Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians are relevant to describe the features of a broad class of physical phenomena, ranging from photonics and atomic and molecular systems to nuclear physics and mesoscopic electronic systems. An important question relies on the understanding of the influence of curved background on the static and dynamical properties of non-Hermitian systems. In this work, we study the interplay of geometry and non-Hermitian dynamics by unveiling the existence of curvature-dependent non-Hermitian phase transitions. We investigate a prototypical model of Dirac fermions on a sphere with an imaginary mass term. This exactly-solvable model admits an infinite set of curvature-dependent pseudo-Landau levels. We characterize these phases by computing an order parameter given by the pseudo-magnetization and, independently, the non-Hermitian fidelity susceptibility. Finally, we probe the non-Hermitian phase transitions by computing the (generalized) Loschmidt echo and the dynamical fidelity after a quantum quench of the imaginary mass and find singularities in correspondence of exceptional radii of the sphere.
Non-Hermitian systems in condensed matter Physics are well studied in recent years. In conventional viewpoint, the non-Hermiticity of a Hamiltonian is obtained by dissipative or gain and loss. Recently, some people investigate the non-Hermiticity from other perspective, which point out that non-Hermiticity may come from the curved space. In this letter, we derive a duality between a generalized non-Hermitian HN model in $d$-dimensional flat space and a Hermitian system in $3d$-dimensional curved space, and give the metric of the curved space analytically. From this duality, we establish a corr…
We propose to uncover the topology of a pseudo-Hermitian Chern insulator by quantum quench dynamics. The Bloch Hamiltonian of the pseudo-Hermitian Chern insulator is defined in the basis of the q-deformed Pauli matrices, which are related to the representation of the deformed algebras. We show the bulk-surface duality of the pseudo-Hermitian phases, then further build a concrete relation between the static band topology and quench dynamics, in terms of the time-averaged spin textures. The results are also generalized into a fully nonequilibrium case where the postquench evolution is governed b…
The surface Hamiltonian for a spin zero particle that is pinned to a surface by letting the thickness of a layer surrounding the surface go to zero -- assuming a strong normal force -- is constructed. The new approach we follow to achieve this is to start with an expression for the 3D momentum operators whose components along the surface and the normal to the surface are separately Hermitian. The normal part of the kinetic energy operator is a Hermitian operator in this case. When this operator is dropped and the thickness of the layer is set to zero, one automatically gets the Hermitian surfa…
Periodically driven non-Hermitian systems could possess exotic nonequilibrium phases with unique topological, dynamical and transport properties. In this work, we introduce an experimentally realizable two-leg ladder model subjecting to both time-periodic quenches and non-Hermitian effects, which belongs to an extended CII symmetry class. Due to the interplay between drivings and nonreciprocity, rich non-Hermitian Floquet topological phases emerge in the system, with each of them been characterized by a pair of even-integer topological invariants $(w_{0},w_π)\in2\mathbb{Z}\times2\mathbb{Z}$. U…
Higher-order topological phases are characterized by protected states localized at the corners or hinges of the system. By applying time-periodic quenches to a two-dimensional lattice with balanced gain and loss, we obtain a rich variety of non-Hermitian Floquet second order topological insulating phases. Each of the phases is characterized by a pair of integer topological invariants, which predict the numbers of Floquet corner modes at zero and $π$ quasienergies. We establish the topological phase diagram of the model, and find a series of non-Hermiticity induced transitions between different…
We study the quench dynamics of non-Hermitian topological models with non-Hermitian skin effects. Adopting the non-Bloch band theory and projecting quench dynamics onto the generalized Brillouin zone, we find that emergent topological structures, in the form of dynamic skyrmions, exist in the generalized momentum-time domain, and are correlated with the non-Bloch topological invariants of the static Hamiltonians. The skyrmion structures anchor on the fixed points of dynamics whose existence are conditional on the coincidence of generalized Brillouin zones of the pre- and post-quench Hamiltonia…
Quantum systems are often classified into Hermitian and non-Hermitian ones. Extraordinary non-Hermitian phenomena, ranging from the non-Hermitian skin effect to the supersensitivity to boundary conditions, have been widely explored. Whereas these intriguing phenomena have been considered peculiar to non-Hermitian systems, we show that they can be naturally explained by a duality between non-Hermitian models in flat spaces and their counterparts, which could be Hermitian, in curved spaces. For instance, prototypical one-dimensional (1D) chains with uniform chiral tunnelings are equivalent to th…
The development of non-Hermitian topological band theory has led to observations of novel topological phenomena in effectively classical, driven and dissipative systems. However, for open quantum many-body systems, the absence of a ground state presents a challenge to define robust signatures of non-Hermitian topology. We show that such a signature is provided by crossings in the time evolution of the entanglement spectrum. These crossings occur in quenches from the trivial to the topological phase of a driven-dissipative Kitaev chain that is described by a Markovian quantum master equation in…
We investigate a quantum quench from a critical to an exceptional point. The initial state, prepared in the ground state of a critical hermitian system, is time evolved with a non-hermitian SSH model, tuned to its exceptional point. The single particle density matrix exhibits supersonic modes and multiple light cones, characteristic to non-hermitian time evolution. These propagate with integer multiples of the original Fermi velocity. In the long time limit, the fermionic Green's function decays spatially as $1/x^2$, in sharp contrast to the usual $1/x$ decay of non-interacting fermions. The e…
Non-Hermitian topological phases in static and periodically driven systems have attracted great attention in recent years. Finding dynamical probes for these exotic phases would be of great importance in the detection and application of their topological properties. In this work, we propose a systematic approach to dynamically characterize non-Hermitian Floquet topological phases in one-dimension with chiral symmetry. We show that the topological invariants of a chiral symmetric Floquet system can be fully determined by measuring the winding angles of its time-averaged spin textures. We furthe…
The dynamical and topological properties of non-Hermitian systems have attracted great attention in recent years. In this work, we establish an intrinsic connection between two classes of intriguing phenomena -- topological phases and dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs) -- in non-Hermitian systems. Focusing on one-dimensional models with chiral symmetry, we find DQPTs following the quench from a trivial to a non-Hermitian topological phase. Moreover, the number of critical momenta and critical time periods of the DQPTs are found to be directly related to the topological invariants of t…
The cooperation between time-periodic driving fields and non-Hermitian effects could endow systems with distinctive spectral and transport properties. In this work, we uncover an intriguing class of non-Hermitian Floquet matter in one-dimensional quasicrystals, which is characterized by the emergence of multiple driving-induced ${\cal PT}$-symmetry breaking/restoration, mobility edges, and reentrant localization transitions. These findings are demonstrated by investigating the spectra, level statistics, inverse participation ratios and wavepacket dynamics of a periodically quenched nonreciproc…
Non-Hermiticity is expected to add far more physical features to the already rich Floquet topological phases of matter. Nevertheless, a systematic approach to characterize non-Hermitian Floquet topological matter is still lacking. In this work we introduce a dual scheme to characterize the topology of non-Hermitian Floquet systems in momentum space and in real space, using a piecewise quenched nonreciprocal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model for our case studies. Under the periodic boundary condition, topological phases are characterized by a pair of experimentally accessible winding numbers that make…
We report on the dynamical formation of exceptional degeneracies in basic correlation functions of non-integrable one- and two-dimensional systems quenched to the vicinity of a critical point. Remarkably, fine-tuned semi-metallic points in the phase diagram of the considered systems are thereby promoted to topologically robust non-Hermitian (NH) nodal phases emerging in the coherent long-time evolution of a dynamically equilibrating system. In the framework of non-equilibrium Green's function methods within the conserving second Born approximation, we predict observable signatures of these nov…
We investigate topological lasers in combination of nonlinear, non-Hermitian and topological lattice systems based on a quench dynamics starting from one site. We consider explicitly the topological laser in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with two topological edge states and the second-order topological laser in the breathing Kagome lattice with three topological corner states. Once we stimulate any one site, after a delay, all sites belonging to the topological edge or corner states begin to emit stable laser light depending on the density of states, although no wave propagation is obse…
The existence of topological zero modes in nontrivial phase of quantum Ising chain results in not only the Kramers-like degeneracy spectrum, but also dynamic response for non-Hermitian perturbation in the ordered phase (2021 Phys. Rev. Lett. 126 116401). In this work, we investigate the possible response of the degeneracy spectrum for Hermitian perturbations. We provide a single-particle description of the model in the ordered phase, associating with an internal degree of freedom characterized as a pseudospin. The effective magnetic field, arising from both local and nonlocal perturbations in …
Periodically driven non-Hermitian systems can exhibit rich topological band structure and non-Hermitian skin effect, without analogs in their static or Hermitian counterparts. In this work we investigate the exceptional band-touching points in the Floquet quasi-energy bands, the topological characterization of such exceptions points and the Floquet non-Hermitian skin effect (FNHSE). Specifically, we exploit the simplicity of periodically quenched two-band systems in one dimension or two dimensions to analytically obtain the Floquet effective Hamiltonian as well as locations of the many excepti…
Non-Bloch topological invariants preserve the bulk-boundary correspondence in non-Hermitian topological systems, and are a key concept in the contemporary study of non-Hermitian topology. Here we report the dynamic detection of non-Bloch topological invariants in single-photon quantum walks, revealed through the biorthogonal chiral displacement, and crosschecked with the dynamic spin textures in the generalized quasimomentum-time domain following a quantum quench. Both detection schemes are robust against symmetry-preserving disorders, and yield consistent results with theoretical predictions.…
Knots have a twisted history in quantum physics. They were abandoned as failed models of atoms. Only much later was the connection between knot invariants and Wilson loops in topological quantum field theory discovered. Here we show that knots tied by the eigenenergy strings provide a complete topological classification of one-dimensional non-Hermitian (NH) Hamiltonians with separable bands. A $\mathbb{Z}_2$ knot invariant, the global biorthogonal Berry phase $Q$ as the sum of the Wilson loop eigenphases, is proved to be equal to the permutation parity of the NH bands. We show the transition b…
A macroscopic effect can be induced by a local non-Hermitian term in a many-body system, when it manifests simultaneously level coalescence of a full real degeneracy spectrum, leading to exceptional spectrum. In this paper, we propose a family of systems that support such an intriguing property. It is generally consisted of two arbitrary identical Hermitian sub-lattices in association with unidirectional couplings between them. We show exactly that all single-particle eigenstates coalesce in pairs even only single unidirectional coupling appears. It means that all possible initial states obey …

We study nonreciprocal nonlinear Schrödinger systems. As a prototype we analyze the Hatano-Nelson model together with a typical nonlinear term introduced and its generalization to two dimensions. We employ the quench dynamics, where a pulse is given to one site and its time evolution is analyzed. It is found that the skin state is always formed due to the nonreciprocal hopping and hence that the system is topological. However, the structure of the skin state is essentially modified by the nonlinear interaction because it favors a self-trapping. Four typically different states emerge as an inte…
This work introduces a new class of robust states known as Exceptional Boundary (EB) states, which are distinct from the well-known topological and non-Hermitian skin boundary states. EB states occur in the presence of exceptional points, which are non-Hermitian critical points where eigenstates coalesce and fail to span the Hilbert space. This eigenspace defectiveness not only limits the accessibility of state information, but also interplays with long-range order to give rise to singular propagators only possible in non-Hermitian settings. Their resultant EB eigenstates are characterized by …
