We consider a generic dark photon that arises from a hidden $U(1)$ gauge symmetry imposed on right-handed neutrinos ($ν_{R}$). Such a $ν_{R}$-philic dark photon is naturally dark due to the absence of tree-level couplings to normal matter. However, loop-induced couplings to charged leptons and quarks are inevitable, provided that $ν_{R}$ mix with left-handed neutrinos via Dirac mass terms. We investigate the loop-induced couplings and find that the $ν_{R}$-philic dark photon is not inaccessibly dark, which could be of potential importance to future dark photon searches at SHiP, FASER, Belle-II, LHC 14 TeV, etc.
Constraining dark matter models necessitates accurate predictions for large set of observables originating from collider physics, cosmology and astrophysics. We consider two classes of top-philic dark matter models where the dark sector is coupled to the Standard Model via the top quark and study the complementarity of dark matter relic density, direct and indirect detection and collider searches in exploring the model parameter space. We moreover investigate how higher-order corrections affect the results.
We investigate the phenomenology of a scalar top-philic dark matter candidate when adding a dimension-five contact interaction term, as motivated by possible underlying extensions of the Standard Model such as composite Higgs models. We show that the presence of contact interactions can have a major impact on the dark matter relic density as well as on its direct and indirect detection prospects, while the collider phenomenology of the model is unaffected. This underlines the complementarity of collider and cosmological constraints on dark matter models.
We explore the possibility that the discrepancy in the observed anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $Δa _μ$ and the predicted relic abundance of Dark Matter by Planck data, can be explained in a lepto-philic 2-HDM augmented by a real SM singlet scalar of mass $\sim$ 10-80 GeV. We constrain the model from the observed Higgs Decay width at LHC, LEP searches for low mass exotic scalars and anomalous magnetic moment of an electron $Δa_e$. This constrained light singlet scalar serves as a portal for the fermionic Dark Matter, which contributes to the required relic density of the universe. A larg…
We investigate the phenomenological viability of real spin half, zero and one dark matter candidates, which interact predominantly with third generation heavy quarks and gluons via the twenty-eight gauge invariant higher dimensional effective operators. The corresponding Wilson coefficients are constrained one at a time from the relic density $Ω^{\rm DM} h^2$ $\approx$ 0.1198. Their contributions to the thermal averaged annihilation cross-sections are shown to be consistent with the FermiLAT and H.E.S.S. experiments' projected upper bound on the annihilation cross-section in the $b\,\bar b$ mo…
We investigate the phenomenology of scalar singlet dark matter candidates that couple dominantly to the Standard Model via a Yukawa interaction with the top quark and a colored vector-like fermion. We estimate the viability of this vector-like portal scenario with respect to the most recent bounds from dark matter direct and indirect detection, as well as to dark matter and vector-like mediator searches at colliders. Moreover, we take QCD radiative corrections into account in all our theoretical calculations. This work complements analyses related both to models featuring a scalar singlet coup…
We consider extending the Standard Model by including an additional Abelian gauge group broken at low energies under which the right-handed top quark is the only effectively charged Standard Model fermion. The associated gauge boson $(Z')$ is then naturally top-philic and couples only to the rest of the SM particle content at loop-level or via kinetic mixing with the hypercharge gauge boson which is assumed to be small. Working at the effective theory level, we demonstrate that such a minimal extension allows for an improved fitting of the $\sim 2σ$ excess observed in $t\bar{t}h$ searches at t…
We study the self conjugate dark matter (DM) particles interacting primarily with the standard model leptons in an effective field theoretical frame work. We consider SM gauge invariant effective contact interactions between the Majorana fermion, real scalar and a real vector DM with leptons by evaluating the Wilson coefficients appropriate for interaction terms upto dimension-8 and obtain constraints on the parameters of the theory from the observed relic density, indirect detection observations and from the DM-electron scattering cross-sections in the direct detection experiments. Low energy…
We suggest a new model of 7 keV right-handed neutrino dark matter inspired by a recent observation of 3.5 keV X-ray line signal in the XMM-Newton observatory. It is difficult to derive the tiny masses with a suitable left-right mixing of the neutrino in a framework of ordinary simple type-I seesaw mechanism. We introduce a new Higgs boson, a dark matter-philic Higgs boson, in which the smallness of its vacuum expectation value can be achieved. We investigate suitable parameter regions where the observed dark matter properties are satisfied. We find that the vacuum expectation value of dark mat…
Proton-philic spin-dependent inelastic Dark Matter is a Weakly Inelastic Massive Particle scenario that can explain the DAMA yearly modulation effect in compliance with the constraints from other direct detection Dark Matter searches. We obtain updated ranges for its parameters both in a halo-independent approach and adopting a truncated Maxwellian for the WIMP velocity distribution constructing approximate frequentist confidence intervals from an effective chi-square including, among others, the latest experimental constraints from XENON1T, PANDAX-II, SuperCDMS and CDMSlite. In the halo-indep…
We present a comprehensive analysis of top-philic Majorana dark matter that interacts via a colored t-channel mediator. Despite the simplicity of the model -- introducing three parameters only -- it provides an extremely rich phenomenology allowing us to accommodate the relic density for a large range of coupling strengths spanning over six orders of magnitude. This model features all `exceptional' mechanisms for dark matter freeze-out, including the recently discovered conversion-driven freeze-out mode, with interesting signatures of long-lived colored particles at colliders. We constrain the…
We construct a weakly-coupled renormalizable model to explain the $750\mbox{GeV}$ diphoton excess. The $750\mbox{GeV}$ resonance (denoted as $X(750)$) is interpreted as a pseudoscalar coming from a complex singlet. The model also naturally provides a dark matter candidate. One most attractive feature of the model is that decays of $X(750)$ are all loop-induced so the diphoton rate is not diluted by unwanted tree level branching fractions. Relevant Yukawa interactions need not to be tuned to near non-perturbative region to explain the rate. The model is highly predictive, including the pseudosc…
We study the effective interactions of the fermionic, scalar and vector dark matter (DM) with leptons and neutral electroweak gauge Bosons induced by the higher dimensional effective twist-2 tensor operators. We constrain these lepto-philic, $τ^\pm$-philic and $U(1)_Y$ gauge Boson B-philic effective interactions of DM with the visible world from the WMAP and Planck data. The thermally averaged indirect DM pair annihilation cross-section and the DM-electron direct-detection cross-section for such DM candidates are observed to be consistent with the respective experimental data. Constraining coe…
Studies of dark matter lie at the interface of collider physics, astrophysics and cosmology. Constraining models featuring dark matter candidates entails the capability to provide accurate predictions for large sets of observables and compare them to a wide spectrum of data. We present a framework which, starting from a model lagrangian, allows one to consistently and systematically make predictions, as well as to confront those predictions with a multitude of experimental results. As an application, we consider a class of simplified dark matter models where a scalar mediator couples only to t…
This article provides the calculation of an effective vertex function between a nucleon and a $Z^\prime$ boson that couples preferentially to either the top quark or the third generation of fermions, for the purpose of calculating vector-portal dark matter nuclear recoil cross sections. Mixing effects between the new gauge group $U(1)^\prime$ and the Standard Model hypercharge group $U(1)_Y$ are taken into account. Contributions to the $U(1)^\prime$ nucleon current from heavy quarks are quantified using the heavy quark expansion. Also taken into account are contributions from the 1-loop $Z^\pr…
In Ref. \cite{Goyal:2019vsw}, we had considered simplified dark matter models interacting gravitationally with the Standard Model particles in a Randall-Sundrum frame work where models are considered with non-universal couplings. In the top-philic graviton model the right-handed top quarks are taken to interact strongly with the gravitons and in the lepton-philic model, we assume that only the right-handed charged leptons interact strongly with the gravitons. We extend the study to include not only the scalar, vector and spin-1/2 fermions but also spin-3/2 fermionic dark matter. We find that t…
We show that the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle scenario of proton-philic spin-dependent inelastic Dark Matter (pSIDM) can still provide a viable explanation of the observed DAMA modulation amplitude in compliance with the constraints from other experiments after the release of the DAMA/LIBRA-phase2 data and including the recent bound from COSINE-100, that uses the same $NaI$ target of DAMA. The pSIDM scenario provided a viable explanation of DAMA/LIBRA--phase1 both for a Maxwellian WIMP velocity distribution and in a halo-independent approach. At variance with DAMA/LIBRA-phase1, for whic…
Discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is a possible hint for new physics. A $Z^\prime$ particle with $μτ$ flavor violating couplings can give a large contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment due to the $τ$ mass enhancement at the one-loop level, and is known to explain the above discrepancy. In this paper, we study the potential of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for detecting such a $Z^\prime$ boson via the $p p \toμ^-μ^-τ^+τ^+ $ process. Earlier studies in the literature only considered the production channel …
In this work we consider a real scalar dark matter $S$ interacting only with $SU(2)_L$ singlet Up-type quarks $U_i=u_R,c_R,t_R$ via a vector-like fermion $ψ$ which has the same quantum number as $U_i$. The DM-nucleon scattering can proceed through both $h$-mediated Higgs portal (HP) and $ψ$-mediated vector-like portal (VLP), in which HP can receive sizable radiative corrections through the new fermions. We first study the separate constraints on the new Yukawa couplings $y_i$ and find that the constraints of XENON1T results are strong on $y_1$ from VLP scattering and on $y_3$ from its radiativ…

We discuss strategies to make inferences on the thermal relic abundance of a Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) when the same effective dimension-six operator that explains an experimental excess in direct detection is assumed to drive decoupling at freeze-out, and apply them to the proton-philic Spin-dependent Inelastic Dark Matter (pSIDM) scenario, a phenomenological set-up containing two states $χ_1$ and $χ_2$ with $m_{χ_2}>m_{χ_1}$ that we have shown in a previous paper to explain the DAMA effect in compliance with the constraints from other detectors. We update experimental constr…
We consider simplified dark matter models (DM) interacting gravitationally with the standard model (SM) particles in a Randall-Sundrum (RS) framework. In this framework, the DM particles interact through the exchange of spin-2 Kaluza-Klein (KK) gravitons in the $s$-channel with the SM particles. The parameter space of the RS model with universal couplings to SM particles is known to be strongly constrained from the LHC data. We are thus led to consider models with non-universal couplings. The first model we consider in this study is a top-philic graviton model in which only the right-handed to…
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model with a scalar top-philic Dark Matter (DM) $S$ coupling, apart from the Higgs portal, exclusively to the right-handed top quark $t_R$ and a colored vector-like top partner $T$ with a Yukawa coupling $y_{ST}$ which we call the topVL portal. When the Higgs portal is closed and $y_{ST}$ is perturbative $ (\lesssim 1)$, $TS\to (W^+b, gt)$, $SS\to t\bar{t}$ and $T\bar{T}\to (q\bar{q},gg)$ provide the dominant (co)annihilation contributions to obtain $Ω_{\rm DM} h^2\simeq 0.12$ in light, medium and heavy DM mass range, respectively. However, large …
We study the probing prospects of cosmic ray boosted dark matter (DM) in the framework of simplified electron-philic dark photon model. Focusing on the dark matter and dark photon masses around keV $\sim $ MeV scale, we consider the bounds obtained from the XENON1T and Super-K experiments. The electron bound state effects are treated carefully in calculating the XENON1T constraint. As for the detection at neutrino detector where the energy threshold is relatively higher, the large logarithmic effects induced by the scale hierarchy between the masses and momentum transfer are considered by intr…
We propose an unified model of dark matter and baryon asymmetry in a lepto-philic world above the electroweak scale. We provide an example where the inflaton decay products subsequently generate a lepton asymmetry and a dark matter abundance with an unique coupling in the early universe, while the present day decay of the dark matter through the same coupling gives rise the observed cosmic ray anomalies at PAMELA and Fermi Large Area Telescope.
Automated tools for the computation of particle physics' processes have become the backbone of phenomenological studies beyond the standard model. Here, we present MadDM v3.2. This release enables the fully automated computation of loop-induced dark-matter annihilation processes, relevant for indirect detection observables. Special emphasis lies on the annihilation into $γX$, where $X=γ, Z, h$ or any new particle even under the dark symmetry. These processes lead to the sharp spectral feature of monochromatic gamma lines -- a smoking-gun signature of dark matter in our Galaxy. MadDM provides t…
We introduce an $SU(2)_X^{}$ dark sector without any fermions and then realize a non-abelian kinetic mixing between the dark $SU(2)_X^{}$ gauge fields and the standard model $SU(2)_L^{}\times U(1)_Y^{}$ gauge fields. While one of the dark gauge bosons becomes a dark photon, the others can keep stable to form a dark matter particle. The nearly degenerate masses of dark photon and dark matter could be tested if the dark photon and the dark matter are both observed in the future.
We study the production of ultra-light dark photons from a network of near-global, Abelian-Higgs cosmic strings. We find that dark photons produced in this way are nonrelativistic today and can make up all of the dark matter for dark photon masses as small as $m_A \sim 10^{-22} \, \mathrm{eV}$.
We present a new mechanism for producing the correct relic abundance of dark photon dark matter over a wide range of its mass, extending down to $10^{-20}\,\mathrm{eV}$. The dark matter abundance is initially stored in an axion which is misaligned from its minimum. When the axion starts oscillating, it efficiently transfers its energy into dark photons via a tachyonic instability. If the dark photon mass is within a few orders of magnitude of the axion mass, $m_{γ'}/m_a = {\cal O}(10^{-3} - 1)$, then dark photons make up the dominant form of dark matter today. We present a numerical lattice si…
The dark photon and the axion (or axion-like particle) are popular light particles of the hidden sector. Each of them has been actively searched for through the couplings called the vector portal and the axion portal. We introduce a new portal connecting the dark photon and the axion (axion--photon--dark photon, axion--dark photon--dark photon), which emerges in the presence of the two particles. This dark axion portal is genuinely new couplings, not just from a product of the vector portal and the axion portal, because of the internal structure of these couplings. We present a simple model th…
Radiatively decaying dark matter may be searched through investigating the photon spectrum of galaxies and galaxy clusters. We explore whether the properties of dark matter can be constrained through the study of a polarization state of emitted photons. Starting from the basic principles of quantum mechanics we show that the models of symmetric dark matter are indiscernible by the photon polarization. However, we find that the asymmetric dark matter consisted of Dirac fermions is a source of circularly polarized photons, calling for the experimental determination of the photon state.
We analyse dark matter (DM) produced somehow in space-time is charged under the hidden $U^{\prime} (1)$ gauge symmetry and interacting with Standard Model (SM) through the scale invariance breaking sector containing dilatons and dark photons (DP). We find the solutions for DM and DP in terms of observables. The DM observable is under DP field shape influence. DP is the natural mediator between DM and the SM sectors. The phenomenology of DP physics and the registration of dark photons are discussed.
Dark matter particles may interact with other dark matter particles via a new force mediated by a dark photon, $A^{\prime}$, which would be the dark-sector analog to the ordinary photon of electromagnetism. The dark photon can obtain a highly suppressed mixing-induced coupling to the electromagnetic current, providing a portal through which dark photons can interact with ordinary matter. This review focuses on $A^{\prime}$ scenarios that are potentially accessible to accelerator-based experiments. We summarize the existing constraints placed by such experiments on dark photons, highlight what …
An extension to the original dark photon model is proposed, by a generalization of matrix transformation with any angle θ of orthogonal rotation. Not only all the results presented by the dark photon model have been accurately reproduced, but new horizons have been opened by exploring new fields induced by this generalization, with new possibilities in the investigation and research of dark photon in particular and dark matter in general.
Motivated by the growing interest in the existence of new massive gauge bosons, we suggest that massive dark photons A0 can be a consequence of a broken new abelian symmetry U(1)'X. Such a dark symmetry U(1)'D is afterwards supposed to be associated with the conservation of the weak number W belonging to the Weakling Interacting Slim Particles U(1)'W, being a strong candidate for Hot Dark Matter. The latters correspond then to light dark photons m'A inf keV from a weak symmetry breaking scale sup 10keV.
Dark photons may kinetically mix with our photon and modify Maxwell's equations. We examine their impact on the Lorentz force acting on the plasma in astrophysical magnetospheres. Solving the relevant magnetohydrodynamic equations, we show that any dark photon effect is negligible. The existing bound on dark photons with a mass below $10^{-14}$ eV, coming from Pioneer 10 observations of Jupiter's magnetosphere, relies on such an effect and is thus unreliable. To rectify this, we use recent Juno analyses to isolate any dark photon-induced modification of the Jovian magnetic field and hence plac…
Dark matter could be made up of dark photons, massive but very light particles whose interactions with matter resemble those of usual photons but suppressed by a small mixing parameter. We analyze the main approaches to dark photon interactions and how they can be applied to direct detection experiments which test different ranges of masses and mixings. A new experiment based on counting dark photons from induced atomic transitions in a target material is proposed. This approach appears to be particularly appropriate for dark photon detection in the meV mass range, extending the constraints in…
A new U(1) gauge symmetry is the simplest extension of the Standard Model and has various theoretical and phenomenological motivations. In this paper, we study the cosmological constraint on the MeV scale dark photon. After the neutrino decoupling era at $T = \mathcal{O}(1)\,$MeV, the decay and annihilation of the dark photon heats up the electron and photon plasma and accordingly decreases the effective number of neutrino $N_{\mathrm{eff}}$ in the recombination era. We derive a conservative lower-limit of the dark photon mass around 8.5 MeV from the current Planck data if the mixing between t…
The dark photon is a new gauge boson which arises from an extra U'(1) gauge symmetry. In this paper, a novel dark photon production mechanism based on MeV-scale $γ$-$γ$ collider is considered: $γγ\rightarrow γA'$. With the aid of PACKAGE-X, differential cross section of $γγ\rightarrow γA'$ is obtained, as a function of the kinetic mixing parameter $\varepsilon$ and dark photon mass $m_{A'}$. Taking the light-by-light scattering as background, the constraints on the dark photon parameter space for different time intervals in a MeV-scale $γ$-$γ$ collider are also given.
We find the Standard Model sector (SM) interacts to Dark matter (DM) sector through the scale invariant degrees of freedom - the dilatons and Dark photons (DP). The latter have an interplay with SM via the derivatives of the scalar dilaton fields, while to DM it relates via DM current.
We present a novel study of the non-abelian vector dark matter candidate $W^\prime$ with a MeV$-$GeV low mass range, accompanied by a dark photon $A^\prime$ and a dark $Z^\prime$ of similar masses in the context of a simplified gauged two-Higgs-doublet model. The model is scrutinized by taking into account various experimental constraints including dark photon searches, electroweak precision data, relic density of dark matter together with its direct and indirect searches, mono-jet and Higgs collider physics from LHC. The viable parameter space of the model consistent with all experimental and…
We present the supernova constraints on an axion-photon-dark photon coupling, which can be the leading coupling to dark sector models and can also lead to dramatic changes to axion cosmology. We show that the supernova bound on this coupling has two unusual features. One occurs because the scattering that leads to the trapping regime converts axions and dark photons into each other. Thus, if one of the two new particles is sufficiently massive, both production and scattering become suppressed and the bounds from bulk emission and trapped (area) emission both weaken exponentially and do not int…
In the framework of hypercolor scenario of multicomponent Dark Matter, inelastic interaction of high energy photons with the Dark Matter candidates is considered. This reaction results in production of energetic leptons and neutrinos, and the Dark Matter particles also can be boosted. Total and differential cross sections have been calculated. The search of correlations between detected signals of high-energy photons and neutrinos can give an information on the Dark Matter scenario and dynamics.
