We extend to the category of relative regular holonomic modules on a manifold $X$, parametrized by a curve $S$, the Hermitian duality functor (or conjugation functor) of Kashiwara. We prove that this functor is an equivalence with the similar category on the conjugate manifold $\overline X$, parametrized by the same curve. As a byproduct we introduce the notion of regular holonomic relative distribution.
We show the compatibility between the moderate or nearby cycle functor for regular holonomic $\mathcal{D}$-modules, as defined by Beilinson, Kashiwara and Malgrange, and the Hermitian duality functor, as defined by Kashiwara.
We introduce the formal extension of the Whitney functor and the polynomial extension of the tempered cohomology functor, and prove a natural topological duality between them.
A functor of sets $\mathbb X$ over the category of $K$-commutative algebras is said to be an affine functor if its functor of functions, $\mathbb A_{\mathbb X}$, is reflexive and $\mathbb X=\Spec \mathbb A_{\mathbb X}$. We prove that affine functors are equal to a direct limit of affine schemes and that affine schemes, formal schemes, the completion of affine schemes along a closed subscheme, etc., are affine functors. Endowing an affine functor $\mathbb X$ with a functor of monoids structure is equivalent to endowing $\mathbb A_{\mathbb X}$ with a functor of bialgebras structure. If $\mathbb …
In the setting of global geometric Langlands, we show that miraculous duality on the stack of principal bundles on a curve intertwines the functor of Poincare series with the dual functor to Whittaker coefficients. We construct, for arbitrary parabolic subgroups, Jacquet functors controlling constant terms of Poincare series and Whittaker coefficients of Eisenstein series in local terms.
Let X_1 and X_2 be schemes of finite type over a field of characteristic 0. Let Q be an object in the category D-mod(X_1\times X_2) and consider the functor F:D-mod(X_1)->Dmod(X_2) defined by Q. Assume that F admits a right adjoint also defined by an object P in D-mod(X_1\times X_2). The question that we pose and answer in this paper is how P is related to the Verdier dual of Q. We subsequently generalize this question to the case when X_1 and X_2 are no longer schemes but Artin stacks, where the situation becomes much more interesting.
In the first part we deepen the six-functor theory of (holonomic) logarithmic D-modules, in particular with respect to duality and pushforward along projective morphisms. Then, inspired by work of Ogus, we define a logarithmic analogue of the de Rham functor, sending logarithmic D-modules to certain graded sheaves on the so-called Kato-Nakayama space. For holonomic modules we show that the associated sheaves have finitely generated stalks and that the de Rham functor intertwines duality for D-modules with a version of Poincaré-Verdier duality on the Kato-Nakayama space. Finally, we explain how…
This paper studies the sliced nearby cycle functor and its commutation with duality. Over a Henselian discrete valuation ring, we show that this commutation holds, confirming a prediction of Deligne. As an application we give a new proof of Beilinson's theorem that the vanishing cycle functor commutes with duality up to twist. Over an excellent base scheme, we show that the sliced nearby cycle functor commutes with duality up to modification of the base. We deduce that duality preserves universal local acyclicity over an excellent regular base. We also present Gabber's theorem that local acycl…
We generalize the adjunction between the functors $Rf_*$ and $f^!$ of derived categories of quasi-coherent sheaves for proper morphisms $f\colon X \to Y$ of Noetherian schemes to the following situation: Let $f$ be a finite type morphism and let $Z' \subseteq X$ and $Z \subseteq Y$ be closed subsets such that $f$ restricts to a proper morphism $f'\colon Z'\to Z$ of $f$. Then the functor $Rf_*$ is left adjoint to $RΓ_{Z'}f^!$ when considered as functors between complexes supported on $Z'$ or $Z$.
Let $Bun_G(X)$ be the moduli stack of $G$-torsors on a smooth projective curve $X$ for a reductive group $G$. We prove a conjecture made by Drinfeld-Wang and Gaitsgory on the Deligne-Lusztig duality for D-modules on $Bun_G(X)$. This conjecture relates Drinfeld-Gaitsgory's pseudo-identity functors to the enhanced Eisenstein series and geometric constant term functors on $DMod(Bun_G(X))$. We also prove a "second adjointness" result for these enhanced functors.
A fundamental result of Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel states that on flag varieties and related spaces, a certain modified version of the category of l-adic perverse sheaves exhibits a phenomenon known as Koszul duality. The modification essentially consists of discarding objects whose stalks carry a nonsemisimple action of Frobenius. In this paper, we prove that a number of common sheaf functors (various pull-backs and push-forwards) induce corresponding functors on the modified category or its triangulated analogue. In particular, we show that these functors preserve semisimplicity of the Frobe…
Let E be a locally free, rank n bimodule over a smooth projective scheme X, and let A be the non-commutative symmetric algebra generated by E. We construct an internal Hom functor on the category of graded right A-modules. When E has rank 2, we prove that A is Gorenstein by computing the right derived functors of the internal Hom functor. When X is a smooth projective variety, we use the Gorensteinness of A to prove a version of Serre duality on Proj A, the non-commutative P^1 bundle defined by A.
We study Translation functors and Wall-Crossing functors on infinite dimensional representations of a complex semisimple Lie algebra using D-modules. This functorial machinery is then used to prove the Endomorphism-theorem and the Structure-theorem, two important results established earlier by W. Soergel in a totally different way. Other applications to the category O of Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand are given, and some conjectural relationships between Koszul duality, Verdier duality and convolution functors are discussed. A geometric interpretation of tilting modules is given.
We show that the failure of the usual Verdier duality on Bun(G) leads to a new duality functor on the category of D-modules, and we study its relation to the operation of Eisenstein series.
We identify the category Shv_{Nilp}(Bun_G) of automorphic sheaves with nilpotent singular support with its own dual, and relate this structure to the Serre functor on Shv_{Nilp}(Bun_G) and miraculous duality.
In this largely expository paper we extend properties of the homological duality functor $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ where ${\mathcal H}$ is the Hecke algebra of a reductive $p$-adic group, to the case where it is the Hecke algebra of a finite central extension of a reductive $p$-adic group. The most important properties being that $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ is concentrated in a single degree for irreducible representations and that it gives rise to Schneider--Stuhler duality for Ext groups (a Serre functor like property). Along the way we also study Grothendieck--Serre dualit…
We develop Tannaka duality theory for dg categories. To any dg functor from a dg category $\mathcal{A}$ to finite-dimensional complexes, we associate a dg coalgebra $C$ via a Hochschild homology construction. When the dg functor is faithful, this gives a quasi-equivalence between the derived dg categories of $\mathcal{A}$-modules and of $C$-comodules. When $\mathcal{A}$ is Morita fibrant (i.e. an idempotent-complete pre-triangulated category), it is thus quasi-equivalent to the derived dg category of compact $C$-comodules. We give several applications for motivic Galois groups.
The aim of this paper is to establish a duality between the category of discrete groupoids and the category of geometrically transitive commutative Hopf algebroids in the sense of P. Deligne and A. Bruguières. In one direction we have the usual contravariant functor which assigns to each Hopf algebroid its characters groupoid (the fiber groupoid at the ground field). In the other direction we construct the contravariant functor which associated to each discrete groupoid its Hopf algebroid of representative functions. This duality extends the well known duality between discrete groups and commu…
We construct a canonical pseudofunctor ^# on the category of finite-type maps of (say) connected noetherian universally catenary finite-dimensional separated schemes, taking values in the category of Cousin complexes. This pseudofunctor is a concrete approximation to the restriction of the Grothendieck Duality pseudofunctor ^! to the full subcategory of the derived category having Cohen-Macaulay complexes as objects (a subcategory equivalent to the category of Cousin complexes, once a codimension function has been fixed). Specifically, for Cousin complexes M and any scheme map f:X -> Y as abov…
Let $X$ be a finite connected simplicial complex, and let $δ$ be a perversity (i.e., some function from integers to integers). One can consider two categories: (1) the category of perverse sheaves cohomologically constructible with respect to the triangulation, and (2) the category of sheaves constant along the perverse simplices ($δ$-sheaves). We interpret the categories (1) and (2) as categories of modules over certain quadratic (and even Koszul) algebras $A(X,δ)$ and $B(X,δ)$ respectively, and we prove that $A(X,δ)$ and $B(X,δ)$ are Koszul dual to each other. We define the $δ$-perverse topo…
In [GM1], we defined a G_R-K_C invariant subset C(S) of G_C for each K_C-orbit S on every flag manifold G_C/P and conjectured that the connected component C(S)_0 of the identity would be equal to the Akhiezer-Gindikin domain D if S is of nonholomorphic type by computing many examples. In this paper, we first prove (in Theorem 1.3 and Corollary 1.4) this conjecture for the open K_C-orbit S on an ``arbitrary'' flag manifold generalizing the result of Barchini. This conjecture for closed S was solved in [WZ1], [WZ2] (Hermitian cases) and [FH] (non-Hermitian cases). We also deduce an alternative p…
This paper is a contribution to the study of relative holonomic $\mathcal{D}$-modules. Contrary to the absolute case, the standard $t$-structure on holonomic $\mathcal{D}$-modules is not preserved by duality and hence the solution functor is no longer $t$-exact with respect to the canonical, resp. middle-perverse, $t$-structures. We provide an explicit description of these dual $t$-structures. When the parameter space is 1-dimensional, we use this description to prove that the solution functor as well as the relative Riemann-Hilbert functor are $t$-exact with respect to the dual $t$-structure …
A classical result of Tannaka duality is the fact that a coalgebra over a field can be reconstructed from its category of finite dimensional representations by using the forgetful functor which sends a representation to its underlying vector space. There is also a corresponding recognition result, which characterizes those categories equipped with a functor to finite dimensional vector spaces which are equivalent to the category of finite dimensional representations of a coalgebra. In this paper we study a generalization of these questions to an arbitrary cosmos, that is, a complete and cocomp…
We give geometric descriptions of the category C_k(n,d) of rational polynomial representations of GL_n over a field k of degree d for d less than or equal to n, the Schur functor and Schur-Weyl duality. The descriptions and proofs use a modular version of Springer theory and relationships between the equivariant geometry of the affine Grassmannian and the nilpotent cone for the general linear groups. Motivated by this description, we propose generalizations for an arbitrary connected complex reductive group of the category C_k(n,d) and the Schur functor.
