This paper proposes semi-discrete and fully discrete hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) methods for the Burgers' equation in two and three dimensions. In the spatial discretization, we use piecewise polynomials of degrees $ k \ (k \geq 1), k-1$ and $ l \ (l=k-1; k) $ to approximate the scalar function, flux variable and the interface trace of scalar function, respectively. In the full discretization method, we apply a backward Euler scheme for the temporal discretization. Optimal a priori error estimates are derived. Numerical experiments are presented to support the theoretical results.
We present a priori and a posteriori error analysis of a high order hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method applied to a semi-linear elliptic problem posed on a piecewise curved, non polygonal domain. We approximate $Ω$ by a polygonal subdomain $Ω_h$ and propose an HDG discretization, which is shown to be optimal under mild assumptions related to the non-linear source term and the distance between the boundaries of the polygonal subdomain $Ω_h$ and the true domain $Ω$. Moreover, a local non-linear post-processing of the scalar unknown is proposed and shown to provide an additional ord…

In this work we compare semi-discrete formulations to obtain numerical solutions for the 1D Burgers equation. The formulations consist in the discretization of the time-domain via multi-stage methods of second and fourth order: R_{11} and R_{22} Padé approximants, and of the spatial-domain via finite element methods: least-squares (MEFMQ), Galerkin (MEFG) and Streamline-Upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG). Knowing the analytical solutions of the 1D Burgues equation, for different initial and boundary conditions, analyzes were performed for numerical errors from L_{2} and L_{\infinity} norm. We found…
Finite element approximation for the delayed generalized Burgers-Huxley equation with weakly singular kernel: Part II Non-Conforming and DG approximation
Global stabilization of viscous Burgers' equation around constant steady state solution has been discussed in the literature. The main objective of this paper is to show global stabilization results for the 2D forced viscous Burgers' equation around a nonconstant steady state solution using nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control law, under some smallness condition on that steady state solution. On discretizing in space using $C^0$ piecewise linear elements keeping time variable continuous, a semidiscrete scheme is obtained. Moreover, global stabilization results for the semidiscrete solut…

We propose an Exponential DG approach for numerically solving partial differential equations (PDEs). The idea is to decompose the governing PDE operators into linear (fast dynamics extracted by linearization) and nonlinear (the remaining after removing the former) parts, on which we apply the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) spatial discretization. The resulting semi-discrete system is then integrated using exponential time-integrators: exact for the former and approximate for the latter. By construction, our approach i) is stable with a large Courant number (Cr > 1); ii) supports high-order soluti…
We are interested in the numerical solution of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) in two and three dimensions. Under certain assumptions on the domain, we take advantage of the Kronecker structure arising in standard space discretizations of the differential operators and illustrate how the resulting system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) can be treated directly in matrix or tensor form. Moreover, in the framework of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and the discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM) we derive a two- and three-sided model order reduct…
We propose and analyze a seamless extended Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretization of advection-diffusion equations on semi-infinite domains. The semi-infinite half line is split into a finite subdomain where the model uses a standard polynomial basis, and a semi-unbounded subdomain where scaled Laguerre functions are employed as basis and test functions. Numerical fluxes enable the coupling at the interface between the two subdomains in the same way as standard single domain DG interelement fluxes. A novel linear analysis on the extended DG model yields unconditional stability with respect…
We study an identification problem which estimates the parameters of the underlying random distribution for uncertain scalar conservation laws. The hyperbolic equations are discretized with the so-called discontinuous stochastic Galerkin method, i.e., using a spatial discontinuous Galerkin scheme and a Multielement stochastic Galerkin ansatz in the random space. We assume an uncertain flux or uncertain initial conditions and that a data set of an observed solution is given. The uncertainty is assumed to be uniformly distributed on an unknown interval and we focus on identifying the correct end…
In this paper, we propose a semi-Lagrangian discontinuous Galerkin method coupled with Runge-Kutta exponential integrators (SLDG-RKEI) for nonlinear Vlasov dynamics. The commutator-free Runge-Kutta (RK) exponential integrators (EI) were proposed by Celledoni, et al. (FGCS, 2003). In the nonlinear transport setting, the RKEI can be used to decompose the evolution of the nonlinear transport into a composition of a sequence of linearized dynamics. The resulting linearized transport equations can be solved by the semi-Lagrangian (SL) discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method proposed in Cai, et al. (JSC,…
