Fractionalization is a phenomenon where an elementary excitation partitions into several pieces. This picture explains non-trivial transport through a junction of one-dimensional edge channels defined by topologically distinct quantum Hall states, for example, a hole-conjugate state at Landau-level filling factor $ν$ = 2/3. Here we employ a time-resolved scheme to identify an elementary fractionalization process; injection of charge q from a non-interaction region into an interacting and scattering region of one-dimensional channels results in the formation of a collective excitation with charge $(1-\textit{r})\textit{q}$ by reflecting fractionalized charge $\textit{rq}$. The fractionalization factors, $\textit{r}$ = 0.34$\pm$0.03 for $ν$ = 2/3 and $\textit{r}$ = 0.49$\pm$0.03 for $ν$ = 2, are consistent with the quantized values of 1/3 and 1/2, respectively, which are expected in the disorder dominated regime. The scheme can be used for generating and transporting fractionalized charges with a well-defined time course along a well-defined path.
Because of the long Fermi wavelength of itinerant electrons, the quantum limit of elemental bismuth (unlike most metals) can be attained with a moderate magnetic field. The quantized orbits of electrons shrink with increasing magnetic field. Beyond the quantum limit, the circumference of these orbits becomes shorter than the Fermi wavelength. We studied transport coefficients of a single crystal of bismuth up to 33 tesla, which is deep in this ultraquantum limit. The Nernst coefficient presents three unexpected maxima that are concomitant with quasi-plateaus in the Hall coefficient. The result…
An algorithm is introduced for predicting quantized resistances in graphene p-n junction devices that utilize more than a single entry and exit point for electron flow. Depending on the configuration of an arbitrary number of terminals, electrical measurements yield fractional multiples of the typical quantized Hall resistance at the $ν=2$ plateau $R_H \approx 12906 Ω$ and take the form: $\frac{a}{b}R_H$. This theoretical formulation is independent of material, and applications to other material systems that exhibit quantum Hall behaviors are to be expected. Furthermore, this formulation is su…
An odd number of gapless Dirac fermions is guaranteed to exist at a surface of a strong topological insulator. We show that in a thin-film geometry and under external bias, electron-hole pairs that reside in these surface states can condense to form a coherent exciton condensate, similar in general terms to the exciton condensate recently argued to exist in a biased graphene bilayer, but with different topological properties. Such a `topological' exciton condensate (TEC) exhibits a host of unusual properties; the most interesting among them is the fractional charge +-e/2 carried by a singly qu…
We have demonstrated the millimeter-scale fabrication of monolayer epitaxial graphene $p-n$ junction devices using simple ultraviolet photolithography, thereby significantly reducing device processing time compared to that of electron beam lithography typically used for obtaining sharp junctions. This work presents measurements yielding nonconventional, fractional multiples of the typical quantized Hall resistance at $ν=2$ ($R_H\approx 12906 Ω$) that take the form: $\frac{a}{b}R_H$. Here, $a$ and $b$ have been observed to take on values such 1, 2, 3, and 5 to form various coefficients of $R_H$…
We study the electronic transport of heterojunctions made of chiral topological superconductors (TSCs) with $N$ chiral Majorana fermion modes and quantum Hall insulators (QHIs) with integer Chern number $C$. In the weak disorder regime, we show the two-terminal conductance $σ_{12}$ of a QHI-TSC-QHI junction is generically non-quantized, but obeys a certain distribution determined by $C$ and $N$, which is induced by random SO($N$) rotations of chiral Majorana fermion mode basis on the TSC edges. Oppositely, in the strong disorder regime, $σ_{12}$ tends to be a quantized value. We conclude with …
Electrical transport in three dimensional topological insulators(TIs) occurs through spin-momentum locked topological surface states that enclose an insulating bulk. In the presence of a magnetic field, surface states get quantized into Landau levels giving rise to chiral edge states that are naturally spin-polarized due to spin momentum locking. It has been proposed that p-n junctions of TIs in the quantum Hall regime can manifest unique spin dependent effects, apart from forming basic building blocks for highly functional spintronic devices. Here, for the first time we study electrostaticall…
The quantum Hall and longitudinal resistances in multi-terminal ferromagnetic graphene p-n junctions under a perpendicular magnetic field are investigated. In the Hall measurements, the transverse contacts are assumed to be located at p-n interface to avoid the mixing of edge states at the interface and the resulting quantized resistances are then topologically protected. According to the charge carrier type, the resistances in four-terminal p-n junction can be naturally divided into nine different regimes. The symmetric Hall and longitudinal resistances are observed, with lots of new robust q…
Quantization of the magneto-thermoelectric transport is studied when an external d.c. magnetic field is applied to the C/N-knot formed as crossing between a narrow stripe of conducting atomic monolayer C on the one hand and metal stripe N on the other hand. The temperature gradient in C is created by injecting the non-equilibrium electrons, holes and phonons from the heater H thereby directing them toward the C/N-knot. A non-linear coupling between electron states of the C/N-knot counter electrodes causes splitting of the heat flow into several fractions owing to the Lorentz force acting in th…
Intrinsic magnetic topological insulator ${\mathrm{MnBi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{4}$ is believed to be an axion insulator in its antiferromagnetic ground state. However, direct identification of axion insulators remains experimentally elusive because the observed vanishing Hall resistance, while indicating the onset of the axion field, is inadequate to distinguish the system from a trivial normal insulator. Using numerical Green's functions, we theoretically demonstrate the quantized magnetoelectric current in a tunnel junction of atomically thin ${\mathrm{MnBi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{4}$ sandwiched be…
We study the complete tunneling spectroscopy of a normal metal/$p$-wave superconductor junction ($N-pS$) and normal metal/heterostructure superconductor junction ($N-hS$) by Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) method. We find that, for $p$-wave superconductor with non-trivial topology, there exists a quantized zero-bias conductance peak stably, for heterostructure superconductor with non-trivial topology, the emerging zero-bias conductance peak is non-quantized and usually has a considerable gap to the quantized value. Furthermore, it is sensitive to parameters, especially to spin-orbit coupling an…
Measurements of fractional multiples of the ν=2 plateau quantized Hall resistance (R_H {\approx} 12906 Ω) were enabled by the utilization of multiple current terminals on millimetre-scale graphene p-n junction devices fabricated with interfaces along both lateral directions. These quantum Hall resistance checkerboard devices have been demonstrated to match quantized resistance outputs numerically calculated with the LTspice circuit simulator. From the devices' functionality, more complex embodiments of the quantum Hall resistance checkerboard were simulated to highlight the parameter space wit…
Recent experimental work on locally gated graphene layers resulting in p-n junctions have revealed quantum Hall effect in their transport behavior. We explain the observed conductance quantization which is fractional in the bipolar regime and integer in the unipolar regime in terms of quantum Hall edge modes propagating along and across the p-n interface. In the bipolar regime the electron and hole modes can mix at the p-n boundary, leading to current partition and quantized shot noise plateaus similar to those of conductance, while in the unipolar regime transport is noiseless. These quantum …
We consider a chain of Josephson-junction rhombi (proposed originally by Doucot and Vidal) in quantum regime. In a regular chain with no disorder in the maximally frustrated case when magnetic flux through each rhombi Φ_r is equal to one half of superconductive flux quantum Φ_0, Josephson current is due to correlated transport of pairs of Cooper pairs, i.e. charge is quantized in units of $4e$. Sufficiently strong deviation δΦ=|Φ_r-Φ_0/2| > δΦ^c from the maximally frustrated point brings the system back to usual $2e$-quantized supercurrent. For a regular chain δΦ^c was calculated by us previou…
We study the evolution of averaged transconductances in three-terminal Josephson junctions when the superconducting leads are led throughout a topological phase transition from an $s$-wave to a $p$-wave (Majorana) phase by an in-plane magnetic field $B_x$. We provide a complete description of this transition as a function of $B_x$ and a magnetic flux $Φ$ threading the junction. For that we use a spinful model within a formalism that allows to treat on equal footing the contribution to the transconductance from both the Andreev subgap levels and the continuum spectrum. We unveil a fractionaliza…
We consider a honeycomb network built of quantum wires, with each node of the network having a Y-junction of three wires with a ring through which flux can be inserted. The junctions are the basic circuit elements for the network, and they are characterized by 3 x 3 conductance tensors. The low energy stable fixed point tensor conductances result from quantum effects, and are determined by the strength of the interactions in each wire and the magnetic flux through the ring. We consider the limit where there is decoherence in the wires between any two nodes, and study the array as a network of …

Advancing a microscopic framework that rigorously unveils the underlying topological hallmarks of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) fluids is a prerequisite for making progress in the classification of strongly-coupled topological matter. Here we advance a second-quantization framework that helps reveal an exact fusion mechanism for particle fractionalization in FQH fluids, and uncover the fundamental structure behind the condensation of non-local operators characterizing topological order in the lowest-Landau-level (LLL). We show the first exact analytic computation of the quasielectron Berry con…

Just a few of the promising applications of graphene Corbino pnJ devices include two-dimensional Dirac fermion microscopes, custom programmable quantized resistors, and mesoscopic valley filters. In some cases, device scalability is crucial, as seen in fields like resistance metrology, where graphene devices are required to accommodate currents of the order 100 μA to be compatible with existing infrastructure. However, fabrication of these devices still poses many difficulties. In this work, unusual quantized resistances are observed in epitaxial graphene Corbino p-n junction devices held at t…
One-dimensional (1D) topologically protected states are usually formed at the interface between two-dimensional (2D) materials with different topological invariants. Therefore, 1D chiral interface channels (CICs) can be created at the boundary of two quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators with different Chern numbers. Such a QAH junction can function as a chiral edge current distributer at zero magnetic field, but its realization remains challenging. Here, by employing an in-situ mechanical mask, we use molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to synthesize QAH insulator junctions, in which two QAH insul…
We present an experimental and theoretical study of the magnetic field dependence of the mode frequency of thermally excited spin waves in rectangular shaped nanopillars of lateral sizes 60x100, 75x150, and 105x190 nm2, patterned from MgO-based magnetic tunnel junctions. The spin wave frequencies were measured using spectrally resolved electrical noise measurements. In all spectra, several independent quantized spin wave modes have been observed and could be identified as eigenexcitations of the free layer and of the synthetic antiferromagnet of the junction. Using a theoretical approach based…
The model of interacting fermion systems in one dimension known as Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) provides a simple and exactly solvable theoretical framework, predicting various intriguing physical properties. Evidence of TLL has been observed as power-law behavior in the electronic transport and momentum-resolved spectroscopy on various types of one-dimensional (1D) conductors. However, these measurements, which rely on dc transport involving tunneling processes, cannot identify the eigenmodes of the TLL, i.e., collective excitations characterized by non-trivial effective charge e* and char…
By studying the time-dependent axial and radial growth of InSb nanowires, we map the conditions for the synthesis of single-crystalline InSb nanocrosses by molecular beam epitaxy. Low-temperature electrical measurements of InSb nanocross devices with local gate control on individual terminals exhibit quantized conductance and are used to probe the spatial distribution of the conducting channels. Tuning to a situation where the nanocross junction is connected by few-channel quantum point contacts in the connecting nanowire terminals, we show that transport through the junction is ballistic exce…
Electrical conductance measurements have limited scope in identifying Andreev edge states (AESs), which form the basis for realizing various topological excitations in quantum Hall (QH) - superconductor (SC) junctions. To unambiguously detect AESs, we measure shot noise along with electrical conductance in a graphene based QH-SC junction at integer filling nu=2. Remarkably, we find that the Fano factor of shot noise approaches half when the bias energy is less than the superconducting gap, whereas it is close to zero above the superconducting gap. This is striking, given that, at the same time…
The use of multiple current terminals on millimeter-scale graphene $p-n$ junction devices fabricated with Corbino geometries, or quantum Hall resistance dartboards, have enabled the measurement of several fractional multiples of the quantized Hall resistance at the $ν=2$ plateau ($R_H\approx 12906 Ω$). Experimentally obtained values agreed with corresponding numerical simulations performed with the LTspice circuit simulator. More complicated designs of the quantum Hall resistance dartboard were simulated to establish the potential parameter space within which these Corbino-type devices could o…
We investigate charge transport of pn and npn junctions made from silicene, Si analogue of graphene. The conductance shows the distinct gate-voltage dependences peculiar to the topological and non-topological phases, where the topological phase transition is caused by external electric field. Namely, the conductance is suppressed in the np regime when the both sides are topological, while in the nn regime when one side is topological and the other side is non-topological. Furthermore, we find that the conductance is almost quantized to be 0, 1 and 2. Our findings will open a new way to nanoele…
The Hall resistance of a homogeneous electron system is well known to be anti-symmetric with respect to the magnetic field and the sign of charge carriers. We have observed that such symmetries no longer hold in planar hybrid structures consisting of partly single layer graphene (SLG) and partly bilayer graphene (BLG) in the quantum Hall (QH) regime. In particular, the Hall resistance (R12xy) across the SLG and BLG interface is observed to exhibit quantized plateaus that switch between those characteristic of SLG QH states and BLG QH states when either the sign of the charge carriers (controll…
Superconducting circuits incorporating Josephson tunnel junctions are widely used for fundamental research as well as for applications in fields such as quantum information and magnetometry. The quantum coherent nature of Josephson junctions makes them especially suitable for metrology applications. Josephson junctions suffice to form two sides of the quantum metrology triangle, relating frequency to either voltage or current, but not its base, which directly links voltage to current. We propose a five Josephson tunnel junction circuit in which simultaneous pumping of flux and charge results i…
We consider a chain of Josepshon-junction rhombi (proposed originally in \cite{Doucot}) in quantum regime, and in the realistic case when charging effects are determined by junction capacitances. In the maximally frustrated case when magnetic flux through each rhombi $Φ_r$ is equal to one half of superconductive flux quantum $Φ_0$, Josepshon current is due to correlated transport of {\em pairs of Cooper pairs}, i.e. charge is quantized in units of $4e$. Sufficiently strong deviation $ δΦ\equiv |Φ_r-Φ_0/2| > δΦ^c$ from the maximally frustrated point brings the system back to usual $2e$-quantize…
We present the theoretical description for a class of experimental setups that measure quantum Hall coefficients in ferromagnet-topological insulator-ferromagnet (FM-TI-FM) junctions. We predict that varying the magnetization direction in ferromagnets, one can change the induced Hall voltage and transverse temperature gradient from the maximal values, corresponding to the quantized Hall coefficients, down to their complete suppression to zero. We provide detailed analysis of thermal and electrical Hall resistances as functions of the magnetization directions in ferromagnets, the spin-scatterin…
Topological superconductivity supports exotic Majorana bound states (MBS) which are chargeless zero-energy emergent quasiparticles. With their non-Abelian exchange statistics and fractionalization of a single electron stored nonlocally as a spatially separated MBS, they are particularly suitable for implementing fault-tolerant topological quantum computing. While the main efforts to realize MBS have focused on one-dimensional systems, the onset of topological superconductivity requires delicate parameter tuning and geometric constraints pose significant challenges for their control and demonst…
We have studied quantized transport in HgTe wells with inverted band structure corresponding to the two-dimensional topological insulator phase (2D TI) with locally-controlled density allowing n-p-n and n-2D TI-n junctions. The resistance reveals the fractional plateau $2h/e^{2}$ in n-p-n regime in the presence of the strong perpendicular magnetic field. We found that in n-2D TI-n regime the plateaux in resistance in not universal and results from the edge state equilibration at the interface between chiral and helical edge modes. We provided the simple model describing the resistance quantiza…
We propose to synchronize Bloch oscillations in a double phase-slip junction by modulating the gate voltage rather than the bias voltage. We show this is advantageous and the relatively small a.c. modulation of the gate voltage gives rise to the pronounced plateaux of quantized current of the width of the order of Coulomb blockade threshold. We theoretically investigate the setup distinguishing three regimes of the strong, weak, and intermediate coupling defined by the ratio of the gate capacitance $C$ and the effective capacitance of the phase-slip junctions. An important feature of the inter…
We report an observation of conductance fuctuations (CFs) in the bipolar regime of quantum hall (QH) plateaus in graphene (p-n-p/n-p-n) devices. The CFs in the bipolar regime are shown to decrease with increasing bias and temperature. At high temperature (above 7 K) the CFs vanishes completely and the flat quantized plateaus are recovered in the bipolar regime. The values of QH plateaus are in theoretical agreement based on full equilibration of chiral channels at the p-n junction. The amplitude of CFs for different filling factors follows a trend predicted by the random matrix theory. Althoug…
Recently we predicted that the Andreev bound state spectrum of 4-terminal Josephson junctions may possess topologically protected zero-energy Weyl singularities, which manifest themselves in a quantized transconductance in units of $4e^2/h$ when two of the terminals are voltage biased [R.-P. Riwar et al., Nature Commun. 7, 11167 (2016)]. Here, using the Landauer-Büttiker scattering theory, we compute numerically the currents flowing through such a structure in order to assess the conditions for observing this effect. We show that the voltage below which the transconductance becomes quantized i…
Knowledge of the topology of the electronic ground state of materials has led to deep insights to novel phenomena such as the integer quantum Hall effect and fermion-number fractionalization, as well as other properties of matter. Joining two insulators of different topological classes produces fascinating boundary states in the band gap. Another exciting recent development is the bottom-up synthesis (from molecular precursors) of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with atomic precision control of their edge and width. Here we connect these two fields, and show for the first time that semiconducting …
This paper presents a generalization of the charge-based model for ultrathin junctionless double-gate (JLDG) field-effect transistors (FETs) by including quantum electron density. The analytical derivation relies on a first-order correction to the infinite quantum well. When restricting the analysis to the first and second quantized states, the free carrier charge distribution and the current in an ultrathin body JLDG FETs are in agreement with numerical TCAD simulations in all the regions of operation, i.e., from deep depletion to accumulation and from linear to saturation.
Understanding the transport characteristics at the atomic limit is the prerequisite for futuristic nano-electronic applications. Among various experimental procedures, mechanically controllable break junction (MCBJ) is one of the well adopted experimental technique to study and control the atomic or molecular scale devices. Here, we present the details of the development of a piezo controlled table top MCBJ set up, working at ambient condition, along with necessary data acquisition technique and analysis of the data. We performed conductance experiment on a macroscopic gold wire, which exhibit…
Perfect crossed Andreev reflection (CAR) is striking for high-efficiency Cooper pair splitting which bears promising applications in quantum communication. Recent experimental advances have disclosed the way to explore CAR in Dirac fermion systems under ultra-strong magnetic fields. We develop a scattering approach to study quantum Hall-superconductor-quantum Hall (QH-S-QH) junctions formed by a two-dimensional (2D) time-reversal symmetric Dirac semimetal. We propose two different setups of the hybrid junction in the quantum limit where only zeroth Landau levels are involved in transport to ex…
We report on low-temperature transport study of a single layer graphene (SLG)-twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG) junction device. The SLG-tBLG junction in the device is grown by chemical vapor deposition and the device is fabricated in a Hall-bar configuration on Si/SiO$_2$ substrate. The longitudinal resistances across the SLG-tBLG junction (cross-junction resistances) on the two sides of the Hall bar and the Hall resistances of SLG and tBLG in the device are measured. In the quantum Hall regime, the measurements show that the measured cross-junction resistances exhibit a series of new quantized…
Stochastic switching-current distribution in a graphene-based Josephson junction exhibits a crossover from the classical to quantum regime, revealing the macroscopic quantum tunneling (MQT) of a Josephson phase particle at low temperatures. Microwave spectroscopy measurements indicate a multi-photon absorption process occurring via discrete energy levels in washboard potential well. The crossover temperature for MQT and the quantized level spacing are controlled with the gate voltage, implying its potential application to gate-tunable superconducting quantum bits.
The choice of impedance used to shunt a Josephson junction determines if the charge transferred through the circuit is quantized: a capacitive shunt renders the charge discrete, whereas an inductive shunt leads to continuous charge. This discrepancy leads to a paradox in the limit of large inductances L. We show that while the energy spectra of the capacitively and inductively shunted junction are vastly different, their high-frequency responses become identical for large L. Inductive shunting thus opens the possibility to observe charging effects unimpeded by charge noise.
Superconductor/semiconductor-nanowire hybrid structures can serve as versatile building blocks to realize Majorana circuits or superconducting qubits based on quantized levels such as Andreev qubits. For all these applications it is essential that the superconductor-semiconductor interface is as clean as possible. Furthermore, the shape and dimensions of the superconducting electrodes needs to be precisely controlled. We fabricated self-defined InAs/Al core/shell nanowire junctions by a fully in-situ approach, which meet all these criteria. Transmission electron microscopy measurements confirm…
A non-planar geometry for the quantum Hall (QH) effect is studied, whereby two quantum Hall (QH) systems are joined at a sharp right angle. When both facets are at equal filling factor nu the junction hosts a channel with non-quantized conductance, dependent on nu. The state is metallic at nu = 1/3, with conductance along the junction increasing as the temperature T drops. At nu = 1, 2 it is strongly insulating, and at nu = 3, 4 shows only weak T dependence. Upon applying a dc voltage bias along the junction, the differential conductance again shows three different behaviors. Hartree calculati…
We report the fabrication and measurement of top gated epitaxial graphene p-n junctions where exfoliated hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is used as the gate dielectric. The four-terminal longitudinal resistance across a single junction is well quantized at the von Klitzing constant R_K with a relative uncertainty of 10-7. After the exploration of numerous parameter spaces, we summarize the conditions upon which these devices could function as potential resistance standards. Furthermore, we offer designs of programmable electrical resistance standards over six orders of magnitude by using extern…
We exploit the analogy with the quantum Hall (QH) effect for electrons to study the possible atomic QH states of a rapidly-rotating Bose-Einstein condensate. Actually, there is a nearly perfect map of the present problem in the QH regime to the QH physics for electrons. The profound map enables one to give a physically appealing definitions of the filling fraction and the "atomic Hall conductance" that is quantized for atomic Laughlin states. This quantization might imply an exotic fractionalization of atomic mass. We also briefly discuss an effective Chern-Simons theory for describing the ato…
Recently, generalizations of quantum Hall effects (QHE) have been made from 2D to 4D and 8D by considering their mathematical frameworks within complex (C), quaternion (H) and octonion (O) compact (gauge) Lie algebra domains. Just as QHE in two-dimensional electron gases can be understood in terms of Chern number topological invariants that belong to the first Chern class, QHE in 4D and 8D can be understood in terms of Chern number topological invariants that belong to the 2nd and 4th Chern classes. It has been shown that 2D QHE phenomena are related to topologically-ordered ground states of J…
We study the effect of local modulation of charge density and carrier type in graphene field effect transistors using a double top gate geometry. The two top gates lead to the formation of multiple \emph{p-n} junctions. Electron transport measurements at low temperature and in the presence of magnetic field show various integer and fractionally quantized conductance plateaus. We explain these results based on the mixing of the edge channels and find that inhomogeneity plays an important role in defining the exact quantization of these plateaus, an issue critical for the metrology applications …
We theoretically investigate the emergence of Jackiw-Rebbi zero modes and their conductance signature in non-uniform topological insulator nano-wires. We modelled the non-uniform nano-wires as junction between two cylindrical nano-wires with different radius. In the limit of wire length being much larger than its radius, the surface state of the nanowire splits into one dimensional Dirac modes propagating along the axis of the cylinder owing to radial confinement. The sign of the mass gap in each of these Dirac mode is decided by angular momentum quantum number corresponding to the rotational …
Recent experiments on Josephson junction arrays (JJAs) in microwave cavities have opened up a new avenue for investigating the properties of these devices while minimising the amount of external noise coming from the measurement apparatus itself. These experiments have already shown promise for probing many-body quantum effects in JJAs. In this work, we develop a general theoretical description of such experiments by deriving a quantum phase model for planar JJAs containing quantized vortices. The dynamical susceptibility of this model is calculated for some simple circuits, and signatures of …
We construct a generalization of the Chalker-Coddington network model to the case of fractional quantum Hall effect, which describes the tunneling between multiple chiral edges. We derive exact local and global duality symmetries of this model, and show that its infrared properties are identical to those of disordered planar Josephson junction array (JJA) in a weak magnetic field, which implies the same universality class. The zero frequency Hall resistance of the system, which was expressed through exact correlators of the tunneling fields, is shown to be quantized both in the quantum Hall li…
The AC Josephson effect manifests itself in the form of "Shapiro steps" of quantized voltage in Josephson junctions subject to RF radiation. This effect presents an early example of a driven-dissipative quantum phenomenon and is presently utilized in primary voltage standards. Shapiro steps have also become one of the standard tools to probe junctions made in a variety of novel materials. Here, we study Shapiro steps in a widely tunable graphene-based Josephson junction. We investigate the variety of patterns that can be obtained in this well-understood system depending on the carrier density,…

We investigate mesoscopic Josephson junction arrays created by patterning superconducting disks on monolayer graphene, concentrating on the high-$T/T_c$ regime of these devices and the phenomena which contribute to the superconducting glass state in diffusive arrays. We observe features in the magnetoconductance at rational fractions of flux quanta per array unit cell, which we attribute to the formation of flux-quantized vortices. The applied fields at which the features occur are well described by Ginzburg-Landau simulations that take into account the number of unit cells in the array. We fi…
Owing to a linear and gapless band structure and a tunability of the charge carrier type, graphene offers a unique system to investigate transport of Dirac Fermions at p-n junctions (PNJs). In a magnetic field, combination of quantum Hall physics and the characteristic transport across PNJs leads to a fractionally quantized conductance associated with the mixing of electron-like and hole-like modes and their subsequent partitioning. The mixing and partitioning suggest that a PNJ could be used as an electronic beam-splitter. Here we report the shot noise study of the mode mixing process and dem…
