We consider non-relativistic point-particles coupled to Einstein gravity and their canonical quantization. From the resulting Wheeler-DeWitt wave equation we determine a quantum version of geometrodynamics, where the coupled evolution of particle positions and 3-metric is guided by the wave function. We find that this quantum dynamics implies a quantum extension of the Einstein equations. The conserved energy-momentum tensor now contains a quantum contribution. This conceptually-simple set up is promising both for deriving semiclassical and weak field approximations to the quantum Einstein equations and is thus important for the development of quantum corrections to computational general relativity.
In this article, we give a definition of apparent horizon in a two dimensional general dilaton gravity theory. With this definition, we construct the mechanics of the apparent horizon by introducing a quasi-local energy of the theory. Our discussion generalizes the apparent horizons mechanics in general spherically symmetric spactimes in four or higher dimensions to the two dimensional dilaton gravity case.
The problem of time in the quantization of gravity arises from the fact that time in Schroedinger's equation is a parameter. This sets time apart from the spatial coordinates, represented by operators in quantum mechanics (QM). Thus "time" in QM and "time" in General Relativity (GR) are seen as mutually incompatible notions. The introduction of a dy- namical time operator in relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM), that in the Heisenberg representation is also a function of the parameter t (iden- tifed as the laboratory time), prompts to examine whether it can help to solve the disfunction referr…
In this paper, we derive the Einstein's field equation (EFE) by considering an non-commuting two dimensional quantized space, which can be excited by absorbing energy. Any variation of the energy level of space quantas, will result in a change in the quanta's area state. This means, that the geometry of space depends on the energy which exists in it. Using Holographic principle and Unruh effect, without any further assumptions like equipartition theorem, our model leads to Newton's law of gravity in the limit $\hbar \to 0$.
We consider a modification of General Relativity motivated by the treatment of anisotropies in Continuum Mechanics. The Newtonian limit of the theory is formulated and applied to galactic rotation curves. By assuming that the additional structure of spacetime behaves like a Newtonian gravitational potential for small deviations from isotropy, we are able to recover the Navarro-Frenk-White profile of dark matter halos by a suitable identification of constants. We consider the Burkert profile in the context of our model and also discuss rotation curves more generally.
Gravity-induced quantum interference is an experiment that exhibits how a gravitational effect appears in quantum mechanics. In this famous experiments gravity was added to the system just classically. In our study we do the related calculations on a gravitational wave background. We realize that the effect of gravitational wave would be detectable in this quantum mechanical effect.
Planck scale inspired theories which are also often accompanied with maximum energy and/or momentum scale predict deformed dispersion relations compared to ordinary special relativity and quantum mechanics. In this paper we resort to the methods of statistical mechanics in order to determine the effects of a deformed dispersion relation along with upper bound in partition function as maximum energy and/or momentum scale can have on the thermodynamics of photon gas. We have analyzed two distinct quantum gravity models in this paper
In this note, I review a recent approach to quantum gravity that "gravitizes" quantum mechanics by emerging geometry and gravity from complex quantum states. Drawing further insights from tensor network toy models in AdS/CFT, I propose that approximate quantum error correction codes, when re-adapted into the aforementioned framework, also has promise in emerging gravity in near-flat geometries.
We study Quantum Gravity effects on the density of states in statistical mechanics and its implications for the critical temperature of a Bose Einstein Condensate and fraction of bosons in its ground state. We also study the effects of compact extra dimensions on the critical temperature and the fraction. We consider both neutral and charged bosons in the study and show that the effects may just be measurable in current and future experiments.
In this paper, we derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy by considering a Non-Commuting two dimensional quantized space, and we will show that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is valid for the system (black hole) in an equilibrium state. Also, by using the entropy was obtained, we derive the Einstein and Newton gravity equation, and finally, we get an equation that is consistent with the previous results. In other words, we want to show that by using the statistical mechanics and quantization of space and the excitation of space quanta, can be obtained the Einstein and Newton gravity equation. In…
Semi-classical gravity is an approximation to quantum gravity where gravity is treated classically and matter quantum mechanically. Matter is described by quantum field theory on curved space-time, whereas gravity is described by a space-time metric which satisfies Einstein's field equations. In the usual approach to semi-classical gravity, the matter source term in Einstein's field equations is given by the expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor operator. In this paper, we suggest an alternative approach based on Bohmian mechanics. In Bohmian mechanics, a quantum system is described …
We apply the covariant analytic mechanics with the differential forms to the Dirac field and the gravity with the Dirac field. The covariant analytic mechanics treats space and time on an equal footing regarding the differential forms as the basic variables. A significant feature of the covariant analytic mechanics is that the canonical equations, in addition to the Euler-Lagrange equation, are not only manifestly general coordinate covariant but also gauge covariant. Combining our study and the previous works (the scalar field, the abelian and non-abelian gauge fields and the gravity without …
We introduced with coauthors some years ago a solution to the problem of time in quantum gravity which consists in formulating the quantum theory in terms of real clocks. It combines Page and Wootters' relational proposal with Rovelli's evolving constants of the motion. Time is associated with an operator and not a classical parameter. We show here that this construction provides a natural solution to the time of arrival problem in quantum mechanics and leads to a well defined time-energy uncertainty relation for the clocks.
Particle probe analysis of the Kehagias - Sfetsos black hole spacetime of Ho% řava-Lifshitz gravity is extended to wave probe analysis within the framework of quantum mechanics. The timelike naked singularity that develops when $ωM^{2}<1/2$, is probed with quantum fields obeying Klein-Gordon and Chandrasekhar-Dirac equations. Quantum field probe of the naked singularity has revealed that both the spatial part of the wave and the Hamiltonian operators of Klein-Gordon and Chandrasekhar-Dirac equations are essentially self-adjoint and thus, the naked singularity in the Kehagias - Sfetsos spacetim…
General relativity has two fundamental problems that render it unsuitable for tackling the gravitational field's quantization. The first problem is the lack of a genuine gravitational variable representing gravitation only, inertial forces apart. The second problem is its incompatibility with quantum mechanics, a problem inherited from the more fundamental conflict of special relativity with quantum mechanics. A procedure to overcome these difficulties is outlined, which amounts to replacing general relativity with its teleparallel equivalent and the Poincaré-invariant special relativity with …
Recently there has been a great deal of interest in tabletop experiments intended to exhibit the quantum nature of gravity by demonstrating that it can induce entanglement. We argue that these experiments also provide new information about the interpretation of quantum mechanics: under appropriate assumptions, $ψ$-complete interpretations will generally predict that these experiments will have a positive result, $ψ$-nonphysical interpretations predict that these experiments will not have a positive result, and for $ψ$-supplemented models there may be arguments for either outcome. We suggest th…
Presented is a quantum gravity theory that is a quantum mechanical generalization of Einstein's vierbein field-based approach, where the classical metric tensor field is promoted to a quantum mechanical metric tensor field operator. The quantum gravity theory derives from quantum information dynamics intrinsic to quantized space, which is taken to be a tensor product space on a qubit array. Hence, the metric tensor field operator is expressed as a product of two frame 4-vectors, which are anticommuting operators and naturally represented by Dirac matrices. The quantum gravity theory reduces to…
The speculation that gravity is the key to solving the quantum measurement problem has been alive for decades, without any convincing demonstration of a solution. One necessary factor in the relevant proposals is that the gravitational energy of mutual interaction, which scales quadratically with the mass, facilitates the spontaneous collapse of the wavefunctions in spatially separated superpositions. Relying on a simple physical input from electrodynamics, supported by robust first principle calculations, we show that the speculations connecting gravity and the hypothetical spontaneous collap…
We discuss the quantum mechanical description of a gravitational wave interacting with a cavity electromagnetic field. Quantum fluctuations of the gravitational vacuum induce squeezing in the optical field. Moreover, this squeezing experiences revivals, a purely quantum effect. Measuring these gravitationally induced revivals, although out of reach from experiments, would provide evidence on the quantum nature of gravity. We also discuss the quantum mechanical treatment of the interaction between coherent and squeezed gravitational wave states and a gravity wave detector. In the case of a cohe…
Alcubierre warp drive metric is coupled to quantum mechanical scalar matter field. The requirement of the exotic matter for the warp drive is mapped into a conformal wave equation. This result into a fourth order partial differential equation in terms of the quantum mechanical density. Finding a proper quantum mechanical density obeying the proposed partial differential equation will be a resolution to the exotic matter problem of Alcubierre warp drive in Bohmian Quantum Gravity context.
Models for deterministic quantum mechanics of Cartan-Randers type are introduced, together with the fundamental notions of the concentration of measure theory. We explain how the application of the concentration of measure to Cartan-Randers models provides a framework from which it emerge 1. The invariance under infinitesimal diffeomorphisms of the macroscopic dynamics 2. A mechanism for reduction of the quantum state and 3. The Weak Equivalence Principle.
