The pp collisions have been studied for a long time, however, there are still some effects which are not completely understood, such as the long range angular correlations and the flow patterns in high multiplicity events, which were recently discovered at the LHC. In a recent work it was demonstrated that in Pythia 8, multi-parton interactions and color reconnection can give some of the observed effects similar to the collective flow well known from heavy-ion collisions. Now using the same model, a study based on mid-rapidity charged hadron transverse spherocity is presented. The main purpose of this work is to show that a differential study combining multiplicity and event shapes opens the possibility to understand better the features of data, specially at high multiplicity.
The Fragmentation Functions is one of the non-perturbative components of the QCD factorization theorem. They represents the probability of a parton carrying a fraction z of momentum to form into a particular kind of hadron. In this work, we study the jet fragmentation functions in the collisions between electrons and positrons. The jets where identified with Fastjet for different p_{Tch jet} intervals. The intervals and the final jets were reconstructed by means of the event shape T separation using spherocity variable, the study is performed under Pythia Monte Carlo event generator framework.
Transverse Spherocity is an event structure variable which provide an effective way to disentangle the data into hard and soft components of the processes corresponding to events with small and large numbers of multi-parton interactions (MPI), respectively. Recent experimental results in small systems from the LHC suggest the importacnce of transverse spherocity variable in the classification of the events. In this contribution, we have studied the dynamics of identified particle production in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT) and the rec…
Recent observations of QGP-like conditions in high-multiplicity pp collisions from ALICE experiment at the LHC warrants an introspection whether to use pp collisions as a baseline measurement to characterize heavy-ion collisions for possible formation of a Quark-Gluon Plasma. A double differential study of the particle spectra and thermodynamics of the produced system as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity in pp collisions would shed light into the underlying event dynamics. Transverse spherocity, one of the event shape observables, allows to separate the even…
The event-shape and multiplicity dependence of the chemical freeze-out temperature ($T_{\text{ch}}$), freeze-out radius ($R$), and strangeness saturation factor ($γ_{s}$) are obtained by studying the particle yields from the PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the centre-of-mass $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. Spherocity is one of the transverse event-shape techniques to distinguish jetty and isotropic events in high-energy collisions and helps in looking into various observables in a more differential manner. In this study, spherocity~classes are divided into three ca…
Heavy-flavored hadrons are unique probes to study the properties of hot and dense QCD medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Transverse spherocity is one of the event-topology variables used to separate jetty and isotropic events from the pool of event samples. This study aims to understand the production dynamics of heavy-flavors through the transverse momentum spectra, double differential yield and mean transverse momentum of J/$ψ$, $\rm D^{0}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}$ as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity. Further to investi…
High-multiplicity pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies have created special importance in view of the Underlying Event (UE) observables. The recent results of LHC, such as long range angular correlation, flow-like patterns, strangeness enhancement etc. in high multiplicity events are not yet completely understood. In the same direction, the understanding of multiplicity dependence of J/$ψ$ production is highly necessary. Transverse spherocity, which is an event shape variable, helps to investigate the particle production by isolating the hard and the soft components. In th…
Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable having a very unique capability to separate the events based on their geometrical shapes. Recent results from experiments at the LHC suggest that transverse spherocity is an important event classifier in small collision systems. In this work, we use transverse spherocity for the first time in heavy-ion collisions and perform an extensive study on azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles produced in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT). The azimuthal anisotropy is estimated using the 2-…

Multiplicity and Transverse Spherocity dependence of $\langle p_{\rm T} \rangle$ fluctuations of charged particles in p$-$p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 13 TeV
Small system collectivity observed at the LHC energies along with enhancement of strangeness makes high-multiplicity proton+proton (pp) collisions very interesting in order to look for QGP-like features, usually found in heavy-ion collisions. It may be interesting to perform a double differential study of different observables in pp collisions in terms of charged particle multiplicity and event shape in order to understand the new dimensions in high-multiplicity pp physics. We study the correlation between the number of multi-partonic interactions (nMPI), event shape (transverse spherocity) an…
Recently, machine learning (ML) techniques have led to a range of numerous developments in the field of nuclear and high-energy physics. In heavy-ion collisions, the impact parameter of a collision is one of the crucial observables which has a significant impact on the final state particle production. However, calculation of such a quantity is nearly impossible in experiments as the length scale ranges in the level of a few fermi. In this work, we implement the ML-based regression technique via Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) to obtain a prediction of impact parameter in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt…
The new framework for the simulations of hard diffractive events in photoproduction within Pythia 8 is presented. The model, originally introduced for proton-proton collisions, applies the dynamical rapidity gap survival probability based on the multiparton interaction model in Pythia. These additional interactions provide a natural explanation for the observed factorization-breaking effects in hard diffraction by filling up the rapidity gaps used to classify the events of diffractive origin. The generated cross sections are well in line with the existing data from HERA experiments and predict…
We report an underlying event tune for the PYTHIA 8 Monte Carlo event generator that is applicable for hadron collisions primarily at $\sqrt{s}$ ranges available at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). We compare our new PYTHIA 8 tuned predictions to mid-rapidity inclusive $π^{\pm}$ spectra, jet sub-structure, Drell-Yan production, and underlying event measurements from RHIC and the Tevatron, as well as underlying event data from the Large Hadron Collider. With respect to the default PYTHIA 8 Monash Tune, the new `Detroit' tune shows significant improvements in the description of the ex…
Forward-backward correlation strength ($b$) as a function of pesudorapidity intervals for experimental data from $p+\bar{p}$ non-singly diffractive collisions are compared to PYTHIA and PHOJET model calculations. The correlations are discussed as a function of rapidity window ($Δη$) symmetric about the central rapidity as well as rapidity window separated by a gap ($η_{gap}$) between forward and backward regions. While the correlations are observed to be independent of $Δη$, it is found to decrease with increase in $η_{gap}$. This reflects the role of short range correlations and justifies the…
We present a study of the transverse momentum spectra and their evolution in function of the position of the azimuthal of the particles associated to the leading particle. Additionally, the behavior of the spherocity distribution in the same azimuthal bins is reported. The studies were made using proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV using PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator. The Multiplicity and midrapidity transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons have been analyzed in the non-extensive statistical framework. The results on the findings corresponding to the Underlying Event ar…
The exchange of electroweak gauginos in the $t-$ or $u-$channel allows squark pair production at hadron colliders without color exchange between the squarks. This can give rise to events where little or no energy is deposited in the detector between the squark decay products. We discuss the potential for detection of such rapidity gap events at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Our numerical analysis is divided into two parts. First, we evaluate in a simplified framework the rapidity gap signal at the parton level. The second part covers an analysis with full event simulation using PYTHIA as we…
Recent ALICE data for the multiplicity distributions in the central rapidity bins at LHC energies are compared with the results from two default versions of the PYTHIA 8 generator. We find that, contrary to the earlier versions of PYTHIA, the model overestimates the increase of average multiplicity with energy. Tuning two of the model parameters one obtains reasonable agreement with data. The dependence of the normalized moments of the distribution on the rapidity bin width and on energy is also qualitatively correct.
We discuss the process of colour-singlet parton-parton scattering, which in hadron-hadron collision can lead to production of jet events, where a rapidity gap between the jets is present. The dynamics of the process is calculated within LL BFKL approximation. Using Pythia MC generator, hadronic shapes of jet-gap-jet events are studied, in particular the distributions of the rapidity gap size resulting from the jet formation processes. Using Pythia's modelling of multiple parton interactions, the rescattering effects are simulated. It is shown how these effects influence the gap size distributi…

Probing strangeness with event topology classifiers in pp collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with the rope hadronization mechanism in PYTHIA
We present predictions of single inclusive jet transverse momentum, energy, and Feynman-$x$ spectra at forward rapidity ($5.2 < y < 6.6$) in proton-proton collisions with $\sqrt{s} = 7$ and 13 TeV. Calculations based on high-energy factorization and $k_T$-dependent parton densities are compared to simulations using the \pythia\ event generator. Effects from parton density evolution, parton shower dynamics, multi-parton interactions, and saturation of parton densities are investigated.
We propose and carry a detailed study of an observable sensitive to different mechanisms of minijet production. The class of observables measures how the transverse momenta of hadrons produced in association with various trigger objects are balanced as a function of rapidity. It is shown that the observables are sensitive to the model parameters relevant to the minijet production mechanisms: low-$p_{\rm T}$ cut-off regulating jet cross-section, transverse distribution of partons in protons, and parton distribution functions. We perform our test at different charge-particle multiplicities and c…
We discuss an application of dynamical multi-parton interaction model, tuned to measurements of underlying event topology, for a description of destroying rapidity gaps in the jet-gap-jet processes at the LHC. We concentrate on the dynamical origin of the mechanism of destroying the rapidity gap. The cross section for jet-gap-jet is calculated within LL BFKL approximation. We discuss the topology of final states without and with the MPI effects. We discuss some examples of selected kinematical situations (fixed jet rapidities and transverse momenta) as distributions averaged over the dynamics …
We present an analysis with full event simulation using PYTHIA as well as Herwig++, but without detector simulation. We analyze the transverse energy deposited between the jets from squark decay, as well as the probabili…

We report the multiplicity dependence of charged particle productions for $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$, $\overline{p}$ and $ϕ$ meson at $|y| < 1.0$ in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{\rm s}$ = 200 GeV with $\rm PYTHIA$ simulation. The impact of parton multiple interactions and gluon contributions is studied and found to be possible sources of the particle yields splitting as a function of $p_T$ with respect to multiplicity. No obvious particle species dependence for the splitting is observed. The multiplicity dependence on ratios of $K^-/π^-$, $K^+/π^+$, $\overline{p}/π^-$, $p/π^+$ and $Λ/K^{0}_{s}$ in …
A study of prompt and non-prompt J/$ψ$ production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in inelastic proton--proton (pp) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV based on calculations using the PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo is reported. Recent experimental data shows an intriguing stronger-than-linear increase of the self-normalized J/$ψ$ yield with multiplicity; several models, based on initial or final state effects, have been able to describe the observed behaviour. In this paper, the microscopic reasons for this behaviour, like the role of multiple parton interactions, c…
We discuss hadron production in the forward rapidity region in ultraperipheral proton-lead collisions at the LHC and proton-gold collisions at RHIC. Our discussion is based on the Monte Carlo simulations of the interactions of virtual photons emitted by a fast moving nucleus with a proton beam. We simulate the virtual photon flux with the STARLIGHT event generator and then particle production with the SOPHIA, DPMJET, and PYTHIA event generators. We show the rapidity distributions of charged and neutral particles, and the momentum distributions of neutral pions and neutrons at forward rapiditie…
$J/ψ$ observables of p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 200 GeV and 2.76 TeV are calculated using the PYTHIA event generator for the production of $c$ and $\bar c$ and the Wigner density formalism. The charm quark momentum from PYTHIA is tuned in such a way that the transverse momentum and rapidity distribution correspond to the Fixed-Order Next-to-Leading Logarithm (FONLL) calculations and hence to the experimental data for open charm mesons. Using the Wigner density of the charmonium wave function we calculate for each charm quark pair the probability to form a charmonium. As a result, the experi…

We calculate the cross section for $p p \to W^{+} W^-$ in the recently developed $k_{\rm T}$-factorisation approach, including transverse momenta of the virtual photons. We focus on processes with single and double proton dissociation. First we discuss the gap survival on the parton level as due to the emission of extra jet. Both the role of valence and sea contributions is discussed. The hadronisation of proton remnants is performed with {PYTHIA 8} string fragmentation model, assuming a simple quark-diquark model for proton. Highly excited remnant systems hadronise producing particles that ca…
We study rapidity gaps between jets in ppbar collisions at the Tevatron by a novel solution of the nonforward BFKL equation including nonleading effects through the consistency constraint and running coupling. Results differ from earlier calculations based on the asymptotic Mueller-Tang formula, but agree with D0 data when including full event simulation using PYTHIA to model the gap survival probability.
A dynamically constrained coalescence model based on the phase space quantization and classical limit method was proposed to investigate the production of light nuclei (anti-nuclei) in non-single diffractive (NSD) pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 14 TeV. This calculation was based on the final hadronic state in the PYTHIA and PACIAE model simulations, the event sample consisted of 1.2$\times 10^8$ events in both simulations. The PACIAE model calculated $\bar D$ yield of 6.247$\times 10^{-5}$ in NSD pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV is well comparing with the ALICE rough datum of 5.456$\times …
Multi-Parton Interactions (MPI) in pp collisions have attracted the attention of the heavy-ion community since they can help to elucidate the origin of collective-like effects discovered in small collision systems at the LHC. In this work, we report that in PYTHIA 8.244, the charged-particle production in events with a large number of MPI (${\rm N}_{\rm mpi}$) normalized to that obtained in minimum-bias pp collisions shows interesting features. After the normalization to the corresponding $\langle {\rm N}_{\rm mpi} \rangle$, the ratios as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ exhibit a bump at $p_{\rm T}\…
We report measurements of large-scale two-particle correlations for 200 GeV p-p collisions on momentum components transverse rapidity $y_t$ (pion mass assigned), pseudorapidity $η$ and azimuth angle $ϕ$. In both transverse $y_t \otimes y_t$ and axial $(η\otimesη,ϕ\otimesϕ) $ two-particle subspaces we observe two components of correlation structure (soft and hard) which we interpret respectively in terms of longitudinal string fragmentation and transverse minimum-bias parton fragmentation (minijets). This combination is also represented by Lund-model-based Monte Carlo simulations such as Pythia…
We study the hadron production in $p+p$, $p+n$ and $n+n$ reactions within the microscopic Parton-Hadron-Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach in comparison to PYTHIA 8.2. We discuss the details of the "PHSD tune" of the Lund string model (realized by event generators FRITIOF and PYTHIA) in the vacuum (as in $N+N$ collisions) as well as its in-medium modifications relevant for heavy-ion collisions where a hot and dense matter is produced. We compare the results of PHSD and PYTHIA 8.2 (default version) for the excitation function of hadron multiplicities as well as differential rapidity $y$, transv…
The possibility of proton acceleration to very high energies in astrophysical sources may have unique observational consequences. In particular, the decay of secondary mesons created in the interaction of energetic protons with photons or nucleons gives rise to high-energy gamma rays and neutrinos with potentially observable fluxes. Recently, there has been considerable interest in the parameterization of the energy spectra of these secondaries. Less attention has been paid to the angular distributions, which may have an important effect on observational quantities and are required to address …
Color reconnection (CR) mechanism in PYTHIA model has been reported to be essential to describe the flow-like collective effect observed in high multiplicity $p$+$p$ and $p$+Pb collisions. In this work, we test this mechanism towards explaining the Forward-Backward multiplicity correlation (b$_{\mathrm {cor}}$) measurements in $p$+$p$ collisions at the LHC energies. Out of the three different CR schemes implemented in PYTHIA, (a) MPI based CR (default mechanism), (b) QCD based CR and (c) Gluon moved CR, we found that the QCD based CR scheme describes relatively better the ALICE measurements of…
Motivated by recent discoveries of flow-like effects in pp collisions, and noting that multiple string systems can form and hadronize simultaneously in such collisions, we develop a simple model for the repulsive interaction between two Lund strings with a positive (colour-oriented) overlap in rapidity. The model is formulated in momentum space and is based on a postulate of a constant net transverse momentum being acquired per unit of overlap along a common rapidity direction. To conserve energy, the strings shrink in the longitudinal direction, essentially converting a portion of the string …
In this work, we propose a tool to reveal the origin of the collective-like phenomena observed in proton--proton collisions. We exploit the fundamental difference between the underlying mechanisms, color reconnection (CR) and hydrodynamics, which produce radial flow patterns in \textsc{Pythia}~8 and \textsc{Epos}~3, respectively. Specifically, we proceed by examining the strength of the coupling between the soft and hard components which, by construction, is larger in \textsc{Pythia}~8 than in \textsc{Epos}~3. We study the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) distributions of charged pions, kaons…
Analysis of the charged multiplicity in proton-proton inelastic interactions at the LHC energies in the setting of Dual Parton Model is presented. Data from the CMS experiment and the data simulated at different energies in various pseudo-rapidity windows using the event generator PYTHIA8are analysed and compared with the calculations from the model. Each inelastic scattering is assumed to follow the Poisson distribution. The theoretical Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling of the multiplicity distributions is studied and compared with previously published experimental results at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9…
Multiple-parton interactions play a vital role in hadron-hadron collisions. This paper presents a study of the multiple-parton interactions with simulated Z + jets events in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The events are simulated with POWHEG followed by hadronization and parton-showering using PYTHIA 8. The events with dimuon invariant mass in the range of 60--120 GeV are selected for the analysis. The charged particle jets, having minimum transverse momentum of 5 GeV and absolute pseudo-rapidity less than 2, are used to construct the observables for measurement…
A large anti-correlation signal between elliptic flow $v_2$ and average transverse momentum $[p_{\mathrm{T}}]$ was recently measured in small collision systems, consistent with a final-state hydrodynamic response to the initial geometry. This negative $v_2$-$[p_{\mathrm{T}}]$ correlation was predicted to change to positive correlation for events with very small charged particle multiplicity $N_{\mathrm{ch}}$ due to initial-state momentum anisotropies of the gluon saturation effects. However, the role of non-flow correlations is expected to be important in these systems, which is not yet studie…
In this work, a study of the average transverse momentum (pt) as a function of the mid-rapidity charged hadron multiplicity (Nch) and hadron mass (m) in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is presented. For the events producing low Nch, the average pt is found to scale with the reduced hadron mass, i.e., mass divided by the number of quark constituents (m/nq), this scaling also holds for inelastic pp collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. The scaling is broken in high multiplicity p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions, where, for <Nch/deta> < 60 the average pt is higher for baryons than that for meson…
