We apply Connes-Chamseddine spectral action to the $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$- extension of the Standard Model. We show that in order for the scalar potential to reach its minimum for a non-zero value of the new complex scalar field, thus triggering the breaking of B-L symmetry, a constraint on the quartic coupling constants must be satisfied at unification scale. We then explore the renormalization flow of this model in two opposite scenarios for the neutrino sector, and show that this constraint is not compatible with the pole masses of the top quark and SM Higgs boson. We also show that the model suffers from a mass-splitting problem similar to the doublet-triplet splitting problem of Grand Unified Theories. We discuss potential implications for the Noncommutative Geometry program.
In gauge mediation models with multiple spurion fields breaking SUSY and the R-symmetry separately, we show that it is possible to generate gaugino masses at one loop if the R-charge arrangement satisfies a certain condition. The resulting gaugino masses are calculated and suppressed by some power of the messenger mass scale. We present two simple examples to demonstrate this possibility, and discuss possible phenomenology implications.
The purpose of this paper is to show that the symmetry breaking into special subgroups is not special at all, contrary to the usual wisdom. To demonstrate this explicitly, we examine dynamical symmetry breaking pattern in 4D $SU(N)$ Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type models in which the fermion matter belongs to an irreducible representation of $SU(N)$. The potential analysis shows that for almost all cases at the potential minimum the $SU(N)$ group symmetry is broken to its special subgroups such as $SO(N)$ or $USp(N)$ when symmetry breaking occurs.
In this letter we uncover a new facet of chiral symmetry and the implications of its breaking in some theories. By generalizing the concept of chiral symmetry, tensor theories naturally arise. This novel approach adds to the known uses of tensor theories (quantum gravity, holography, entanglement, etc.) a possible link to QCD phenomena.
Theory of electroweak interactions without spontaneous symmetry breaking
The study of a EW theory without spontaneous symmetry breaking is presented. A new symmetry breaking, axial-vector symmetry breaking, is found. M^{2}_{W}=1/2g^{2}m^{2}_{t}, m^{2}_{Z}=ρm^{2}_{W}/cos^{2} θ, and G_{F} =1/(2 \sqrt{2} m^{2}_{t}) are obtained and they agree with data. It has been proved that the theory is renormalizable and unitary.
Recently, a simple prescription to embed the global Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry into a gauged $U(1)$ symmetry has been proposed. There, explicit breaking of the global PQ symmetry expected in quantum gravity are highly suppressed due to the gauged PQ symmetry. In this paper, we apply the gauged PQ mechanism to models where the global PQ symmetry and supersymmetry (SUSY) are simultaneously broken at around $\mathcal{O}(10^{11-12})$\,GeV. Such scenario is motivated by an intriguing coincidence between the supersymmetry breaking scale which explains the observed Higgs boson mass by the gravity med…
The concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) generally lacks a simple and intuitive introduction in the literature. This gap is filled by defining SSB in a universal context beyond its usual applications in physics and by discussing some very simple, but stunning examples of the phenomenon.
