We introduce a novel wall-crossing phenomenon in the space of Bridgeland stability conditions: a wall in the stability space of canonical genus 4 curves that induces non-Q-factorial singularities and hence, it cannot be detected as an operation in the Minimal Model Program of the corresponding moduli space, unlike the case for many surfaces. More precisely, we give an example of a wall-crossing in $D^b(\mathbb{P}^3)$ such that the wall induces a small contraction of the moduli space of stable objects associated to one of the adjacent chambers, but a divisorial contraction to the other. This significantly complicates the overall picture in this correspondence to applications of stability conditions to algebraic geometry. The full wall-crossing for canonical genus four curves and the geometry are considered in the published paper [26]; this article is devoted to describe a particularly interesting wall among the walls in [26] in full details to explain the novel phenomenon.
We use wall-crossing with respect to Bridgeland stability conditions to systematically study the birational geometry of a moduli space M of stable sheaves on a K3 surface X: 1. We describe the nef cone, the movable cone, and the effective cone of M in terms of the Mukai lattice of X. 2. We establish a long-standing conjecture that predicts the existence of a birational Lagrangian fibration on M whenever M admits an integral divisor class D of square zero (with respect to the Beauville-Bogomolov form). These results are proved using a natural map from the space of Bridgeland stability condition…
We use wall-crossing in the Bridgeland stability manifold to systematically study the birational geometry of the moduli space $M_σ(\mathbf{v})$ of $σ$-semistable objects of class $\mathbf{v}$ for a generic stability condition $σ$ on an arbitrary Enriques surface $X$. In particular, we show that for any other generic stability condition $τ$, the two moduli spaces $M_τ(\mathbf{v})$ and $M_σ(\mathbf{v})$ are birational. As a consequence, we show that for primitive $\mathbf{v}$ of odd rank $M_σ(\mathbf{v})$ is birational to a Hilbert scheme of points. Similarly, in even rank we show that $M_σ(\mat…
We study the birational geometry of deformations of Hilbert schemes of points on the projective plane P2. We complete the picture in the paper of Daniele Arcara, Aaron Bertram, Izzet Coskun and Jack Huizenga by giving an explicit correspondence between the stable base locus walls on the Neron-Severi space and the actual walls on the Bridgeland stability space. We show that the birational geometry of a deformed Hilb P2 is different from that of Hilb P2.
We compute I-functions and central charges for abelian GLSMs using virtual matrix factorizations of Favero and Kim. In the Calabi-Yau case we provide analytic continuation for the central charges by explicit integral formulas. The integrals in question are called hemisphere partition functions and we call the integral representation Higgs-Coulomb correspondence. We then use it to prove GIT stability wall-crossing for central charges.
Motivated by Witten's work (arXiv:hep-th/9312104), we propose the Verlinde/Grassmannian correspondence which relates the GL Verlinde numbers to the K-theoretic quasimap invariants of the Grassmannian. We recover these two types of invariants by imposing different stability conditions on the gauged linear sigma model associated to the Grassmannian. We construct two families of stability conditions connecting the two theories and prove two wall-crossing results. We confirm the Verlinde/Grassmannian correspondence in the rank two case.
We study the birational geometry of moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on the projective plane via Bridgeland stability conditions. We show that the entire MMP of their moduli spaces can be run via wall-crossing. Via a description of the walls, we give a numerical description of their movable cones, along with its chamber decomposition corresponding to minimal models. As an application, we show that for primitive vectors, all birational models corresponding to open chambers in the movable cone are smooth and irreducible.
In this paper, we prove the categorical wall-crossing formula for certain quivers containing the three loop quiver, which we call DT/PT quivers. These quivers appear as Ext-quivers for the wall-crossing of DT/PT moduli spaces on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. The resulting formula is a semiorthogonal decomposition which involves quasi-BPS categories studied in our previous papers, and we regard it as a categorical analogue of the numerical DT/PT correspondence. As an application, we prove a categorical DT/PT correspondence for sheaves supported on reduced plane curves in the affine three dimensional spac…
We calculate the Euler characteristic of associated vector bundles over the moduli spaces of stable parabolic bundles on smooth curves. Our method is based on a wall-crossing technique from Geometric Invariant Theory, certain iterated residue calculus and the tautological Hecke correspondence. Our work was motivated by the results of Teleman and Woodward on the index of K-theory classes on moduli stacks.
Toroidal 3-orbifolds $(S^1)^6/G$, for $G$ a finite group, were some of the earliest examples of Calabi-Yau 3-orbifolds to be studied in string theory. While much mathematical progress towards the predictions of string theory has been made in the meantime, most of it has dealt with hypersurfaces in toric varieties. As a result, very little is known about curve-counting theories on toroidal orbifolds. In this paper, we initiate a program to study mirror symmetry and the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau (LG/CY) correspondence for toroidal orbifolds. We focus on the simplest example $[E^3/μ_3],$ where $…
We study Quot schemes of 0-dimensional quotients of sheaves on 3-folds $X$. When the sheaf $\mathcal{R}$ is rank 2 and reflexive, we prove that the generating function of Euler characteristics of these Quot schemes is a power of the MacMahon function times a polynomial. This polynomial is itself the generating function of Euler characteristics of Quot schemes of a certain 0-dimensional sheaf, which is supported on the locus where $\mathcal{R}$ is not locally free. In the case $X = \mathbb{C}^3$ and $\mathcal{R}$ is equivariant, we use our result to prove an explicit product formula for the gen…
We study wall-crossing phenomena in the McKay correspondence. Craw-Ishii show that every projective crepant resolution of a Gorenstein abelian quotient singularity arises as a moduli space of $θ$-stable representations of the McKay quiver. The stability condition $θ$ moves in a vector space with a chamber decomposition in which (some) wall-crossings capture flops between different crepant resolutions. We investigate where chambers for certain resolutions with Hilbert scheme-like moduli interpretations - iterated Hilbert schemes, or 'Hilb of Hilb' - sit relative to the principal chamber definin…
Holomorphic chains on a Riemann surface arise naturally as fixed points of the natural C*-action on the moduli space of Higgs bundles. In this paper we associate a new quiver bundle to the Hom-complex of two chains, and prove that stability of the chains implies stability of this new quiver bundle. Our approach uses the Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence for quiver bundles. Moreover, we use our result to give a new proof of a key lemma on chains (due to Álvarez-Cónsul, García-Prada and Schmitt), which has been important in the study of Higgs bundle moduli; this proof relies on stability and thus…
In the paper we show that for a normal-crossings degeneration $Z$ over the ring of integers of a local field with $X$ as generic fibre, the local monodromy operator and its powers determine invariant cocycle classes under the decomposition group in the cohomology of the product $X \times X$. More precisely, they also define algebraic cycles on the special fibre of a resolution of $Z \times Z$. In the paper, we give an explicit description of these cycles for a degeneration with at worst triple points as singularities. These cycles explain geometrically the presence of poles on specific local f…
In this paper, we study holomorphic discs in K3 surfaces and defined the open Gromov-Witten invariants. Using this new invariant, we can establish a version of correspondence between tropical discs and holomorphic discs with non-trivial invariants. We give an example of wall-crossing phenomenon of the invariant and expect it satisfies Kontsevich-Soibelman wall-crossing formula.
The hybrid model is the Landau-Ginszburg-type theory that is expected, via the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence, to match the Gromov-Witten theory of a complete intersection in weighted projective space. We prove a wall-crossing formula exhibiting the dependence of the genus-zero hybrid model on its stability parameter, generalizing the work of the second author and Ruan for quantum singularity theory and paralleling the work of Ciocan-Fontanine--Kim for quasimaps. This completes the proof of the genus-zero Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for complete intersections of hypers…
When formulated in twistor space, the D-instanton corrected hypermultiplet moduli space in N=2 string vacua and the Coulomb branch of rigid N=2 gauge theories on $R^3 \times S^1$ are strikingly similar and, to a large extent, dictated by consistency with wall-crossing. We elucidate this similarity by showing that these two spaces are related under a general duality between, on one hand, quaternion-Kahler manifolds with a quaternionic isometry and, on the other hand, hyperkahler manifolds with a rotational isometry, further equipped with a hyperholomorphic circle bundle with a connection. We sh…
Noncommutative Donaldson-Thomas invariants for abelian orbifold singularities can be studied via the enumeration of instanton solutions in a six-dimensional noncommutative N=2 gauge theory; this construction is based on the generalized McKay correspondence and identifies the instanton counting with the counting of framed representations of a quiver which is naturally associated to the geometry of the singularity. We extend these constructions to compute BPS partition functions for higher-rank refined and motivic noncommutative Donaldson-Thomas invariants in the Coulomb branch in terms of gauge…
We introduce the notion of a polynomial stability condition, generalizing Bridgeland stability conditions on triangulated categories. We construct and study a family of polynomial stability conditions for any normal projective variety. This family includes both Simpson-stability, and large volume limits of Bridgeland stability conditions. We show that the PT/DT-correspondence relating stable pairs to Donaldson-Thomas invariants (conjectured by Pandharipande and Thomas) can be understood as a wall-crossing in our family of polynomial stability conditions. Similarly, we show that the relation be…
In this paper, we study the birational geometry of the Hilbert scheme of n points on P^2. We discuss the stable base locus decomposition of the effective cone and the corresponding birational models. We give modular interpretations to the models in terms of moduli spaces of Bridgeland semi-stable objects. We construct these moduli spaces as moduli spaces of quiver representations using G.I.T. and thus show that they are projective. There is a precise correspondence between wall-crossings in the Bridgeland stability manifold and wall-crossings between Mori cones. For n at most 9, we explicitly …
In this paper, we prove a wall-crossing formula for $ε$-stable quasimaps to GIT quotients conjectured by Ciocan-Fontanine and Kim, for all targets in all genera, including the orbifold case. We prove that stability conditions in adjacent chambers give equivalent invariants, provided that both chambers are stable. In the case of genus-zero quasimaps with one marked point, we compute the invariants in the left-most stable chamber in terms of the small $I$-function. Using this we prove that the quasimap $J$-functions are on the Lagrangian cone of the Gromov--Witten theory. The proofs are based on…
We study punctual quot-schemes of torsion-free sheaves $E_Y$ on smooth projective curves, surfaces and Calabi--Yau fourfolds via their virtual geometry. Our goal is to give a complete description of the virtual fundamental classes and their tautological integrals. In the fourfold case, we first construct these classes under additional conditions. We use novel methods relying on the wall-crossing of Joyce. Our results include -the dependence of the cobordism classes on the torsion-free sheaf $E_Y$ where $Y$ is a surface, -relations to the previous results in the literature, which addressed the …
This paper summarizes recent developments in the theory of Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) state counting and the wall crossing phenomena, emphasizing in particular the role of the statistical mechanical model of crystal melting. This paper is divided into two parts, which are closely related to each other. In the first part, we discuss the statistical mechanical model of crystal melting counting BPS states. Each of the BPS state contributing to the BPS index is in one-to-one correspondence with a configuration of a molten crystal, and the statistical partition function of the melting cry…
In this paper, we investigate the stability manifold of local models of orbifold quotients of elliptic curves. In particular, we describe a component of the stability manifold which maps as a covering space onto the universal unfolding space of the mirror singularity. The construction requires a detailed study of the McKay correspondence for $A_N$ surface singularities and a study of wall-crossing phenomena.
We study the spectrum of BPS D-branes on a Calabi-Yau manifold using the 0+1 dimensional quiver gauge theory that describes the dynamics of the branes at low energies. The results of Kontsevich and Soibelman predict how the degeneracies change. We argue that Seiberg dualities of the quiver gauge theories, which change the basis of BPS states, correspond to crossing the "walls of the second kind." There is a large class of examples, including local del Pezzo surfaces, where the BPS degeneracies of quivers corresponding to one D6 brane bound to arbitrary numbers of D4, D2 and D0 branes are count…
We study the space of stability conditions on $K3$ surfaces from the perspective of mirror symmetry. It is done in the so called attractor backgrounds (moduli) which can be far from the conventional large complex limits and are selected by the attractor mechanism for certain black holes. We find certain highly non-generic behaviors of stability walls (a key notion in the study of wall crossings) in the space of stability conditions. They correspond via mirror symmetry to some non-generic behaviors of special Lagrangians in an attractor background. The main results can be understood as a mirror…
