This paper deals with approximate solutions of an optimization problem with interval-valued objective function. Four types of approximate solution concepts of the problem are proposed by considering the partial ordering $LU$ on the set of all closed and bounded intervals. We show that these solutions exist under very weak conditions. Under suitable constraint qualifications, we derive Karush--Kuhn--Tucker necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for convex interval-valued optimization problems.
In this article, the concepts of gH-subgradients and gH-subdifferentials of interval-valued functions are illustrated. Several important characteristics of the gH-subdifferential of a convex interval-valued function, e.g., closeness, boundedness, chain rule, etc. are studied. Alongside, we prove that gH-subdifferential of a gH-differentiable convex interval-valued function only contains gH-gradient of that interval-valued function. It is observed that the gH-directional derivative of a convex interval-valued function in each direction is maximum of all the products of gH-subgradients and the d…
In this article, the concept of $μ-$ monotonic property of interval-valued function in higher dimension is introduced. Expansion of interval-valued function in higher dimension is developed using this property. Generalized Hukuhara differentiability is used to derive the theoretical results. Several examples are provided to justify the theoretical developments.
This article proposes a general gH-gradient efficient-direction method and a W-gH-gradient efficient method for the optimization problems with interval-valued functions. The convergence analysis and the step-wise algorithms of both the methods are presented. It is observed that the W-gH-gradient efficient method converges linearly for a strongly convex interval-valued objective function. To develop the proposed methods and to study their convergence, the idea of strong convexity and sequential criteria for gH-continuity of interval-valued function are illustrated. In the sequel, a new definiti…
In this article, the notion of gH-Clarke derivative for interval-valued functions is proposed. To define the concept of gH-Clarke derivatives, the concepts of limit superior, limit inferior, and sublinear interval-valued functions are studied in the sequel. The upper gH-Clarke derivative of a gH-Lipschitz interval-valued function (IVF) is observed to be a sublinear IVF. It is found that every gH-Lipschitz continuous function is upper gH-Clarke differentiable. For a convex and gH-Lipschitz IVF, it is shown that the upper gH-Clarke derivative coincides with the gH-directional derivative. The ent…
In this study, a \emph{$gH$-subgradient technique} is developed to obtain efficient solutions to the optimization problems with nonsmooth nonlinear convex interval-valued functions. The algorithmic implementation of the developed $gH$-subgradient technique is illustrated. As an application of the proposed \emph{$gH$-subgradient technique}, an $\ell_1$ penalized linear regression problem, known as a \emph{lasso problem}, with interval-valued features is solved.
In this paper, we consider interval-valued vector optimization problems $(IVOP)$ and derive their relationships to interval vector variational inequalities $(IVVI)$ of Minty and Stampacchia type in terms of convexificators and LU-efficient solution of $(IVOP)$ using LU-convexity assumption. Furthermore, we consider weak versions of $(IVVI)$ of Minty and Stampacchia type and find the relationships between weak versions of $(IVVI)$ of Minty and Stampacchia type and weakly LU-efficient solution of $(IVOP)$. The results presented in this paper extend and generalized some existing results in the li…
In this paper, we obtain a version of Ekeland's variational principle for interval-value functions by means of the Dancs-Hegedus-Medvegyev theorem [14]. We also derive two versions of Ekeland's variational principle involving the generalized Hukuhara Gateaux differentiability of interval-valued functions as well as a version of Ekeland's variational principle for interval-valued bifunctions. Finally, we apply these new versions of Ekeland's variational principle to fixed point theorems, to interval-valued optimization problems, to the interval-valued Mountain Pass Theorem, to noncooperative in…
This paper deals with Pareto solutions of a nonsmooth fractional interval-valued multiobjective optimization. We first introduce four types of Pareto solutions of the considered problem by considering the lower-upper interval order relation and then apply some advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation to establish necessary optimality conditions for these solutions. Sufficient conditions for Pareto solutions of such a problem are also provided by means of introducing the concepts of (strictly) generalized convex functions defined in terms of the limiting/Mordukhovi…
In this paper, we attempt to propose Ekeland's variational principle for interval-valued functions (IVFs). To develop the variational principle, we study the concept of sequence of intervals. In the sequel, the idea of gH-semicontinuity for IVFs is explored. A necessary and sufficient condition for an IVF to be gH-continuous in terms of gH-lower and upper semicontinuity is given. Moreover, we prove a characterization for gH-lower semicontinuity by the level sets of the IVF. With the help of this characterization result, we ensure the existence of a minimum for an extended gH-lower semicontinuo…
This article introduces the concept of weak sharp minima (WSM) for convex interval-valued functions (IVFs). To identify a set of WSM of a convex IVF, we provide its primal and dual characterizations. The primal characterization is given in terms of $gH$-directional derivatives. On the other hand, to derive dual characterizations, we propose the notions of the support function of a subset of $I(\mathbb{R})^{n}$ and $gH$-subdifferentiability for convex IVFs. Further, we develop the required $gH$-subdifferential calculus for convex IVFs. Thereafter, by using the proposed $gH$-subdifferential calc…
This paper deals with approximate solutions of a nonsmooth semi-infinite programming with multiple interval-valued objective functions. We first introduce four types of approximate quasi Pareto solutions of the considered problem by considering the lower-upper interval order relation and then apply some advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation to establish necessary optimality conditions for these approximate solutions. Sufficient conditions for approximate quasi Pareto solutions of such a problem are also provided by means of introducing the concepts of approxima…
In this article, we study the notion of gH-Hadamard derivative for interval-valued functions (IVFs) and its applications to interval optimization problems (IOPs). It is shown that the existence of gH-Hadamard derivative implies the existence of gH-Frechet derivative and vise-versa. Further, it is proved that the existence of gH-Hadamard derivative implies the existence of gH-continuity of IVFs. We found that the composition of a Hadamard differentiable real-valued function and a gH-Hadamard differentiable IVF is gHHadamard differentiable. Further, for finite comparable IVF, we prove that the g…
In this article, we study $gH$-subdifferential calculus of convex interval-valued functions (IVFs) and apply it in a nonconvex composite model of interval optimization problems (IOPs). It is found that the $gH$-directional derivative of maximum of finitely many comparable IVFs is the maximum of their $gH$-directional derivative. Proposed concepts of $gH$-subdifferential are observed to be useful to derive Fritz-John-type and KKT-type efficiency conditions for weak efficient solutions of IOPs. Further, we extract a necessary and sufficient condition to characterize the weak efficient solutions …

In this article, we introduce the idea of $gH$-weak subdifferential for interval-valued functions (IVFs) and show how to calculate $gH$-weak subgradients. It is observed that a nonempty $gH$-weak subdifferential set is closed and convex. In characterizing the class of functions for which the $gH$-weak subdifferential set is nonempty, it is identified that this class is the collection of $gH$-lower Lipschitz IVFs. In checking the validity of sum rule of $gH$-weak subdifferential for a pair of IVFs, a counterexample is obtained, which reflects that the sum rule does not hold. However, under a mi…
We are concerned with three types of uncertainties: probabilistic, possibilitistic and interval. By using possibility and necessity measures as an Interval Valued Probability Measure (IVPM), we present IVPM's interval expected values whose possibility distributions are in the form of polynomials. By working with interval expected values of independent uncertainty coefficients in a linear optimization problem together with operations suggested in Lodwick and Jamison (2007), the problem after applying these operations becomes a linear programming problem with constant coefficients. This is achie…
In this article, a new concept of LR-type interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (LR-type IVIFN) has been introduced. The theory has also been enriched by demonstrating diagrammatic representations of LR-type IVIFNs and establishing arithmetic operations among these fuzzy numbers. The total order properties of lexicographic criteria have been used for ranking LR-type IVIFNs. Further, a linear programming problem having both equality as well as inequality type constraints with all the parameters as LR-type IVIFNs and unrestricted decision variables has been formulated. An algorithm to fin…

In this article, we introduce the interval optimization problems (IOPs) on Hadamard manifolds as well as study the relationship between them and the interval variational inequalities. To achieve the theoretical results, we build up some new concepts about $gH$-directional derivative and $gH$-Gâteaux differentiability of interval valued functions and their properties on the Hadamard manifolds. The obtained results pave a way to further study on Riemannian interval optimization problems (RIOPs).
Much of statistics relies upon four key elements: a law of large numbers, a calculus to operationalize stochastic convergence, a central limit theorem, and a framework for constructing local approximations. These elements are well-understood for objects in a vector space (e.g., points or functions); however, much statistical theory does not directly translate to sets because they do not form a vector space. Building on probability theory for random sets, this paper uses variational analysis to develop operational tools for statistics with set-valued functions. These tools are first applied to …
We present a numerical method for generating the state-feedback control policy associated with general undiscounted, constant-setpoint, infinite-horizon, nonlinear optimal control problems with continuous state variables. The method is based on approximate dynamic programming, and is closely related to approximate policy iteration. Existing methods typically terminate based on the convergence of the control policy and either require a discounted problem formulation or demand the cost function to lie in a specific subclass of functions. The presented method extends on existing termination crite…
