备注:
Due to a bug in our code, our calculation of the completeness and interloper fraction of the group members was not correct, which resulted in our choice of a low background B=2.5. In this new version of the paper, we updated results with the theoretical fiducial background B=10. Most of the changes in the figures are virtually too small to notice. This version supersedes the one published in ApJ
We extend the halo-based group finder developed by \citet[][]{Yang2005a} to use data {\it simultaneously} with either photometric or spectroscopic redshifts. A mock galaxy redshift survey constructed from a high-resolution N-body simulation is used to evaluate the performance of this extended group finder. For galaxies with magnitude ${\rm z\le 21}$ and redshift $0<z\le 1.0$ in the DESI legacy imaging surveys (the Legacy Surveys), our group finder successfully identifies more than 60\% of the members in about $90\%$ of halos with mass $\ga 10^{12.5}\msunh$. Detected groups with mass $\ga 10^{12.0}\msunh$ have a purity (the fraction of true groups) greater than 90\%. The halo mass assigned to each group has an uncertainty of about 0.2 dex at the high mass end $\ga 10^{13.5}\msunh$ and 0.40 dex at the low mass end. Groups with more than 10 members have a redshift accuracy of $\sim 0.008$. We apply this group finder to the Legacy Surveys DR8 and find 5.2 Million groups with at least 3 members. About 387,000 of these groups have at least 10 members. The resulting catalog containing 3D coordinates, richness, halo masses, and total group luminosities, is made publicly available.
We perform a semi-automated search for strong gravitational lensing systems in the 9,000 deg$^2$ Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS), part of the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys (Dey et al.). The combination of the depth and breadth of these surveys are unparalleled at this time, making them particularly suitable for discovering new strong gravitational lensing systems. We adopt the deep residual neural network architecture (He et al.) developed by Lanusse et al. for the purpose of finding strong lenses in photometric surveys. We compile a training set that consists of known lensing systems …
The DESI Legacy Survey is a digital sky survey with a large footprint compared to other Earth-based surveys, covering both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. This paper shows the distribution of the spin directions of spiral galaxies imaged by DESI Legacy Survey. A simple analysis of dividing nearly 1.3$\cdot10^6$ spiral galaxies into two hemispheres shows a higher number of galaxies spinning counterclockwise in the Northern hemisphere, and a higher number of galaxies spinning clockwise in the Southern hemisphere. That distribution is consistent with previous observations, but uses a far l…

Based on the photometric redshift catalog of Zou H. et al. (2019), we apply a fast clustering algorithm to identify 540,432 galaxy clusters at $z\lesssim1$ in the DESI legacy imaging surveys, which cover a sky area of about 20,000 deg$^2$. Monte-Carlo simulations indicate that the false detection rate of our detecting method is about 3.1\%. The total masses of galaxy clusters are derived using a calibrated richness--mass relation that are based on the observations of X-ray emission and Sunyaev \& Zel'dovich effect. The median redshift and mass of our detected clusters are about 0.53 and $1.23\…
Combining our knowledge of halo structure and internal kinematics from cosmological dark matter simulations and the distribution of halo interlopers in projected phase space measured in cosmological galaxy simulations, we develop MAGGIE, a prior- and halo-based, probabilistic, abundance matching (AM) grouping algorithm for doubly complete subsamples (in distance and luminosity) of flux-limited samples. We test MAGGIE-L and MAGGIE-M (in which group masses are derived from AM applied to the group luminosities and stellar masses, respectively) on groups of at least three galaxies extracted from a…
We undertook a search for new dwarf galaxies in the vicinity of relatively isolated nearby galaxies with distances $D < 12$ Mpc and stellar masses in the $2\times10^{11}-3\times10^8~M_{\odot}$ interval, using the data from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys. Around the 46 considered Local Volume galaxies, $67$ new candidates for satellites of these galaxies were found. About half of them are classified as spheroidal dwarfs of low surface brightness. The new galaxies are included in the Local Volume database (LVGDB), which now contains 1421 objects, being 63% more than the Updated Nearby Galaxy Ca…
We characterise the selection cuts and clustering properties of a magnitude-limited sample of bright galaxies that is part of the Bright Galaxy Survey (BGS) of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) using the ninth data release of the Legacy Imaging Surveys (DR9). We describe changes in the DR9 selection compared to the DR8 one as explored in Ruiz-Macias et al. (2021). We also compare the DR9 selection in three distinct regions: BASS/MzLS in the north Galactic Cap (NGC), DECaLS in the NGC, and DECaLS in the south Galactic Cap (SGC). We investigate the systematics associated with the s…
We investigate the ability of current implementations of galaxy group finders to recover colour-dependent halo occupation statistics. To test the fidelity of group catalogue inferred statistics, we run three different group finders used in the literature over a mock that includes galaxy colours in a realistic manner. Overall, the resulting mock group catalogues are remarkably similar, and most colour-dependent statistics are recovered with reasonable accuracy. However, it is also clear that certain systematic errors arise as a consequence of correlated errors in group membership determination,…

In a recent study, we developed a method to model the impact of photometric redshift uncertainty on the two-point correlation function (2PCF). In this method, we can obtain both the intrinsic clustering strength and the photometric redshift errors simultaneously by fitting the projected 2PCF with two integration depths along the line-of-sight. Here we apply this method to the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys Data Release 8 (LS DR8), the largest galaxy sample currently available. We separate galaxies into 20 samples in 8 redshift bins from $z=0.1$ to $z=1.0$, and a few $\rm z$-band absolute magnitud…
Luminous Red Galaxies, or LRGs, are representative of the most massive galaxies and were originally selected in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey as good tracers of large scale structure. They are dominated by by uniformly old stellar populations, have low star formation rates, early type morphologies, and little cold gas. Despite having old stellar populations and little in situ star formation, studies have shown that they have grown their stellar mass since z=1, implying that they grow predominantly via the accretion of satellites. Tests of this picture have been limited because of the lack of de…

The Deep Extragalactic VIsible Legacy Survey (DEVILS) is a large spectroscopic campaign at the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) aimed at bridging the near and distant Universe by producing the highest completeness survey of galaxies and groups at intermediate redshifts ($0.3<z<1.0$). Our sample consists of $\sim$60,000 galaxies to Y$<$21.2mag, over $\sim$6deg$^{2}$ in three well-studied deep extragalactic fields (Cosmic Origins Survey field, COSMOS, Extended Chandra Deep Field South, ECDFS and the X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission Large-Scale Structure region, XMM-LSS - all Large Synoptic Survey Tele…
We present the biggest up-to-date sample of edge-on galaxies with B/PS bulges and X-structures. The sample was prepared using images from the DESI Legacy catalogue and contains about 2000 galaxies. To find suitable candidates in catalogue, we made the assumption that the residues (original images minus model) of galaxies with B/PS bulges should exhibit a characteristic X-shape. Galaxies with such features were selected by eye and then used as input data for a neural network training, which was applied to a bigger sample of edge-on galaxies. Using the available data and the photometric models f…
We study the evolution of galaxies and the circumgalactic medium (CGM) through cosmic time by correlating $\sim50,000$ MgII absorbers, tracers of cool gas ($\sim10^{4}$~K), detected in the SDSS quasar spectra with galaxies detected in the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys. By doing so, we extract the properties of galaxies associated with absorbers from redshift 0.4 to 1.3 with effectively $\sim 15,000$ pairs and explore the covering fraction of MgII absorbers as a function of galaxy type, stellar mass, impact parameter, and redshift. We find that the gas covering fraction increases with stellar mas…
In this paper we present photometric redshift (photo-$z$) estimates for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Legacy Imaging Surveys, currently the most sensitive optical survey covering the majority of the extra-galactic sky. Our photo-$z$ methodology is based on a machine-learning approach, using sparse Gaussian processes augmented with Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) that allow regions of parameter space to be identified and trained separately in a purely data-driven way. The same GMMs are also used to calculate cost-sensitive learning weights that mitigate biases in the spectrosco…

We describe a pilot survey conducted with the Mopra 22-m radio telescope in preparation for the Millimeter Astronomy Legacy Team Survey at 90 GHz (MALT90). We identified 182 candidate dense molecular clumps using six different selection criteria and mapped each source simultaneously in 16 different lines near 90 GHz. We present a summary of the data and describe how the results of the pilot survey shaped the design of the larger MALT90 survey. We motivate our selection of target sources for the main survey based on the pilot detection rates and demonstrate the value of mapping in multiple line…
We investigate the cool gas absorption in galaxy clusters by cross-correlating MgII absorbers detected in quasar spectra from Data Release 16 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) with galaxy clusters identified in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey. We find significant covering fractions ($1-5\, \%$ within $r_{500}$, depending on the chosen redshift interval), $\sim 4-5$ times higher than around random sightlines. While the covering fraction of cool gas in clusters decreases with increasing mass of the central galaxy, the total MgII mass within $r_{\rm 500}$ is nonetheles…
Radial colour gradients within galaxies arise from gradients of stellar age, metallicity and dust reddening. Large samples of colour gradients from wide-area imaging surveys can complement smaller integral-field spectroscopy datasets and can be used to constrain galaxy formation models. Here we measure colour gradients for low-redshift galaxies (z<0.1) using photometry from the DESI Legacy Imaging Survey DR9. Our sample comprises ~93,000 galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts and ~574,000 galaxies with photometric redshifts. We focus on gradients across a radial range 0.5 Re to Re, which corres…

We report deep imaging observations with DOLoRes@TNG of an ultra-faint dwarf satellite candidate of the Triangulum galaxy (M33) found by visual inspection of the public imaging data release of the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys. Pisces VII/Triangulum (Tri) III is found at a projected distance of 72 kpc from M33, and using the tip of the red giant branch method we estimate a distance of D=1.0 +0.3,-0.2 Mpc, meaning the galaxy could either be an isolated ultra-faint or the second known satellite of M33. We estimate an absolute magnitude of M_V=-6.1+/-0.2 if Pisces VII/Tri II is at the distance of M…
This is the third paper in a series aims at finding reionzation-era quasars with the combination of DESI Legacy imaging Surveys (DELS) and near-infrared imaging surveys, such as the UKIRT Hemisphere Survey (UHS), as well as the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explore ($WISE$) mid-infrared survey. In this paper, we describe the updated quasar candidate selection procedure, report the discovery of 16 quasars at $6.4\lesssim z \lesssim6.9$ from area of $\sim$13,020 deg$^2$, and present the quasar luminosity function (QLF) at $z\sim6.7$. The measured QLF follows $Φ(L_{1450})\propto L_{1450}^{-2.35}$ in…
