We study exceptional minuscule Schubert varieties and provide the defining equations of the defining ideals of their intersection with the big open cell. We also provide the resolutions of these ideals and characterize some of them in terms of fundamental examples of ideals in the theory of Gorenstein ideals.

In this paper, we describe on the one hand, all relative minimal models Y of a minuscule Schubert variety X using some combinatorics on quivers and we prove that the morphism from Y to X is small (in the sense of intersection cohomology). We classify all Q-factorializations of (co)minuscule Schubert varieties by using their Mori dream space structure. As a corollary we obtain a description of all IH-small resolutions of (co)minuscule Schubert varieties generalizing results of Perrin. We improve his results by including algebraically closed fields of positive characteristic and cominuscule Schubert varieties. Moreover, the use of Q-factorializations and Mori dream spaces simplifies the arguments substantially.

Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over the field $\mathbb{C}$ of complex numbers, $B$ be a Borel subgroup of $G$ containing a maximal torus $T$ of $G.$ In this article, we show that $α$ is a co-minuscule root if and only if for any parabolic subgroup $Q$ containing $B$ properly, there is no Schubert variety $X_{Q}(w)$ in $G/Q$ such that the minimal parabolic subgroup $P_α$ of $G$ is the connected component, containing the identity automorphism of the group of all algebraic automorphisms of $X_{Q}(w).$

We study root-theoretic Young diagrams to investigate the existence of a Lie-type uniform and nonnegative combinatorial rule for Schubert calculus. We provide formulas for (co)adjoint varieties of classical Lie type. We study the quantum cohomology of quasi-minuscule and quasi-cominuscule homogeneous spaces. The product of any two Schubert cells does not involve powers of the quantum parameter higher than 2. With the help of the quantum to classical principle we give presentations of the quantum cohomology algebras. These algebras are semi-simple for adjoint non coadjoint varieties and some properties of the induced strange duality are shown.
