We define the doubling zeta integral for smooth families of representations of classical groups. Following this we prove a rationality result for these zeta integrals and show that they satisfy a functional equation. Moreover, we show that there exists an apropriate normalizing factor which allows us to construct $γ$-factors for smooth families out of the functional equation. We prove that under certain hypothesis, specializing this $γ$-factor at a point of the family yields the $γ$-factor defined by Piateski-Shapiro and Rallis.
Considering an arbitrary pair of distinct and non constant polynomials, $a$ and $b$ in $\mathbb{F}_2[t]$, we build a continued fraction in $\mathbb{F}_2((1/t))$ whose partial quotients are only equal to $a$ or $b$. In a previous work of the first author and Han (to appear in Acta Arithmetica), the authors considered two cases where the sequence of partial quotients represents in each case a famous and basic $2$-automatic sequence, both defined in a similar way by morphisms. They could prove the algebraicity of the corresponding continued fractions for several pairs $(a,b)$ in the first case (t…
We present two families of automatic sequences that define algebraic continued fractions in characteristic $2$. The period-doubling sequence belongs to the first first family $\mathcal{P}$; and its sum, the Thue-Morse sequence, belongs to the second family $\mathcal{G}$. The family $\mathcal{G}$ contains all the iterated sums of sequences from the $\mathcal{P}$ and more.
We show that there exist non-trivial families of algebraic varieties for which all the fibers above rational points (or even above points of odd degree) are torsors of abelian varieties representing nonzero elements of their Shafarevich-Tate groups.
We discuss the form of certain algebraic continued fractions in the field of power series over $F_p$, where p is an odd prime number. This leads to give explicit continued fractions in these fields, satisfying an explicit algebraic equation of arbitrary degree $d\geq 2$ and having an irrationality measure equal to $d$. Our results are based on a mysterious finite sequence of rational numbers.
Casually introduced thirty years ago, a simple algebraic equation of degree 4, with coefficients in Fp[T], has a solution in the field of power series in 1/T, over the finite field Fp. For each prime p > 3, the continued fraction expansion of this solution is remarkable and it has a different general pattern according to the remainder, 1 or 2, in the division of p by 3. We describe two very large families of algebraic continued fractions, each containing these solutions, according to the class of p modulo 3. We can compute the irrationality measure for these algebraic continued fractions and, …
In $2000$, Colliot-Thélène and Poonen showed how to construct algebraic families of genus one curves violating the Hasse principle. Poonen explicitly constructed an algebraic family of genus one cubic curves violating the Hasse principle using the general method developed by Colliot-Thélène and himself. The main result in this paper generalizes the result of Colliot-Thélène and Poonen to arbitrarily high genus hyperelliptic curves. More precisely, for $n > 5$ and $n \not\equiv 0 \pmod{4}$, we show that there is an algebraic family of hyperelliptic curves of genus $n$ that is counterexamples to…
Let $F(x, y)$ be a binary form of degree at least three and non-zero discriminant. We estimate the area $A_F$ bounded by the curve $|F(x, y)| = 1$ for four families of binary forms. The first two families that we are interested in are homogenizations of minimal polynomials of $2\cos\left(\frac{2π}{n}\right)$ and $2\sin\left(\frac{2π}{n}\right)$, which we denote by $Ψ_n(x, y)$ and $Π_n(x, y)$, respectively. The remaining two families of binary forms that we consider are homogenizations of Chebyshev polynomials of first and second kinds, denoted $T_n(x, y)$ and $U_n(x, y)$, respectively.
Let r : G_Q -> GL_2(Fpbar) be a p-ordinary and p-distinguished irreducible residual modular Galois representation. We show that the vanishing of the algebraic or analytic Iwasawa mu-invariant of a single modular form lifting r implies the vanishing of the corresponding mu-invariant for all such forms. Assuming that the mu-invariant vanishes, we also give explicit formulas for the difference in the algebraic or analytic lambda-invariants of modular forms lifting r. In particular, our formula shows that the lambda-invariant is constant on branches of the Hida family of r. We further show that ou…
We classify all post-critically finite unicritical polynomials defined over the maximal totally real algebraic extension of ${\mathbb Q}$. Two auxiliary results used in the proof of this result may be of some independent interest. The first is a recursion formula for the $n$-diameter of an interval, which uses properties of Jacobi polynomials. The second is a numerical criterion which allows one to the give a bound on the degree of any algebraic integer having all of its complex embeddings in a real interval of length less than $4$.
We prove lower bounds for the minimum distance of algebraic geometry codes over surfaces whose canonical divisor is either nef or anti-strictly nef and over surfaces without irreducible curves of small genus. We sharpen these lower bounds for surfaces whose arithmetic Picard number equals one, surfaces without curves with small self-intersection and fibered surfaces. Finally we specify our bounds to the case of surfaces of degree $d\geq 3$ embedded in $\mathbb{P)^3$.
Constructing families of abelian varieties of $\text{GL}_2$-type over $4$-punctured complex projective line via $p$-adic Hodge theory and Langlands correspondence and application to algebraic solutions of Painleve VI equation
We study and explicitly construct some families of asymptotically exact sequences of algebraic function fields. It turns out that these families have an asymptotical class number widely greater than the general Lachaud - Martin-Deschamps bounds. We emphasize that we obtain asymptotically exact sequences of algebraic function fields over any finite field $\F_q$, in particular when $q$ is not a square and that these sequences are dense towers.
Let X be a smooth curve defined over the algebraic numbers, let a,b be algebraic numbers, and let f_l(x) be an algebraic family of rational maps indexed by all l in X. We study whether there exist infinitely many l in X such that both a and b are preperiodic for f_l. In particular we show that if P,Q are polynomials over the algebraic numbers such that deg(P) >= 2+deg(Q), and there exists l such that a is periodic for P(x)/Q(x) + l, but b is not preperiodic for P(x)/Q(x) + l, then there exist at most finitely many l such that both a and b are preperiodic for P(x)/Q(x)+l. We also prove a simila…
We construct and study the moduli of continuous representations of a profinite group with integral $p$-adic coefficients. We present this moduli space over the moduli space of continuous pseudorepresentations and show that this morphism is algebraizable. When this profinite group is the absolute Galois group of a $p$-adic local field, we show that these moduli spaces admit Zariski-closed loci cutting out Galois representations that are potentially semi-stable with bounded Hodge-Tate weights and a given Hodge and Galois type. As a consequence, we show that these loci descend to the universal de…
Let a and b be algebraic numbers such that exactly one of a and b is an algebraic integer, and let f_t(z):=z^2+t be a family of polynomials parametrized by t. We prove that the set of all algebraic numbers t for which there exist positive integers m and n such that f_t^m(a)=f_t^n(b) has bounded Weil height. This is a special case of a more general result supporting a new bounded height conjecture in dynamics. Our results fit into the general setting of the principle of unlikely intersections in arithmetic dynamics.
