In this paper, we first address the general fractional integrals and derivatives with the Sonine kernels that possess the integrable singularities of power function type at the point zero. Both particular cases and compositions of these operators are discussed. Then we proceed with a construction of an operational calculus of the Mikusiński type for the general fractional derivatives with the Sonine kernels. This operational calculus is applied for analytical treatment of some initial value problems for the fractional differential equations with the general fractional derivatives. The solutions are expressed in form of the convolution series that generalize the power series for the exponential and the Mittag-Leffler functions.
In this paper, we address the general fractional integrals and derivatives with the Sonine kernels on the spaces of functions with an integrable singularity at the point zero. First, the Sonine kernels and their important special classes and particular cases are discussed. In particular, we introduce a class of the Sonine kernels that possess an integrable singularity of power function type at the point zero. For the general fractional integrals and derivatives with the Sonine kernels from this class, two fundamental theorems of fractional calculus are proved. Then, we construct the $n$-fold g…
In this paper, we first discuss the convolution series that are generated by the Sonine kernels from a class of functions continuous on the real positive semi-axis that have an integrable singularity of power function type at the point zero. These convolution series are closely related to the general fractional integrals and derivatives with the Sonine kernels and represent a new class of the special functions of Fractional Calculus. The Mittag-Leffler functions as solutions to the fractional differential equations with the fractional derivatives of both Riemann-Liouville and Caputo types are …
We construct an operational calculus supported on the algebraic operational calculus introduced by Bengochea and Verde. With this operational calculus we study the solution of certain Bessel type equations.
Several approaches to the formulation of a fractional theory of calculus of "variable order" have appeared in the literature over the years. Unfortunately, most of these proposals lack a rigorous mathematical framework. We consider an alternative view on the problem, originally proposed by G. Scarpi in the early seventies, based on a naive modification of the representation in the Laplace domain of standard kernels functions involved in (constant-order) fractional calculus. We frame Scarpi's ideas within recent theory of General Fractional Derivatives and Integrals, that mostly rely on the Son…
The space of Schwartz distributions of finite order is represented as a factor space of the space of, what we call, Mikusinski functions. The point of Mikusinski functions is that they admit a multiplication by convergent Laurent series. It is shown that this multiplication provides a natural simple basis for Heaviside's operational calculus.
This is a survey paper in two parts. In the first part we list main variants of one-dimensional fractional integrodifferential operators. Also some historical and priority remarks are given. As a special question we consider the impact of Soviet and Russian researches to fractional calculus and its applications to viscoelasticity theory. We also stress an impact of the Voronezh school of mechanics and viscoelasticity theory, including works of Shermergor, Meschkov, Rossikhin, Shitikova and others. In the second part of the paper we consider two important special classes of generalized fraction…
In this paper, we introduce the general fractional integrals and derivatives of arbitrary order and study some of their basic properties and particular cases. First, a suitable generalization of the Sonine condition is presented and some important classes of the kernels that satisfy this condition are introduced. Whereas the kernels of the general fractional derivatives with these kernels possess the integrable singularities at the point zero, the kernels of the general fractional integrals can be - depending on their order - both singular and continuous at the origin. For the general fraction…
The $q$-calculus is reformulated in terms of the umbral calculus and of the associated operational formalism. We show that new and interesting elements emerge from such a restyling. The proposed technique is applied to a different formulations of $q$ special functions, to the derivation of integrals involving ordinary and $q$-functions and to the study of $q$-special functions and polynomials.
An important class of fractional differential and integral operators is given by the theory of fractional calculus with respect to functions, sometimes called $Ψ$-fractional calculus. The operational calculus approach has proved useful for understanding and extending this topic of study. Motivated by fractional differential equations, we present an operational calculus approach for Laplace transforms with respect to functions and their relationship with fractional operators with respect to functions. This approach makes the generalised Laplace transforms much easier to analyse and to apply in …
Consider the Fourier transform on the group $GL(2,R)$ of real $2\times 2$-matrices. We show that Fourier-images of polynomial differential operators on $GL(2,R)$ are differential-difference operators with coefficients meromorphic in parameters of representations. Expressions for operators contain shifts in imaginary direction with respect to the integration contour in the Plancherel formula. We present explicit formulas for images of partial derivations and multiplications by coordinates.
The classical Fourier transform on the line sends the operator of multiplication by $x$ to $i\frac{d}{dξ}$ and the operator of differentiation $\frac{d}{d x}$ to the multiplication by $-iξ$. For the Fourier transform on the Lobachevsky plane we establish a similar correspondence for a certain family of differential operators. It appears that differential operators on the Lobachevsky plane correspond to differential-difference operators in the Fourier-image, where shift operators act in the imaginary direction, i.e., a direction transversal to the integration contour in the Plancherel formula.
Differintegral methods, currently exploited in calculus, provide a fairly unexhausted source of tools to be applied to a wide class of problems involving the theory of special functions and not only. The use of integral transforms of Borel type and the associated formalism will be shown to be an effective means, allowing a link between umbral and operational methods. We merge these two points of view to get a new and efficient method to obtain integrals of special functions and the summation of the associated generating functions as well.
Many different types of fractional calculus have been proposed, which can be organised into some general classes of operators. For a unified mathematical theory, results should be proved in the most general possible setting. Two important classes of fractional-calculus operators are the fractional integrals and derivatives with respect to functions (dating back to the 1970s) and those with general analytic kernels (introduced in 2019). To cover both of these settings in a single study, we can consider fractional integrals and derivatives with analytic kernels with respect to functions, which h…
Integro-differential methods, currently exploited in calculus, provide an inexhaustible source of tools to be applied to a wide class of problems, involving the theory of special functions and other subjects. The use of integral transforms of the Borel type and the associated formalism is shown to be a very effective mean, constituting a solid bridge between umbral and operational methods. We merge these different points of view to obtain new and efficient analytical techniques for the derivation of integrals of special functions and the summation of associated generating functions as well.
This thesis is intended to provide an account of the theory and applications of Operational Methods that allow the "translation" of the theory of special functions and polynomials into a "different" mathematical language. The language we are referring to is that of symbolic methods, largely based on a formalism of umbral type which provides a tremendous simplification of the derivation of the associated properties. The strategy we will follow is that of establishing the rules to replace higher trascendental functions in terms of elementary functions and to take advantage from such a recasting.
Being inspired by phasor analysis in linear circuit theory, and its algebraic counterpart - the AC-(operational)-calculus for sinusoids developed by W. Marten and W. Mathis - we define a complex structure on several spaces of real-valued elementary functions. This is used to algebraize inhomogeneous linear ordinary differential equations with inhomogenities stemming from these spaces. Thus we deduce an effective method to calculate particular solutions of these ODEs in a purely algebraic way.
Inspired by ideas from umbral calculus and based on the two types of integrals occurring in the defining equations for the gamma and the reciprocal gamma functions, respectively, we develop a multi-variate version of umbral calculus and of the so-called umbral image technique. Besides providing a class of new formulae for generalized hypergeometric functions and an implementation of series manipulations for computing lacunary generating functions, our main application of these techniques is the study of Sobolev-Jacobi polynomials. Motivated by applications to theoretical chemistry, we moreover…
In this paper, we first deal with the general fractional derivatives of arbitrary order defined in the Riemann-Liouville sense. In particular, we deduce an explicit form of their null space and prove the second fundamental theorem of Fractional Calculus that leads to a closed form formula for their projector operator. These results allow us to formulate the natural initial conditions for the fractional differential equations with the general fractional derivatives of arbitrary order in the Riemann-Liouville sense. In the second part of the paper, we develop an operational calculus of the Mikus…
