We develop novel first-kind boundary integral equations for Euclidean Dirac operators in 3D Lipschitz domains comprising square-integrable potentials and involving only weakly singular kernels. Generalized Garding inequalities are derived and we establish that the obtained boundary integral operators are Fredholm of index zero. Their finite dimensional kernels are characterized and we show that their dimension is equal to the number of topological invariants of the domain's boundary, in other words to the sum of its Betti numbers. This is explained by the fundamental discovery that the associated bilinear forms agree with those induced by the 2D surface Dirac operators for H-1/2 surface de Rham Hilbert complexes whose underlying inner-products are the non-local inner products defined through the classical single-layer boundary integral operators for the Laplacian. Decay conditions for well-posedness in natural energy spaces of the Dirac system in unbounded exterior domains are also presented.
Dirac-Schrödinger systems play a central role when modeling Dirac bundles and Dirac-Schrödinger operators near the boundary, along ends or near other singularities of Riemannian manifolds. In this article we develop the Fredholm theory of Dirac-Schrödinger systems with Lipschitz coefficients.
On a smooth complete Riemannian spin manifold with smooth compact boundary, we demonstrate that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator $\mathrm{D}_{\mathcal B}$ in $\mathrm{L}^{2}$ depends Riesz continuously on $\mathrm{L}^{\infty}$ perturbations of local boundary conditions ${\mathcal B}$. The Lipschitz bound for the map ${\mathcal B} \to {\mathrm{D}}_{\mathcal B}(1 + {\mathrm{D}}_{\mathcal B}^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ depends on Lipschitz smoothness and ellipticity of ${\mathcal B}$ and bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. More generally, we …
It is well known that, with a particular choice of norm, the classical double-layer potential operator $D$ has essential norm $<1/2$ as an operator on the natural trace space $H^{1/2}(Γ)$ whenever $Γ$ is the boundary of a bounded Lipschitz domain. This implies, for the standard second-kind boundary integral equations for the interior and exterior Dirichlet and Neumann problems in potential theory, convergence of the Galerkin method in $H^{1/2}(Γ)$ for any sequence of finite-dimensional subspaces $(\mathcal{H}_N)_{N=1}^\infty$ that is asymptotically dense in $H^{1/2}(Γ)$. Long-standing open que…
This paper concerns Hodge-Dirac operators D = d + $δ$ acting in L p ($Ω$, λ) where $Ω$ is a bounded open subset of R n satisfying some kind of Lipschitz condition, λ is the exterior algebra of R n , d is the exterior derivative acting on the de Rham complex of differential forms on $Ω$, and $δ$ is the interior derivative with tangential boundary conditions. In L 2 ($Ω$, λ), $δ$ = d * and D is self-adjoint, thus having bounded resolvents (I + itD) --1 t$\in$R as well as a bounded functional calculus in L 2 ($Ω$, λ). We investigate the range of values p H \textless{} p \textless{} p H about p = …
We establish a priori Lipschitz estimates for unbounded solutions of second-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations in R^N in presence of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck drift. We generalize the results obtained by Fujita, Ishii \& Loreti (2006) in several directions. The first one is to consider more general operators. We first replace the Laplacian by a general diffusion matrix and then consider a nonlocal integro-differential operator of fractional Laplacian type. The second kind of extension is to deal with more general Hamiltonians which are merely sublinear. These results are obtained for both degenerate …
We prove that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator ${\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}$ in ${\mathrm L}^2$ depends Riesz continuously on ${\mathrm L}^{\infty}$ perturbations of complete metrics ${\mathrm g}$ on a smooth manifold. The Lipschitz bound for the map ${\mathrm g} \to {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}(1 + {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ depends on bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. Our proof uses harmonic analysis techniques related to Calderón's first commutator and the Kato square root problem. We also show perturbation results for…
We consider limiting Carleman weights for Dirac operators and prove corresponding Carleman estimates. In particular, we show that limiting Carleman weights for the Laplacian also serve as limiting weights for Dirac operators. As an application we consider the inverse problem of recovering a Lipschitz continuous magnetic field and electric potential from boundary measurements for the Pauli Dirac operator.
Given a semi-convex potential V on a convex and bounded domain $Ω$, we consider the Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto scheme for the Fokker-Planck equation with potential V, which defines, for fixed time step $τ$ > 0, a sequence of densities $ρ$ k $\in$ P($Ω$). Supposing that V is $α$-convex, i.e. D 2 V $\ge$ $α$I, we prove that the Lipschitz constant of log $ρ$ + V satisfies the following inequality: Lip(log($ρ$ k+1) + V)(1 + $α$$τ$) $\le$ Lip(log($ρ$ k) + V). This provides exponential decay if $α$ > 0, Lipschitz bounds on bounded intervals of time, which is coherent with the results on the continuous…
A new integral equation formulation is presented for the Maxwell transmission problem in Lipschitz domains. It builds on the Cauchy integral for the Dirac equation, is free from false eigenwavenumbers for a wider range of permittivities than other known formulations, can be used for magnetic materials, is applicable in both two and three dimensions, and does not suffer from any low-frequency breakdown. Numerical results for the two-dimensional version of the formulation, including examples featuring surface plasmon waves, demonstrate competitiveness relative to state-of-the-art integral formul…
In this paper we study Clifford and harmonic analysis on some conformal flat spin manifolds. In particular we treat manifolds that can be parametrized by $U / Γ$ where $U$ is a simply connected subdomain of either $S^{n}$ or $R^{n}$ and $Γ$ is a Kleinian group acting discontinuously on $U$. Examples of such manifolds treated here include for example $RP^{n}$ and $S^{1}\times S^{n-1}$. Special kinds of Clifford-analytic automorphic forms associated to the different choices of $Γ$ are used to construct Cauchy kernels, Cauchy Integral formulas, Green's kernels and formulas together with Hardy spa…
We solve the Kato square root problem for second order elliptic systems in divergence form under mixed boundary conditions on Lipschitz domains. This answers a question posed by J.-L. Lions in 1962. To do this we develop a general theory of quadratic estimates and functional calculi for complex perturbations of Dirac-type operators on Lipschitz domains.
We provide a general scheme, in the combined frameworks of Mathematical Scattering Theory and Factorization Method, for inverse scattering for the couple of self-adjoint operators $(\widetildeΔ,Δ)$, where $Δ$ is the free Laplacian in $L^{2}({\mathbb R}^{3})$ and $\widetildeΔ$ is one of its singular perturbations, i.e., such that the set $\{u\in H^{2}({\mathbb R}^{3})\cap \text{dom}(\widetildeΔ)\, :\, Δu=\widetildeΔu\}$ is dense. Typically $\widetildeΔ$ corresponds to a self-adjoint realization of the Laplace operator with some kind of boundary conditions imposed on a null subset; in particular…
The conformal deformations are contained in two classes of mappings: quasiconformal and harmonic mappings. In this paper we consider the intersection of these classes. We show that, every $K$ quasiconformal harmonic mapping between $\,\mathscr C^{1,μ}$ ($0<α\le 1$) surfaces with $\,\mathscr C^{1,μ}$ boundary is a Lipschitz mapping. This extends some recent results of several authors where the same problem has been considered for plane domains. As an application it is given an explicit Lipschitz constant of normalized isothermal coordinates of a disk-type minimal surface in terms of boundary cu…
We analyze the propagation of Lipschitz continuity of solutions to various linear and nonlinear drift-diffusion systems, with and without incompressibility constraints. Diffusion is assumed to be either fractional or classical. Such equations model the incompressible Navier-Stokes systems, generalized viscous Burgers-Hilbert equation and various active scalars. We derive conditions that guarantee the propagation of Lipschitz regularity by the incompressible NSE in the form of a non-local, one dimensional viscous Burgers-type inequality. We show the analogous inequality is always satisfied for …
