We use recently derived Ward identities and lattice data for the light- and strange-quark condensates to reconstruct the scalar and pseudoscalar susceptibilities ($χ_S^κ$, $χ_P^K$) in the isospin 1/2 channel. We show that $χ_S^κ$ develops a maximum above the QCD chiral transition, after which it degenerates with $χ_P^K$. We also obtain $χ_S^κ$ within Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (UChPT) at finite temperature, when it is saturated with the $K_0^*(700)$ (or $κ$) meson, the dominant lowest-energy state in the isospin 1/2 scalar channel of $πK$ scattering. Such UChPT result reproduces the expected peak structure, revealing the importance of thermal interactions, and makes it possible to examine the $χ_S^κ$ dependence on the light- and strange-quark masses. A consistent picture emerges controlled by the $m_l/m_s$ ratio that allows one studying $K-κ$ degeneration in the chiral, two-flavor and $SU(3)$ limits. These results provide an alternative sign for $O(4)\times U(1)_A$ restoration that can be explored in lattice simulations and highlight the role of strangeness, which regulated by the strange-quark condensate helps to reconcile the current tension among lattice results regarding $U(1)_A$ restoration.
The effects of the Polyakov loop and of a regularization procedure that allows the presence of high momentum quark states at finite temperature is investigated within the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The characteristic temperatures, as well as the behavior of observables that signal deconfinement and restoration of chiral and axial symmetries, are analyzed, paying special attention to the behavior of strangeness degrees of freedom. We observe that the cumulative effects of the Polyakov loop and of the regularization procedure contribute to a better description of the therm…
The strangeness contribution to the nucleon magnetic moment is calculated at the one-loop level in a relativistic SU(3) chiral potential model and is found to be {\em positive}, that is, with an {\em opposite} sign to the nucleon strangeness polarization. It is the ``Z'' diagram that violates the usual relation between spin and magnetic moment. The positive value is due to the contribution from the intermediate excited quark states, while the intermediate ground state gives a negative contribution. Our numerical results agree quite well with the new measurement of the SAMPLE Collaboration.
The strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is shown to be small in the chiral quark model. The dominant loop contribution is due to kaons. The K^* loop contributions are proportional to the difference between the strange and light constituent quark masses or $m_{K^*}^{-2}$ and therefore small. The loop fluctuations that involve radiative transitions between K^* mesons and kaons are small, when the cut-off scale in the loops is taken to be close to the chiral symmetry restoration scale. The net loop amplitude contribution to the strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is about -0.05, which…
In this paper we investigate an SU(3) extension of the chiral quark-meson model. The spectra of baryons with strangeness, charm and bottom are considered within a "rigid oscillator" version of this model. The similarity between the quark part of the Lagrangian in the model and the Wess-Zumino term in the Skyrme model is noted. The binding energies of baryonic systems with baryon number B=2 and 3 possessing strangeness or heavy flavor are estimated. The results obtained are in good qualitative agreement with those obtained previously in the topological soliton (Skyrme) model.
Within an extended chiral constituent quark formalism, we investigate contributions from all possible five-quark components in the octet baryons to the pion-baryon ($σ_{πB}$) and strangeness-baryon ($σ_{s B}$) sigma terms; $B \equiv N,~Λ,~Σ,~Ξ$. The probabilities of the quark-antiquark components in the ground-state baryon octet wave functions are calculated by taking the baryons to be admixtures of three- and five-quark components, with the relevant transitions handled {\it via} the $^{3}$P$_{0}$ mechanism. Predictions for $σ_{πB}$ and $σ_{s B}$ obtained by using input parameters taken from t…
We present our calculation of the correlator $<T\{V_sV_s^†\} >$ between two external vector-currents with the quantum-numbers of a charged kaon. The renormalized expression to $O(p^6)$ in $SU(3) \times SU(3)$ standard chiral perturbation theory is finite and scale-independent. The result is used to determine, via an IMFESR, the phenomenologically relevant finite $O(p^6)$-counterterm combination $Q_V$ in a way which is not sensitive to isospin breaking.
We calculate the correlator between two external vector-currents having the quantum-numbers of a charged kaon. We give the renormalized expression to two loops in standard chiral perturbation theory in the isospin limit, which, as a physical result, is finite and scale-independent. Applications include a low energy theorem, valid at two loop order, of a flavor breaking combination of vector current correlators as well as a determination of the phenomenologically relevant finite $O(p^6)$-counterterm combination $Q_V$ by means of inverse moment finite energy sum rules. This determination is less…
The effect of a non-zero strangeness chemical potential on the strong interaction phase diagram has been studied within the framework of the SU(3) quark-hadron chiral parity-doublet model. Both, the nuclear liquid-gas and the chiral/deconfinement phase transitions are modified. The first-order line in the chiral phase transition is observed to vanish completely, with the entire phase boundary becoming a crossover. These changes in the nature of the phase transitions are expected to modify various susceptibilities, the effects of which might be detectable in particle-number distributions result…
Chiral symmetry is known to be decisive for an understanding of the low energy sector of strong interactions. It is thus important for a model of relativistic heavy ion collisions to incorporate the dynamical breaking and restoration of chiral symmetry. Thus we study an expansion scenario for a quark-meson plasma using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in its three flavor version. The equations of motion for light and strange quarks as well as for pions, kaons and etas are solved using a QMD type algorithm, which is based on a parametrization of the Wigner function. The scattering processes …
The standard collective quantization treatment of the strangeness content of the nucleon in chiral soliton models such as the Skyrmion is shown to be inconsistent with the semi-classical expansion on which the treatment is based. The strangeness content vanishes at leading order in the semi-classical expansion. Collective quantization correctly describes some contributions to the strangeness content at the first nonvanishing order in the expansion, but neglects others at the same order--namely, those associated with continuum modes. Moreover, there are fundamental difficulties in computing at …
The chiral quark model describes the strangeness components of the light quarks as fluctuations into strange mesons and quarks. The single strange pseudoscalar and vector meson loop fluctuations of the constituent $u$- and $d$-quarks give rise to only very small strangeness form factors for the proton. This result is in line with recent experimental results, given their wide uncertainty range.
The implications of chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) symmetry breaking have been studied in the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM). The role of hidden strangeness component has been investigated for the scalar matrix elements of the nucleon with an emphasis on the meson-nucleon sigma terms. The $χ$CQM is able to give a qualitative and quantitative description of the "quark sea" generation through chiral symmetry breaking. The significant contribution of the strangeness is consistent with the recent available experimental observations.
We review the current situation of the pattern of chiral symmetry restoration. In particular, we analyze partner degeneration for $O(4)$ and $U(1)_A$ symmetries within the context of Ward Identities and Effective Theories. The application of Ward Identities to the thermal scaling of screening masses is also discussed. We present relevant observables for which an Effective Theory description in terms of Chiral Perturbation Theory and its unitarized extension are compatible with lattice data even around the transition region. We pay special attention to the role of strangeness in this context.
The phase transitions characterized by deconfinement and restoration of chiral symmetry as well as the restoration of axial symmetry, at finite temperature, are investigated in the framework of SU(2) Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models with the U$_A$(1) anomaly. The thermodynamics of the phase transitions, the topological susceptibility, the meson spectrum, and, in particular, the convergence of axial and chiral partners are analyzed, in the framework of the ordinary PNJL model and in its extension, the entangled Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (EPNJL) model. The latter incorporates entangle…
Chiral restoration at finite temperatures is studied in chiral quark models with non-local regulators. At the leading-N_c level we find transition temperatures of the order of 100MeV. Meson-loop contributions are also analyzed and found to have a very small effect.
The nucleon's strange-quark vector current form factors are studied from the perspective of chiral symmetry. It is argued that chiral perturbation theory cannot yield a prediction for the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. Arrival at definite predictions requires the introduction of additional, model-dependent assumptions which go beyond the framework of chiral perturbation theory. A variety of such model predictions is surveyed, and the credibility of each is evaluated. The most plausible prediction appears in a model where the unknown chiral counterterms are identified with $t$-channel …
The expansion and hadronization of a quark meson plasma is studied using an effective chiral interaction Lagrangian. The particles we consider are light as well as strange quarks, which can form pions, kaons and eta mesons via collision processes. The transport equations for the system are solved using a QMD type algorithm. We find that in chemical equilibrium at high temperatures the strange quark mass is considerably higher than the strange current quark mass and becomes even higher if we assume an initial state free of strange quarks. This leads to a considerably higher production threshold…
The photoproduction rate of pentaquark $Θ^+$ is calculated in a hot and dense medium. At high temperature and density, due to the restoration of chiral symmetry, photoproduction energy threshold is increased. Above the thresold the production cross section is strongly enhanced.
The chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM) has been extended to calculate the flavor structure of the nucleon through the meson-nucleon sigma terms which have large contributions from the quark sea and are greatly affected by chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) symmetry breaking. The hidden strangeness component in the nucleon has also been investigated and its significant contribution is found to be consistent with the recent available experimental observations.
We discuss the relation between color deconfinement characterized by the Polyakov loop and chiral restoration characterized by the chiral condensate. We clarify how and why these two phenomena should take place at the same pseudo-critical temperature.
We study possible restoration patterns of chiral symmetry in a generalized hidden local symmetry model, which is a low energy effective theory of QCD including pseudo-scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. We derive Wilsonian renormalization group equations and analyze the running couplings and their fixed points at the chiral restoration point. We find three types of the chiral restoration, which are classified as the standard, vector manifestation and intermediate scenarios, respectively. It turns out that the rho and A_1 meson become massless and their decay into pion is suppressed in all …
I discuss the masses of chiral partners in the context of chiral symmetry restoration at finite temperature. Using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model I first remind the usual situation where two mesons of opposed parity become degenerate above the chiral transition temperature. Then I consider an effective theory for D mesons where the positive parity companion presents a "double pole structure". In this case three different masses need to be analyzed as functions of the temperature. I suggest a possible restoration pattern at high temperatures when the back-reaction of the quark condensate is incor…
In the framework of Coulomb Gauge QCD we explore dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry and screening of the confinement potential at finite density. The screened potential is applied in study of charmonium dissociation.
The formulas for the temperature dependences of the non-strange and strange quark condensates are derived by taking into account the contribution of the massive resonances. Critical temperature of the chiral symmetry restoration transition is established to be 190 MeV if only meson resonances are considered, and 175 MeV if both meson and baryon resonances are taken into account.
We discuss the relation between the Polyakov loop and the chiral order parameter at finite temperature by using an effective model. We clarify why and how the pseudo-critical temperature associated with the Polyakov loop should coincide with that of the chiral condensate.
We discuss recent results regarding the interplay between chiral and $U(1)_A$ symmetry restoration, both from the point of view of Ward Identities relating meson susceptibilities and quark condensates, and from the behaviour of light meson resonances at finite temperature
Recently, some progresses have been made on the double-heavy tetraquarks in the experiments, such as $T_{cc}$ reported by LHCb Collaboration, and $X_{cc\bar{s}\bar{s}}$ reported by the Belle Collaboration. Coming on the heels of our previous work about $T_{cc}$ and $T_{bb}$, we present a study on the bound states and the resonant states of its companions $QQ\bar{q}\bar{s}$ ($Q=c,b; q=u, s$) tetraquarks with strange flavor in the chiral quark model. Two pictures, one with meson-meson picture, another with diquark-antidiquark picture and their couplings are considered in our calculations. Isospi…
We study the features of nonlocal SU(3) chiral quark models with wave function renormalization. Model parameters are determined from meson phenomenology, considering different nonlocal form factor shapes. In this context we analyze the characteristics of the deconfinement and chiral restoration transitions at finite temperature, introducing the couplings of fermions to the Polyakov loop. We analyze the results obtained for various thermodynamical quantities considering different Polyakov loop potentials and nonlocal form factors, in comparison with data obtained from lattice QCD calculations.
We discuss our recent results regarding chiral and $U(1)_A$ restoration, both from the formal point of view of QCD Ward Identities (WI) and from an Effective Theory analysis provided by $U(3)$ Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) at finite temperature. Our results lead to relevant conclusions regarding the behavior of chiral partners (in terms of susceptibilities) in the limit of exact restoration and provide useful results for lattice analysis. In addition, it helps to understand the temperature dependence of lattice screening masses in terms of quark condensate combinations. The U(3) ChPT calcu…
We review recent work on thermal resonances and their connection with chiral symmetry and $U(1)_A$ restoration within the QCD phase diagram. In particular, the $f_0(500)$ and $K_0^* (700)$ states generated from $ππ$ and $πK$ scattering within Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) at finite temperature allow one to describe scalar susceptibilities, which combined with Ward Identities yield interesting conclusions regarding the interplay between chiral and $U(1)_A$ restoration, key to understand the nature of the transition
We study the S-wave interaction of mesons with baryons in the strangeness S=0 sector in a coupled channel unitary approach. The basic dynamics is drawn from the lowest order meson baryon chiral Lagrangians. Small modifications inspired by models with explicit vector meson exchange in the t-channel are also considered. In addition the pi pi N channel is included and shown to have an important repercussion in the results, particularly in the isospin 3/2 sector.
The spectroscopic predictions of the Ademollo-Veneziano-Weinberg dual model are critically tested in view of the modern experimental data. The predicted equidistance of masses squared for chiral partners is shown to be violated high in energies, instead one observes an approximate degeneracy of these quantities. This phenomenon can be interpreted as the restoration of Wigner-Weyl realization of chiral symmetry for highly excited states. The scale of complete restoration is expected to be 2.5 GeV. A multispin-parity cluster structure of meson spectrum is revealed.
The dependence of the dressed quark propagator on the quark chemical potential is investigated in various models based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations. We find that the critical chemical potential of the chiral symmetry restoration transition is strongly dependent on the nature of the interaction kernel in the infrared region.
We consider the light-quark axial-vector current correlator in the framework of thermal QCD sum rules to: (a) find a relation between chiral-symmetry restoration and deconfinement, and (b) determine the temperature behaviour of the $a_1(1260)$ width and coupling. Our results show that deconfinement takes place at a slightly lower temperature than chiral-symmetry restoration. This difference is not significant given the accuracy of the method. The behaviour of the $a_1(1260)$ parameters is consistent with quark-gluon deconfinement, since the width grows and the coupling decreases with increasing…
We exploit the recent lattice results for the infrared gluon propagator with light dynamical quarks and solve the gap equation for the quark propagator. Chiral symmetry breaking and confinement (intimately tied with the analytic properties of QCD Schwinger functions) order parameters are then studied.
We review recent results on the role of light quark states within the QCD phase diagram. In particular, we will discuss how the combined use of theoretical techniques such as Effective Theories, Unitarization and Ward Identities helps to shed light on several important issues regarding chiral symmetry restoration, building bridges with recent lattice analyses. Special attention will be paid to the role of chiral and $U(1)_A$ partners in the interplay between those symmetries, which is crucial to properly understand the transition pattern. Light scalar mesons at finite temperature will be shown…
As an alternative to the two-quark condensate we propose a specific four-quark condensate as an order parameter of chiral symmetry restoration. We show that this four-quark condensate is closer connected to observable quantities. Within a resonance gas model we calculate the in-medium changes of two- and four-quark condensate as functions of temperature and baryo-chemical potential. In this way we estimate the line of chiral symmetry restoration in the temperature-potential plane and also as a function of energy and baryon density. It turns out that the line determined from the vanishing of th…
A chiral model is introduced that is based on the parity doublet formulation of chiral symmetry including hyperonic degrees of freedom. The phase structure of the model is determined. Depending on the masses of the chiral partners the transition to the chirally restored phase shows a first-order line with critical endpoints as function of chemical potential and temperature in additional to the standard liquid-gas phase transition of self-bound nuclear matter. We extend the parity doublet model to describe the deconfinement phase transition which is in quantitative agreement with lattice data a…
We investigate the possible restoration of chiral and axial symmetries across the phase transition at finite temperature and chemical potential, by analyzing the behavior of several physics quantities, such as the quark condensates and the topological susceptibility, the respective derivatives in order to chemical potential, and the masses of meson chiral partners. We discuss whether only chiral symmetry or both chiral and axial symmetries are restored and what is the role of the strange quark. The results are compared with recent lattice results.
A simple solvable toy model exhibiting effective restoration of chiral symmetry in excited hadrons is constructed. A salient feature is that while physics of the low-lying states is crucially determined by the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, in the high-lying states the effects of chiral symmetry breaking represent only a small correction. Asymptotically the states approach the regime where their properties are determined by the underlying unbroken chiral symmetry.
Studies of the baryon-baryon interaction involving hyperons within chiral effective field theory, so far performed up to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the chiral expansion, have shown that for the strangeness $S=-1$ ($ΛN$, $ΣN$) and $S=-2$ ($ΛΛ$, $ΞN$) sectors a consistent and satisfactory description of the available scattering data and experimental constraints can be achieved based on the assumption of broken SU(3) flavor symmetry. We explore the possible extension of this approach at the NLO level to strangeness $S=-3$ and $S=-4$ baryon-baryon systems where empirical information is rather …
We discuss recent advances on QCD chiral symmetry restoration at finite temperature, within the theoretical framework of Effective Theories. $U(3)$ Ward Identities are derived between pseudoscalar susceptibilities and quark condensates, allowing to explain the behaviour of lattice meson screening masses. Unitarized interactions and the generated $f_0(500)$ thermal state are showed to play an essential role in the description of the transition through the scalar susceptibility
We study the deconfinement and chiral restoration transitions in the context of non-local PNJL models, considering the impact of the presence of dynamical quarks on the scale parameter appearing in the Polyakov potential. We show that the corresponding critical temperatures are naturally entangled for both zero and imaginary chemical potential, in good agreement with lattice QCD results. We also analyze the Roberge Weiss transition, which is found to be first order at the associated endpoint.
In this talk I summarize our recent works on the chiral symmetry restoration in the large flavor QCD using the hidden local symmetry (HLS) as an effective field theory of QCD. Bare parameters in the HLS are determined by matching the HLS with QCD at the matching scale through the Wilsoninan matching conditions. This Wilsonian matching leads to the vector manifestation of the Wigner realization of the chiral symmetry in which the symmetry is restored by the massless degenerate pion (and its flavor partners) and rho meson (and its flavor partners) as the chiral partner.
Chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra is expected but it remains to be confirmed both in lattice QCD computations and in experiments. Recently, a theorem was derived, relating chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra to the spontaneous generation of the dynamical quark mass in QCD. We refine the theorem in the case of static-light mesons. Utilizing chiral quark model computations and lattice QCD results for the spectrum of mesons composed by a static antiquark and a light quark, we explore chiral symmetry restoration in the spectrum and the quark running mass m(k…
Chiral symmetry is an essential concept in understanding QCD at low energy. We treat the chiral condensate, which measures the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, as a free parameter to investigate the effect of partially restored chiral symmetry on the physical quantities in the frame work of an AdS/QCD model. We observe an interesting scaling behavior among the nucleon mass, pion decay constant and chiral condensate. We propose a phenomenological way to introduce the temperature dependence of a physical quantity in the AdS/QCD model with the thermal AdS metric.
Given Brown/Rho scaling we thought of the mesons which are observed in Nambu-Jona Lasinio theory as collective modes. The pi, sigma, rho and A_1, should go smoothly through T_c as the temperature rose, going massless as T comes to T_c.
We discuss the calculation of the strange magnetic radius of the proton in chiral perturbation theory. In particular we investigate the low energy component of the loop integrals involving kaons. We separate the chiral calculation into a low energy part and a high energy component through use of a momentum space separation scale. This separation shows that most of the chiral calculation comes from high energies where the effective field theory treatment is not valid. The resulting low energy prediction is in better agreement with dispersive treatments. Finally, we briefly discuss magnetic mome…
We perform a chiral extrapolation of lattice data on the scalar K pi form factor and the ratio of the kaon and pion decay constants within Chiral Perturbation Theory to two loops. We determine the value of the scalar form factor at zero momentum transfer, at the Callan-Treiman point and at its soft kaon analog as well as its slope. Results are in good agreement with their determination from experiment using the standard couplings of quarks to the W boson. The slope is however rather large. A study of the convergence of the chiral expansion is also performed.
We study the chiral phase transition in the linear sigma model with 2 quark flavors and $N_c$ colors. One-loop calculations predict a first-order phase transition at both $μ=0$ and $μ\neq 0$. We also discuss the phase diagram and make a comparison with a thermal parametrization of existing heavy-ion experimental data.
The supersymmetric version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model is investigated in connection with the chiral symmetry breaking induced by a soft SUSY breaking term. It is found that the broken chiral symmetry due to the soft breaking term is restored at suitably high temperature and the symmetry restoration occurs as first-order phase transitions. The critical temperature at which the chiral symmetry is restored is determined as a function of the strength of the soft breaking term and the field coupling constant. The dynamical fermion mass is calculated at finite temperature. Some possible applica…
Lattice QCD calculations with chiral fermions of the $π$N sigma term $σ_{πN}$ and strangeness sigma term $σ_{sN}$ including chiral interpolation with continuum and volume corrections are provided in this work, with the excited-state contaminations subtracted properly. We calculate the scalar matrix element for the light/strange quark directly and find $σ_{πN}=45.9(7.4)(2.8)$ MeV, with the disconnected insertion part contributing 20(12)(4)\%, and $σ_{sN}=40.2(11.7)(3.5)$ MeV, which is somewhat smaller than $σ_{πN}$. The ratio of the strange/light scalar matrix elements is $y$ = 0.09(3)(1).
We investigate the full U(3)$\otimes$U(3) chiral symmetry restoration, at finite temperature and density, on the basis of a quark model which incorporates the most relevant properties of QCD in this context: explicit and spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry and axial U$_A$(1) symmetry breaking. A specific lattice-inspired behavior of the topological susceptibility, combined with the convergence of chiral partners, signals the onset of an effective chiral symmetry restoration. The results suggest that the axial part of the symmetry is restored before the possible restoration of the full U(3)…
We perform a theoretical analysis of the $a_1$ resonance mass spectrum in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions within a hadron/string transport approach. Predictions for the $a_1$ yield and its mass distribution are given for the GSI-FAIR and the critRHIC energy regime. The potential of the $a_1$ meson as a signal for chiral symmetry restoration is explored. In view of the latest discussion, we investigate the decay channel $a_1 \to γπ$ in detail and find a strong bias towards low $a_1$ masses. This apparent mass shift of the $a_1$ if observed in the $γπ$ channel might render a possible mas…
The structure of chiral symmetry restorations at finite temperature is thoroughly investigated in the supersymmetric Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with a soft supersymmetry breaking term. It is found that the broken chiral symmetry at vanishing temperature is restored at sufficiently high temperature in two patterns, i. e., the first order and second order phase transition depending on the choice of the coupling constant $G$ and the supersymmetry breaking parameter $Δ$. The critical curves expressing the phase boundaries in the $G-Δ$ plane are completely determined and the dynamically generated fer…
Effective chiral restoration in the hadronic spectrum has been conjectured as an explanation of multiplets of nearly degenerate seen in highly excited hadrons. The conjecture depends on the states being insensitive to the dynamics of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. A key question is whether this concept is well defined in QCD. This paper shows that it is by means of an explicit formal construction. This construction allows one to characterize this sensitivity for any observable calculable in QCD in Euclidean space via a functional integral. The construction depends on a generalization of…
The effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking and configuration mixing have been investigated for the weak vector and axial-vector form factors in the chiral constituent quark model (χCQM) for the strangeness changing as well as strangeness conserving semi-leptonic octet baryon decays in the nonperturbative regime. The results are in good agreement with existing experimental data and also show improvement over other phenomenological models.
