The impact of momentum anisotropy on the heavy quark transport coefficients due to collisional and radiative processes in the QCD medium has been studied within the ambit of kinetic theory. Anisotropic aspects (momentum) are incorporated into the heavy quark dynamics through the non-equilibrium momentum distribution function of quarks, antiquarks, and gluons. These non-equilibrium distribution functions that encode the physics of momentum anisotropy and turbulent chromo-fields have been obtained by solving the ensemble-averaged diffusive Vlasov-Boltzmann equation. The momentum dependence of heavy quark transport coefficients in the medium is seen to be sensitive to the strength of the anisotropy for both collisional and radiative processes. In addition, the collisional and radiative energy loss of the heavy quark in the anisotropic hot QCD medium have been analyzed. The effects of anisotropy on the drag and diffusion coefficients are observed to have a visible impact on the nuclear suppression factor both at the RHIC and LHC.
The effects of collisional processes in the hot QCD medium to thermal dilepton production from $q\overline{q}$ annihilation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions have been investigated. The non-equilibrium corrections to the momentum distribution function have been estimated within the framework of ensemble-averaged diffusive Vlasov-Boltzmann equation, encoding the effects of collisional processes and turbulent chromo-fields in the medium. The contributions from the $2\rightarrow2$ elastic scattering processes have been quantified for the thermal dilepton production rate. It is seen that the co…
Collisional energy loss of heavy partons (charm and bottom quarks) has been determined within the framework of semi-classical transport theory implying Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collisional kernel. Hot QCD medium effects have been incorporated while employing a quasi-particle description of the medium in terms of effective gluons, quarks and antiquarks with respective temperature dependent effective fugacities. The momentum dependence of the energy loss for charm and bottom quark has been investigated. It is observed that with the increase in momentum of the heavy quarks, the loss increases …
The heavy quark drag and momentum diffusion coefficients in the presence of both the collisional and radiative processes have been studied in a hot viscous QCD medium. The thermal medium effects are incorporated by employing the effective fugacity quasiparticle model based on the lattice QCD equation of state. Viscous effects are embedded into the heavy quark transport through the near-equilibrium distribution functions of the constituent medium particles of the quark-gluon plasma. The viscous corrections to the momentum distributions have been estimated from the effective Boltzmann equation. …
Energy-loss studies of hard particle probes produced in heavy ion collisions have often been used to get information on the interactions within the medium of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). However, with the study of in-medium energy-loss of individual particles alone, it remains still ambiguous, whether the occured decrease in particle energy is caused by predominantly radiative or collisional energy-loss mechanisms. Focusing on the in-medium energy-loss of hard jet-partons, we propose additional studies of the angular jet-structure as a means to further constrain the energy-loss mechanisms.
The longitudinal current density induced by the inhomogeneous electric field in the hot magnetized quark-gluon plasma has been investigated and utilized in obtaining the conductivity of the medium. The analysis has been done in the regime where inhomogeneity of the field is small so that the collision effect could be significant. The modeling of the QCD medium is based on a quasiparticle description where the medium effects have been encoded in the effective quarks, antiquarks and gluons. The temperature dependence of the linear longitudinal current density (in terms of the electric field) and…

We study the production and evolution of charm and bottom quarks in hot partonic medium produced in heavy ion collisions. The heavy quarks loose energy in the medium which is reflected in the transverse momentum spectra of heavy mesons. The collisional energy loss of heavy quarks has been calculated using QCD calculations. The radiative energy loss is obtained using two models namely reaction operator formalism and generalized dead cone approach. The nuclear modification factors, $R_{AA}$ as a function of transverse momentum by including shadowing and energy loss are calculated for $D^{0}$ and…
We present the calculations of collisional and radiative energy loss of $B$ and $D$ mesons in the medium produced in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. The nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ of $B$ and $D$ mesons including shadowing and energy loss are calculated and compared with the measured data. While the $D$ meson $R_{AA}$ can be described in terms of the radiative energy loss alone, both the collisional as well as radiative energy loss are required to explain the $B$ meson measurements.
The thermoelectric behaviour of quark-gluon plasma has been studied within the framework of an effective kinetic theory by adopting a quasiparticle model to incorporate the thermal medium effects. The thermoelectric response of the medium has been quantified in terms of the Seebeck coefficient. The dependence of the collisional aspects of the QCD medium on the Seebeck coefficient has been estimated by utilizing relaxation time approximation and Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook collision kernels in the effective Boltzmann equation. The thermoelectric coefficient is seen to depend on the quark chemical pot…
The partonic energy loss has been calculated taking both the hard and soft contributions for all the $2 \to 2$ processes, revealing the importance of the individual channels. Cancellation of the intermediate separation scale has been exhibited. Subtleties related to the identical final state partons have properly been taken into account. The estimated collisional loss is compared with its radiative counter part. We show that there exists a critical energy ($E_c$) below which the collisional loss is more than its radiative counterpart. In addition, we present closed form formulas for both the c…
We compute the energy loss of heavy quarkonia in high temperature QCD plasmas and investigate the energy loss effects on quarkonium suppression. Based on the effective vertex derived from the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude for quarkonium, the collisional and radiative energy loss are determined by quarkonium-gluon elastic scattering and the associated gluon-bremsstrahlung, respectively. In the energy regime $E<m_Υ^2/T$ the collisional energy loss is dominant over the radiative one, and the total energy loss increases with the plasma temperature and the initial energy of quarkonium. Our numerical ana…
While experimental observations, such as the mass hierarchy effect, are attributed and analyzed within radiative models, their interpretation crucially depends on collisional energy loss contribution, which is often neglected in such analyses. To our knowledge, neither a (direct) simple relation between collisional energy loss and heavy quark mass is established, nor an observable that quantifies this effect. On the other hand, the upcoming high-luminosity measurements at RHIC and LHC will generate heavy flavor data with unprecedented precision, providing an opportunity to utilize high-pT heav…
The electric charge transport in a weakly magnetized hot QCD medium has been investigated in the presence of an external inhomogeneous electric field. The current densities (electric and Hall)induced by the inhomogeneous electric field have been estimated in the regime where space-time inhomogeneity of the field is small so that the collisional effect in the medium cannot be neglected. The collisional aspect of the medium has been captured by employing both relaxation time approximation and Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook collision kernel in the relativistic Boltzmann equation. The magnetic field, momen…
The bottom quark transport coefficients, i.e., drag and diffusion coefficients, have been studied for the collisional and soft gluon radiative processes within the viscous QCD medium. The thermal medium effects are incorporated using the effective fugacity quasiparticle model (EQPM). Both the shear and bulk viscous effects at leading order are embedded through the near-equilibrium distribution functions of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) constituent quasiparticles. The transport coefficients' dependence on the bottom quark's initial momentum and QGP temperature has been investigated. The relative…
We present calculations for the shear viscosity of the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma (QGP) using the partonic scattering cross sections as a function of temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ from the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) that is matched to reproduce the equation of state of the partonic system above the deconfinement temperature $T_c$ from lattice QCD. To this aim we calculate the collisional widths for the partonic degrees of freedom at finite $T$ and $μ_B$ in the time-like sector and conclude that the quasiparticle limit holds sufficiently well. Furthermore, …
The energy-loss of hard probes within the hot and dense medium of a quark gluon plasma (QGP) can be described by theoretical models based on radiative energy loss as well as combinations of collisional and radiative energy loss. In a search for observables that allow to disentangle these energy-loss mechanisms, we introduced a set of effective models that allows to investigate the consequences on jets of both types of jet-medium interactions within a consistent framework. We particularly studied angular jet-broadening via angular two-particle correlations. Distinguishing contributions from pai…
The LHC data on jet fragmentation function and jet shapes in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted in the frameworks of PYQUEN jet quenching model. A specific modification of longitudinal and radial jet profiles in most central PbPb collisions as compared with pp data is close to that obtained with PYQUEN simulations taking into account wide-angle radiative and collisional partonic energy loss. The contribution of radiative and collisional loss to the medium-modified intra-jet structure is estimated.
The gluon collisional width in hot QCD plasmas is discussed with emphasis on temperatures near $T_c$, where the coupling is large. Considering its effect on the entropy, which is known from lattice calculations, it is argued that the width, which in the perturbative limit is given by $γ\sim g^2 \ln(1/g) T$, should be sizeable at intermediate temperatures but has to be small close to $T_c$. Implications of these results for several phenomenologically relevant quantities, such as the energy loss of hard jets, are pointed out.
Surface waves propagating in the semi-bounded collisional hot QCD medium (quark-gluon plasma) are considered. To investigate the effect of collisions as damping and non-ideality factor, the longitudinal and transverse dielectric functions of the quark-gluon plasma are used within the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) approach. The results were obtained both analytically and numerically in the long wavelength limit. First of all, collisions lead to smaller values of surface wave frequency and their stronger damping. Secondly, the results show that non-ideality leads to the appearance of a new branch …
