Transverse spherocity, an event shape observable, has a very unique capability to separate the events based on their geometrical shape, i.e. jetty and isotropic. In this work, we use transverse spherocity for the first time in heavy-ion collisions using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMPT). We obtain the transverse momentum spectra, integrated yield, mean transverse momentum and azimuthal anisotropy for identified particles in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.44$ TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV. The indication of collectivity in heavy-ion collisions can be clearly seen while comparing the transverse momentum spectra from jetty and isotropic events. The elliptic flow as a function of transverse spherocity shows that the isotropic events have nearly zero elliptic flow and the elliptic flow is mostly dominated by the jetty events. This study will pave a way to focus on jetty events in heavy-ion collisions in order to investigate jet medium modification and jet hadro-chemistry in a sophisticated manner.
Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable, which separates the events based on their geometrical shapes. In this work, we use transverse spherocity to study the identified light flavor production in heavy-ion collisions using A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model. We obtain the elliptic flow coefficients for pions, kaons and protons in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV as a function of transverse spherocity and collision centrality. Also, we study the number of constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling of elliptic flow which interprets the dominance of the quark degrees of free…
The pp collisions have been studied for a long time, however, there are still some effects which are not completely understood, such as the long range angular correlations and the flow patterns in high multiplicity events, which were recently discovered at the LHC. In a recent work it was demonstrated that in Pythia 8, multi-parton interactions and color reconnection can give some of the observed effects similar to the collective flow well known from heavy-ion collisions. Now using the same model, a study based on mid-rapidity charged hadron transverse spherocity is presented. The main purpose…
Particle production and event topology are very strongly correlated in high-energy hadronic and nuclear collisions. Event topology is decided by the underlying particle production dynamics and medium effects. Transverse spherocity is an event shape observable, which has been used in pp and heavy-ion collisions to separate the events based on their geometrical shapes. It has the unique capability to distinguish between jetty and isotropic events. In this work, we have implemented transverse spherocity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using A Multi-Phase Transport Model (AMP…
Resonances are sensitive to the properties of the medium created in heavy ion collision. They also provide insight into the properties of the hadronic phase. Studying the dependence of the yield of resonances on transverse spherocity and multiplicity allows us to understand the resonance production mechanism with event topology and system size, respectively. The results reported pertains to Λ(1520) . The data from EPOS3 is used for the present analysis.
Probing initial geometrical anisotropy and final azimuthal anisotropy in heavy-ion collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies through event-shape engineering
The event-shape and multiplicity dependence of the chemical freeze-out temperature ($T_{\text{ch}}$), freeze-out radius ($R$), and strangeness saturation factor ($γ_{s}$) are obtained by studying the particle yields from the PYTHIA8 Monte Carlo event generator in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the centre-of-mass $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. Spherocity is one of the transverse event-shape techniques to distinguish jetty and isotropic events in high-energy collisions and helps in looking into various observables in a more differential manner. In this study, spherocity~classes are divided into three ca…
The Fragmentation Functions is one of the non-perturbative components of the QCD factorization theorem. They represents the probability of a parton carrying a fraction z of momentum to form into a particular kind of hadron. In this work, we study the jet fragmentation functions in the collisions between electrons and positrons. The jets where identified with Fastjet for different p_{Tch jet} intervals. The intervals and the final jets were reconstructed by means of the event shape T separation using spherocity variable, the study is performed under Pythia Monte Carlo event generator framework.
We investigate the effects of nonequilibrium dynamics in small colliding systems by comparing a nonequilibrium transport approach, the Parton-Hadron-String-Dynamics (PHSD), with a (2+1)D viscous hydrodynamic model, VISHNew. Focusing on p+Pb collisions at LHC energy, we extract the initial conditions for the hydrodynamic model from PHSD, in order to reduce the impact of the early out-of-equilibrium dynamics and focus on the traces of nonequilibiurm in the ensuing medium evolution. We find that in the transport approach quantities like energy density and bulk viscous pressure are highly inhomoge…
Heavy-flavored hadrons are unique probes to study the properties of hot and dense QCD medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Transverse spherocity is one of the event-topology variables used to separate jetty and isotropic events from the pool of event samples. This study aims to understand the production dynamics of heavy-flavors through the transverse momentum spectra, double differential yield and mean transverse momentum of J/$ψ$, $\rm D^{0}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}$ as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse spherocity. Further to investi…
High-multiplicity pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies have created special importance in view of the Underlying Event (UE) observables. The recent results of LHC, such as long range angular correlation, flow-like patterns, strangeness enhancement etc. in high multiplicity events are not yet completely understood. In the same direction, the understanding of multiplicity dependence of J/$ψ$ production is highly necessary. Transverse spherocity, which is an event shape variable, helps to investigate the particle production by isolating the hard and the soft components. In th…
Hadronic resonances, having very short lifetime, like $\rm{K}^{*0}$, can act as useful probes to understand and estimate lifetime of hadronic phase in ultra-relativistic proton-proton, p--Pb and heavy-ion collisions. Resonances with relatively longer lifetime, like $ϕ$ meson, can serve as a tool to locate the QGP phase boundary. We estimate a lower limit of hadronic phase lifetime in Cu--Cu and Au--Au collisions at RHIC, and in pp, p--Pb and Pb--Pb collisions at different LHC collision energies. Also, we obtain the effective temperature of $ϕ$ meson using Boltzmann-Gibbs Blast-Wave function, w…
The diffractive heavy quark cross sections are estimated considering photon-Pomeron ($γ\pom$) interactions in hadron - hadron at RHIC, Tevatron, and CERN LHC energies. We assume the validity of the hard diffractive factorization and calculate the charm and bottom total cross sections and rapidity distributions using the diffractive parton distribution functions of the Pomeron obtained by the H1 Collaboration at DESY-HERA. Moreover, we compare our predictions with those obtained using the dipole model. We verify that this process is a good test of the different mechanisms for diffractive heavy …
Options for future $lepton-proton,lepton-nucleus,γ-proton,γ-nucleus$ and FEL$γ-nucleus$ colliders are discussed. In the spirit of this content, we consider TESLAxHERA, LEPxLHC, $μ$xTEVATRON, exRHIC, LinacxLHC, $\sqrt{s}=3TeV$ $μp$ and CLIC based colliders.
We argue that gluon saturation effects may be visible in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data. We look at the centrality dependence of the away-side peak of two-particle correlations measured in p-Pb collisions, using both ALICE data at midrapidity, and LHCb data at forward rapidity. Once the collective flow-like signal measured at the near-side peak is removed from the correlation function, the centrality dependence of the away-side peak turns out to be much stronger in the forward region than at midrapidity. We argue that this is a very specific prediction of the saturation framework, and we com…

We use an event-by-event hydrodynamical description of the heavy-ion collision process with Glauber initial conditions to calculate the thermal emission of photons. The photon rates in the hadronic phase follow from a spectral function approach and a density expansion, while in the partonic phase they follow from the AMY perturbative rates. The calculated photon elliptic flows are lower than those reported recently by both the ALICE and PHENIX collaborations.
We present the first full (3+1)D dynamical simulations of ultra-peripheral Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Extrapolating from p+Pb collisions, we explore whether a quasi-real photon $γ^*$ interacting with the lead nucleus in an ultra-peripheral collision can create a many-body system exhibiting fluid behavior. Assuming strong final-state interactions, we provide model results for charged hadron multiplicity, identified particle mean transverse momenta, and charged hadron anisotropic flow coefficients, and compare them with experimental data from the ALICE and ATLAS collaboration…
In these proceedings, we apply the recently developed S-ACOT-MPS factorization scheme at the next-to-leading order to prompt charm production at hadron colliders. It provides a good agreement with experimental data on charm meson production measured by LHCb at 7 and 13 TeV. The low-$p_T$ data are on the margins of the theoretical error bands, emphasizing the importance of including contributions beyond the next-to-leading order.
New facilities for particle and nuclear physics research, which will be available due to constructing the TESLA linear electron-positron collider tangentially to the HERA proton ring, are discussed.
Photoproduction can be studied at hadron colliders by using the virtual photons associated with the hadron beams. The LHC will reach photonucleon energies 10 times higher than that available elsewhere. These reactions are already being studied at RHIC. After introducing photoproduction at hadron colliders, I will discuss recent results from STAR on $ρ^0$, $π^+π^-π^+π^-$ and $e^+e^-$ production.
Identification of charmonium states at hadron colliders has mostly been limited to leptonic decays of the J/ψ. In this paper we present and algorithm to identify hadronic decays of charmonium states (J/ψ, ψ(2S), χ_{c0,1,2}) which make up the large majority of all decays. The algorithm is able to identify hadronic $J/ψ$ decays with an efficiency of 36\% while suppressing a background of quark and gluon jets by a factor 100.
The investigation of lepton-hadron and photon-hadron collisions at TeV scale is crucial both to clarify the strong interaction dynamics from nuclei to quark-parton level and for adequate interpretation of experimental data from future hadron colliders (LHC and VLHC). In this presentation different TeV scale lepton-hadron and photon-hadron collider proposals (such as THERA, LEP-LHC, QCD Explorer etc) are discussed. The advantages of linac-ring type colliders has been shown comparatively.
Rare B hadron decays provide an excellent test bench for the Standard Model and can probe new physics models. We review the experimental progress of the searches for rare leptonic B decays ($b\rightarrow \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $b\rightarrow s \ell^+ \ell^-$) at LHC and Tevatron experiments.
The non-relativistic wave function framework is applied to study the production and decay of the exotic hadrons which can be effectively described as bound states of other hadrons. Employing the factorized formulation, we investigate the production of exotic hadrons in the multiproduction processes at high energy hadronic colliders with the help of event generators. This study provides crucial information for the measurements of the relevant exotic hadrons.
A discussion is presented of results with identified particles at the Large Hadron Collider. Possible deviations from the standard statistical distributions are investigated by considering in detail results obtained using the Tsallis distribution. Matter-antimatter production is discussed within the framework of chemical equilibrium in \pp and heavy ion collisions.
Recent experimental and theoretical results presented in the working group "Parton densities from DIS and hadron colliders to LHC" at the DIS2010 workshop are summarized in this contribution.
In this contribution we review the status of inclusive jet cross sections at hadron colliders in perturbative QCD, studying in particular the renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence of the one-jet inclusive cross section at NNLO.
We review the methods which have been proposed for measuring masses of new particles at the Large Hadron Collider paying particular attention to the kinematical techniques suitable for extracting mass information when invisible particles are expected.
The Monte Carlo integrator HAWK provides precision predictions for Higgs production at hadron colliders in vector-boson fusion and Higgs strahlung, i.e. in production processes where the Higgs boson is Attached to WeaK bosons. The fully differential predictions include the full QCD and electroweak next-to-leading-order corrections. Results are computed as integrated cross sections and as binned distributions for important hadron-collider observables.
High multiplicity events in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider exhibit features resembling those found in relativistic nuclear collisions, indicating formation of medium of similar nature. Analyzing the proton-proton collision data, we find a clear signal of occurrence of change in phase between thermalized partonic matter and hadronic one as has been predicted by the lattice quantum chromodynamics.
We present pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the cross section for the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with a high-p_T hadronic jet, calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We discuss the theoretical predictions for the differential cross sections at the Large Hadron Collider and the Tevatron for the most common benchmark scenarios.
Current absolute branching fractions of $Λ_c^+$ and $D_s^+$ mesons are limiting the determination of important measurements. They have only been measured at $e^+e^-$ colliders. Here techniques for measuring them at hadron colliders are discussed. The precision determination of $Λ_c^+\to p K^-π^+$ seems possible with current data, however the corresponding determination of $D_s^+\to K^+K^-π^+$ will require more integrated luminosity.
The next-generation high-energy facilities, the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the prospective $e^+e^-$ International Linear Collider (ILC), are expected to unravel new structures of matter and forces from the electroweak scale to the TeV scale. In this report we review the complementary role of LHC and ILC in drawing a comprehensive and high-precision picture of the mechanism breaking the electroweak symmetries and generating mass, and the unification of forces in the frame of supersymmetry.
We present the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections for top-quark pair production in association with an additional jet at hadron colliders, using the modified minimal subtraction scheme to renormalize the top-quark mass. The results are compared to measurements at the Large Hadron Collider run I. In particular, we determine the top-quark running mass from a fit of the theoretical results presented here to the LHC data.
We present pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the cross section for the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with a high-p_T hadronic jet, calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We discuss the theoretical predictions for the differential cross sections at the Large Hadron Collider and the Tevatron. In particular, we present the differences in the distributions compared to the Standard Model.
In this study, we explore the effects of $\mathcal CP$-violating anomalous interactions of the top-quark through the semileptonic decay modes of the top-quark arising due to pair-production of $t\bar{t}$ at the Large Hardon Collider. Predictions on the LHC sensitivities of the coupling strength to such $\mathcal CP$-violating interactions would be discussed for the 13 TeV LHC data and for the future hadron collider with 14 TeV energy.
Construction of future electron-positron colliders (or dedicated electron linac) and muon colliders (or dedicated muon ring) tangential to Future Circular Collider (FCC) will give opportunity to utilize highest energy proton and nucleus beams for lepton-hadron and photon-hadron collisions. Luminosity values of FCC based ep, \mup, eA, \muA, \gammap and \gammaA colliders are estimated. Multi-TeV center of mass energy ep colliders based on the FCC and linear colliders (LC) are considered in detail. Parameters of upgraded versions of the FCC proton beam are determined to optimize luminosity of ele…
High-quality results have been produced with the first Large Hadron Collider run on high-pT, heavy flavour and heavy ion physics. These results, as well as the most recent data analyses from Tevatron, have been presented and discussed at the LHCP2014 conference. A selection of some of them is summarised in this paper, with care to those that stimulated interesting discussions during this event.
Both D0 and CDF at Tevatron reported the measurements of forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, which showed possible deviation from the standard model QCD prediction. In this paper, we explore how to examine the {\em same} higher-order QCD effects at the more powerful Large Hadron Collider.
Higgs physics at hadron colliders as the LHC is reviewed within the Standard Model (SM) and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) by summarizing the present state-of-the-art of theoretical predictions for the production cross sections and decay rates.
For the first time, differential cross sections for the production of W-bosons in conjunction with up to three jets, computed at next-to leading order in QCD and including parton shower corrections, are presented and compared to recent experimental data from the Large Hadron Collider.
The hadron/pion ratio is calculated in 200 GeV AuAu collisions at midrapidity, applying pQCD and non-universal transverse-momentum broadening. Arguments are presented for such non-universality, and the idea is implemented in a model, which explains the enhancement of the hadron/pion ratio in central AuAu collisions. The model also describes the qualitative difference between the recently-measured dAu nuclear enhancement factors for pions and charged hadrons.
The measurement of hard scattering processes, meaning those with energy scales of more than a few GeV, is the main method by which physics is being explored and extended by the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. We review the principal measurements made so far, and what they have told us about physics at the energy frontier.
Charged Higgs boson may be produced at hadron colliders via the decay of top quarks. At the LHC, The large production cross section of top quarks pairs will make it one of the earliest channels allowing to search for physics beyond the standard model. Assuming the decay $H^+ \to τ^+ν$, previous searches have so far considered only hadronic tau decays. Here we show that by using appropriate kinematical variables (transverse mass observables), leptonic tau decays can be used as well, for both observing and possibly measuring the mass of the charged Higgs boson. This can increase the overall expe…
We consider typical hadron collider detector signals sensitive to delayed decays of the lightest neutralino to photon plus goldstino and demonstrate the potential for substantially increasing the portion of the general parameter space of a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model that can be probed at the Tevatron.
This short summary reviews the recent progress in the computation of higher-order corrections to W+b W-antib production. In addition, new phenomenological studies reveal potential problems that may affect precision measurements at the LHC.
A new contribution from pair-production of light gluinos, of mass 12 to 16 GeV, with two-body decays into bottom quarks and light bottom squarks, helps to obtain a bottom-quark production rate in better agreement with hadron collider data. The masses of the gluino and bottom squark are further restricted by the ratio of like-sign to opposite-sign leptons at hadron colliders. Constraints on this scenario from other data are examined and predictions are made.
We review the experimental searches for new particles in the dijet mass spectrum conducted at the CERN SppS, the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, and the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The theory of the QCD background and new particle signals is reviewed, with emphasis on the choices made by the experiments to model the background and signal. The experimental techniques, data, and results of dijet resonance searches at hadron colliders over the last quarter century are described and compared. Model independent and model specific limits on new particles decaying to dijets are reviewed, and a detailed c…
While it is natural for supersymmetric particles to be well within the mass range of the large hadron collider, it is possible that the sparticle masses could be very heavy. Signatures are examined at a very high energy hadron collider and an very high luminosity option for the Large Hadron Collider in such scenarios.
The construction of the ILC tangential to Tevatron ring will give opportunity to investigate electron-proton, positron-proton, electron-antiproton, positron-antiproton interactions at 1 TeV center of mass energy. The analysis of the lepton-hadron collisions in these energy region is very important both for understanding of strong interaction dynamics and for adequate interpretation of future LHC and VLHC data. In addition, ILC-Tevatron collider will provide a possibility to realize photon-hadron collisions in the same energy region using Compton backscattered laser photon off ILC electron beam…
This talk gives a brief introduction to open questions in jet physics and QCD which come to the fore in the high-luminosity regime characterizing the upcoming phase of the Large Hadron Collider and future hadron colliders.
I consider the two-body decay of a particle at a hadron collider into a visible and an invisible particle, generalizing $W \to e ν$, where the masses of the decaying particle and the invisible decay particle are, {\em a priori}, unknown. I prove that the transverse mass, when maximized over possible kinematic configurations, can be used to determine both of the unknown masses. I argue that the proof can be generalized to cover cases such as decays of pair-produced superpartners to the lightest, stable superpartner at the Large Hadron Collider.
