The decays $B^{0}_{s} \to Jψπ^{+}π^{-}K^{+}K^{-}$ are studied using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The decays $B^{0}_{s} \to JψK^{*0}\bar{K^{*0}}$ and $B^{0}_{s} \to χ_{c1}(3872)K^{+}K^{-}$, where the $K^{+}K^{-}$ pair does not originate from a $ϕ$ meson, are observed for the first time. Precise measurements of the ratios of branching fractions between intermediate $χ_{c1}(3872)ϕ$, $J/ψK^{*0}\bar{K^{*0}}$, $ψ(2S) ϕ$ and $χ_{c1}(3872)K^{+}K^{-}$ states are reported. A structure denoted as $X(4740)$, is observed in the $J/ψϕ$ mass spectrum with a significance in excess of 5.3 standard deviations. In addition, the most precise single measurement of the mass of the $B^{0}_{s}$ meson is performed.
This document presents eight recent and new analyses from the LHCb experiment covering results on CKM angle $γ$ and high precision measurements on charm mixing parameters. In addition, the latest CP violation measurements in charm and beauty decays are reported.
Precision measurements of time-integrated CP violation in beauty decays permit a better understanding of the different mechanisms underlying CP violation. They allow to better constrain the Standard Model and probe for new physics. A selection of recent LHCb results that highlight different aspects of CP violation in $b$-hadron decays are presented here.
Recent measurements of the time-dependent CP violation are presented. The decays of $B_{s}^{0}$ mesons to $J/ψ\,K^+ K^-$ and $J/ψ\,π^+ π^-$ final states are used to measure CP-violating parameters with proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb$^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016.
The latest and improved measurements in $B^0_{(s)}\rightarrowμ^+ μ^-$ processes have been performed by LHCb using full Run 1 and Run 2 data. The measurement of the branching fraction of $B^0_{s}\rightarrowμ^+ μ^-$ is presented as the most precise single experiment measurement of such a rare process. While no significant excess is found for $B^0\rightarrowμ^+ μ^-$, an stringent upper limit is set for its braching fraction. Both results are in agreement with SM predictions and with previous results.
The beauty hadron decays is unique laboratory to study charmonium and charmonium-like states, such as the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ meson, other exotic states and the tensor D-wave $ψ_2(3823$) states. However the nature of many exotic charmonium-like candidates are still unknown. The most recent LHCb results related to b-hadron decays to charmonium states and obtained using large data samples collected during the Run 1 and Run 2 periods are presented. This includes the most precise determination of the mass and width of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state using the $B^{+} \to J/ψπ^{+}π^{-}K^{+}$ decays, observation…
LHCb is a dedicated heavy flavour physics precision experiment at the LHC searching for New Physics (NP) beyond the Standard Model (SM) through the study of very rare decays of beauty and charm-flavoured hadrons and precision measurements of CP-violating observables. In this review I will present a selection of recent precision measurements of CP-violating observables in the decays of beauty and charm-flavoured hadrons. These measurements are based on an integrated luminosity of up to $1.0 \rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by LHCb in 2011.
Precision measurements of beauty hadron decays are sensitive probes of the Standard Model and a promising way to look for new physics phenomena far beyond the energy scale accessible for direct production searches. This article reviews recent measurements of mixing and CP violation in beauty decays performed at the LHCb experiment that have been presented at the $55^{th}$ Rencontres de Moriond QCD conference.
Rare heavy flavor decays are an ideal place to search for the effects of potential new particles that modify the decay rates or the Lorentz structure of the decay vertices. The LHCb experiment, a dedicated heavy flavour experiment at the LHC at CERN. It has recorded the worlds largest sample of heavy meson and lepton decays. The status of the rare decay analyses with 1\,fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt s = 7\,$TeV and 1.1\,fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt s = 8\,$TeV of $pp$--collisions collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011 and 2012 is reviewed. The worlds most precise measurements of the angular structure of $B^0\r…
The LHCb collaboration has recently performed a first measurement of the angular production asymmetry in the distribution of beauty quarks and anti-quarks at a hadron collider. We calculate the corresponding standard model prediction for this asymmetry at fixed-order in perturbation theory. Our results show good agreement with the data, which is provided differentially for three bins in the invariant mass of the $b \bar b$ system. We also present similar predictions for both beauty-quark and charm-quark final states within the LHCb acceptance for a collision energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13 \, {\rm Te…
These proceedings summarize the LHCb measurements of charm- and beauty-hadron production in pPb collisions. The studies are made down to very low-\pt of the observed heavy-flavor hadrons using fully reconstructed decays. Nuclear matter effects are quantified via nuclear modification factors and forward-backward production ratios. A strong suppression is observed at positive rapidity (proton beam direction), while a modest or no suppression is seen for the backward rapidity (lead beam direction). The nuclear parton distributions of the lead nucleus is constrained down to Bjorken-$x\sim10^{-5}$,…
Rare decays of beauty and charm hadrons offer a rich playground to make precise tests of the Standard Model and look for New Physics at the level of quantum corrections. A review of recent LHCb results will be presented.
The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has performed accurate measurements of mixing and CP violation in the neutral B mesons, and also of rare processes happening in electroweak FCNC-suppressed neutral B-mesons decays. This contribution focuses on the latest results from ATLAS, including measurements of rare processes $B^0_s \to μ^+μ^-$ and $B^0 \to μ^+μ^-$, and measurements of CP violation in $B^0_s \to J/ψϕ$.
Motivated by the latest discovery of a new tetraquark $T_{cc}^+$ with two charm quarks and two light antiquarks by LHCb Collaboration, we investigated the $DD^*$ hadronic molecule interpretation of $T_{cc}^+$. By calculation, the mass and the decay width of this new structure $T_{cc}^+$ can be understood in one-meson exchange potential model. The binding energies for these $DD^*$ hadronic molecules with $J^P=1^+$ are around $1MeV$. Besides, we also studied the possible beauty-partners $T_{bb}(10598)$ of hadronic molecule $T^+_{cc}$, which may be feasible in future LHCb experiments.
The study of $CP$ violation in the beauty hadron sector is a promising approach to search for the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. Several recent measurements in this area from the LHCb experiment are reported in these proceedings. These are based on the Run-I dataset of 3~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at proton-proton centre of mass energies of 7 and 8~TeV.
The LHCb experiment at CERN is currently completing its first big data taking campaign at the LHC started in 2009. It has been collecting data at more than 2.5 times its nominal design luminosity value and with a global efficiency of ~92%. Even more striking, the efficiency between online and offline recorded luminosity, obtained by comparing the data quality output, is close to 99%, which highlights how well the detector, its data acquisition system and its control system have been performing despite much harsher and more variable conditions than initially foreseen. In this paper, the excelle…
Rare flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) decays of top, beauty and charm quarks can provide a powerful probe for as yet unobserved particles. Recent results on FCNC $b \to s$, $c \to u$ and $t$ transitions from the LHC experiments are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the angular distribution of the $B^{0} \to K^{*0} μ^{+} μ^{-}$ decay, where a measurement performed by LHCb shows a local discrepancy of 3.7 standard deviations with respect to the SM prediction. Using the decay $B^{+} \to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}γ$, LHCb have also been able to demonstrate the polarisation of photons produced …
Observation in astronomy suggests that our Universe contains an abundance of matter over antimatter, which can only be explained if the combined CP symmetry is violated. Studies of CP violation have driven the flavor physics with the aim of testing the Standard Model of particle physics and searching for physics beyond. CP violation is discovered in strange, beauty and charm meson systems, however no conclusive sign of CP violation in baryon decays has been observed yet. This review summarizes CP violation studies performed by the LHCb experiment in charmless decays and rare decays of beauty b…
This paper presents the design of the LHCb trigger and its performance on data taken at the LHC in 2011. A principal goal of LHCb is to perform flavour physics measurements, and the trigger is designed to distinguish charm and beauty decays from the light quark background. Using a combination of lepton identification and measurements of the particles' transverse momenta the trigger selects particles originating from charm and beauty hadrons, which typically fly a finite distance before decaying. The trigger reduces the roughly 11\,MHz of bunch-bunch crossings that contain at least one inelasti…
The $B_s^0-\bar{B}_s^0$ system can be used to look for new sources of CP violation. Time-dependent CP violation measurements of beauty mesons allow the determination of the mixing induced CP-violating phase, $ϕ_s$. The angular analysis of the $B_s^0\rightarrow ϕϕ$ decay is presented, along with two $B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψh^+h^-$ decays, where the two hadrons are either a pair of kaons or a pair of pions. The analyses are based on data collected with the LHCb detector between $2011$ and $2016$.
We present studies from the LHCb experiment of decays of the type H_b to H_c X, where H_b represents a beauty hadron (B+, B0 or Lambda_b) and H_c a charmed hadron (D0, D(*)+, Ds or Lambda_c). Such decays are important for the determination of the CKM angle gamma, a key goal of the LHCb physics programme. We exploit the data accumulated in 2010, and in the early months of the 2011 run. We report on the observation of new decay modes, and first measurements on the road to a precise determination of gamma.
We perform a general SU(3)$_F$ analysis of $b\rightarrow c\bar{c}s(d)$ decays of members of the beauty baryon antitriplet to a member of the light baryon octet and a singlet. Under several reasonable assumptions we found $\left\vert \mathcal{A}(Ξ_b^0\rightarrow ΛS)/ \mathcal{A}(Ξ_b^0\rightarrow Ξ^0 S)\right\vert\approx 1/\sqrt{6}\, \left\vert V_{cb}^* V_{cd} / (V_{cb}^* V_{cs})\right\vert$ and $\left\vert\mathcal{A}(Λ_b\rightarrow Σ^0 S)/\mathcal{A}(Λ_b\rightarrow ΛS)\right\vert \sim 0.02$. These two relations have been recently probed by LHCb for the case of $S=J/ψ$. The former agrees with th…
Beauty baryons are being observed in large numbers in the LHCb detector. The rich kinematic distributions of their multibody decays are therefore becoming accessible and provide us with new opportunities to search for CP violation. We analyse the angular distributions of some three- and four-body decays of spin-$1/2$ baryons using the Jacob-Wick helicity formalism. The asymmetries that provide access to small differences of CP-odd phases between decay amplitudes of identical CP-even phases are notably discussed. The understanding gained on processes featuring specific resonant intermediate sta…
The study of $C\!P$ violation in decays of beauty- and charm-hadrons provides a fundamental test of the predictions of the Standard Model (SM) and represents a sensitive probe to search for physics effects that cannot be described within the SM. In these proceedings, precision measurements are presented of several observables related to the so-called unitary triangles, that arise from the unitarity requirements on the 3x3 Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix describing the quark mixing. Moreover, recent measurements of $C\!P$ violation in beauty- and charm-hadrons are illustrated. In particular, a…
All the available experimental information on open charm and beauty mesons is used to classify the observed states in heavy quark doublets. The masses of some of the still unobserved states are predicted, in particular in the beauty sector. Adopting an effective Lagrangian approach based on the heavy quark and chiral symmetry, individual decay rates and ratios of branching fractions are computed, with results useful to assign the quantum numbers to recently observed charmed states which still need to be properly classified. Implications and predictions for the corresponding beauty mesons are p…
Beauty tetraquark states $X(\bar b q'q'' \bar q )$ composed of $ \bar b s u \bar d$, $\bar b d s \bar u$, and $\bar b u d \bar s$, are unique that all the four valence quarks are different. Although the claim of existence of the first two states by D0 was not confirmed by data from LHCb, the possibility of such states still generated a lot of interests and should be pursued further. Non-observation of $X(\bar b q'q'' \bar q )$ states by LHCb may be just due to a still lower production rate than the limit of LHCb or at some different mass ranges. In this work we use light quark $SU(3)$ flavor s…
The LHCb experiment is designed to study the decays and properties of heavy flavoured hadrons produced in the forward region from proton-proton collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. During Run 1, it has recorded the world's largest data sample of beauty and charm hadrons, enabling precise studies into the spectroscopy of such particles, including discoveries of new states and measurements of their masses, widths and quantum numbers. An overview of recent LHCb results in the area of exotic hadron spectroscopy is presented, focussing on the discovery of the first pentaquark states in the…
Tree-level $b$ decays play a critical role in characterising the quark flavour sector, and exposing possible effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. These proceedings cover recent results from the LHCb experiment on semileptonic $b$ baryon decays, $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast-})$ using three-prong hadronic $τ$ decays, $CP$ observables in $B^- \to D^{(\ast)}h^-$ decays, and an updated combination on the CKM angle $γ$.

The recent discovery, by the LHCb collaboration, of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ doubly charmed baryon, has renewed interest in the spectroscopy of doubly heavy hadrons. Experimentally, however, searches for such states appear highly challenging. The reconstructed final states tend to involve multiple heavy flavoured (beauty or charm) hadrons, so the yield for any exclusive decay mode will be suppressed to unobservably low levels by the product of several branching fractions, each of which is typically $10^{-3}$--$10^{-2}$. Noting that decays of double beauty hadrons are the only possible source of $B_c^…
A novel observable measuring the $C\!P$ asymmetry in multi-body decays of heavy mesons, which is called the forward-backward asymmetry induced $C\!P$ asymmetry (FBI-$C\!P$A), $A_{CP}^{FB}$, is introduced. This observable has the dual advantages that 1) it can isolate the $C\!P$ asymmetry associated with the interference of the $S$- and $P$-wave amplitude from that associated with the $S$- or $P$-wave amplitude alone; 2) it can effectively almost double the statistics comparing to the conventionally defined regional $C\!P$ asymmetry. We also suggest to perform the measurements of FBI-$C\!P$A in…
Rare heavy flavor decays provide stringent tests of the Standard Model of particle physics and allow to test for possible new Physics scenarios. The LHCb experiment at CERN is the ideal place for these searches as it has recorded the worlds largest sample of beauty mesons. The status of the rare decay analyses with 1\invfb of $\sqrt s = 7\tev $ of $pp$--collisions collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011 is reviewed. The worlds most precise measurements of the angular structure of \BdToKstmm decays is discussed, as well as the isospin asymmetry measurement in $\decay{B}{\kaon^{(*)} \mup\mun}$ …
This review reports preliminary results of time-dependent measurements of decays of B^0 mesons and B^0_s mesons coming from the analysis of about 36 pb^-1 of data collected by the LHCb experiment during the 2010 run of the Large Hadron Collider at sqrt(s)=7 TeV.
The LHCb approach for a precise determination of the CKM angle $γ$ from tree--level decays is presented. Up to 16 independent determinations, using a variety of beauty and charm mesons decay modes, are available at LHCb. Not all of them have the same sensitivity to $γ$. The best accuracy is reached by combining all of the available results. These proceedings review some of the independent determinations used in the combination and present the latest combined result available, as of Summer 2018.
LHCb has started its charm physics programme using the data taken at the LHC. The first measurements of open charm production cross-sections for proton proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7 \tev$ are presented. The cross-sections of the \PDzero, $\PDstar^+$, \PDplus, and \PDsplus mesons are found to be in broad agreement with theory predictions. The prospects for measurements of charm mixing, CP and T violation in decays of neutral \PD mesons at LHCb are discussed. Furthermore, plans for CP violation measurements using charged \PD mesons are presented. Most analyses are expected to yield results im…
The LHCb experiment is one of four major experiments at the LHC. Despite being designed for the study of beauty and charm particles, it has made important contributions in other areas, such as the production and decay of $W$ and $Z$ bosons. Such measurements can be used to study and constrain parton distribution functions, as well as to test perturbative quantum chromodynamics in hard scattering processes. The angular structure of $Z$ boson decays to leptons can also be studied and used to measure the weak mixing angle. The phase space probed by LHCb is particularly sensitive to this quantity,…
Beauty quarks are considered as one of the best probes of the strongly interacting medium created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions because they are predominantly produced via initial hard scatterings. Our measurements of B mesons productions provide information on the diffusion of beauty quarks and the flavor dependence of in-medium energy loss. In these studies, clarifying the hadronization mechanism is crucial for understanding the transport properties of beauty quarks. We propose to show our experimental results on three sets of particles: nonprompt $J/ψ$ and $D^0$, $B^0_s$ and $B^+$, a…
The LHCb experiment is designed to perform flavour physics measurements at the Large Hadron Collider. Using data collected during the 2010 run, we reconstruct a sample of $H_b\rightarrow h^+h'^-$ decays, where $H_b$ can be either a $B^0$ meson, a $B_s^0$ meson or a $Λ_b$ baryon, while $h$ and $h^\prime$ stand for $π$, $K$ or $p$. We provide preliminary values of the direct $\mathcal{CP}$ asymmetries of the neutral $B^0$ and $B_s^0$ mesons $A_{CP} (B^0\rightarrow K^+π^-) = -0.074 \pm 0.033\mathrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.008\mathrm{(syst.)}$ and $A_{CP}(B_s^0\rightarrowπ^+K^-)=0.15 \pm 0.19\mathrm{(stat.…

The study of $C\!P$ violation in decays of neutral $B$ mesons provides an important test of the Standard Model (SM) predictions and it is a sensitive probe to search for non-SM physics. In these proceedings I present measurements of $C\!P$ violation in the neutral $B$ meson system. The discussed analyses are based on $pp$-collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ or 3 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ recorded by the LHCb experiment.
LHCb measurements of $B_{d,s} \to J/ψ+ X$ are shown to be consistent with historical data on scalar and axial mesons below 2 GeV. This is in contrast to some recent interpretations of these data. Further tests of our hypotheses in other $B_{u,d,s} \to J/ψ+ X$ decay modes are suggested.
Measurements of the second Fourier harmonic coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distributions of prompt and nonprompt D$^0$ mesons produced in pp and pPb collisions are presented. Nonprompt D$^0$ mesons come from beauty hadron decays. The data samples are collected by the CMS experiment at nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of 13 and 8.16 TeV, respectively. In high multiplicity pp collisions, $v_2$ signals for prompt charm hadrons are reported for the first time, and are found to be comparable to those for light-flavor hadron species over a transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) range of 2…
The ATLAS, CMS and LHCb experiments will perform extensive searches for physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM). The investigation of decays of beauty hadrons represents an alternative and complementary approach to the direct BSM searches. A particularly promising observable for the search of New Physics (NP) in $B-$hadron decays, is the measurement of the branching ratio of the decay $B_S\to μ^{+} μ^{-}$. This observable is sensitive to physics BSM with new scalar or pseudoscalar effective operators, such as theories involving an extended Higgs sector. Here the prospects of the ATLAS, CMS and…
