An exact time-dependent solution of a black hole is found in conformally invariant gravity on a warped Randall-Sundrum spacetime, by writing the metric $g_{μν}=ω^{\frac{4}{n-2}}\tilde g_{μν}$. Here $\tilde g_{μν}$ represents the "un-physical" spacetime and $ω$ the dilaton field, which will be treated on equal footing as any renormalizable scalar field. In the case of a five-dimensional warped spacetime, we write $ ^{(4)}{\tilde g_{μν}}=\barω^2{ ^{(4)}\bar g_{μν}}$ Both $ω$ and $\barω$ can be used to describe the different notion the in-going and outside observers have of the Hawking radiation by using different conformal gauge freedom. The disagreement about the interior of the black hole is explained by the antipodal map of points on the horizon. The free parameters of the solution can be chosen in such a way that $\bar g_{μν}$ is singular-free and topologically regular, even for $ω\rightarrow 0$. It is remarkable that the 5D and 4D effective field equations for the metric components and dilaton fields can be written in general dimension $ n= 4,5$. It is conjectured that, in context of quantization procedures in the vicinity of the horizon, unitarity problems only occur in the bulk at large extra-dimension scale. The subtraction point in an effective theory will be in the UV only in the bulk, because the use of a large extra dimension results in a fundamental Planck scale comparable with the electroweak scale.
We present explicit analytic form of general warped solutions of the string inspired dilaton gravity system with bulk cosmological constant in 5 dimensions. The general solution allows for either nonvanishing effective 4-dimensional cosmological constant or the nontrivial 4-dimensional dilaton but not both.
Static solutions with a bulk dilaton are derived in the context of six dimensional warped compactification. In the string frame, exponentially decreasing warp factors are identified with critical points of the low energy $β$-functions truncated at a given order in the string tension corrections. The stability of the critical points is discussed in the case of the first string tension correction. The singularity properties of the obtained solutions are analyzed and illustrative numerical examples are provided.
We review the brane world sum rules of Gibbons at al for compact five dimensional warped models with identical four-geometries and bulk dynamics involving scalar fields with generic potential. We show that the absence of dilaton tadpoles in the action functional of the theory is linked to one of these sum rules. Moreover, we calculate the dilaton mass term and derive the condition that is necessary for stabilizing the system.
A thorough investigation is presented of the exact black hole solution on a warped five-dimensional spacetime in conformal dilaton gravity (CDG), found in earlier work. Summarized, we will prove: The black hole solution in the CDG model on a warped 5D spacetime: 1. It is an exact solution for the metric components as well as for the dilaton field. 2.The quintic polynomial describing the zero's of the model, has no essential singularities. 3.If we write $^{(5)}g_{μν}=ω^{4/3}{^{(5)}}{\tilde g_{μν}}, ^{(5)}\tilde g_{μν}=^{(4)}\tilde g_{μν}+n_μn_ν, ^{(4)}\tilde g_{μν}=\barω^2 {^{(4)}}\bar g{μν}$ t…
We investigate on a Randall-Sundrum warped spacetime, a Kerr-like black hole in the conformal dilaton-Higgs $(ω,Φ)$ gravity model. We applied the antipodal boundary condition on the Klein surface using the $\mathds{Z}_2$-symmetry in the "large" (bulk) extra dimension. It turns out that the pseudo-Riemannian 5D manifold can be written as an effective 4D Riemannian brane spacetime, $\mathds{R}^2_+\times\mathds{R}^1\times S^1$, where $\mathds{R}^2_+$ is conformally flat. The solution in valid on both manifolds. So the solution can equally well described by an instanton solution. An advantage is t…
We analyze the backreaction of dilaton tadpoles on the geometry of non-supersymmetric strings. After finding explicit warped solutions for a T-dual version of the Sugimoto model, we examine the possibility of realizing large extra dimension scenarios within the context of non-supersymmetric string models. Our analysis reveals an appealing mechanism to dynamically reduce the number of flat, non-compact directions in non-supersymmetric string theories.
We study the extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a light dilaton in a five dimensional warped model. In particular, we analyze the coupling of the dilaton with the SM matter fields, compare the model predictions with Electroweak Precisions Tests and find the corresponding bounds on the mass of the lightest Kaluza-Klein modes. We also investigate the possibility that the Higgs-like resonance found at the LHC can be a dilaton. Finally, we show that our set-up can also provide an explanation of the anomalies recently observed in $B$-meson decays.
In general warped compactifications, non-trivial backgrounds for the warp factor and the dilaton break $D$-dimensional diffeomorphism invariance, so that dilaton fluctuations can be gauged away completely and eaten by the metric. More specifically, the warped volume modulus and the dilaton are not independent, but combine into a single gauge-invariant degree of freedom in the lower dimensional effective theory, the warped breathing mode. This occurs for all strengths of the warping, even the weakly warped limit. This warped breathing mode appears as a natural zero mode deformation of backgroun…
We study the relation between the (generalized) conformal quantum mechanics of 0-branes and the two-dimensional dilaton gravity. The two-dimensional actions obtained from the supergravity effective actions for the (dilatonic) 0-branes through the compactification on a sphere are related to known two-dimensional dilaton gravity models. The SL(2,R) symmetry of the (generalized) conformal quantum mechanics is realized within such two-dimensional models. The two-dimensional dilatonic gravity model derived from the non-dilatonic 0-brane action is related to the Liouville theory and therefore is con…
We compute the full spectrum and eigenstates of the Kalb-Ramond field in a warped non-compact Randall-Sundrum -type five-dimensional spacetime in which the ordinary four-dimensional braneworld is represented by a sine-Gordon soliton. This 3-brane solution is fully consistent with both the warped gravitational field and bulk dilaton configurations. In such a background we embed a bulk antisymmetric tensor field and obtain, after reduction, an infinite tower of normalizable Kaluza-Klein massive components along with a zero-mode. The low lying mass eigenstates of the Kalb-Ramond field may be rela…
In this paper, we analytically calculate the quasinormal modes of scalar, vector, tensor, and spinor perturbations of the warped dS$_3$ black hole. There are two horizons for the warped dS$_3$ black hole, namely, the black hole horizon $r_b$ and the cosmological horizon $r_c$. In the calculation, we impose the ingoing boundary condition at the black hole horizon and the outgoing boundary condition at the cosmological horizon. We also investigate the hidden conformal symmetry of the warped dS$_3$ black hole in the region between the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon $r_b<r<r_c$. W…
We investigate the behavior of generic, matter-coupled, 2D dilaton gravity theories under dilaton-dependent Weyl rescalings of the metric. We show that physical observables associated with 2D black holes, such as the mass, the temperature and the flux of Hawking radiation are invariant under the action of both Weyl transformations and dilaton reparametrizations. The field theoretical and geometrical meaning of these invariances is discussed.
We extend the recently proposal of hidden conformal symmetry to the self-dual warped AdS$_3$ black holes in topological massive gravity. It is shown that the wave equation of massive scalar field with sufficient small angular momentum can be reproduced by the SL(2, R) Casimir quadratic operator. Due to the periodic identification in the $ϕ$ direction, it is found that only the left section of hidden conformal symmetry is broken to U(1), while the right section is unbroken, which only gives the left temperature of dual CFT. As a check of the dual CFT conjecture of self-warped AdS$_3$ black hole…
Conformal symmetry is investigated within the context of axion-dilaton-modulus theory of gravity of Brans-Dicke-type. A distinction is made between general conformal symmetry and invariance under transformations of the physical units. The conformal degree of symmetry of the theory is studied when quantum fermion (lepton) modes with electromagnetic interaction are considered. Based on the requirement of invariance of the physical laws under general transformations of the units of measure, arguments are given that point at a matter action with non-minimal coupling of the dilaton to the matter fi…
Using a uniformization map we determine the holographic entanglement entropy for states of a Warped Conformal Field Theory dual to a generic vacuum metric in AdS$_3$ gravity with Compère--Song--Strominger boundary conditions. We point out how that expression could lead to inequalities that can be interpreted as quantum energy conditions for Warped Conformal Field Theories.
We show that the warped de Sitter compactifications are possible under certain conditions in D-dimensional gravitational theory coupled to a dilaton, a form field strength, and a cosmological constant. We find that the solutions of field equations give de Sitter spacetime with the warped structure, and discuss cosmological models directly obtained from these solutions. We also construct a cosmological model in the lower-dimensional effective theory. If there is a field strength having non-vanishing components along the internal space, the moduli can be fixed at the minimum of the effective pot…
We study finite-dimensional extra symmetries of generic 2D dilaton gravity models. Using a non-linear sigma model formulation we show that the unique theories admitting an extra (conformal) symmetry are the models with an exponential potential $V \propto e^{βϕ}$ ($ S ={1\over2π} \int d^2 x \sqrt{-g} [ R ϕ+ 4 λ^2 e^{βϕ} ]$), which include the CGHS model as a particular though limiting ($β=0$) case. These models give rise to black hole solutions with a mass-dependent temperature. The underlying extra symmetry can be maintained in a natural way in the one-loop effective action, thus implying the …
The uniqueness theorem for static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat, higher dimensional phantom black holes, with non-degenerate event horizon , being the solutions of Einstein phantom/dilaton Maxwell/anti-Maxwell gravity systems is considered. Conformal positive energy theorem and conformal transformations authorize the crucial tools for exploiting the boundary conditions and conformal flatness.

Quantum mechanical boundary conditions along a timelike line, corresponding to the origin in radial coordinates, in two-dimensional dilaton gravity coupled to $N$ matter fields, are considered. Conformal invariance and vacuum stability severely constrain the possibilities. The simplest choice found corresponds to a nonlinear Liouville-type boundary interaction. The scattering of low-energy matter off the boundary can be computed perturbatively. It is found that weak incident pulses induce damped oscillations at the boundary while large incident pulses produce black holes. The response of the b…
We provide boundary conditions for three-dimensional gravity including boosted Rindler spacetimes, representing the near-horizon geometry of non-extremal black holes or flat space cosmologies. These boundary conditions force us to make some unusual choices, like integrating the canonical boundary currents over retarded time and periodically identifying the latter. The asymptotic symmetry algebra turns out to be a Witt algebra plus a twisted u(1) current algebra with vanishing level, corresponding to a twisted warped CFT that is qualitatively different from the ones studied so far in the litera…
Warped conformal field theory (WCFT) is a two dimensional quantum field theory whose local symmetry algebra consists of a Virasoro algebra and a U(1) Kac-Moody algebra. In this paper, we study correlation functions for primary operators in WCFT. Similar to conformal symmetry, warped conformal symmetry is very constraining. The form of the two and three point functions are determined by the global warped conformal symmetry while the four point functions can be determined up to an arbitrary function of the cross ratio. The warped conformal bootstrap equation are constructed by formulating the no…
Trace anomaly for dilaton coupled conformal theories on curved background with non-zero dilaton is found from supergravity side as an IR effect using AdS/CFT correspondence. For $d=2$ it coincides with the conformal anomaly for dilaton coupled scalar (up to total derivative term which is known to be ambiguous). In four-dimensional case we get conformal anomaly for ${\cal N}=4$ super YM theory interacting with conformal supergravity. In the same way the calculation of dilaton dependent conformal anomaly in higher dimensions seems to be much easier than using standard QFT methods.
We study the 10D equation of motion of dilaton-axion fluctuations in type IIB string compactifications with three-form flux, taking warping into account. Using simplified models with physics comparable to actual compactifications, we argue that the lightest mode localizes in long warped throats and takes a mass of order the warped string scale. Also, Gukov-Vafa-Witten superpotential is valid for the lightest mass mode; however, the mass is similar to the Kaluza-Klein scale, so the dilaton-axion should be integrated out of the effective theory in this long throat regime (leaving a constant supe…
We study various aspects of warped conformal field theories (WCFTs) in two dimensions. We find new Lagrangian WCFTs, and show that all known Lagrangian WCFTs are local only after an infinite tuning. We deduce the anomalies of WCFTs and relate them to central charges, as well as analyze WCFT hydrostatics, thereby re-deriving the warped analogue of the Cardy formula. Finally, we point out that holographic WCFTs are semi-local, that matter fields in spacelike WAdS$_3$ black hole geometries exhibit a Gregory-Laflamme-like instability, and that WAdS$_3$ throats do not admit a decoupling limit.
The conformal anomaly for 4D gravity-matter theories, which are non-minimally coupled with the dilaton, is systematically studied. Special care is taken for: rescaling of fields, treatment of total derivatives, hermiticity of the system operator and choice of measure. Scalar, spinor and vector fields are taken as the matter quantum fields and their explicit conformal anomalies in the gravity-dilaton background are found. The cohomology analysis is done and some new conformal invariants and trivial terms, involving the dilaton, are obtained. The symmetry of the constant shift of the dilaton fie…
We revise the calculation of the one-loop effective action for scalar and spinor fields coupled to the dilaton in two dimensions. Applying the method of covariant perturbation theory for the heat kernel we derive the effective action in an explicitly covariant form that produces both the conformally invariant and the conformally anomalous terms. For scalar fields the conformally invariant part of the action is nonlocal. The obtained effective action is proved to be infrared finite. We also compute the one-loop effective action for scalar fields at finite temperature.
The general structure of the conformal anomaly and the dilaton's effect to it are analysed. First we give a new formal proof of the statement that the conformal anomaly, in the theory which is conformal invariant at the classical level, is conformal invariant. The heat-kernel regularization and Fujikawa's method are taken for the analysis. We present a new explicit result of the conformal anomaly in 4 dimensional photon-dilaton gravity. This result is examined from the point of the general structure.
In this work, we study the supersymmetric warped conformal field theory in two dimensions. We show that the Hofman-Strominger theorem on symmetry enhancement could be generalized to the supersymmetric case. More precisely, we find that within a chiral superspace $(x^+,þ)$, a two-dimensional field theory with two translational invariance and a chiral scaling symmetry can have enhanced local symmetry, under the assumption that the dilation spectrum is discrete and non-negative. Similar to the pure bosonic case, there are two kinds of minimal models, one being $N=(1,0)$ supersymmetric conformal f…
Motivated by the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence, we investigate the holographic dual of the extremal and non-extremal rotating linear dilaton black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity. For the case of extremal black hole, by imposing the appropriate boundary condition at spatial infinity of the near horizon extremal geometry, the Virasoro algebra of conserved charges associated with the asymptotic symmetry group is obtained. It is shown that the microscopic entropy of the dual conformal field given by Cardy formula exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extrema…
The characteristic feature of the spontaneous symmetry breaking is the presence of the Goldstone mode(s). For the conformal symmetry broken spontaneously the corresponding Goldstone boson is the dilaton. Coupling an arbitrary system to the dilaton in a consistent (with quantum corrections) way has certain difficulties due to the trace anomaly. In this paper we present the approach allowing for an arbitrary system without the gravitational anomaly to keep the dilaton massless at all orders in perturbation theory, i.e. to build a theory with conformal symmetry broken spontaneously.
We construct and study general static, spherically symmetric, magnetically charged solutions in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in four dimensions. That is, taking Einstein gravity coupled to a ${\rm U}(1)$ gauge field and a massless dilaton$\unicode{x2014}$e.g., the action in the low-energy limit of string theory or Kaluza-Klein reduction$\unicode{x2014}$with arbitrary dilaton coupling, we build a three-parameter family of objects characterized by their mass, charge, and dilaton flux, generalizing the well known Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger black hole. We analyze the near-extremal and near-…
We recently proposed a chameleonic solution to the cosmological constant problem - Phys. Rev. D82 (2010) 044006. One of the results of that paper is a non-equivalence of different conformal frames at the quantum level. In this letter we further discuss our proposal focusing our attention on the conformal transformation. Moreover, we point out that a different choice of parameters is necessary in the model.
We investigate the stability of the extra dimensions in a warped, codimension two braneworld that is based upon an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with a non-vanishing scalar field potential. The braneworld solution has two 3-branes, which are located at the positions of the conical singularities. For this type of brane solution the relative positions of the branes (the shape modulus) is determined via the tension-deficit relations, if the brane tensions are fixed. However, the volume of the extra dimensions (the volume modulus) is not fixed in the context of the classical theory, implying we …
We construct rotating magnetic solutions to the three-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons-dilaton theory with a Liouville potential. These include a class of black hole solutions which generalize the warped AdS black holes. The regular black holes belong to two disjoint sectors. The first sector includes black holes which have a positive mass and are co-rotating, while the black holes of the second sector have a negative mass and are counter-rotating. We also show that a particular, non-black hole, subfamily of our three-dimensional solutions may be uplifted to new regular non-asymptotic…
We evaluate the influence functional for two dimensional models of dilaton gravity. This functional is exactly computed when the conformal invariance is preserved, and it can be written as the difference between the Liouville actions on each closed-time-path branch plus a boundary term. From the influence action we derive the covariant form of the semiclassical field equations. We also study the quantum to classical transition in cosmological backgrounds. In the conformal case we show that the semiclassical approximation is not valid because there is no imaginary part in the influence action. …
We consider a two-dimensional conformal field theory which contains two kinds of the bosonic degrees of freedom. Two linear dilaton fields enable us to study a more general case. Various properties of the model such as OPEs, central charge, conformal properties of the fields and associated algebras will be studied.
Riemannian coordinates for flat metrics corresponding to three--dimensional conformal Poisson--Lie T--dualizable sigma models are found by solving partial differential equations that follow from the transformations of the connection components. They are then used for finding general forms of the dilaton fields satisfying the vanishing beta equations of the sigma models.
A model of matter-coupled gravity in two dimensions is quantized. The crucial requirement for performing the quantization is the vanishing of the conformal anomaly, which is achieved by tuning a parameter in the interaction potential. The spectrum of the theory is determined by mapping the model first onto a field theory with a Liouville interaction, then onto a linear dilaton conformal field theory. In absence of matter fields a pure gauge theory with massless ground state is found; otherwise it is possible to minimally couple up to 11 matter scalar fields: in this case the ground state is ta…
Recently it has been speculated that a set of diffeomorphisms exist which act non-trivially on the horizon of some black holes such as Kerr and Kerr-Newman black hole. %\cite{Haco:2018ske,Haco:2019ggi}. Using this symmetry in covariant phase space formalism one can obtain conserved charges as surface integrals on the horizon. Kerr-Bolt spacetime is well-known for its asymptotic topology and has been studied widely in recent years. In this work we are going to study Kerr-Bolt black hole and provide a holographic description of it in term of warped conformal field theory.
We introduce the concept of a base conformal warped product of two pseudo-Riemannian manifolds. We also define a subclass of this structure called as a special base conformal warped product. After, we explicitly mention many of the relevant fields where metrics of these forms and also considerations about their curvature related properties play important rolls. Among others, we cite general relativity, extra-dimension, string and super-gravity theories as physical subjects and also the study of the spectrum of Laplace-Beltrami operators on p-forms in global analysis. Then, we give expressions …
By extending the recent analysis of arXiv:2203.12203 for ${\mathcal{N}}=2$ conformal supergravity in four dimensions, we define new hyper-dilaton Weyl multiplets for five-dimensional ${\mathcal{N}}=1$, and six-dimensional ${\mathcal{N}}=(1,0)$ conformal supergravities. These are constructed by coupling the five- and six-dimensional standard Weyl multiplets to on-shell hypermultiplets and reinterpreting the systems as new multiplets of conformal supergravity. In the five-dimensional case, we also construct a new hyper-dilaton Poincaré supergravity by coupling to an off-shell vector multiplet co…
The derivation of the conformal anomaly for dilaton coupled electromagnetic field in curved space is presented. The models of this sort naturally appear in stringy gravity or after spherical reduction of multidimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. It is shown that unlike the case of minimal vector in curved space or dilaton coupled scalar the anomaly induced effective action cannot be derived. The reason is the same why anomaly induced effective action cannot be constructed for interacting theories (like QED) in curved space.
We present new exact solutions of the warped spherical compactifications in the higher-dimensional gravitational theory coupled to scalar and several form field strengths. We find two classes of solutions. One has a de Sitter spacetime with a static warp factor. The other gives an accelerating universe in the non-Einstein conformal frame with a time-dependent warp factor.
The discrepancy between the anomaly found by Bousso and Hawking (hep-th/9705236) and that of other workers is explained by the omission of a zero mode contribution to the effective action.
We propose a framework of modulus stabilization in two brane warped geometry scenario in presence of higher curvature gravity and dilaton in bulk space-time. In the prescribed setup we study various features of the stabilized potential for the modulus field, generated by a bulk scalar degrees of freedom with quartic interactions localized on the two 3-branes placed at the orbifold fixed points. We determine the parameter space for the gravidilaton and Gauss-Bonnet required to stabilize the modulus in such higher curvature dilaton gravity setup.
We present a detailed discussion of entanglement entropy in (1+1)-dimensional Warped Conformal Field Theories (WCFTs). We implement the Rindler method to evaluate entanglement and Renyi entropies for a single interval and along the way we interpret our results in terms of twist field correlation functions. Holographically a WCFT can be described in terms of Lower Spin Gravity, a SL(2,R)xU(1) Chern-Simons theory in three dimensions. We show how to obtain the universal field theory results for entanglement in a WCFT via holography. For the geometrical description of the theory we introduce the c…
We discuss, in conformally invariant field theories such as QCD with massless fermions, a possible link between the perturbative signature of the conformal anomaly, in the form of anomaly poles of the 1-particle irreducible effective action, and its description in terms of Wess-Zumino actions with a dilaton. The two descriptions are expected to capture the UV and IR behaviour of the conformal anomaly, in terms of fundamental and effective degrees of freedom respectively, with the dilaton effective state appearing in a nonlinear realization. As in the chiral case, conformal anomalies seem to be…
Various aspects of warped conformal field theories (WCFTs) are studied including entanglement entropy on excited states, the Renyi entropy after a local quench, and out-of-time-order four-point functions. Assuming a large central charge and dominance of the vacuum block in the conformal block expansion, (i) we calculate the single-interval entanglement entropy on an excited state, matching previous finite temperature results by changing the ensemble; and (ii) we show that WCFTs are maximally chaotic, a result that is compatible with the existence of black holes in the holographic duals. Finall…
We have considered the quantum behavior of a conformally induced gravity in the minimal Riemann-Cartan space. The regularized one-loop effective potential considering the quantum fluctuations of the dilaton and the torsion fields in the Coleman-Weinberg sector gives a sensible phase transition for an inflationary phase in De Sitter space. For this effective potential, we have analyzed the semi-classical equation of motion of the dilaton field in the slow-rolling regime.
We discuss the connections between the complex SYK model at the conformal limit and warped conformal field theories. Both theories have an $SL(2,R) \times U(1)$ global symmetry. We present comparisons on symmetries, correlation functions, the effective action and the entropy formula. We also use modular covariance to reinterpret results in the complex SYK model.
In this paper, we investigate the warped dS/CFT correspondence of the self-dual warped dS$_3$ spacetime, which is a solution of three-dimensional topologically massive gravity (TMG) with a positive cosmological constant. We discuss its thermodynamics at two cosmological horizons. We propose that the self-dual warped dS$_3$ spacetime is holographically dual to a chiral conformal field theory. We analytically calculate the quasinormal modes of scalar, vector, tensor, and spinor perturbations under the self-dual warped dS$_3$ spacetime. It turns out that the frequencies of the quasinormal modes c…
The Ward identities involving the currents associated to the spontaneously broken scale and special conformal transformations are derived and used to determine, through linear order in the two soft-dilaton momenta, the double-soft behavior of scattering amplitudes involving two soft dilatons and any number of other particles. It turns out that the double-soft behavior is equivalent to performing two single-soft limits one after the other. We confirm the new double-soft theorem perturbatively at tree-level in a $D$-dimensional conformal field theory model, as well as nonperturbatively by using …
We consider a string-inspired torsion-dilaton-gravity action in a Randall-Sundrum brane world scenario and show that, in an effective four-dimensional theory on the visible brane, the rank-2 antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field (source of torsion) is exponentially suppressed. The result is similar to our earlier result in [12], where no dilaton was present in the bulk. This offers an explanation of the apparent invisibility of torsion in our space-time. However, in this case the trilinear couplings ~ Tev^{-1} between dilaton and torsion may lead to new signals in Tev scale experiments, bearing the …
We give necessary conditions for the existence of perturbative heterotic and common sector type II string warped compactifications preserving four and eight supersymmetries to four spacetime dimensions, respectively. In particular, we find that the only compactifications of heterotic string with the spin connection embedded in the gauge connection and type II strings are those on Calabi-Yau manifolds with constant dilaton. We obtain similar results for compactifications to six and to two dimensions.
We construct spacetime supersymmetric, modular invariant partition functions of strings on the conifold-type singularities which include contributions from the discrete-series representations of SL(2, R). The discrete spectrum is automatically consistent with the GSO projection in the continuous sector, and contains massless matter fields localized on a four-dimensional submanifold at the tip of a cigar. In particular, they are in the 27+1 of E6 for the E8 x E8 heterotic string. We speculate about a possible realization of local E6 GUT by using this framework.
When quantizing Conformal Dilaton Gravity there is a conformal anomaly which starts at two loop order. This anomaly stems from evanescent operators on the divergent parts of the effective action. The general form of the finite counterterm which is necessary in order to insure cancellation of the Weyl anomaly to every order in perturbation theory has been determined using only conformal invariance . Those finite counterterms do not have any inverse power of any mass scale in front of them (precisely because of conformal invariance) and then they are not negligible in the low energy deep infrare…
