We propose a systematic procedure for obtaining all single trace 1/2-BPS correlators in N=4 super Yang-Mills corresponding to the four-point tree-level amplitude for type IIB string theory in AdS5xS5. The underlying idea is to compute generalised contact Witten diagrams coming from a 10d effective field theory on AdS5xS5 whose coefficients are fixed by the flat space Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude up to ambiguities related to commutators of the 10d covariant derivatives which require additional information such as localisation. We illustrate this procedure by computing stringy corrections to the supergravity prediction for all single trace 1/2-BPS correlators up to $O(α'^7)$, and spell out a general algorithm for extending this to any order in $α'$.

We consider the four-point correlator of the stress-energy tensor in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM, to leading order in inverse powers of the central charge, but including all order corrections in $1/λ$. This corresponds to the AdS version of the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude to all orders in the small $α'$/low energy expansion. Using dispersion relations in Mellin space, we derive an infinite set of sum rules. These sum rules strongly constrain the form of the amplitude, and determine all coefficients in the low energy expansion in terms of the CFT data for heavy string operators, in principle available from…
Using the QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics and the conformal invariance properties of the BFKL kernel in transverse coordinate space, we show that the 1--to--p dipole densities can be expressed in terms of dual Shapiro- Virasoro amplitudes B{2p+2} and their generalization including non-zero conformal spins. We discuss the possibility of an effective closed string theory of interacting QCD dipoles.

The genus zero contribution to the four-point correlator $\langle {\cal O}_{p_1}{\cal O}_{p_2}{\cal O}_{p_3}{\cal O}_{p_4}\rangle$ of half-BPS single-particle operators ${\cal O}_p$ in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills at strong coupling computes the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude of closed superstrings on $AdS_5\times S^5$. Combining Mellin space techniques, the large $p$ limit, and data about the spectrum of two-particle operators at tree level in supergravity, we design a bootstrap algorithm which heavily constrains its $α'$ expansion. We use crossing symmetry, polynomiality in the Mellin variab…
In double field theory, motivated by its field theoretic consistency, the level matching condition is generalized to the so-called strong constraint. In this note, it is investigated what the two-dimensional conformal field theory origin of this constraint is. Initially treating the left- and right-movers as independent, we compute the torus partition function as well as a generalized Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude. In non-compact directions the strong constraint arises from the factorization of the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude over physical states as determined by the modular invariant partition fu…
We detail the properties of the Veneziano, Virasoro, and Coon amplitudes. These tree-level four-point scattering amplitudes may be written as infinite products with an infinite sequence of simple poles. Our approach for the Coon amplitude uses the mathematical theory of $q$-analysis. We interpret the Coon amplitude as a $q$-deformation of the Veneziano amplitude for all $q \geq 0$ and discover a new transcendental structure in its low-energy expansion. We show that there is no analogous $q$-deformation of the Virasoro amplitude.
We reconsider a modification of the N-point amplitude of the Neveu-Schwarz (NS) model in which the tachyon becomes a pion by shifting its mass to zero and keeping the super-projective invariance of the integrand of the amplitude. For the scattering of four particles it reduces to the amplitude written by Lovelace and Shapiro that has Adler zeroes. We confirm that also the N-pion amplitude has Adler zeroes and show that it reduces to that of the non-linear $σ$-model for $α' \rightarrow 0$ keeping $F_π$ fixed. The four- and six-point flavour-ordered amplitudes satisfy tree-level unitarity since …
Four tachyon scattering amplitude is derived from the $S^N\R^{24}$ orbifold sigma model in the large $N$ limit. The closed string interaction is described by a vertex which is a bosonic analog of the supersymmetric one, recently proposed by Dijkgraaf, Verlinde and Verlinde.
We calculate gravitational dressed tachyon correlators in non critcal dimensions. The 2D gravity part of our theory is constrained to constant curvature. Then scaling dimensions of gravitational dressed vertex operators are equal to their bare conformal dimensions. Considering the model as d+2 dimensional critical string we calculate poles of generalized Shapiro-Virasoro amplitudes.
In this paper we continue our study of the tree level MHV graviton scattering amplitudes from the point of view of celestial holography. In arXiv:2008.04330 we showed that the celestial OPE of two gravitons in the MHV sector can be written as a linear combination of $\overline{SL(2,\mathbb C)}$ current algebra and supertranslation descendants. In this note we show that the OPE is in fact manifestly invariant under the infinite dimensional Virasoro algebra as is expected for a $2$-D CFT. This is consistent with the conjecture that the holographic dual in $4$-D asymptotically flat space time is …
A study of the double logarithmic in the center-of-mass energy, $s$, contributions to the four-graviton scattering amplitude is presented for four-dimensional ${\cal N} \geq 4$ supergravities. This includes a novel representation for the coefficients of the perturbative expansion based on exactly solvable recurrences. A review is given of the structure in the complex angular momentum plane for the $t$-channel partial wave singularities of the different amplitudes. Working in impact parameter representation, $ρ$, it is shown that the resummation of double logarithms makes gravity weaker in regi…
The construction of $SL(2,Z)$ invariant amplitudes that generalizethe Virasoro amplitude is investigated in detail. We describe a number of mathematical properties that characterize the simplest example, and present pieces of evidence that it represents the tree-level four-graviton scattering amplitude in membrane theory on ${\bf R}^9\times T^2$ in the limit that the torus area goes to zero. In particular, we show that the poles of the $S$-dual amplitude are in precise correspondence with the states of membrane theory that survive in the type IIB limit. These are shown to be the states that sp…
