Determinantal formulas with major indices

We give a simple proof of a major index determinant formula in the symmetric group discovered by Krattenthaler and first proved by Thibon using noncommutative symmetric functions. We do so by proving a factorization of an element in the group ring of the symmetric group. By applying similar methods to the groups of signed permutations and colored permutations, we prove determinant formulas in these groups as conjectured by Krattenthaler.

Descent Numbers and Major Indices for the Hyperoctahedral Group

We introduce and study three new statistics on the hyperoctahedral group $B_{n}$, and show that they give two generalizations of Carlitz's identity for the descent number and major index over $S_{n}$. This answers a question posed by Foata.

Odd and even major indices and one-dimensional characters for classical Weyl groups

We define and study odd and even analogues of the major index statistics for the classical Weyl groups. More precisely, we show that the generating functions of these statistics, twisted by the one-dimensional characters of the corresponding groups, always factor in an explicit way. In particular, we obtain odd and even analogues of Carlitz's identity, of the Gessel-Simion Theorem, and a parabolic extension, and refinement, of a result of Wachs.

Signed Mahonian polynomials for major and sorting indices

We derive some new signed Mahonian polynomials over the complex reflection group $G(r,1,n)=C_r\wr\mathfrak{S}_n$, where the "sign" is taken to be any of the $2r$ $1$-dim characters and the "Mahonian" statistics are the $\mathsf{lmaj}$ defined by Bagno and the $\mathsf{sor}$ defined by Eu et al. Various new signed Mahonian polynomials over Coxeter groups of types $B_n$ and $D_n$ are derived as well. We also investigate the signed counting polynomials on $G(r,1,n)$ for those statistics with the distribution $[r]_q[2r]_q\cdots [nr]_q$.

Major Indices and Perfect Bases for Complex Reflection Groups

It is shown that, under mild conditions, a complex reflection group $G(r,p,n)$ may be decomposed into a set-wise direct product of cyclic subgroups. This property is then used to extend the notion of major index and a corresponding Hilbert series identity to these and other closely related groups.

A central limit theorem for descents and major indices in fixed conjugacy classes of $S_n$

The distribution of descents in fixed conjugacy classes of $S_n$ has been studied, and it is shown that its moments have interesting properties. Kim and Lee showed, by using Curtiss' theorem and moment generating functions, how to prove a central limit theorem for descents in arbitrary conjugacy classes of $S_n$. In this paper, we prove a modified version of Curtiss' theorem to shift the interval of convergence in a more convenient fashion and use this to show that the joint distribution of descents and major indices is asymptotically bivariate normal.

Counting linear extensions of posets with determinants of hook lengths

We introduce a class of posets, which includes both ribbon posets (skew shapes) and $d$-complete posets, such that their number of linear extensions is given by a determinant of a matrix whose entries are products of hook lengths. We also give $q$-analogues of this determinantal formula in terms of the major index and inversion statistics. Labeled Partitions with Colored Permutations

In this paper, we extend the notion of labeled partitions with ordinary permutations to colored permutations in the sense that the colors are endowed with a cyclic structure. We use labeled partitions with colored permutations to derive the generating function of the $\mathrm{fmaj}_k$ indices of colored permutations.
