We present a unified approach to the thermodynamics of hadron-quark-gluon matter at finite temperatures on the basis of a quark cluster expansion in the form of a generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck approach with a generic ansatz for the hadronic phase shifts that fulfills the Levinson theorem. The change in the composition of the system from a hadron resonance gas to a quark-gluon plasma takes place in the narrow temperature interval of $150 - 185$ MeV where the Mott dissociation of hadrons is triggered by the dropping quark mass as a result of the restoration of chiral symmetry. The deconfinement of quark and gluon degrees of freedom is regulated by the Polyakov loop variable that signals the breaking of the $Z(3)$ center symmetry of the color $SU(3)$ group of QCD. We suggest a Polyakov-loop quark-gluon plasma model with $\mathcal{O}(α_s)$ virial correction and solve the stationarity condition of the thermodynamic potential (gap equation) for the Polyakov loop. The resulting pressure is in excellent agreement with lattice QCD simulations up to high temperatures.
Since the incident nuclei in heavy-ion collisions do not carry strangeness, the global net strangeness of the detected hadrons has to vanish. We investigate the impact of strangeness neutrality on the phase structure and thermodynamics of QCD at finite baryon and strangeness chemical potential. To this end, we study the low-energy sector of QCD within a Polyakov loop enhanced quark-meson effective theory with 2+1 dynamical quark flavors. Non-perturbative quantum, thermal, and density fluctuations are taken into account with the functional renormalization group. We show that the impact of stran…
A unified equation of state for quark-hadron matter is presented in the generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck form. It follows from a $Φ-$derivable approach to the thermodynamic potential where the ansatz for the $Φ$ functional contains all 2PI diagrams at two-loop order formed with quark cluster Green's functions for quark, diquark, meson and baryon propagators. We present numerical results using an effective model for the generic behaviour of hadron masses and phase shifts at finite temperature which shares basic features with recent developments within the PNJL model for correlations in quark matter. …

This review is organized as follows: 1) Introduction, 2) QCD thermodynamics on the lattice, 3) QCD phase diagram at high temperature, 4) Bulk thermodynamics, 5) Fluctuations of conserved charges, 6) Transport properties, 7) Open heavy flavors and heavy quarkonia, 8) QCD in external magnetic fields, 9) Summary.
In this letter the dualities of thermodynamics of dense quark/hadronic matter are discussed. It is shown that chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) phenomenon is dual to charged pion condensation (PC) phenomenon.
We present an effective model for the generic behaviour of hadron masses and phase shifts at finite temperature which shares basic features with recent developments within the PNJL model for correlations in quark matter. On this basis we obtain the transition between a hadron resonance gas phase and the quark gluon plasma in the spirit of the generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck approach where the Mott dissociation of hadrons is encoded in the hadronic phase shifts. Here we restrict ourselves to low-lying hadronic channels and perform a discussion of recent lattice QCD thermodynamics results from this p…
We study the thermodynamic properties of QCD at nonzero isospin chemical potential using improved staggered quarks at physical quark masses. In particular, we discuss the determination of the equation of state at zero and nonzero temperatures and show results. Using the results for the isospin density $n_I$, we also determine the phase diagram in the $(n_I,T)$-plane.
The QCD transition from a hadronic to a quark-gluon plasma phase is a cross-over at vanishing/small baryo-chemical potential, while at higher chemical potentials it is argued that it becomes of first order, ending with a critical end-point. The present goal is the determination of the critical line and, possibly, the recognition of the critical endpoint. For this purpose, the effective model (Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with Polyakov Loop) with 2+1 flavours is used. In Mean Field Approximation it is possible to obtain all thermodynamic quantities (pressure, entropy, energy and quark density) and …
The thermodynamics of quarks and gluons strongly depends on the vacuum colormagnetic field, which grows with the temperature $T$, so that spatial string tension $σ_s ={\rm const}~ g^4 (T) T^2$. We investigate below what happens when one imposes in addition constant magnetic field and discover remarkable structure of the resulting thermodynamic potential.
We compare lattice QCD results for appropriate combinations of net strangeness fluctuations and their correlations with net baryon number fluctuations with predictions from two hadron resonance gas (HRG) models having different strange hadron content. The conventionally used HRG model based on experimentally established strange hadrons fails to describe the lattice QCD results in the hadronic phase close to the QCD crossover. Supplementing the conventional HRG with additional, experimentally uncharted strange hadrons predicted by quark model calculations and observed in lattice QCD spectrum ca…
We use next-to-leading-order in perturbation theory to investigate the effects of a finite isospin density on the thermodynamics of cold strongly interacting matter. Our results include nonzero quark masses and are compared to lattice data.
Recently, we proposed a novel method to define and calculate the energy-momentum tensor (EMT) in lattice gauge theory on the basis of the Yang-Mills gradient flow [1]. In this proceedings, we summarize the basic idea and technical steps to obtain the bulk thermodynamic quantities in lattice gauge theory using this method for the quenched and $(2+1)$-flavor QCD. The revised results of integration measure (trace anomaly) and entropy density of the quenched QCD with corrected coefficients are shown. Furthermore, we also show the flow time dependence of the parts of EMT including the dynamical fer…
I review recent developments in QCD thermodynamics and collective excitations from the hard-thermal-loop effective theory. I begin by motivating the discussion with open questions from heavy-ion collisions. I then discuss a finite-temperature and -density calculation of QCD thermodynamics at NNLO from the hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory. Finally I discuss a recent exploration of generalizing the hard-thermal-loop framework to the (chromo)magnetic scale $g^2T$, from which a novel massless mode is uncovered.
A dilaton potential is adjusted to recently confirmed lattice QCD thermodynamics data in the temperature range $(0.7 \ldots 3.5) T_c$ where $T_c = 155 \text{MeV}$ is the pseudo-critical temperature. The employed holographic model is based on a gravity--single-field dilaton dual. We discuss conditions for enforcing (for the pure gluon plasma) or avoiding (for the QCD quark-gluon plasma) a first-order phase transition, but still keeping a softest point (minimum of sound velocity).
We consider a bottom-up holographic model of QCD at finite temperature T and magnetic field B, and study dependence of thermodynamics and CP-odd transport on these variables. As the magnetic field couples to the flavor sector only, one should take the Veneziano limit where the number of flavors and colors are large while their ratio is kept fixed. We investigate the corresponding holographic background in the approximation where the ratio of flavors to colors is finite but small. We demonstrate that B-dependence of the entropy of QCD is in qualitative agreement with the recent lattice studies.…
We study in detail the thermodynamics of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) matter utilizing two different statistics, extensive and non-extensive. The thermodynamics such as (pressure, number density, energy density , entropy and magnetization) are determined from both statistics at zero and non-zero magnetic field, eB = 0; 0:2; 0:3GeV^2. The magnetic field effect appears by adding a vacuum contribution to the free energy along side the thermal contribution. The extensive thermodynamics can be emerged from the resonance hadron gas model which is incorporated in the present work. Accordingly, we…
A holographic model of probe quarkonia is presented, where the dynamical gravity-dilaton background is adjusted to the thermodynamics of 2 +1 flavor QCD with physical quark masses. The quarkonia action is modified to account for a systematic study of the heavy-quark mass dependence. We focus on the $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ spectral functions and relate our model to heavy quarkonia formation as a special aspect of hadron phenomenology in heavy-ion collisions at LHC.
A precise lattice determination of the equation of state in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory is carried out by means of a simulation algorithm, based on Jarzynski's theorem, that allows one to compute physical quantities in thermodynamic equilibrium, by driving the field configurations of the system out of equilibrium. The physical results and the computational efficiency of the algorithm are compared with other state-of-the-art lattice calculations, and the extension to full QCD with dynamical fermions and to other observables is discussed.
