We propose Picard-Fuchs equations for periods of nonabelian mirrors in this paper. The number of parameters in our Picard-Fuchs equations is the rank of the gauge group of the nonabelian GLSM, which is eventually reduced to the actual number of Kähler parameters. These Picard-Fuchs equations are concise and novel. We justify our proposal by reproducing existing mathematical results, namely Picard-Fuchs equations of Grassmannians and Calabi-Yau manifolds as complete intersections in Grassmannians. Furthermore, our approach can be applied to other nonabelian GLSMs, so we compute Picard-Fuchs equations of some other Fano-spaces, which were not calculated in the literature before. Finally, the cohomology-valued generating functions of mirrors can be read off from our Picard-Fuchs equations. Using these generating functions, we compute Gromov-Witten invariants of various Calabi-Yau manifolds, including complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds in Grassmannians and non-complete intersection Calabi-Yau examples such as Pfaffian Calabi-Yau threefold and Gulliksen-Negård Calabi-Yau threefold, and find agreement with existing results in the literature. The generating functions we propose for non-complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds are genuinely new.
We study relative Gromov-Witten theory via universal relations provided by the interaction of degeneration and localization. We find relative Gromov-Witten theory is completely determined by absolute Gromov-Witten theory. The relationship between the relative and absolute theories is guided by a strong analogy to classical topology. As an outcome, we present a mathematical determination of the Gromov-Witten invariants (in all genera) of the Calabi-Yau quintic 3-fold in terms of known theories.
We compute local Gromov-Witten invariants of cubic surfaces at all genera. We use a deformation of a cubic surface to a nef toric surface and the deformation invariance of Gromov-Witten invariants.
The study of open/closed string duality and large $N$ duality suggests a Gromov-Witten theory for conifolds that sits on the border of both a closed Gromov-Witten theory and an open Gromov-Witten theory. In this work we employ the result of Jun Li on Gromov-Witten theory for a projective singular variety of the gluing form $Y_1\cup_D Y_2$ to extract Gromov-Witten invariants of a conifold.
The local Gromov-Witten theory of curves is solved by localization and degeneration methods. Localization is used for the exact evaluation of basic integrals in the local Gromov-Witten theory of P^1. A TQFT formalism is defined via degeneration to capture higher genus curves. Together, the results provide a compete and effective solution. The local Gromov-Witten theory of curves is equivalent to the local Donaldson-Thomas theory of curves, the quantum cohomology of the Hilbert scheme points of C^2, and the orbifold quantum cohomology the symmetric product of C^2. The results of the paper provi…
We use a topological framework to study descendent Gromov-Witten theory in higher genus, non-toric settings. Two geometries are considered: surfaces of general type and the Enriques Calabi-Yau threefold. We conjecture closed formulas for surfaces of general type in classes K and 2K. For the Enriques Calabi-Yau, Gromov-Witten invariants are calculated in genus 0, 1, and 2. In genus 2, the holomorphic anomaly equation is found.
Noncommutative gauge fields (similar to the type that arises in string theory with background B-fields) are constructed for arbitrary nonabelian gauge groups with the help of a map that relates ordinary nonabelian and noncommutative gauge theories (Seiberg-Witten map). As in our previous work we employ Kontsevich's formality and the concept of equivalent star products. As a byproduct we obtain a ``Mini Seiberg-Witten map'' that explicitly relates ordinary abelian and nonabelian gauge fields.
A conjecture of Aganagic and Vafa relates the open Gromov-Witten theory of $X=\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{1}}(-1,-1)$ to the augmentation polynomial of Legendrian contact homology. We describe how to use this conjecture to compute genus zero, one boundary component open Gromov-Witten invariants for Lagrangian submanifolds $L_{K}\subset X$ obtained from the conormal bundles of knots $K\subset S^{3}$. This computation is then performed for two non-toric examples (the figure-eight and three-twist knots). For $(r,s)$ torus knots, the open Gromov-Witten invariants can also be computed using Atiyah-Bot…
We study the degeneration and the gluing of Kuranishi structures in Gromov-Witten theory under a symplectic cut. This leads us to a degeneration axiom and a gluing axiom for open Gromov-Witten invariants. They provide then a route to the construction of virtual fundamental chains via specialization. Comments on the equivalence of the degeneration formula of closed Gromov-Witten invariants by Li-Ruan/Li versus Ionel-Parker are given in the Appendix.
We solve Bershadsky-Cecotti-Ooguri-Vafa (BCOV) holomorphic anomaly equation to determine the higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants ($g \leq 5$) of the derived equivalent Calabi-Yau threefolds, which are of the appropriate codimensions in the Grassmannian Gr(2,7) and the Pfaffian Pf(7).
We derive a closed formula for the generating function of genus two Gromov-Witten invariants of quintic 3-folds and verify the corresponding mirror symmetry conjecture of Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri and Vafa.
We consider the Hamiltonian BRST quantization of a noncommutative non abelian gauge theory. The Seiberg-Witten map of all phase-space variables, including multipliers, ghosts and their momenta, is given in first order in the noncommutative parameter $θ$. We show that there exists a complete consistence between the gauge structures of the original and of the mapped theories, derived in a canonical way, once we appropriately choose the map solutions.
Various equivariant intersection numbers on Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane are computed, some of which are organized into tau-functions of 2-Toda hierarchies. A correspondence between the equivariant intersection on Hilbert schemes and stationary Gromov-Witten theory is established.
In this paper, we proved generating functions of Gromov-Witten cycles of the elliptic orbifold lines with weights (3,3,3), (4,4,2), and (6,3,2) are cycle-valued quasi-modular forms. This is a generalization of Milanov and Ruan's work on cycle-valued level. First we construct a global cohomology field theory (CohFT) for simple elliptic singularities (modulo an extension problem) and prove its modularity. Then, we apply Teleman's reconstruction theorem to prove mirror theorems on cycled-valued level and match it with a CohFT from Gromov-Witten theory of a corresponding orbifold. This solves the e…
We compute the $g=1, n=1$ B-model Gromov-Witten invariant of an elliptic curve E directly from the derived category D(E). More precisely, we carry out the computation of the categorical Gromov-Witten invariant defined by Costello using as target a cyclic $A_\infty$ model of D(E) described by Polishchuk. This is the first non-trivial computation of a positive genus categorical Gromov-Witten invariant, and the result agrees with the prediction of mirror symmetry: it matches the classical (non-categorical) Gromov-Witten invariants of a symplectic 2-torus computed by Dijkgraaf.
The first part of this work constructs positive-genus real Gromov-Witten invariants of real-orientable symplectic manifolds of odd "complex" dimensions; the present part focuses on their properties that are essential for actually working with these invariants. We determine the compatibility of the orientations on the moduli spaces of real maps constructed in the first part with the standard node-identifying immersion of Gromov-Witten theory. We also compare these orientations with alternative ways of orienting the moduli spaces of real maps that are available in special cases. In a sequel, we …
A difference equation is proved for the Gromov-Witten potential of the resolved conifold. Using the Gopakumar-Vafa resummation of the Gromov-Witten invariants of any Calabi-Yau threefold, it is further shown that similar difference equations are satisfied by the part of the resummed potential containing the contribution of the genus zero GV invariants.
We express all equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of the projective line as matrix elements of explicit operators acting in the Fock space. As a consequence, we prove the equivariant theory is governed by the 2-Toda hierarchy of Ueno and Takasaki. This is the second in a sequence of three papers devoted to the Gromov-Witten theory of nonsingular target curves (the first paper of the series is math.AG/0204305).
We compute genus-zero Gromov--Witten invariants of Calabi--Yau complete intersection 3-folds in Grassmannians using supersymmetric localization in A-twisted non-Abelian gauged linear sigma models. We also discuss a Seiberg-like duality interchanging Gr(n,m) and Gr(m-n,m).
The purpose of this note is to share some observations and speculations concerning the asymptotic behavior of Gromov-Witten invariants. They may be indicative of some deep phenomena in symplectic topology that in full generality are outside of the reach of current techniques. On the other hand, many interesting cases can perhaps be treated via combinatorial techniques.
We carry out the explicit computations that are used to write down the integrable hierarchy associated with the quintic Calabi-Yau threefold. We also do the calculations for the geometric structures emerging in the Gromov-Witten theory of the quintic, such as the Frobenius manifold structure and the special Kähler structure.
In this paper we investigate the tau-functions for the stationary sector of Gromov-Witten theory of the complex projective line and its version, relative to one point. In particular, we construct the integral representation for the points of the Sato Grassmannians, Kac-Schwarz operators, and quantum spectral curves. This allows us to derive the matrix models.
