentum increases as one goes from y=0 to the proton fragmentation region, and so the <p_T> increases. At the LHC, the difference between the two models may be large enough to be tested e…
The question of naturalness of the Standard Model (SM) has been a hot topic since the discovery that the Higgs boson has a relatively light mass. It has been pointed out in the past that the mass of a scalar boson can be destabilized by loop corrections. Many theories have been proposed beyond the SM to address this problem. It is possible that such mechanisms contribute to the running of the Higgs mass with the energy scale. We present predictions for the precision of the Higgs mass measurement up to a Higgs boson transverse momentum of 1 TeV for the LHC in Run 3 with a luminosity of 300 fb-1…
We study the soft gluon radiation effects for the $s$-channel single top quark production at the LHC. By applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism, the large logarithms about the small total transverse momentum ($q_\perp$) of the single-top plus one-jet final state system, are resummed to all orders in the expansion of the strong interaction coupling at the accuracy of Next-to-Leading Logarithm (NLL). We compare our numerical results with PYTHIA and find that both the $q_\perp$ and $ϕ^*$ observables from PYTHIA are consistent with our prediction. Furthermore, we point …
In order to characterize the transverse momentum spectra of positive pions measured in the ALICE experiment, two thermal approaches are utilized; one is based on degeneracy of non-perfect Bose-Einstein gas and the other imposes an {\it ad-hoc} finite pion-chemical potential. The inclusion of missing haron states and the out-of-chemical equilibrium greatly contribute to the excellent characterization of pion production. The excellent reproduction of the experimental data can be understood as a manifestation of not-yet-regarded anomalous pion-production, which likely contribute to the long-stand…
We study how the significance of top quark induced charge asymmetries at the LHC may be enhanced exploiting the $t\bar t$ total transverse momentum to enrich the fraction of quark fusion events in the sample. We combine this variable with previous variables related to the boost and the invariant mass of the $t\bar t$ pair to find an optimum cut which maximizes the significance of the asymmetry when systematic and statistic errors are taken into account. We find that including the $t\bar t$ transverse momentum in the analysis of the expected 2012 LHC data provides a considerable enhancement in …
The transverse momentum distributions of various hadrons produced in most central Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energy Root(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV have been studied using our earlier proposed unified statistical thermal freeze-out model. The calculated results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data measured by the ALICE experiment. The model calculation fits provide the thermal freeze-out conditions in terms of the temperature and collective flow effect parameters for different particle species. Interestingly the model parameter fits reveal a strong collective flow in the system whic…
We discuss the parton branching (PB) evolution equation for transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs), especially we concentrate on the angular ordering constrain and its effect on the TMD distributions. We discuss application of the PB TMDs to precise prediction of Drell-Yan transverse momentum spectrum at LHC, stressing the role of angular ordering in the low transverse momentum region. We compare the PB implementation of the angular ordering condition with the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin-Watt (KMRW), both at the analytical and numerical level.
This document summarises the proposal of the LHC Dark Matter Working Group on how to present LHC results on $s$-channel simplified dark matter models and to compare them to direct (indirect) detection experiments.
