We investigate the form factors of the chiral-odd nucleon matrix element of the tensor current. In particular, we aim at the anomalous tensor magnetic form factors of the nucleon within the framework of the SU(3) and SU(2) chiral quark-soliton model. We consider $1/N_c$ rotational corrections and linear effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking with the symmetry-conserving quantization employed. We first obtain the results of the anomalous tensor magnetic moments for the up and down quarks: $κ_{T}^{u}=3.56$ and $κ_{T}^{d}=1.83$, respectively. The strange anomalous tensor magnetic moment is yielded to be $κ_{T}^{s}=0.2\sim -0.2$, that is compatible with zero. We also calculate the corresponding form factors $κ_{T}^{q}(Q^{2})$ up to a momentum transfer $Q^{2}\leq 1\,\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$ at a renormalization scale of $0.36\,\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$.
We investigate an extended chiral soliton model which includes $π, ρ, ω$ and $σ$ mesons as explicit degrees of freedom. The Lagrangian incorporates chiral symmetry and broken scale invariance. A scalar-isoscalar meson $σ$ is associated with a quarkonium dilaton field with a mass $\msig\approx 550 $MeV. We show that the scalar field with anomalous dimension slightly changes the static and electromagnetic properties of the nucleon. In contrast, it plays a significant role in nucleon-nucleon dynamics and gives an opportunity to describe well the two-nucleon interaction.
A soliton model for proton conductivity in Langmuir films is presented. The model contains three real scalar fields describing the hydrogen involved in the conduction, the hydrophilic head of the Langmuir film, and the water. Soliton solutions that describe proton motion along the hydrogen bonds are found. Under compression of the film, the distance between the minima of the proton potential and the strength of the hydrogen bonds between the film molecule and the water are changed. Such changes increase the probability of soliton creation. The model presented allows proton conductivity data in…
We describe the reaches on quartic $γγγγ$, $γγWW$, $γγZZ$, $γγγZ$, $γγt \bar{t}$ anomalous couplings at the LHC using intact protons in the final state measured in AFP in ATLAS or PPS in CMS-TOTEM.
The chiral Abelian Higgs model contains an interesting class of solitons found by Rubakov and Tavkhelidze. These objects carry non-zero fermion number $N_F$ (or Chern-Simons number $N_{CS}$, what is the same because of the chiral anomaly) and are stable for sufficiently large $N_F$. In this paper we study the properties of these anomalous solitons. We find that their energy-versus-fermion-number ratio is given by $E\sim N_{CS}^{3/4}$ or $E\sim N_{CS}^{2/3}$ depending on the structure of the scalar potential. For the former case we demonstrate that there is a lower bound on the soliton energy, …
We describe different physics topics which can be performed at the LHC using tagged intact protons, namely a better understanding of the Pomeron structure in terms of quarks and gluons, and the serach for quartic anomalous couplings.
We study the anomalous scale symmetry breaking effects on the proton mass in QCD due to quantum fluctuations at ultraviolet scales. We confirm that a novel contribution naturally arises as a part of the proton mass, which we call the quantum anomalous energy (QAE). We discuss the QAE origins in both lattice and dimensional regularizations and demonstrate its role as a scheme-and-scale independent component in the mass decomposition. We further argue that QAE role in the proton mass resembles a dynamical Higgs mechanism, in which the anomalous scale symmetry breaking field generates mass scales…
Nucleon electromagnetic form factors are considered in the framework of the generalized Skyrme model with dilaton-quarkonium field. In our recent publication we have got big discrepancies between calculated form factors and dipole approximation formula. Here we have reasonably good accordance between them in finite impulse region after vector meson dominance have been taken into account. Omega and Rho -meson have been included into only hadron structure of the photon.
The electro-magnetic form factors of the proton are calculated in a chiral soliton model with relativistic corrections. The magnetic form factor $G_M$ is shown to agree well with the new SLAC data for spacelike $Q^2$ up to 30 (GeV/c)$^2$ if superconvergence is imposed. The direct continuation through a Laurent series to the timelike region above the physical threshold is in fair agreement with the presently available set of data. The electric form factor $G_E$ is dominated by a zero in the few (GeV/c)$^2$ region which appears to be in conflict with the SLAC data.
We present some physics topics that can be studied at the LHC using proton tagging. We distinguish the QCD (Pomeron structure, BFKL analysis...) from the exploratory physics topics (HIggs boson, anomalous couplings between photons and $W/Z$ bosons
We show that under the assumption of dynamical symmetry breaking of electro weak interactions by a top quark condensate, motivated by the Top Mode Standard Model, the top quark in this effective theory can be considered then as chiral color soliton (qualiton). This is realized in an effective four-fermion interaction with chiral $SU(3)_c$ as well as $SU(2)_L\otimes U_Y(1)$ symmetry. In the pure top sector the qualiton consists of a top valence quark and a Dirac sea of top and anti-top quark coupled to a color octet of Goldstone pions. The mass spectra, isoscalar quadratic radii and the anomalo…
Triple gauge boson production at the LHC can be used to test the robustness of the Standard Model and provide useful information for VBF di-boson scattering measurement. Especially, any derivations from SM prediction will indicate possible new physics. In this paper we present a detailed Monte Carlo study on measuring WWW production in pure leptonic and semileptonic decays, and probing anomalous quartic gauge WWWW couplings at the CERN LHC and future hadron collider, with parton shower and detector simulation effects taken into account. Apart from cut-based method, multivariate boosted decisio…
We study the possibility for the process $pp \rightarrow pγp \rightarrow pW^-t(W^+\bar t)X$ with anomalous Wtb couplings in a model independent effective Lagrangian approach at the LHC. We find 95% confidence level bounds on the anomalous coupling parameters for various values of the integrated luminosity. The improved constraints on the anomalous Wtb couplings have been obtained compared to current limits.
We examine the potential of pp-> p gamma p -> p W q X reaction to probe anomalous WWgamma couplings at the LHC. We find 95% confidence level bounds on the anomalous coupling parameters with various values of the integrated luminosity. We show that the reaction pp -> p gamma p -> p W q X at the LHC highly improve the current limits.
We discuss recent suggestions on the resolution of the proton radius puzzle put forward in [1,2] and discovery of a nonperturbative quantum-electrodynamic contribution of order $(α/π)^5$ to lepton anomalous magnetic moments announced in [3,4]. We demonstrate that the ideas of [1, 2] do not resolve the proton radius puzzle. We explain why the nonperturbative correction calculated in [3,4] does not exist.
We show that a proposal which involves an effective radius derived from an effective potential that includes a linear extra-potential may solve both the proton and deuteron size puzzle. Moreover, this solution preserves the e-μ universality and helps to solve the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon too. Still, it is consistent with the rms magnetic radius of the proton and deuteron, the rms charge radius of both the ordinary and muonic C12 as well as the kaonic and pionic X-rays spectroscopy.
We study the anomaly induced effects of dense baryonic matter under rotation. We derive the anomalous terms that account for the chiral vortical effect in the low-energy effective theory for light Nambu-Goldstone modes. The anomalous terms lead to new physical consequences, such as the anomalous Hall energy current and spontaneous generation of angular momentum in a magnetic field (or spontaneous magnetization by rotation). In particular, we show that, due to the presence of such anomalous terms, the ground state of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) under sufficiently fast rotation becomes the …
Several years ago it was pointed out that the chiral soliton model allows naturally for satisfactory agreement with the experimentally well-determined proton magnetic form factor $G_M^p$. The corresponding result for the proton electric form factor at that time was in serious disagreement with the data because the calculated $G_E^p$ showed as a rather stable feature a zero for $q^2$ near 10 (GeV/c)$^2$ which was hard to avoid for reasonable choices of parameters, while the data at that time showed no indication for such a behaviour. Meanwhile, new data have confirmed those $G_E^p$ predictions …
We investigate the constraints on the anomalous quartic $ZZγγ$ couplings through the process $p p\to pγp\to p γq Z X$ at the LHC. Taking into consideration various forward detector acceptances and integrated LHC luminosities, we find 95% confidence level bounds on the anomalous coupling parameters. We show that the bounds on these couplings are at the order of $10^{-6}GeV^{-2}$ which are about four orders of magnitude more restricted with respect to current experimental bounds.
In this paper, we study the extent to which CP parity of a Higgs boson, and more generally its anomalous couplings to gauge bosons, can be measured at the LHC and a future electron-positron collider. We consider several processes, including Higgs boson production in gluon and weak boson fusion and production of a Higgs boson in association with an electroweak gauge boson. We consider decays of a Higgs boson including $ZZ, WW, γγ$, and $Z γ$. Matrix element approach to three production and decay topologies is developed and applied in the analysis. A complete Monte Carlo simulation of the above …
We calculate tree-level cross-sections for $W^{+}γ$ and $W^{+}W^{-}$ production in proton-antiproton collisions, with one $W$ decaying to leptons, with anomalous electroweak triple-boson coupling parameters $Δκ$ and $λ$. We compare the unpolarized cross-sections to those for a polarized proton beam, to study how a polarized proton beam would improve experimental tests of anomalous couplings.
The anomalous dimension for the gauge-invariant-canonical decomposition of the energy-momentum tensor for quarks and gluons is studied by the background field method. In particular, the consistency between the background field method and the renormalization in the gluonic sectors is investigated. The analysis shows that the naive gauge-invariant-decomposition has an inconsistency between its definition and the renormalization in the background field method. Although we try to consider a trick to overcome this inconsistency in computing the anomalous dimension, the gauge-parameter dependence re…
We estimate the contribution of nonperturbative quark-gluon chromomagnetic interaction to the high energy elastic proton-proton cross section at large momentum transfer. It is shown that this contribution is very large in the accessible kinematic region of the present experiments. We argue that Odderon which is the $P=C=-1$ partner of Pomeron, is governed by the spin-flip component related to the nonperturbative three-gluon exchange induced by the anomalous quark chromomagnetic moment. We discuss the possible spin effects in the elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering coming fro…
By supplementing supersymmetric SO(10) with an anomalous ${\cal U}(1)$ flavor symmetry and additional `matter' superfields carrying suitable ${\cal U}(1)$ charges, we explain the charged fermion mass hierarchies, the magnitudes of the CKM matrix elements, as well as the solar and atmospheric neutrino data. We stress bi-maximal vacuum neutrino mixings, and indicate how the small or large mixing angle MSW solution can be incorporated. The ${\cal U}(1)$ symmetry also implies that $τ_{p\to Kν}[SO(10)]\sim (10-100)\cdot τ_{p\to Kν}[{\rm minimal}~SU(5)]$.
We formulate the QCD critical point focusing effect on transverse velocity ($β_{t}$) dependence of antiproton to proton ($\bar{p}/p$) ratio, which was recently proposed by Asakawa {\it et al.} as an experimental signature of QCD critical point in high energy heavy ion collisions (HICs). For quantitative analysis, Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport model and THERMal heavy-IoN generATOR (THERMINATOR) are applied to calculate the corresponding $β_{t}$ dependence of $\bar{p}/p$ ratio for three gedanken focused isentropic trajectories with different focusing degree on Q…
We study the LHC sensitivity to new broad neutral resonances produced in two-photon fusion and decaying to a top quark pair, $γγ\to t\bar{t}$. This is probed in central exclusive $t\bar{t}$ production in proton-proton collisions, $pp \to p t\bar{t} p$. We use the tagging of the intact protons by PPS (CMS) and AFP (ATLAS) and consider the semi-leptonic $t\bar t$ channel. The sensitivity is also mapped onto a set of dimension-8 $γγt\bar{t}$ operators in the large mass limit. Using the kinematical correlations between the intact protons and the reconstructed $t\bar{t}$ system, we obtain a sensiti…
The sensitivities to the anomalous quartic gauge boson coupling $γγγZ$ are estimated via $γZ$ production with intact protons in the forward region at the LHC. Proton tagging proves to be a powerful tool to suppress the background, which allows consideration of the hadronic decays of the $Z$ boson in addition to the leptonic ones. We discuss the discovery potential for an integrated luminosity of $300\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ and $3000\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The sensitivity we obtain at $300\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ goes beyond the one expected from LHC bounds on the $Z\rightarrow γγγ$ decay by about three or…
I discuss the scope and naturalness of the proton mass decomposition (or sum rule) published in PRL74, 1071 (1995) and answer a few criticisms that appeared recently in the literature, focusing particularly on its interpretation and the quantum anomalous energy contribution. I comment on the so-called frame-independent or invariant-mass decomposition from the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. I stress the importance of measuring the quantum anomalous energy through experiments. Finally, I point out a large discrepancy in the scalar radius of the nucleon extracted from vector-meson productio…
Recently, a new mechanism, which explains why the three gauge coupling constants meet at a certain scale in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, has been proposed in a scenario of grand unified theories with anomalous $U(1)_A$ gauge symmetry. It is a non-trivial result that although there are many superheavy fields whose mass scales are below the unification scale, this mechanism explains this fact by means of one-loop renormalization group equations. Since the unification scale generically becomes below the usual GUT scale, $2\times 10^{16}$ GeV, and proton decay via dimension 5 operato…
We devise minimalistic gauged U(1)_X Froggatt-Nielsen models which at low-energy give rise to the recently suggested discrete gauge Z_6 symmetry, proton hexality, thus stabilizing the proton. Assuming three generations of right-handed neutrinos, with the proper choice of X-charges, we obtain viable neutrino masses. Furthermore, we find scenarios such that no X-charged hidden sector superfields are needed, which from a bottom-up perspective allows the calculation of g_string, g_X and G_SM's Kac-Moody levels. The only mass scale apart from M_grav is m_soft.
The characteristic predictions of chiral soliton models - the Skyrme model and its extentions - are discussed. The chiral soliton models prediction of dibaryon states with masses below NN-pion threshold is in qualitative agreement with recent evidence for the existence of narrow dibaryons in reactions of inelastic proton scattering on deuterons and two-photon radiation in proton-proton scattering. The connection between isovector magnetic momentum operator and mixed tensor of inertia of multiskyrmion, as well as between isoscalar magnetic momentum and orbital tensor of inertia valid for skyrmi…
We present a realistic supersymmetric SU(5) model combined with a non-anomalous U(1)_F symmetry. We find a set of U(1)_F charges which automatically lead to the realistic mass hierarchy and mixing patterns for quarks, leptons and neutrinos. All gauge anomalies, including the [U(1)_F]^3 anomaly, are cancelled in our model without invoking the Green-Schwarz mechanism or having exotic fields. Proton decay mediated by dimension 5 operators is automatically suppressed in our model, because the scale set by the largest right-handed neutrino mass is much less than the GUT scale.
We discuss how realistic supersymmetric models can be constructed by employing an anomalous ${\cal U}(1)$ flavor symmetry which also mediates supersymmetry breaking. A judicious choice of ${\cal U}(1)$ charges enables the first two squark families to be sufficiently heavy ($\stackrel{>}{_\sim}10$ TeV), so that flavor changing neutral currents as well as dimension five nucleon decay are adequately suppressed. Using the SU(5) example, the charged fermion mass hierarchies, magnitudes of the CKM matrix elements, as well as the observed neutrino oscillations are simultaneously accommodated. We esti…
The gauge dependence in the anomalous dimension of the gauge-invariant-canonical-energy-momentum tensor for proton is studied by the background field method. The naive calculation shows the problem, the absence of the counter term in the gluonic sectors. The analysis shows that the result [Chen et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 062001 (2009)] is derived from the background field method after we introduced a trick to avoid the problem except for the gluon-to-gluon sector; it is gauge dependent. The possible reason of this gauge-dependent result comes from the nontrivial treatment of the condition $…
We calculate the spin-polarizabilities of the nucleon by means of dispersion relation, where the pion photoproduction amplitude predicted by chiral soliton model is utilized. We consider the $Nπ$ and $Δπ$ channels in the pion-photoproduction amplitude, and also evaluate the contribution of the anomalous term of the $π^0γγ$ process. In a narrow decay-width limit of the $Δ$ particle the result coincides with that in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT) except for the interference part of the electric and magnetic amplitudes. A comparison with the multipole analysis is given.
We are considering the semi-classical string soliton solution of Gubser, Klebanov and Polyakov which represents highly excited states on the leading Regge trajectory, with large spin in $AdS_5$. A prescription relates this soliton solution with the corresponding field theory operators with many covariant derivatives, whose anomalous scaling dimension grows logarithmically with the space-time spin. We explicitly derive the dependence of anomalous dimension on spin for all leading and next-to-leading orders at strong coupling. We develop an iteration procedure which, in principle, allows to deri…
Higgs boson production in association with a photon ($H$+$γ$) offers a promising channel to test the Higgs boson to photon coupling at various energy scales. Its potential sensitivity to anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson has not been explored with the proton-proton collision data. In this paper, we reinterpret the latest ATLAS $H$+$γ$ resonance search results within the Standard Model effective field theory (EFT) framework, using 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. Constraints on the Wilson coefficients of dimension-six EFT…
We investigate the electric form factors and charge radii of the pentaquark baryons within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model. We consider the rotational $1/N_c$ and linear $m_s$ corrections, assuming isospin symmetry and employing the symmetry-conserving quantization. The flavor-decomposed charge densities of the $Θ^+$ are presented. The electric form factors and charge radii of the charged pentaquark baryons turn out to be very similar to those of the corresponding octet baryons. The charge radii of the neutral pentaquark baryons are obtained to be very tiny and positive. The st…
We study pion production from proton synchrotron radiation in the presence of strong magnetic fields. We derive the exact proton propagator from the Dirac equation in a strong magnetic field by explicitly including the anomalous magnetic moment. In this exact quantum-field approach the magnitude of pion synchrotron emission turns out to be much smaller than that obtained in the semi-classical approach. However, we also find that the anomalous magnetic moment of the proton greatly enhances the production rate about by two order magnitude.
In the present work, the energy spectrum and solution of Dirac's equation for the charged and neutral fermions taking into account interaction of the anomalous magnetic moments of particles with the external field are obtained. The total probability of the inverse beta- decay of proton in the presence of strong uniform magnetic field taking into account the anomalous magnetic moments of nucleons is found.
We discuss how an anomalous U(1) symmetry when appended to MSSM and SUSY GUTs [e.g. SU(5)] can help overcome a variety of puzzles related to charged fermion masses and mixings, flavor changing processes, proton decay and neutrino oscillations. Proton lifetime for SU(5) GUT, in particular, is predicted in a range accessible to the ongoing or planned searches.
The $HZγ$ coupling, which is highly sensitive to the new physics beyond the standard model, is studied through the process $pp\rightarrow pγp\rightarrow pHX$ at the LHC. To this purpose, an effective Lagrangian, in a model independent approach, with dimension six operators is considered in this paper. New interaction terms regarding beyond the standard model physics include the Higgs boson anomalous vertices in both CP-even and CP-odd structures. A detailed numerical analysis is performed to scrutinize the accurate constraints on the effective $HZγ$ couplings and to discuss how far the corresp…
The light-mass exotics with J^{PC}=1^{-+} observed at BNL and CERN may have a simple explanation as dynamically generated resonances in eta-prime pi rescattering in the final state interaction. This dynamics is mediated by the same anomalous glue which also generates the large mass of the eta-prime. OZI violating processes are also potentially important to eta-prime production in proton-proton collisions close to threshold.
We investigate parity-violating electroweak asymmetries in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons off protons within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model ($χ$QSM). We use as input the former results of the electromagnetic and strange form factors and newly calculated SU(3) axial-vector form factors, all evaluated with the same set of four parameters adjusted several years ago to general mesonic and baryonic properties. Based on this scheme, which yields positive electric and magnetic strange form factors with a $μ_s=(0.08-0.13)μ_N$, we determine the parity-violating asymmetri…
A proposed high energy Future Circular Hadron-Electron Collider would provide sufficient energy in a clean environment to probe di-Higgs production. Using this channel we show that the azimuthal angle correlation between the missing transverse energy and the forward jet is a very good probe for the non-standard $hhh$ and $hhWW$ couplings. We give the exclusion limits on these couplings as a function of integrated luminosity at a $95$\% C.L. using the fiducial cross sections. With appropriate error fitting methodology we find that the Higgs boson self coupling could be measured to be $g^{(1)}_{…
The Large Hadron Electron Collider and the Future Circular Collider-hadron electron with high center-of-mass energy and luminosity allow to better understand the Standard Model and to examine new physics beyond the Standard Model in the electroweak sector. Multi-boson processes permit for a measurement of the gauge boson self-interactions of the Standard Model that can be used to determine the anomalous gauge boson couplings. For this purpose, we present a study of the process $ep \rightarrow ν_{e} γγj$ at the Large Hadron Electron Collider with center-of-mass energies of 1.30, 1.98 TeV and at…
The target-independent suppression mechanism proposed as an explanation of the EMC-SMC `proton spin' effect is reviewed and compared to current experimental data. According to this proposal, the anomalous suppression observed in the first moment of the polarised proton structure function g_1^p is not a special property of the proton structure, but reflects an anomalously small value of the first moment of the QCD topological susceptibility. It is shown how this mechanism can be tested in semi-inclusive DIS processes in which a pion or D meson carrying a large target energy fraction z is detect…
We consider supersymmetric unification based on the gauge symmetry SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R supplemented by an anomalous U(1)_A gauge symmetry. Realistic fermion masses and mixings are realized, including large mixings in the neutrino sector. We also consider the supersymmetric flavor problem, gauge coupling unification and proton decay. The dominant proton decay mode is expected to be p-> e^+π^0 and the lifetime is estimated to be \sim 10^{34}-10^{35} years.
We disscuss a new nonperturbative mechanism for spin effects in high energy reactions with hadrons. This mechanism is based on the existence of a large anomalous quark chromomagnetic moment (AQCM) induced by the nontrivial topological structure of QCD vacuum. As an example, we estimate the contribution of this interaction to the single spin asymmetry (SSA) in the inclusive pion production in the proton-proton scattering. We show that SSA induced by AQCM is large and its value is in qualitative agreement with experimental data.
A natural consequence of the composite operator propagator-vertex description of deep inelastic scattering developed by the authors is that the anomalous suppression observed in the flavour singlet contribution to the first moment of the polarised proton structure function $g_1^p$ (the `proton spin' problem) is not a special property of the proton structure but is a target independent effect which can be related to an anomalous suppression in the QCD topological susceptibility. In this paper, it is shown how this target independent mechanism can be tested in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scatt…
The spin-dependent structure functions g_2 (x, Q^2) are investigated within the framework of the chiral quark soliton model. It turns out that the twist-3 part of g_2 (x, Q^2) gives nonnegligible contributions to the total distributions at the energy scale of Q^2 = 5 {GeV}^2 but mainly in the smaller x region only, so that the corresponding third moments \int_0^1 x^2 \bar{g}_2 (x, Q^2) dx are pretty small for both of the proton and neutron in conformity with the recent E155 data.
The ratio of electric to magnetic proton form factors G_E/G_M as measured in polarization transfer experiments shows a characteristic linear decrease with increasing momentum transfer Q^2. We present a simple argument how such a decrease arises naturally in chiral soliton models. For a detailed comparison of model results with experimentally determined form factors it is necessary to employ a boost from the soliton rest frame to the Breit frame. To enforce asymptotic counting rules for form factors, the model must be supplemented by suitably chosen interpolating powers n in the boost prescript…
A chiral soliton lattice (CSL), proposed as the ground state of rotating baryonic matter at a finite density, is shown to be unstable in a large parameter region for two flavors owing to pion condensations, leading to two types of non-Abelian (NA) CSL phases (dimer and deconfining phases). We determine the phase diagram where the dimer phase meets the other phases and QCD vacuum at three tricritical points. The critical angular velocity for NA-CSLs is lower than the $η$-CSL. Each NA soliton carries an isospin, and an antiferro-isospin chain is formed leading to gapless isospinons. The anomalou…
