We study the Laplacian spectrum of token graphs, also called symmetric powers of graphs. The $k$-token graph $F_k(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the graph whose vertices are the $k$-subsets of vertices from $G$, two of which being adjacent whenever their symmetric difference is a pair of adjacent vertices in $G$. In this paper, we give a relationship between the Laplacian spectra of any two token graphs of a given graph. In particular, we show that, for any integers $h$ and $k$ such that $1\le h\le k\le \frac{n}{2}$, the Laplacian spectrum of $F_h(G)$ is contained in the Laplacian spectrum of $F_k(G)$. We also show that the double odd graphs and doubled Johnson graphs can be obtained as token graphs of the complete graph $K_n$ and the star $S_{n}=K_{1,n-1}$, respectively. Besides, we obtain a relationship between the spectra of the $k$-token graph of $G$ and the $k$-token graph of its complement $\overline{G}$. This generalizes a well-known property for Laplacian eigenvalues of graphs to token graphs. Finally, the double odd graphs and doubled Johnson graphs provide two infinite families, together with some others, in which the algebraic connectivities of the original graph and its token graph coincide. Moreover, we conjecture that this is the case for any graph $G$ and its token graph.

In this paper, we determine the maximal Laplacian and signless Laplacian spectral radii for graphs with fixed number of vertices and domination number, and characterize the extremal graphs respectively.
Let G be a simple undirected connected graph. In this paper, new upper bounds on the distance Laplacian spectral radius of G are obtained. Moreover, new lower and upper bounds for the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of G are derived. Some of the above mentioned bounds are sharp and the graphs attaining the corresponding bound are characterized. Several illustrative examples are included.
The signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph is the largest eigenvalue of its signless Laplacian. In this paper, we prove that the graph $K_{2}\nabla P_{n-2}$ has the maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius among all planar graphs of order $n\geq 456$.
M. Aouchiche and P. Hansen proposed the distance Laplacian and the distance signless Laplacian of a connected graph [Two Laplacians for the distance matrix of a graph, LAA 439 (2013) 21{33]. In this paper, we obtain three theorems on the sharp upper bounds of the spectral radius of a nonnegative matrix, then apply these theorems to signless Laplacian matrices and the distance signless Laplacian matrices to obtain some sharp bounds on the spectral radius, respectively. We also proposed a known result about the sharp bound of the signless Laplacian spectral radius has a defect.
In this paper, we present a spectral sufficient condition for a graph to be Hamilton-connected in terms of signless Laplacian spectral radius with large minimum degree.
For a connected graph $G$, the distance Laplacian spectral radius of $G$ is the spectral radius of its distance Laplacian matrix $\mathcal{L}(G)$ defined as $\mathcal{L}(G)=Tr(G)-D(G)$, where $Tr(G)$ is a diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions of $G$ and $D(G)$ is the distance matrix of $G$. In this paper, we determine the unique graphs with maximum distance Laplacian spectral radius among unicyclic graphs.
In this paper, we present some spectral sufficient conditions for a graph to be Hamilton-connected in terms of the spectral radius or signless Laplacian spectral radius of the graph. Our results improve some previous work.
We obtain new bounds for the Laplacian spectral radius of a signed graph. Most of these new bounds have a dependence on edge sign, unlike previously known bounds, which only depend on the underlying structure of the graph. We then use some of these bounds to obtain new bounds for the Laplacian and signless Laplacian spectral radius of an unsigned graph by signing the edges all positive and all negative, respectively.
Let $G$ be a simple connected undirected graph. The Laplacian spectral ratio of $G$, denoted by $R_L(G)$, is defined as the quotient between the largest and second smallest Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$, which is closely related to the structural parameters of a graph (or network), such as diameter, $t$-tough, perfect matching, average density of cuts, and synchronizability, etc. In this paper, we obtain some bounds of the Laplacian spectral ratio, which improves the known results. In addition, we give counter-examples on the upper bound of the Laplacian spectral ratio conjecture of trees, and …
A $k$-cyclic graph is a connected graph of order $n$ and size $n+k-1$. In this paper, we determine the maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius and the corresponding extremal graph among all $C_{4}$-free $k$-cyclic graphs of order $n$. Furthermore, we determine the first three unicyclic, and bicyclic, $C_{4}$-free graphs whose spectral radius of the signless Laplacian is maximal. Similar results are obtained for the (combinatorial) Laplacian.
In this paper, we compute normalized Laplacian spectra of central graph of a regular graph, central vertex join and central edge join of two regular graphs. Also, we determine their Kemeny's constant and degree Kirchhoff index.
In this paper, first, we establish a sufficient condition for a bipartite graph to be Hamilton-connected. Furthermore, we also give two sufficient conditions on distance signless Laplacian spectral radius for a graph to be Hamilton-connected and traceable from every vertex, respectively. Last, we obtain a sufficient condition for a graph to be Hamiltonian in terms of the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G^{C}$.
In this paper, we present a sharp upper and lower bounds for the signless Laplacian spectral radius of graphs in terms of clique number. Moreover, the extremal graphs which attain the upper and lower bounds are characterized. In addition, these results disprove the two conjectures on the signless Laplacian spectral radius in [P. Hansen and C. Lucas, Bounds and conjectures for the signless Laplacian index of graphs, Linear Algebra Appl., 432(2010) 3319-3336].
In this paper we consider the following problem: Over the class of all simple connected unicyclic graphs on $n$ vertices with girth $g$ ($n,g$ being fixed), which graph minimizes the Laplacian spectral radius? We prove that the graph $U_{n,g}$ (defined in Section 1) uniquely minimizes the Laplacian spectral radius for $n\geq 2g-1$ when $g$ is even and for $n\geq 3g-1$ when $g$ is odd.
The Laplacian energy of a graph is the sum of the distances of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of the graph to the graph's average degree. The maximum Laplacian energy over all graphs on $n$ nodes and $m$ edges is conjectured to be attained for threshold graphs. We prove the conjecture to hold for graphs with the property that for each $k$ there is a threshold graph on the same number of nodes and edges whose sum of the $k$ largest Laplacian eigenvalues exceeds that of the $k$ largest Laplacian eigenvalues of the graph. We call such graphs spectrally threshold dominated. These graphs i…
In this paper, we investigate (signless) Laplacian spectral characterization of graphs with star components. Also, we prove that the join graph ${\small K_{n-α}-e\vee αK_{1}}$ is $DQS$ for $n-α>3$ and $α\neq3$, and for $α=3$, we show that its only $Q$-cospectral mate is $\bar{K_{1,3}\cup K_{2}\cup (n-6)K_{1}}$.
In this article, various aspects of Laplacian spectra of power graphs of finite cyclic, dicyclic and finite $p$-groups are studied. Algebraic connectivity of power graphs of the above groups are considered and determined completely for that of finite $p$-groups. Further, the multiplicity of Laplacian spectral radius of power graphs of the above groups are studied and determined completely for that of dicyclic and finite $p$-groups. The equality of the vertex connectivity and the algebraic connectivity is characterized for power graphs of all of the above groups. Orders of dicyclic groups, for …
Let G be a graph and let Δ,δbe the maximum and minimum degrees of G respectively, where Δ/δ<c<\sqrt{2} and c is a constant. In this paper we establish a sufficient spectral condition for the graph G to be Hamiltonian, that is, the nontrivial eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian of G are sufficiently close to 1.
Let $Z(G)$ be the centre of a finite non-abelian group $G.$ The non-commuting graph of $G$ is a simple undirected graph with vertex set $G\setminus Z(G),$ and two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if and only if $uv\ne vu.$ In this paper, we investigate the distance, distance (signless) Laplacian spectra of non-commuting graphs of some classes of finite non-abelian groups, and obtain some conditions on a group so that the non-commuting graph is distance, distance (signless) Laplacian integral.
Suppose that the vertex set of a connected graph $G$ is $V(G)=\{v_1,\cdots,v_n\}$. Then we denote by $Tr_{G}(v_i)$ the sum of distances between $v_i$ and all other vertices of $G$. Let $Tr(G)$ be the $n\times n$ diagonal matrix with its $(i,i)$-entry equal to $Tr_{G}(v_{i})$ and $D(G)$ be the distance matrix of $G$. Then $Q_{D}(G)=Tr(G)+D(G)$ is the distance signless Laplacian matrix of $G$. The largest eigenvalues of $Q_D(G)$ is called distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G$. In this paper we give some graft transformations on distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of the grap…
Let $Q(G)=D(G)+A(G)$ be the signless Laplacian matrix of a simple graph of order $n$, where $D(G)$ and $A(G)$ are the degree diagonal matrix and the adjacency matrix of $G$, respectively. In this paper, we present a sharp upper bound for the signless spectral radius of $G$ without any tree and characterize all extremal graphs which attain the upper bound, which may be regarded as a spectral extremal version for the famous Erdős-Sós conjecture.
The spectral excess theorem states that, in a regular graph G, the average excess, which is the mean of the numbers of vertices at maximum distance from a vertex, is bounded above by the spectral excess (a number that is computed by using the adjacency spectrum of G), and G is distance-regular if and only if equality holds. In this note we prove the corresponding result by using the Laplacian spectrum without requiring regularity of G.
In this paper, we establish a tight sufficient condition for the Hamiltonicity of graphs with large minimum degree in terms of the signless Laplacian spectral radius and characterize all extremal graphs. Moreover, we prove a similar result for balanced bipartite graphs. Additionally, we construct infinitely many graphs to show that results proved in this paper give new strength for one to determine the Hamiltonicity of graphs.
A {\it fractional matching} of a graph $G$ is a function $f$ giving each edge a number in $[0,1]$ so that $\sum_{e\in Γ(v)}f(e)\leq 1$ for each $v\in V(G)$, where $Γ(v)$ is the set of edges incident to $v$. The {\it fractional matching number} of $G$, written $α'_{*}(G)$, is the maximum of $\sum_{e\in E(G)}f(e)$ over all fractional matchings $f$. In this paper, we propose the relations between the fractional matching number and the signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph. As applications, we also give sufficient spectral conditions for existence of a fractional perfect matching in a grap…
A connected graph $G$ is a cactus if any two of its cycles have at most one common vertex. Let $\ell_n^m$ be the set of cacti on $n$ vertices with matching number $m.$ S.C. Li and M.J. Zhang determined the unique graph with the maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius among all cacti in $\ell_n^m$ with $n=2m$. In this paper, we characterize the case $n\geq 2m+1$. This confirms the conjecture of Li and Zhang(S.C. Li, M.J. Zhang, On the signless Laplacian index of cacti with a given number of pendant vetices, Linear Algebra Appl. 436, 2012, 4400--4411). Further, we characterize the unique grap…
Let $S_{1}(m, d, k)$ be the $k$-uniform supertree obtained from a loose path $P:v_{1}, e_{1}, v_{2}, \ldots,v_{d}, e_{d}, v_{d+1}$ with length $d$ by attaching $m-d$ edges at vertex $v_{\lfloor\frac{d}{2}\rfloor+1}.$ Let $\mathbb{S}(m,d,k)$ be the set of $k$-uniform supertrees with $m$ edges and diameter $d$ and $q(G)$ be the signless Laplacian spectral radius of a $k$-uniform hypergraph $G$. In this paper, we mainly determine $S_{1}(m,d,k)$ with the largest signless Laplacian spectral radius among all supertrees in $\mathbb{S}(m,d,k)$ for $3\leq d\leq m-1$. Furthermore, we determine the uniqu…
For simple graphs $G$, $G_1$ and $G_2$, we denote their double corona based on $R$-graph by $G^{(R)}\otimes{\{G_1,G_2\}}$. This paper determines the normalized Laplacian spectrum of $G^{(R)}\otimes{\{G_1,G_2\}}$ in terms of these of $G$, $G_1$ and $G_2$ whenever $G$, $G_1$ and $G_2$ are regular. The obtained result reduces to the normalized Laplacian spectra of the $R$-vertex corona $G^{(R)}\odot{G_1}$ and $R$-edge corona $G^{(R)}\circleddash{G_2}$ by choosing $G_2$ or $G_1$ as a null-graph, respectively. Finally, applying the results of the paper, we construct infinitely many pairs of normali…
Many variants of join operations of graphs have been introduced and their spectral properties have been studied extensively by many researchers. This paper mainly focuses on the Laplacian spectra of some double join operations of graphs. We first introduce the conception of double join matrix and provide a complete information about its eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenvectors. Further, we define four variants of double join operations based on subdivision graph, $Q$-graph, $R$-graph and total graph. Applying the result obtained for the double join matrix, we give an explicit complete ch…
Turán type extremal problem is how to maximize the number of edges over all graphs which do not contain fixed forbidden subgraphs. Similarly, spectral Turán type extremal problem is how to maximize (signless Laplacian) spectral radius over all graphs which do not contain fixed subgraphs. A rose graph is a graph consisting of cycles that all meet in one vertex. We show that except for two specific examples, these rose graphs are determined by the Laplacian spectrum, thus proving a conjecture posed by Lui and Huang [F.J. Liu and Q.X. Huang, Laplacian spectral characterization of 3-rose graphs, Linear Algebra Appl. 439 (2013), 2914--2920]. We also show that if two rose graphs have a so-called universal Laplacian matrix with the same spectrum, then they must be isomorphic. In memory of Horst Sachs (1927-2016), we show the specific case of the latter result for the adjacency matrix…
For any given graph G = (V,E) we define in a certain way a new graph G(x,y,z) with the vertex set V\cup E depending on parameters x,y,z from {0,1, +, -} and call graph G(x,y,z) the (x,y,z)-transformation of G. It turns out that if G is an r-regular graph, then the Laplacian polynomial of G(x,y,z) is a function of |V|, r, and the Laplacian spectrum of G. We give a complete description of this function.
A tree is called double starlike if it has exactly two vertices of degree greater than two. Let $H(p,n,q)$ denote the double starlike tree obtained by attaching $p$ pendant vertices to one pendant vertex of the path $P_n$ and $q$ pendant vertices to the other pendant vertex of $P_n$. In this paper, we prove that $H(p,n,q)$ is determined by its Laplacian spectrum.
The normalized distance Laplacian of a graph $G$ is defined as $\mathcal{D}^\mathcal{L}(G)=T(G)^{-1/2}(T(G)-\mathcal{D}(G))T(G)^{-1/2}$ where $\mathcal{D}(G)$ is the matrix with pairwise distances between vertices and $T(G)$ is the diagonal transmission matrix. In this project, we study the minimum and maximum spectral radii associated with this matrix, and the structures of the graphs that achieve these values. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Reinhart that the complete graph is the unique graph with minimum spectral radius, and we give several partial results towards a second conjectu…
Then $Q_{D}(G)=Tr(G)+D(G)$ and $L_{D}(G)=Tr(G)-D(G)$ are respectively the distance signless Laplacian matrix and distance Laplacian matrix of $G$. The largest eigenvalues $ρ_{Q}(G)$ and $ρ_{L}(G)$ of $Q_D(G)$ and $L_D(G)$ are respectively called distance signless Laplacian spectral…
A fractional matching of a graph $G$ is a function $f$ giving each edge a number in $[0,1]$ such that $\sum_{e\inΓ(v)}f(e)\leq1$ for each vertex $v\in V(G)$, where $Γ(v)$ is the set of edges incident to $v$. The fractional matching number of $G$, written $α^{\prime}_*(G)$, is the maximum value of $\sum_{e\in E(G)}f(e)$ over all fractional matchings. In this paper, we investigate the relations between the fractional matching number and the signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph. Moreover, we give some sufficient spectral conditions for the existence of a fractional perfect matching.
Let $G$ be a finite non abelian group. The centralizer graph of $G$ is a simple undirected graph $Γ_{cent}(G)$, whose vertices are the proper centralizers of $G$ and two vertices are adjacent if and only if their cardinalities are identical {\rm\cite{omer}}. The complement of the centralizer graph is called the co-centralizer graph. In this paper, we investigate the adjacency and (signless) Laplacian spectra of centralizer and co-centralizer graphs of some classes of finite non-abelian groups and obtain some conditions on a group so that the centralizer and co-centralizer graphs are adjacency,…
In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a $K_{2,t}$-minor free graph of order $n\geq t^2+4t+1$ with $t\geq 3$, the signless Laplacian spectral radius $q(G)\leq \frac{1}{2}(n+2t-2+\sqrt{(n-2t+2)^2+8t-8}\ )$ with equality if and only if $n\equiv 1~(\mathrm{mod}~t)$ and $G=F_{2,t}(n)$, where $F_{s,t}(n):=K_{s-1}\vee (p\cdot K_t\cup K_r)$ for $n-s+1=pt+r$ and $0\leq r<t$. In particular, if $t=3$ and $n\geq 22$, then $F_{2,3}(n)$ is the unique $K_{2,3}$-minor free graph of order $n$ with the maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius. In addition, $F_{3,3}(n)$ is the unique extremal graph with the m…
The distance matrix $\mathcal{D}$ of a connected graph $G$ is the matrix indexed by the vertices of $G$ which entry $\mathcal{D}_{i,j}$ equals the distance between the vertices $v_i$ and $v_j$. The distance signless Laplacian matrix $\mathcal{Q}(G)$ of graph $G$ is defined as $\mathcal{Q}(G)=Diag(Tr)+\mathcal{D}(G)$, where $Diag(Tr)$ is the diagonal matrix of the vertex transmissions in $G$. The largest eigenvalue of $\mathcal{Q}(G)$ is called the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G$, written as $η_1(G)$. And a perfect matching in a graph is a set of disadjacent edges covering ev…
Let $k$ and $n$ be two nonnegative integers with $n\equiv0$ (mod 2), and let $G$ be a graph of order $n$ with a 1-factor. Then $G$ is said to be $k$-extendable for $0\leq k\leq\frac{n-2}{2}$ if every matching in $G$ of size $k$ can be extended to a 1-factor. In this paper, we first establish a lower bound on the signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G$ to ensure that $G$ is $k$-extendable. Then we create some extremal graphs to claim that all the bounds derived in this article are sharp.
We study the symmetry properties of the spectra of normalized Laplacians on signed graphs. We find a new machinery that generates symmetric spectra for signed graphs, which includes bipartiteness of unsigned graphs as a special case. Moreover, we prove a fundamental connection between the symmetry of the spectrum and the existence of damped two-periodic solutions for the discrete-time heat equation on the graph.
The paper is a brief survey of some recent new results and progress of the Laplacian spectra of graphs and complex networks (in particular, random graph and the small world network). The main contents contain the spectral radius of the graph Laplacian for given a degree sequence, the Laplacian coefficients, the algebraic connectivity and the graph doubly stochastic matrix, and the spectra of random graphs and the small world networks. In addition, some questions are proposed.
A Laplacian matrix is a square real matrix with nonpositive off-diagonal entries and zero row sums. As a matrix associated with a weighted directed graph, it generalizes the Laplacian matrix of an ordinary graph. A standardized Laplacian matrix is a Laplacian matrix with the absolute values of the off-diagonal entries not exceeding 1/n, where n is the order of the matrix. We study the spectra of Laplacian matrices and relations between Laplacian matrices and stochastic matrices. We prove that the standardized Laplacian matrices are semiconvergent. The multiplicities of 0 and 1 as the eigenvalu…
The spectral theory of the normalized Laplacian for chemical hypergraphs is further investigated. The signless normalized Laplacian is introduced and it is shown that its spectrum for classical hypergraphs coincides with the spectrum of the normalized Laplacian for bipartite chemical hypergraphs. Furthermore, the spectra of special families of hypergraphs are established.
Calculating a product of multiple graphs has been studied in mathematics, engineering, computer science, and more recently in network science, particularly in the context of multilayer networks. One of the important questions to be addressed in this area is how to characterize spectral properties of a product graph using those of its factor graphs. While several such characterizations have already been obtained analytically (mostly for adjacency spectra), characterization of Laplacian spectra of direct product and strong product graphs has remained an open problem. Here we develop practical me…
Constructing and studying distributed control systems requires the analysis of the Laplacian spectra and the forest structure of directed graphs. In this paper, we present some basic results of this analysis partially obtained by the present authors. We also discuss the application of these results to decentralized control and touch upon some problems of spectral graph theory.
