The use of mobile robots has inevitably increased in recent years. The increase in the companies that produce products in this field, the popularity of the studies in the robotic field and the technological competence to serve many different areas have revealed this increase in usage. The importance of mobile robots used as health, education, pro-duction, logistics, defense industry and space equipment is now more important than before. The fact that robotic education can be reduced to a very young age, the production and coding of simple robots with easily accessible parts is also an important factor in this field. At this point, the effect of educational robots on the spread of robotic technol-ogy cannot be denied.
Visual programming languages (VPLs) provide coding without typing texts. VPL makes coding easy to programmers with automatically adding usually used some code structure. Beginners in coding have generally two main challenges; transforming ideas into logical expressions and syntax errors. Syntax errors are impossible with VPLs because of there is no forgotten parentheses and semicolons. VPLs provide to focus on algorithm for programmers. VPL is a new trend for educational robotic environments. In this study, Robot Operating System (ROS) compatible web based visual programming system has been de…
The secure command and control (C&C) of mobile agents arises in various settings including unmanned aerial vehicles, single pilot operations in commercial settings, and mobile robots to name a few. As more and more of these applications get integrated into aerospace and defense use cases, the security of the communication channel between the ground station and the mobile agent is of increasing importance. The development of quantum computing devices poses a unique threat to secure communications due to the vulnerability of asymmetric ciphers to Shor's algorithm. Given the active development of…
We were able to complete the full integration of the Robotic Technology Kernel (RTK) into an electric vehicle by-wire system using lidar and GPS sensors. The solution included a mobile application to interface with the RTK-enabled autonomous vehicle. Altogether the system was designed to be modular, using the concepts of message-based software design that is built into the Robot Operating System (ROS), which is at the foundation of RTK. The team worked incrementally to develop working software to demonstrate each milestone on the path to successfully completing the RTK integration for the deve…
In this study Arduino card based mobile robot design was realized. This robot can serve as a security robot, an auxiliary robot or a control robot. The designed robot has two operation modes. The first operating mode is autonomous mode. In this mode, the robot detects the surroundings with the help of ultrasonic sensors placed around it, and keeps track of the places it passes by using the encoder. It is able to navigate without hitting any place and passing from where it passes, and it transmits the patient's pulse and temperature condition to the user by other systems installed on it. Also t…
This paper presents the $\mathrmμ$Car, a 1:18 model-scale vehicle with Ackermann steering geometry developed for experiments in networked and autonomous driving in research and education. The vehicle is open source, moderately costed and highly flexible, which allows for many applications. It is equipped with an inertial measurement unit and an odometer and obtains its pose via WLAN from an indoor positioning system. The two supported operating modes for controlling the vehicle are (1) computing control inputs on external hardware, transmitting them via WLAN and applying received inputs to the…
The paper proposes the stable motion control law design method for non-honomic differential-drive mobile robot with system and measurement noise in discrete time domain. This method is performed basing on dividing operating configuration of robot into two parts: glocal and local configuration then the control law is designed following Lyapunov stable theory for two configuration. The proposed stable control laws is able to reach asymptotically stably to target position and orientation from any initial conditions even existing noise in the system. Some simulation results have demonstrated the e…
In recent years, the mobile robot has been the concern of numerous researcher since they are widely applied in various fields of daily life. This paper applies a virtual robot operating system (ROS) platform to develop a localization system for robot motion. The proposed system is based on the combination of relative and absolute measurement methods, in which the data from the encoder, digital compass, and laser scanner sensor are fused using the extended Kalman filter (EKF). The system also successfully eliminates the errors caused by the environment as well as the error accumulation. The exp…
Controlling and monitoring complex autonomous and semi autonomous robotic systems is a challenging task. The Robot Operating System (ROS) was developed to act as a robotic middleware system running on Ubuntu Linux which allows, amongst others, hardware abstraction, message-passing between individual processes and package management. However, active support of ROS applications for mobile devices, such as smarthphones or tablets, are missing. We developed a ROS application for Android, which comes with an intuitive user interface for controlling and monitoring robotic systems. Our open source co…

Autonomous navigation is a long-standing field of robotics research, which provides an essential capability for mobile robots to execute a series of tasks on the same environments performed by human everyday. In this chapter, we present a set of algorithms to train and deploy deep networks for autonomous navigation of mobile robots using the Robot Operation System (ROS). We describe three main steps to tackle this problem: i) collecting data in simulation environments using ROS and Gazebo; ii) designing deep network for autonomous navigation, and iii) deploying the learned policy on mobile rob…

In a new type of automated parts-to-picker warehouse system - a Robotic Mobile Fulfillment System (RMFS) - robots are sent to transport pods (movable shelves) to human operators at stations to pick/put items from/to pods. There are many operational decision problems in such a system, and some of them are interdependent and influence each other. In order to analyze the decision problems and the relationships between them, there are two open-source simulation frameworks in the literature, Alphabet Soup and RAWSim-O. However, the steps between simulation and real-world RMFS are not clear in the l…

There are various trajectory planners for mobile manipulators. It is often challenging to compare their performance under similar circumstances due to differences in hardware, dissimilarity of tasks and objectives, as well as uncertainties in measurements and operating environments. In this paper, we propose a simulation framework to evaluate the performance of the local trajectory planners to generate smooth, and dynamically and kinematically feasible trajectories for mobile manipulators in the same environment. We focus on local planners as they are key components that provide smooth traject…
