Exact solutions of the Dirac equation, a system of four partial differential equations, are rare. The vast majority of them are for highly symmetric stationary systems. Moreover, only a handful of solutions for time dependent dynamics exists. Given the growing number of applications of high energy electron beams interacting with a variety of quantum systems in laser fields, novel methods for finding exact solutions to the Dirac equation are called for. We present a method for building up solutions to the Dirac equation employing a recently introduced approach for the description of spinorial fields and their driving electromagnetic fields in terms of geometric algebras. We illustrate the method by developing several stationary as well as non-stationary solutions of the Dirac equation with well defined orbital angular momentum along the electron's propagation direction. The first set of solutions describe free electron beams in terms of Bessel functions as well as stationary solutions for both a homogeneous and an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The second set of solutions are new and involve a plane electromagnetic wave combined with a generally inhomogeneous longitudinal magnetic field. Moreover, the developed technique allows us to derive general physical properties of the dynamics in such field configurations, as well as provides physical predictions on the self-consistent electromagnetic fields induced by the dynamics.
It is shown the central field Dirac equation can be simplified through the use of real conjugate spinors to substitute for the upper and lower components of the bi-spinor eigensolutions. This substitution reduces the Dirac equation for the hydrogen atom to the problem of solving a single second order differential equation similar to a Klein-Gordon equation but containing additional terms to take account of the spin on the electron. The bi-spinor wave functions are readily constructed once the solution is known in terms of the conjugate spinors.
This paper introduced the classical prisoner dilemma with the character and structure of quantum prisoner dilemma's strategy space. Associate with the Dirac spinor field, apply the basic quantum game strategy to the translation of the dynamics of Dirac equation. Decompose the real space and time to lattice we found that the basic interaction of spinor could be translated into quantum game theory. At the same time, we gained the new dynamics of quantized spacial evolutionary game.
We consider the Dirac equation written in polar form, without any external potential but equipped with a non-zero tensorial connection, and we find a new type of solution that is localized around the origin with a decreasing exponential behaviour in the radial coordinate.
We present a new analysis of the connection between the classical conservation theorems and the role played by the Dirac matrices in order to obtain a four spinor version of the Dirac equation for the two electrons bound problem. The separation of the set of equations in its angular and radial parts is done and an asymptotic solution for the radial system of equations is discussed for the ground state of the atom.
We present a tomographic scheme, based on spacetime symmetries, for the reconstruction of the internal degrees of freedom of a Dirac spinor. We discuss the circumstances under which the tomographic group can be taken as SU(2), and how this crucially depends on the choice of the gamma matrix representation. A tomographic reconstruction process based on discrete rotations is considered, as well as a continuous alternative.
We consider two spacelike separated Dirac particles and construct five invariants under the spinor representations of the local proper orthochronous Lorentz groups. All of the constructed Lorentz invariants are identically zero for product states. The behaviour of the Lorentz invariants under local unitary evolutions that act unitarily on any subspace with fixed particle momenta is studied. All of the Lorentz invariants have invariant absolute values on such subspaces if the evolutions are generated by local zero-mass Dirac Hamiltonians. Some of them also for the case of nonzero-mass. Therefor…
It has long been speculated that the Dirac or, more generally, the Dirac-Pauli spinor in the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) representation should behave like a classical relativistic spinor in the low-energy limit when the probability of particle-antiparticle pair creation and annihilation is negligible. In the weak-field limit of static and homogeneous electromagnetic fields, by applying the method of direct perturbation theory inductively on the orders of $1/c$ in the power series, we rigorously prove that it is indeed the case: the FW transformation of the Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian is in full agreemen…
We have studied the relativistic effects on the mean spin entanglement of two massive Dirac particles using the simultaneous eigen-spinors of the Foldy-Woutheysen mean spin operator and the Dirac Hamiltonian. We have obtained the transformation matrix from the spinor with specific momentum to the spinor with a transformed momentum under an arbitrary Lorentz transformation. Using the transformation matrix we have shown the consistent monotonic behavior between the concurrence and the maximum value of Bell parameter in Bell inequality of transformed spin states.
We present a flexible scheme to realize exact flat Landau levels on curved spherical geometry in a system of spinful cold atoms. This is achieved by Floquet engineering of a magnetic quadrupole field. We show that a synthetic monopole field in real space can be created. We prove that the system can be exactly mapped to the electron-monopole system on sphere, thus realizing Haldane's spherical geometry for fractional quantum Hall physics. The scheme works for either bosons or fermions. We investigate the ground state vortex pattern for an $s$-wave interacting atomic condensate by mapping this s…
We provide an explicit way to implement non-Abelian spin-orbital-angular-momentum (SOAM) coupling in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates using magnetic gradient coupling. For a spherical surface trap addressable using high-order Hermite-Gaussian beams, we show that this system supports various degenerate ground states carrying different total angular momenta $\mathbf{J}$, and the degeneracy can be tuned by changing the strength of SOAM coupling. For weakly interacting spinor condensates with $f=1$, the system supports various meta-ferromagnetic phases and meta-polar states described by quantized …
A two-dimensional spatially and temporally modulated Wannier-Stark system of ultracold atoms in optical lattices is shown to mimic the behavior of a Dirac particle. Suitable additional modulations generate an artificial gauge field which simulates a magnetic field and imposes the use of the full spinor-four Dirac equation.
In "Part I: Vector Analysis of Spinors", the author studied the geometry of two component spinors as points on the Riemann sphere in the geometric algebra of three dimensional Euclidean space. Here, these ideas are generalized to apply to four component Dirac spinors on the complex Riemann sphere in the complexified geometric algebra of spacetime, which includes Lorentz transformations. The development of generalized Pauli matrices eliminate the need for the traditional Dirac gamma matrices. We give the discrete probability distribution of measuring a spin 1/2 particle in an arbitrary spin sta…
Spinor fields with a vortex structure in free space that allow them to have arbitrary integer orbital angular momentum along the direction of motion have been studied for some time. Relatively new is the observation in a certain context that the vortex center of this field structure is, unlike a classical whirlpool, not singular. We point out that there are several ways to calculate the local velocity of the spinor field and that all but one show a singular vorticity at the vortex line. That one, using the Dirac bilinear current with no derivatives, is the only one so far (to our knowledge) st…
We have studied computationally the collision dynamics of spin-2 Bose--Einstein condensates initially confined in a triple-well trap. Depending on the intra- and inter-component relative phases of the initial state spinor wave function, the collision of the three condensate segments produces one of many possible vortex-antivortex lattices after which the system transitions to quantum turbulence. We find that the emerging vortex lattice structures can be described in terms of multi-wave interference. We show that the three-segment collisions can be used to systematically produce staggered vorte…
The static properties, i.e., existence and stability, as well as the quench-induced dynamics of vortex-bright type excitations in two-dimensional harmonically confined spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates are investigated. Linearly stable vortex-bright-vortex and bright-vortex-bright solutions arise in both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic spinor gases upon quadratic Zeeman energy shift variations. Their deformations across the relevant transitions are exposed and discussed in detail evincing also that emergent instabilities can lead to pattern formation. Spatial elongations, precessional motio…
We investigate a radial spin hedgehog, analogous to the Dirac monopole, in an optically trapped atomic spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate. By joining together a monopole-antimonopole pair, we may form a vortex line with free ends. We numerically simulate the three-dimensional dynamics and imaginary time relaxation of these structures to nonsingular textures and show they can be observable for realistic experimental parameters.
A topological defect in the form of the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortex is considered as a gauge-flux-carrying tube that is impenetrable for quantum matter. The relativistic spinor matter field is quantized in the vortex background in $2+1$-dimensional conical space-time which is a section orthogonal to the vortex axis; the most general set of boundary conditions ensuring the impenetrability of the vortex core is employed. We find the induced vacuum current circulating around the vortex and the induced vacuum magnetic field strength pointing along the vortex axis. The requirement of finiteness…
We show how to transform a Dirac equation in curved spacetime into a Dirac equation in flat spacetime. In particular, we show that any solution of the free massless Dirac equation in a 1+1 dimensional flat spacetime can be transformed via a local phase transformation into a solution of the corresponding Dirac equation in a curved background, where the spacetime metric is encoded into the phase. In this way, the existing quantum simulators of the Dirac equation can naturally incorporate curved spacetimes. As a first example we use our technique to obtain solutions of the Dirac equation in a par…
A generalized description of entanglement and quantum correlation properties constraining internal degrees of freedom of Dirac(-like) structures driven by arbitrary Poincaré classes of external field potentials is proposed. The role of (pseudo)scalar, (pseudo)vector and tensor interactions in producing/destroying intrinsic quantum correlations for $\mbox{SU}(2) \otimes \mbox{SU}(2)$ bi-spinor structures is discussed in terms of generic coupling constants. By using a suitable ansatz to obtain the Dirac Hamiltonian eigenspinor structure of time-independent solutions of the associated Liouville e…
A common view is that generalization of a wave equation on Riemannian space-time is substantially determined by what a particle is - boson or fermion. As a rule, they say that tensor equations for bosons are extended in a simpler way then spinor equations for fermions. In that context, a very interesting problem is of extension a wave equation for Dirac--Kähler field (Ivanenko--Landau field was historically first term, also the term a vector field of general type was used). The article relates a generally covariant tensor formalism to a spinor one when these both are applied to description of …
Three out of four complex components of the Dirac spinor can be algebraically eliminated from the Dirac equation (if some linear combination of electromagnetic fields does not vanish), yielding a partial differential equation of the fourth order for the remaining complex component. This equation is generally equivalent to the Dirac equation. Furthermore, following Schrödinger (Nature, \textbf{169}, 538 (1952)), the remaining component can be made real by a gauge transform, thus extending to the Dirac field the Schrödinger's conclusion that charged fields do not necessarily require complex repr…
Generalized Dirac equation with operator mass term is presented. Its solutions are non standard (ELKO) spinors which are eigenvectors of the charge conjugation and dual helicity operators. It is demonstrated that in spite of their non covariant nature ELKO can serve as a carrier space of a representation of Poincaré group. However, the corresponding boost generators are not manifestly covariant and generate non-local momentum dependent transformations which are presented explicitly. These results present a new look on group-theoretical grounds of ELKO theories.
Based on the observation that Cacic [10]'s characterization of almost commutative spectral triples as Clifford module bundles can be pushed to endomorphim algebras of Dirac bundles, with the geometric Dirac operator related to the Dirac operator of the spectral triple by a perturbation, the question of complete positivity of the heat semigroups generated by connection laplacian and Dirac and Kostant's cubic Dirac laplacians is approached using spin geometry and C *-Dirichlet forms. The geometric heat semigroups for on endomorphosm algebras of spinor bundles are shown to be quantum dynamical se…
Intrinsic quantum correlations supported by the $SU(2)\otimes SU(2)$ structure of the Dirac equation used to describe particle/antiparticle states, optical ion traps and bilayer graphene are investigated and connected to the description of local properties of Dirac bi-spinors. For quantum states driven by Dirac-like Hamiltonians, quantum entanglement and geometric discord between spin and parity degrees of freedom - sometimes mapped into equivalent low energy internal degrees of freedom - are obtained. Such \textit{spin-parity} quantum correlations and the corresponding nonlocal intrinsic stru…
We demonstrate that certain vortices in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates are non-Abelian anyons and may be useful for topological quantum computation. We perform numerical experiments of controllable braiding and fusion of such vortices, implementing the actions required for manipulating topological qubits. Our results suggest that a new platform for topological quantum information processing could potentially be developed by harnessing non-Abelian vortex anyons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates.
Transformation properties of Dirac equation correspond to Spin(3,1) representation of Lorentz group SO(3,1), but group GL(4,R) of general relativity does not accept a similar construction with Dirac spinors. On the other hand, it is possible to look for representation of GL(4,R) in some bigger space, there Dirac spinors are formally situated as some "subsystem." In the paper is described construction of such representation, using Clifford and Grassmann algebras of 4D space.
This paper reviews how a two-state, spin-one-half system transforms under rotations. It then uses that knowledge to explain how momentum-zero, spin-one-half annihilation and creation operators transform under rotations. The paper then explains how a spin-one-half field transforms under rotations. The momentum-zero spinors are found from the way spin-one-half systems transform under rotations and from the Dirac equation. Once the momentum-zero spinors are known, the Dirac equation immediately yields the spinors at finite momentum. The paper then shows that with these spinors, a Dirac field tran…
We introduce spinors, at a level appropriate for an undergraduate or first year graduate course on relativity, astrophysics or particle physics. The treatment assumes very little mathematical knowledge (mainly just vector analysis and some idea of what a group is). The SU(2)--SO(3) homomorphism is presented in detail. Lorentz transformation, chirality, and the spinor Minkowski metric are introduced. Applications to electromagnetism, parity violation, and to Dirac spinors are presented. A classical form of the Dirac equation is obtained, and the (quantum) prediction that $g=2$ for Dirac particl…
We study the relations of the positive frequency mode functions of Dirac field in 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime covered with Rindler and Kasner coordinates, and describe the explicit form of the Minkowski vacuum state with the quantum states in Kasner and Rindler regions, and analytically continue the solutions. As a result, we obtain the correspondence of the positive frequency mode functions in Kasner region and Rindler region in a unified manner which derives vacuum entanglement.
We consider the interaction of two weak probe fields of light with an atomic ensemble coherently driven by two pairs of standing wave laser fields in a tripod-type linkage scheme. The system is shown to exhibit a Dirac-like spectrum for light-matter quasi-particles with multiple dark-states, termed spinor slow-light polaritons (SSP). They posses an "effective speed of light" given by the group-velocity of slow-light, and can be made massive by inducing a small two-photon detuning. Control of the two-photon detuning can be used to locally vary the mass including a sign flip. This allows e.g. th…
Two real vector fields are revealed as spin connections of the spinor field, which is introduced as a representation of the local Lorentz group by Dirac spinors. One of these fields is identified as the Maxwell field. Another one is the axial field, which is sufficient to describe parity nonconservation effects in atoms and it is sensitive to the second internal degree of freedom of the Dirac spinor field. The polarization associated with this degree of freedom is a distinctive characteristic of the Dirac spinor field in spatially closed localized states. The short-distance behavior of the axi…
Reporting about the Wigner formalism for describing Dirac spinor structures through a covariant phase-space formulation, the quantum information quantifiers for purity and mutual information involving spin-parity (discrete) and position-momentum (continuous) degrees of freedom are consistently obtained. For Dirac spinor Wigner operators decomposed into Poincaré classes of $SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ spinor couplings, a definitive expression for quantum purity is identified in a twofold way: firstly, in terms of phase-space positively defined quantities, and secondly, in terms of the {\em spin-parity…
There are Poincare group representations on complex Hilbert spaces, like the Dirac spinor field, or real Hilbert spaces, like the electromagnetic field tensor. The Majorana spinor is an element of a 4 dimensional real vector space. The Majorana spinor field is a space-time dependent Majorana spinor, solution of the free Dirac equation. The Majorana-Fourier and Majorana-Hankel transforms of Majorana spinor fields are defined and related to the linear and angular momenta of a spin one-half representation of the Poincare group. We show that the Majorana spinor field with finite mass is an unitary…
The spinor representation of the Lorentz group does not accept simple generalization with the group GL(4,R) of general linear coordinate transformations. The Dirac equation may be written for an arbitrary choice of a coordinate system and a metric, but the covariant linear transformations of the four-component Dirac spinor exist only for isometries. For usual diagonal Minkowski metric the isometry is the Lorentz transformation. On the other hand, it is possible to define the Dirac operator on the space of anti-symmetric (exterior) forms, and in such a case the equation is covariant for an arbi…
