Apart from the quark and gluon kinetic and potential energies, the nucleon mass includes a novel energy of pure quantum origin resulting from anomalous breaking of scale symmetry. We demonstrate the effects of this quantum anomalous energy (QAE) in QED, as well as in a toy 1+1 dimensional non-linear sigma model where it contributes non-perturbatively, in a way resembling the Higgs mechanism for the masses of matter particles in electro-weak theory. The QAE contribution to the nucleon mass can be explained using a similar mechanism, in terms of a dynamical response of the gluonic scalar field through Higgs-like couplings between the nucleon and scalar resonances. In addition, the QAE sets the scale for other energies in the nucleon through a relativistic virial theorem, and contributes a negative pressure to confine the colored quarks.
We investigate an extended chiral soliton model which includes $π, ρ, ω$ and $σ$ mesons as explicit degrees of freedom. The Lagrangian incorporates chiral symmetry and broken scale invariance. A scalar-isoscalar meson $σ$ is associated with a quarkonium dilaton field with a mass $\msig\approx 550 $MeV. We show that the scalar field with anomalous dimension slightly changes the static and electromagnetic properties of the nucleon. In contrast, it plays a significant role in nucleon-nucleon dynamics and gives an opportunity to describe well the two-nucleon interaction.
We construct the effective anomaly lagrangian involving nucleons and photons by using current-current coupling method. The contribution of this lagrangian to the anomalous magnetic moment of nucleon is purely isovector. The anomalous magnetic moment of proton, $κ_P$, can be calculated from the this lagrangian and it is found to be $κ_P^{Theor.} = 1.77$, which is in excellent agreement with the experimental value $κ_P^{Exp.} = 1.79$. While the case of neutron, $κ_N^{Theor.} = -2.58$ as compared to $κ_N^{Exp.} =-1.91$, is less satisfactory, but the sign is correct.
We consider the electric dipole form factor, F_3(q^2), as well as the Dirac and Pauli form factors, F_1(q^2) and F_2(q^2), of the nucleon in the light-front formalism. We derive an exact formula for F_3(q^2) to complement those known for F_1(q^2) and F_2(q^2). We derive the light-front representation of the discrete symmetry transformations and show that time-reversal- and parity-odd effects are captured by phases in the light-front wave functions. We thus determine that the contributions to F_2(q^2) and F_3(q^2), Fock state by Fock state, are related, independent of the fundamental mechanism …
We compute corrections to both the isovector anomalous magnetic moment and the isovector electromagnetic current of the nucleon to $O(p^3)$ in the framework of covariant two-flavor Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory. We then apply these corrections to lattice data for the anomalous magnetic moment from the LHPC, RBC & UKQCD and QCDSF collaborations.
The light-mass exotics with J^{PC}=1^{-+} observed at BNL and CERN may have a simple explanation as dynamically generated resonances in eta-prime pi rescattering in the final state interaction. This dynamics is mediated by the same anomalous glue which also generates the large mass of the eta-prime. OZI violating processes are also potentially important to eta-prime production in proton-proton collisions close to threshold.
We calculate the scale dependence of nonsinglet nucleon structure functions. Due to anomalous axial symmetry breaking a large flavour asymmetry of the quark--antiquark sea is generated nonperturbatively. This produces a strong scale dependence of the nonsinglet structure function in an intermediate range of $Q^2$. Evolving nonperturbatively a pure valence distribution from an infrared scale we can thus compute $F_2^p-F_2^n$ as measured by the NMC, and give detailed predictions for its $Q^2$ dependence at fixed $x$. We also compare our results with Drell--Yan data.
We discuss the production of W-+ bosons in deep inelastic processes (anti-nu)nu + nucleon --> l+- + W-+ + X, in the context of an electroweak model in which the vector boson self interactions may be different from those prescribed by the electroweak standard model. We present results which show the strong dependence of the cross section on the anomalous magnetic dipole moment kappa of the W+-. We show that even small deviations from the standard model value of kappa (kappa=1) could imply large deviations in the cross section rates of W-+ production through the collision of an ultrahigh energy …
The strange magnetic moment of the nucleon ($μ_s$) is examined as part of the nucleon's isoscalar anomalous moment. The dominant up and down quark effects in the anomalous moment may actually tend to favor $μ_s >0$, which is contrary to the negative values that generally result from model calculations. The possible origins of this apparent discrepancy are considered.
We review and examine in detail recent developments regarding the question of the nucleon mass decomposition. We discuss in particular the virial theorem in quantum field theory and its implications for the nucleon mass decomposition and mechanical equilibrium. We reconsider the renormalization of the QCD energy-momentum tensor in minimal-subtraction-type schemes and the physical interpretation of its components, as well as the role played by the trace anomaly and Poincaré symmetry. We also study the concept of "quantum anomalous energy" proposed in some works as a new contribution to the nucl…
Nucleon lifetimes for various decay modes via dimension 6 operators are calculated in the anomalous $U(1)_A$ GUT scenario, in which the unification scale $Λ_u$ becomes smaller than the usual supersymmetric (SUSY) unification scale $Λ_G=2\times 10^{16}$ GeV in general. Since the predicted lifetime $τ(p\rightarrow π^0+e^c)$ becomes around the experimental lower bound though it is strongly dependent on the explicit models, the discovery of the nucleon decay in near future can be expected. We explain why the two ratios $R_1\equiv\frac{Γ_{n \rightarrow π^0 + ν^c}}{Γ_{p \rightarrow π^0 + e^c}}$ and …
We report in the present talk recent results of the tensor properties of the nucleon within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model. The tensor and anomalous tensor magnetic form factors are calculated for the momentum transfer up to $Q^{2}\leq1\,\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$ and at a renormalization scale of $0.36\,\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$. The main results are summarized as follows: the flavor tensor charges of the nucleon are yielded as $δu=1.08$, $δd=-0.31$, $δs=-0.01$, while the up and down anomalous tensor magnetic moments are evaluated as $κ_{T}^{u}=3.56$ and $κ_{T}^{d}=1.83$, respectively. The st…
The leading order contributions of processes involving anomalous pion-photon vertices to forward spin-dependent Compton scattering from nucleons are considered in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. These all involve the exchange of three pions between one or two photons and the nucleon, and hence are two-loop processes. We find that the sum of these processes vanishes in the manner predicted by the low energy theorem of Low, Gell-Mann and Goldberger as the photon energy goes to zero. This provides the first consistency test of two-loop HBCPT.
It is argued that the precise three flavor symmetry of hadrons is not SU(3)_F but rather U(4)_F restricted to SU(2)_{ud}*SU(2)_{cs}*U(1) and considered in the limit of frozen charm degree of freedom. Within this scheme the only hypercharge generator which is consistent with the Gell-Mann--Nishijima relation appears to be an element of the su(2)_{cs}*u(1) subalgebra as it contains the unit matrix generating the baryon number current. In considering now hypercharge axial transformations, the u(1) generator will give rise to the anomalous U(1)_A axial current and the resulting hypercharge axial c…
We investigate the form factors of the chiral-odd nucleon matrix element of the tensor current. In particular, we aim at the anomalous tensor magnetic form factors of the nucleon within the framework of the SU(3) and SU(2) chiral quark-soliton model. We consider $1/N_c$ rotational corrections and linear effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking with the symmetry-conserving quantization employed. We first obtain the results of the anomalous tensor magnetic moments for the up and down quarks: $κ_{T}^{u}=3.56$ and $κ_{T}^{d}=1.83$, respectively. The strange anomalous tensor magnetic moment is yielded to…
I present an exact relationship between the electric dipole moment and anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon in the light-front formalism of QCD and consider its consequences.
The contribution of the anomalous quark-gluon interaction induced by instantons to the polarized and unpolarized gluon distributions in nucleon is estimated. It is shown that this interaction leads to negative gluon polarization in nucleon.
We present a calculation of the fourth-order (NLO) contribution to spin-dependent Compton scattering in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, and we give results for the four spin polarisabilities. No low-energy constants, except for the anomalous magnetic moments of the nucleon, enter at this order. For forward scattering the fourth-order piece of the spin polarisability of the proton turns out to be almost twice the size of the leading piece, with the opposite sign. This leads to the conclusion that no prediction can currently be made for this quantity. For backward scattering the fourth-…
It is argued that the constituent quarks are expected to show a non-- trivial spin and flavor structure, due to the anomalous breaking of the chiral symmetry in the U(1) sector. CERN--TH.7079/93\\
The nucleon axial vector form factor is investigated in a light-cone quark spectator diquark model, in which Melosh rotations are applied to both the quark and vector diquark. It is found that this model gives a very good description of available experimental data and the results have very little dependence on the parameters of the model. The relation between the nucleon axial constant and the anomalous magnetic moment of nucleons is also discussed.
We consider nuclei produced in core collapse supernovae and subjected to a high neutron flux. We show that an accelerator mass spectrometry experiment that searched for traces of anomalous iron isotopes could set limits on the order of $10^{-20}-10^{-25}$ on (or perhaps discover) Pauli principle violation by neutrons. A similar search for anomalous Co isotopes could set limits in the range $10^{-13}-10^{-18}$ on Pauli principle violation by protons. We show that existing data on Oxygen can be used to set a limit of about $10^{-17}$ in one proposed model of such violation.
Poincare' covariant Faddeev equations for the nucleon and Delta are solved to illustrate that an internally consistent description in terms of confined-quark and nonpointlike confined-diquark-correlations can be obtained. pi N-loop induced self-energy corrections to the nucleon's mass are analysed and shown to be independent of whether a pseudoscalar or pseudovector coupling is used. Phenomenological constraints suggest that this self-energy correction reduces the nucleon's mass by up to several hundred MeV. That effect does not qualitatively alter the picture, suggested by the Faddeev equatio…
The nucleon properties and structure should be modified by short-range correlations (SRC) among nucleons. By analyzing SRC ratio data, we extract the mass of nucleon in the SRC pair and the expected number of pn-SRC pairs in deuterium, under the assumption that the SRC nucleon mass is universal in different nuclei. The nucleon mass of a two-nucleon SRC pair is $m_{\text{SRC}}=852\pm 18$ MeV, and the number of pn-SRC pairs in deuterium is $n^{\text{d}}_{\text{SRC}}=0.021\pm 0.005$. The mass deficit of the strongly overlapping nucleon can be explained by the trace anomaly contribution to the mas…
The Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum rule for the nucleon is investigated within a relativistic constituent quark model formulated on the light-front. The contribution of the N - Delta(1232) transition is explicitly evaluated using different forms for the baryon wave functions and adopting a one-body relativistic current for the constituent quarks. It is shown that the N - Delta(1232) contribution to the sum rule is sharply sensitive to the introduction of anomalous magnetic moments for the constituent quarks, at variance with the findings of non-relativistic and relativized quark models. The experim…
In this paper we show that for a nucleon at rest if the quarks and/or antiquarks are in motion inside the nucleon producing chromo-magnetic field then the mass sum rule in QCD is violated when the confinement potential energy at large distance $r$ rises linearly with $r$ (or faster). Hence we find that the mass of the nucleon at rest is not equal to the mass-energy of all the quarks plus antiquarks plus gluons inside the nucleon if there exists chromo-magnetic field inside the nucleon and the confinement potential energy at large distance $r$ rises linearly with $r$ (or faster).
We present a calculation of the two-loop anomalous dimension for the transversity distribution $h_1(x,Q^2)$, $γ^{h(1)}_n$, in the MS scheme of the dimensional regularization. Because of the chiral-odd nature, $h_1$ does not mix with the gluon distributions, and thus our result is the same for the flavor-singlet and nonsinglet distributions. At small $n$ (moment of $h_1$), $γ^{h(1)}_n$ is significantly larger than $γ^{f,g(1)}_n$ (the anomalous dimension for the nonsinglet $f_1$ and $g_1$), but approaches $γ^{f,g(1)}_n$ very quickly at large $n$, keeping the relation $γ^{h(1)}_n > γ^{f,g(1)}_n$.…
Electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons and nuclei, which are sought as evidence of CP violation, require lattice calculations to connect constraints from experiments to limits on the strong CP violation within QCD or CP violation introduced by new physics from beyond the standard model. Nucleon EDM calculations on a lattice are notoriously hard due to large statistical noise, chiral symmetry violating effects, and potential mixing of the EDM and the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon. In this report, details of ongoing lattice calculations of proton and neutron EDMs induced by the QC…
We discuss nonperturbative QCD evolution of nonsinglet nucleon structure functions, with particular application to the Gottfried sum. We show that the coupling of the quark partons to bound state mesons leads to nonperturbative contributions to the Altarelli--Parisi equations which, due to the axial anomaly, result in a strong scale dependence of nonsinglet structure functions for values of $Q^2$ around the nucleon mass scale. We compute specifically the evolution of the first moment of the quark distribution, and find that it is sufficient to explain recent experimental data which indicate a …
We study the prospects of using femtoscopic low-momentum correlation measurements at the Large Hadron Collider to access properties of the J/psi-nucleon interaction. The QCD multipole expansion in terms of the J/psi chromopolarizability relates the forward scattering amplitude to a key matrix element to the origin of the nucleon mass problem, the average chromoelectric gluon distribution in the nucleon. We use information on the J/psi-nucleon interaction provided by lattice QCD simulations and phenomenological models to compute J/psi-nucleon correlation functions. The computed correlation func…
The charged-current double differential neutrino cross section, measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration, has been analyzed using a microscopical model that accounts for, among other nuclear effects, long range nuclear (RPA) correlations and multinucleon scattering. We find that MiniBooNE data are fully compatible with the world average of the nucleon axial mass in contrast with several previous analyses which have suggested an anomalously large value. We also discuss the reliability of the algorithm used to estimate the neutrino energy.
We calculate the nucleon contribution to the electromagnetic vertex of a neutrino in a background of particles, including the effect of the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleons. Explicit formulas for the form factors are given in various physical limits of practical interest. Several applications of the results are mentioned, including the effect of an external magnetic field on the dispersion relation of a neutrino in matter.
Two new sum rules are derived relating Dirac radii and anomalous magnetic moments of the considered strongly interacting fermions with the convergent integral over a difference of the total proton and neutron, as well as $He^3$ and $H^3$, photoproduction cross-sections.
A number of papers recently have used fourth-order chiral perturbation theory to extrapolate lattice data for the nucleon mass; the process seems surprisingly successful even for large pion masses. This paper shows that the inclusion of the fifth-order terms spoils the agreement.
The pion-mass dependence of the nucleon mass within the covariant SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory both without and with explicit Delta(1232) degrees of freedom up to order p^4 is investigated. By fitting to lattice QCD data in 2 and 2+1 flavors from several collaborations, for pion masses M_pi < 420 MeV, we obtain low energy constants of natural size and compatible with pion nucleon scattering data. Our results are consistent with the rather linear pion-mass dependence showed by lattice QCD. In the 2 flavor case we have also performed simultaneous fits to the nucleon mass and pion-nucl…
Nucleon-nucleon interactions, both bare and effective, play an important role in our understanding of the non-perturbative strong interaction, as well as nuclear structure and reactions. In recent years, tremendous efforts have been seen in the lattice QCD community to derive nucleon-nucleon interactions from first principles. Because of the daunting computing resources needed, most of such simulations were still performed with larger than physical light quark masses. In the present work, employing the recently proposed covariant chiral effective field theory (ChEFT), we study the light quark …
In the spectator models of the nucleon with scalar and axial-vector diquarks, we show that the effect of Pauli coupling in photon-quark vertex to the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of nucleon and azimuthal asymmetry in the unpolarized semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS). This anomalous coupling gives obvious contribution to unpolarized and polarized PDFs, and also leads to a $\cos 2ϕ_h$ azimuthal asymmetry proportional to the squared Pauli form factor, due to the helicity flip of the struck quark. After determining the model parameters by fitting PDFs to the global fits, thi…
The longest-range part of the nuclear force due to the one-pion exchange governs the energy dependence of the scattering amplitude in the near-threshold region and imposes correlations between the coefficients in the effective range expansion. These correlations may be regarded as low-energy theorems and are known to hold to a high accuracy in the neutron-proton 3S1 partial wave. We generalize the low-energy theorems to the case of unphysical pion masses and provide results for the correlations between the coefficients in the effective range expansion in this partial wave for pion masses up to…
Quark mass dependence of the equation of state (EOS) for nucleonic matter is investigated, on the basis of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method with the nucleon-nucleon interaction extracted from lattice QCD simulations. We observe saturation of nuclear matter at the lightest available quark mass corresponding to the pseudoscalar meson mass ~ 469 MeV. Mass-radius relation of the neutron stars is also studied with the EOS for neutron-star matter from the same nuclear force in lattice QCD. We observe that the EOS becomes stiffer and thus the maximum mass of neutron star increases as the quark mass …
We calculate the masses of the nucleons and deltas in twisted mass heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We work to quadratic order in a power counting scheme in which we treat the lattice spacing and the quark masses to be of the same order. We give expressions for the mass and the mass splitting of the nucleons and deltas both in and away from the isospin limit. We give an argument using the chiral Lagrangian treatment that, in the strong isospin limit, the nucleons remain degenerate and the delta multiplet breaks into two degenerate pairs to all orders in chiral perturbation theory. We s…
Vacuum to nuclear matter phase transition has been studied in presence of constant external background magnetic field with the mean field approximation in Walecka model. The anomalous nucleon magnetic moment has been taken into account using the modified "weak" field expansion of the fermion propagator having non-trivial correction terms for charged as well as for neutral particles. The effect of nucleon magnetic moment is found to favour the magnetic catalysis effect at zero temperature and zero baryon density. However, extending the study to finite temperatures, it is observed that the anoma…
Previous extrapolations of lattice QCD results for the nucleon mass to the physically relevant region of small quark masses, using chiral effective field theory, are extended and expanded in several directions. A detailed error analysis is performed. An approach with explicit delta(1232) degrees of freedom is compared to a calculation with only pion and nucleon degrees of freedom. The role of the delta(1232) for the low-energy constants of the latter theory is elucidated. The consistency with the chiral perturbation theory analysis of pion-nucleon scattering data is examined. It is demonstrate…
We present results on the nucleon form factors, momentum fraction and helicity moment for $N_f=2$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions for a number of lattice volumes and lattice spacings. First results for a new $N_f=2$ ensemble at the physical pion mass are also included. The implications of these results on the spin content of the nucleon are discussed taking into account the disconnected contributions at one pion mass.
We report the first study of the nucleon where the full Poincare-covariant structure of the three-quark amplitude is implemented in the Faddeev equation. We employ an interaction kernel which is consistent with contemporary studies of meson properties and aspects of chiral symmetry and its dynamical breaking, thus yielding a comprehensive approach to hadron physics. The resulting current-mass evolution of the nucleon mass compares well with lattice data and deviates only by ~5% from the quark-diquark result obtained in previous studies.
We calculate pion mass, pion decay constant, PCAC quark mass and nucleon mass in two flavour lattice QCD with unimproved Wilson fermion and gauge actions. Simulations are performed using DD-HMC algorithm at two lattice spacings and two volumes for several values of the quark mass. The cutoff effects in pion mass and nucleon mass for the explored region of parameter space are found to be negligible. The chiral behaviours of pion mass, pion decay constant and quark condensate are found to be qualitatively consistent with NLO chiral perturbation theory.
We evaluate the contribution of the CP violating gluon chromo-electric dipole moment (the so-called Weinberg operator, denoted as $w$) to the electric dipole moment (EDM) of nucleons in the nonrelativistic quark model. The CP-odd interquark potential is modeled by the perturbative one-loop level gluon exchange generated by the Weinberg operator with massive quarks and gluons. The nucleon EDM is obtained by solving the nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation of the three-quark system using the Gaussian expansion method. It is found that the resulting nucleon EDM, which may reasonably be considered…
We calculate the intrinsic quark spin contribution to the total proton spin using overlap valence quarks on three ensembles of $2+1$-flavor RBC/UKQCD domain-wall configurations with different lattice spacings. The lowest pion mass of the ensembles is around 171 MeV which is close to the physical point. With overlap fermions and topological charge derived from the overlap operator, we verify the anomalous Ward identity between nucleon states with momentum transfer. Both the connected and disconnected insertions of the axial-vector current are calculated. For the disconnected-insertion part, the…
The magnetic dipole moment of the $Δ(1232)$ is calculated in the framework of manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory in combination with the extended on-mass-shell renormalization scheme. As in the case of the nucleon, at leading order both isoscalar and isovector anomalous magnetic moments are given in terms of two low-energy constants. In contrast to the nucleon case, at next-to-leading order the isoscalar anomalous magnetic moment receives a (real) loop contribution. Moreover, due to the unstable nature of the $Δ(1232)$, at next-to-leading order the isovector anomalo…
We review the present understanding of etaprime and eta meson physics and these mesons as a probe of gluon dynamics in low-energy QCD. Recent highlights include the production mechanism of eta and etaprime mesons in proton-nucleon collisions from threshold to high-energy, the etaprime effective mass shift in the nuclear medium, searches for possible eta and etaprime bound states in nuclei as well as precision measurements of eta decays as a probe of light-quark masses. We discuss recent experimental data, theoretical interpretation of the different measurements and the open questions and chall…
We study the Brodsky-Lepage evolution equation for the nucleon and construct an eigenfunction basis by including contributions of up to polynomial order $9$. By exployting the permutation symmetry $P_{13}$ of these eigenfunctions, a basis of symmetrized Appell polynomials can be constructed in which the diagonalization of the evolution kernel is considerably simplified. The anomalous dimensions are calculated and found to follow a power-law behavior. As an application, we consider the Brodsky-Huang-Lepage ansatz. An algorithm is developed to properly incorporate such higher order contributions…
We calculate the nucleon contribution to the photon self-energy in a plasma, including the effect of the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleons. General formulas for the transverse and longitudinal components of the self-energy are obtained and we give explicit results in various limits of physical interest. The formulas are relevant for the study of the photon dispersion relations and the dynamical susceptibility in a nuclear medium such as the core of a supernova, and has implications with regard to the recent suggestion that the Cerenkov process $ν\to νγ$ can take place in such a system.
Fits of the p^4 covariant SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory to lattice QCD nucleon mass data from several collaborations for 2 and 2+1 flavors are presented. We consider contributions from explicit Delta(1232) degrees of freedom, finite volume and finite spacing corrections. We emphasize here our Nf=2+1 study. We obtain low-energy constants of natural size that are compatible with the rather linear pion-mass dependence of the nucleon mass observed in lattice QCD. We report a value for the pion-nucleon sigma term of 41(5)(4) MeV for the 2 flavor case and 52(3)(8) MeV for 2+1 flavors.
We examine isospin breaking in the nucleon wave functions due to the $u - d$ quark mass difference and the Coulomb interaction among the quarks, and their consequences on the nucleon electroweak form factors in a nonrelativistic constituent quark model. The mechanically induced isospin breaking in the nucleon wave functions and electroweak form factors are exactly evaluated in this model. We calculate the electromagnetically induced isospin admixtures by using first-order perturbation theory, including the lowest-lying resonance with nucleon quantum numbers but isospin 3/2. We find a small ($\…
The anomalous dimensions of trilinear-quark operators are calculated at leading twist $t=3$ by diagonalizing the one-gluon exchange kernel of the renormalization-group type evolution equation for the nucleon distribution amplitude. This is done within a symmetrized basis of Appell polynomials of maximum degree $M$ for $M\gg 1$ (up to order 400) by combining analytical and numerical algorithms. The calculated anomalous dimensions form a degenerate system, whose upper envelope shows asymptotically logarithmic behavior.
Various kinds of isovector nucleon effective masses are used in the literature to characterize the momentum/energy dependence of the nucleon symmetry potential or self-energy due to the space/time non-locality of the underlying isovector strong interaction in neutron-rich nucleonic matter. The multifaceted studies on nucleon isovector effective masses are multi-disciplinary in nature. Besides structures, masses and low-lying excited states of nuclei as well as nuclear reactions, studies of the isospin dependence of short-range correlations in nuclei from scatterings of high-energy electrons an…
In order to reveal the difference between the latest neutron star observation experiment GW170817 and the existing theory, we mainly consider the effect of the nucleon radius on the neutron star from the existing theory. We believe that the effect of nucleon radius in neutron star is not negligible, and the mass radius of nucleon should be used instead of the charge radius. The nucleon mass radius is set as $r_m = 0.55\pm0.09$ fm from the new measurements. It is considered as an input to the "Excluded Volume Effects" model in the equation of state of nuclear matter. We propose a novel neutron …
We give a short introduction to the calculation of the leading chiral logarithms, and present the results of the recent evaluation of the leading logarithm series for the nucleon mass within the heavy baryon theory. The presented results are the first example of leading logarithm calculation in the nucleon ChPT. We also discuss some regularities observed in the leading logarithmical series for nucleon mass. The talk has been presented at "Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum XI".
