In [Phys. Rev. A 82, 042103 (2010)], the authors showed that "for a class of the non-Markovian master equations in time-local forms", the quantum Fisher information (QFI) flow can be decomposed into additive subflows corresponding to different dissipative channels. However, the paper does not specify the class of non-Markovian time-local master equations for which their analytic decomposition of the QFI flow is valid. Here we show that several suppositions have to be made in order to reach the central result of Ref. \cite{luwsun10}, which appears to be valid for a narrow class of density operators $ρ(θ;t)$ and quantum Fisher information $\mathcal{F}(θ;t)$, and under strict conditions on the time-local master equation. More precisely, the decomposition of the QFI flow obtained in Ref. \cite{luwsun10} is valid under two conditions not mentioned in the paper: (i) $\frac{d}{dt} \left( \frac{\partial ρ}{\partial θ} \right)=$ $\frac{\partial}{\partial θ} \left( \frac{d ρ}{dt} \right)$; (ii) $\frac{\partial H}{\partial θ}=0$, $\frac{\partial γ_i}{\partial θ}=0$, $\frac{\partial A_i}{\partial θ}=0$, meaning that the Hamiltonian $H(t)$, the decay rates $γ_i(t)$, and the Lindblad operators $A_i(t)$ appearing in the non-Markovian time-local master equation have to not depend on the parameter $θ$ about which the quantum Fisher information is defined.
We propose to use the quantum Fisher information in characterizing the information flow of open quantum systems. This information-theoretic approach provides a quantitative measure to statistically distinguish Markovian and non-Markovian processes. A basic relation between the QFI flow and non-Markovianity is unveiled for quantum dynamics of open systems. For a class of time-local master equations, the exactly-analytic solution shows that the non-Markovianity is characterized by additive information sub-flows in different non-Markovian channels.
In this work, we investigate the non-Markovianity, quantum Fisher information (QFI) and quantum coherence of a qubit in a nonequilibrium environment and have obtained the expressions of QFI and quantum coherence as well as their relationship. We have also discussed in detail the influences of the different noise parameters on these quantum sffects. The results show that the suitable parameters of the nonequilibrium environment can retard the QFI and quantum coherence in both Markovian and non-Markovian regions. In addition, the smaller memory effects and the larger the jumping rate, the greate…
We explore the nonunital non-Markovian dynamics of a qubit immersed in a spin bath. The nonunital environmental effects on the precisions of quantum parameter estimation are investigated. The time-dependent transfer matrix and inhomogeneity vector are obtained for the description of the open dynamical process. The evolution of the coherent vectors for a qubit is studied so as to geometrically demonstrate the nonunital non-Markovian effects. The revivals of angles for the fidelity between a maximal mixed state and an arbitrary trajectory state are presented in the nonunital non-Markovian dynami…
We show that contrary to the claim in Sci. Rep. 7, 15492 (2017), the quantum Fisher information itself is not a valid coherence measure based on the resource theory of coherence because it can increase via an incoherent operation.
In the recent paper Terhal and Burkard derived a threshold result for fault-tolerant quantum computation under the assumption of the non-Markovian noise and claimed to rebut the objections rised by Alicki and Horodecki's. The purpose of this note is to show that the main condition used by Terhal and Burkard, although looking quite innocently, implies the assumption of the extremally low probability error per single quantum gate - p < 10^{-8} - 10^{-12} - i.e. the square of the expected threshold value for the case of Markovian noise.
We show that Grover's algorithm defines a geodesic in quantum Hilbert space with the Fubini-Study metric. From statistical point of view Grover's algorithm is characterized by constant Fisher's function. Quantum algorithms changing complexity class as Shor's factorization does not preserve constant Fisher's information. An adiabatic quantum factorization algorithm in non polynomial time is presented to exemplify the result.
The existence of a "non-Markovian dissipationless" regime, characterized by long lived oscillations, was recently reported for a class of quantum open systems (Zhang et al, PRL, 109, 170402, (2012)). It is claimed this could happen in the strong coupling regime, a surprising result which has attracted some attention. We show that this regime exists if and only if the total Hamiltonian is unbounded from below, casting serious doubts on the usefulness of this result.
By using the quantum Fisher information (QFI), we address the process of \textit{single}-parameter estimation in the presence of bosonic as well as fermionic environments and protection of information against the noise. In particular, the quantum interferometric power (IP) of the evolved state of the system is uncovered as an important lower bound for the QFIs of initially encoded parameters. Moreover, we unveil new witnesses of non-Markovianity, that can be used to detect efficiently the memory effects and backflow of information from the environment to the system. On the other hand, we also …
By using the quantum Yang-Baxterization approach to the three different Hamiltonians, we investigate the behavior of the quantum Fisher information (QFI) under the actions of these Hamiltonians on the different two-qubit input states and by estimating the meaningful parameter $φ$. We address the overall estimation properties by evaluating the QFI for the whole system undergone different unitary evolution. The results show that the behavior of the QFI depends on the choice of the initial states. Choosing the optimal input states can improve the precision of quantum parameter estimation. On the …
This is the reply to the 2nd version of the comment, [arXiv.1312.5286v2], by McCutcheon {\it et al.} on our paper [PRL 109, 170402 (2012)]. Our letter presents three examples. For the steady-state solution of the first example, i.e., the dissipationless part of Eq.(12) in the PRL, the 2nd version of the Comment claimed that "this [dissipationless] regime exists if and only if the total Hamiltonian is unbounded from below, casting serious doubts on the usefulness of this result." In this reply, we show again that the 2nd version of the Comment is also incorrect.
Deffner and Lutz [J. Phys. A 46, 335302 (2013) and Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 010402 (2013).] extended the Mandelstam-Tamm bound and the Margolus-Levitin bound to time-dependent and non-Markovian systems, respectively. Although the derivation of the Mandelstam-Tamm bound is correct, we point out that thier analysis of the Margolus-Levitin bound is incorrect. The Margolus-Levitin bound has not yet been established in time-dependent quantum systems, except for the adiabatic case.
A further argument is provided in the discussion on the correct form of the bound-state momentum wave function of the quasi-one-dimensional hydrogen atom; namely, considering its behavior at the large quantum indices, it is reconfirmed that the complex expression from Olendski (2017) {\it Eur. J. Phys.} {\bf 38} 038001 is a correct one. Groundlessness of other interpretations is also highlighted.
In the present study, time evolution of quantum Cramer-Rao bound of entangled N00N state, as phase sensitivity, is determined by the aid of quantum estimation theory in the presence decoherence channels. Also, the dynamic quantum process as decoherence approach is characterized by quantum fisher information flow and entanglement amount in order to distinguish between Markovian and Non-Markovian process. The comparison between quantum fisher information and quantum fisher information flow assists to comprehend the phase sensitivity evolution corresponding to Non-Markovian and Markovian process.…
The force estimation problem in quantum metrology with an arbitrary non-Markovian Gaussian bath is considered. No assumptions are made on the bath spectrum and coupling strength with the probe. Considering the natural global unitary evolution of both bath and probe and assuming initial global Gaussian states we are able to solve the main issues of any quantum metrological problem: the best achievable precision determined by the quantum Fisher information, the best initial state and the best measurement. Studying the short time behavior and comparing to regular Markovian dynamics we observe an …
Quantum metrology is a rapidly developing branch of quantum technologies. While various theories have been established on quantum metrology for Markovian processes, i.e., quantum channel estimation, quantum metrology for non-Markovian processes is much less explored. In this Letter, we establish a general framework of non-Markovian quantum metrology. For any parametrized non-Markovian process on a finite-dimensional system, we derive a formula for the maximal amount of quantum Fisher information that can be extracted from it by an optimally controlled probe state. In addition, we design an alg…
Quantum Fisher information characterizes the phase sensitivity of qubits in the spin-boson model with a finite bandwidth spectrum. In contrast with Markovian reservoirs, the quantum Fisher information will flow from the environments to qubits after some times if the bath parameter $s$ is larger than a critical value which is related to temperatures. The sudden change behavior will happen during the evolution of the quantum Fisher information of the maximal entanglement state in the non-Markovian environments. The sudden change times can be varied with the change of the bath parameter $s$. For …
Quantum metrology utilizes quantum effects to reach higher precision measurements of physical quantities compared with their classical counterparts. However the ubiquitous decoherence obstructs its application. Recently, non-Markovian effects are shown to be effective in performing quantum optical metrology under locally dissipative environments\cite{PhysRevLett.123.040402}. However, the mechanism is still rather hazy. Here, we uncover the reason why forming a bound state can protect the quantumness against a dissipative ambient via the quantum Fisher information of entangled coherent states. …
We prove the Zeno limit $N^{3/2}$ of the quantum Fisher information for frequency estimation with a general initial state of $N$ two-level atoms in the presence of local non-Markovian dephasing noise, which was demonstrated for a GHZ state by A. W. Chin, S. F. Huelga, M. B. Plenio (2012). For collective dephasing we prove that non-Markovian noise allows for better scaling for both correlated and uncorelated states. The quantum enhancement in precision is at least as good as in the local case.
We consider two non-Markovian models: Random Telegraph Noise (RTN) and non-Markovian dephasing (NMD). The memory in these models is studied from the perspective of quantum Fisher information flow. This is found to be consistent with the other well known witnesses of non-Markovianity. The two noise channels are characterized quantum information theoretically by studying their gate and channel fidelities. Further, the quantum coherence and its balance with mixedness is studied. This helps to put in perspective the role that the two noise channels can play in various facets of quantum information…
It is shown that calculation of the momentum Fisher information of the quasione- dimensional hydrogen atom recently presented by Saha et al (2017 Eur. J. Phys. {\bf 38} 025103) is wrong. A correct derivation is provided and its didactical advantages and scientific significances are highlighted.
By using the non-Markovian master equation, we investigate the effect of the cavity and the environment on the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of an atom qubit system in a dissipation cavity. We obtain the formulae of QFI for two different initial states and analyze the effect of the atom-cavity coupling and the cavity-reservoir coupling on the QFI. The results show that the dynamic behavior of the QFI is obviously dependent on the initial atomic states, the atom-cavity coupling and the cavity-reservoir coupling. The stronger the atom-cavity coupling, the quicker the QFI oscillates and the sl…
We analyze a specific role of probability density gradients in the theory of irreversible transport processes. The classic Fisher information and information entropy production concepts are found to be intrinsically entangled with the very notion of the Markovian diffusion process and that of the related (local) momentum conservation law.
The dynamics of quantum Fisher information (QFI) of the phase parameter in a driven two-state system is studied within the framework of non-Markovian dissipative process. The influences of memory effects, classical driving and detunings on the parameter-estimation precision are demonstrated by exactly solving the Hamiltonian under rotating-wave approximation. In sharp contrast with the results obtained in the presence of Markovian dissipation, we find that classical driving can drastically enhance the QFI, namely, the precision of parameter estimation in the non-Markovian regime. Moreover, the…
Any realistic quantum system is inevitably subject to an external environment. This environment makes the open-system dynamics significant for many quantum tech-nologies, such as entangled-state engineering, quantum simulation, and quantum sensing. The information flow of a system to its environment usually induces a Markovian process, while the backflow of information from the environment exhibits non-Markovianity. The practical environment, usually consisting of a large number of degrees of freedom, is hard to control, despite some attempts on controllable transitions from Markovian to non-M…

The problem of quantum metrology under the context of a particular non-Markovian quantum evolution is explored. We study the dynamics of the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of a composite quantum probe coupled to a Lorentzian environment, for a full variety of different classes of parameters. We are able to find the best metrological state which is not maximally entangled but is the one which evolves fastest. This is shown by evidencing a connection between QFI and different quantum speed limits. At the same time, by optimizing a control field acting over the probes, we show how the total inf…
The exactly analytical solutions for the dynamics of the dissipative three-level V-type and $Λ$-type atomic systems in the vacuum Lorentzian environments are presented. Quantum interference phenomenon between the two transitions in V-type atomic system is studied and the intuitive interference conditions are derived. For the dissipative $Λ$-type atomic system, we demonstrate that the similar quantum interference phenomenon does not exist. Finally, we study the dynamical evolution of quantum Fisher information, quantum entanglement and quantum coherence for the V-type atomic system. We find tha…
We apply the classical data processing inequality to quantum metrology to show that manipulating the classical information from a quantum measurement cannot aid in the estimation of parameters encoded in quantum states. We further derive a quantum data processing inequality to show that coherent manipulation of quantum data also cannot improve the precision in estimation. In addition, we comment on the assumptions necessary to arrive at these inequalities and how they might be avoided providing insights into enhancement procedures which are not provably wrong.
We explore signatures of the non-Markovianity in the time-resolved energy transfer processes for quantum open systems. Focusing on typical systems such as the exact solvable damped Jaynes-Cummings model and the general spin-boson model, we establish quantitative links between the time-resolved energy current and the symmetric logarithmic derivative quantum Fisher information (SLD-QFI) flow, one of measures quantifying the non-Markovianity, within the framework of non-Markovian master equations in time-local forms. From the relationships, we find in the damped Jaynes-Cummings model that the SLD…
In this paper, we have investigated the preservation of quantum Fisher information of a single-qubit system coupled to a common zero temperature reservoir through the addition of noninteracting qubits. The results show that, the QFI is completely protected in both Markovian and non-Markovian regimes by increasing the number of additional qubits. Besides, the phenomena of QFI display monotonic decay or non-monotonic with revival oscillations depending on the number of additional qubits in a common dissipative reservoir. Moreover, we extend this model to investigate the effect of additional qubi…
We generalize the quantum Fisher information flow proposed by Lu \textit{et al}. [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{82}, 042103 (2010)] to the multi-parameter scenario from the information geometry perspective. A measure named the \textit{intrinsic density flow} (IDF) is defined with the time-variation of the intrinsic density of quantum states (IDQS). IDQS measures the local distinguishability of quantum states in state manifolds. The validity of IDF is clarified with its vanishing under the parameter-independent unitary evolution and outward-flow (negativity) under the completely positive-divisible map. …
Non-Markovian evolution in open quantum systems is often characterized in terms of the backflow of information from environment to system and is thus an important facet in investigating the performance and robustness of quantum information protocols. In this work, we explore non-Markovianity through the breakdown of monotonicity of a metrological figure of merit, called the quantum interferometric power, which is based on the minimal quantum Fisher information obtained by local unitary evolution of one part of the system, and can be interpreted as a quantifier of quantum correlations beyond en…
After reviewing the main properties of time-evolutions of open quantum systems, some considerations about the positivity of factorized Markovian dynamics for bipartite systems are made. In particular, it is shown that the positivity of the whole time-evolution in general does not ask for the complete positivity of the single system time-evolutions, if they are allowed to differ. However, they must be completely positive if one is a small perturbation of the other, which is the typical situation for open systems in a heat bath.

Quantum Fisher information matrix (QFIM) is a core concept in theoretical quantum metrology due to the significant importance of quantum Cramér-Rao bound in quantum parameter estimation. However, studies in recent years have revealed wide connections between QFIM and other aspects of quantum mechanics, including quantum thermodynamics, quantum phase transition, entanglement witness, quantum speed limit and non-Markovianity. These connections indicate that QFIM is more than a concept in quantum metrology, but rather a fundamental quantity in quantum mechanics. In this paper, we summarize the pr…
Quantum Fisher information (QFI) is an important feature for the precision of quantum parameter estimation based on the quantum Cramér-Rao inequality. When the quantum state satisfies the von Neumann-Landau equation, the local quantum uncertainty (LQU), as a kind of quantum correlation, present in a bipartite mixed state guarantees a lower bound on QFI in the optimal phase estimation protocol [Phys. Rev. Lett. 110 (2013) 240402]. However, in the open quantum systems, there is not an explicit relation between LQU and QFI generally. In this paper, we study the relation between LQU and QFI in ope…
We analyse the problem of estimating a scalar parameter $g$ that controls the Hamiltonian of a quantum system subject to Markovian noise. Specifically, we place bounds on the growth rate of the quantum Fisher information with respect to $g$, in terms of the Lindblad operators and the $g$-derivative of the Hamiltonian $H$. Our new bounds are not only more generally applicable than those in the literature -- for example, they apply to systems with time-dependent Hamiltonians and/or Lindblad operators, and to infinite-dimensional systems such as oscillators -- but are also tighter in the settings…
We investigate the parameter estimation problem in a two-qubit system, in which each qubit is independently interacting with its Markovian environment. We study in detail the sensitivity of the estimation on the decoherence rate $γ$ and the two-qubit interaction strength $v$. In particular, the dynamics of quantum Fisher information are employed as a measure to quantify the precision of the estimations. We find that the quantum Fisher information with respect to the decoherence rate scales like $t^2/[\exp(γt)-1]$ and $\exp(-2γt)$ in the unitary limit and the completely decoherent limit, respec…
A master equation has been constructed for a global system-bath interaction both in the absence as well as presence of non-Markovian noise. For the memoryless case, it has been exactly solved for a paradigmatic class of two qubit states in high and zero temperature thermal environment. For the non-Markovian model, it has been solved for zero temperature bath. The evolution of quantum coherence and entanglement has been observed in presence of the above mentioned interactions. We show that the global part of the system-bath interaction compensates for the decoherence, resulting in slow down of …

Quantum Fisher information, as an intrinsic quantity for quantum states, is a central concept in quantum detection and estimation. When quantum measurements are performed on quantum states, classical probability distributions arise, which in turn lead to classical Fisher information. In this article, we exploit the classical Fisher information induced by quantum measurements, and reveal a rich hierarchical structure of such measurement-induced Fisher information. We establish a general framework for the distribution and transfer of the Fisher information. In particular, we illustrate three ext…
We obtain new types of exponential decay laws for solutions of density-matrix master equations in the weak-coupling limit: after comparing with results already present in the literature and developing the necessary techniques, we study the crucial aspect of complete positivity under fairly general conditions. We propose a new type of time average that guarantees complete positivity and approximates, in markovian fashion, the exact dynamics for a plethora of physical applications, no matter which are the spectral properties of the subsystem, or its dimensions. We shall comment on some interesti…
In a fully-controllable experiment platform for studying non-Markovian open quantum dynamics, we show that the non-Markovianity could be investigated from the global and local aspects. By mixing random unitary dynamics, we demonstrate non-Markovian and Markovian open quantum dynamics. From the global point of view, by tuning the base frequency we demonstrate the transition from the Markovianity to the non-Markovianity as measured by the quantum mutual information (QMI). In a Markovian open quantum process, the QMI decays monotonically, while it may rise temporarily in a non-Markovian process. …
