This paper is concerned with Darcy's law for an incompressible viscous fluid flowing in a porous medium. We establish the sharp $O(\sqrt{\e})$ convergence rate in a periodically perforated and bounded domain in $R^d$ for $d\ge 2$, where $\e$ represents the size of solid obstacles. This is achieved by constructing two boundary correctors to control the boundary layers created by the incompressibility condition and the discrepancy of boundary values between the solution and the leading term in its asymptotic expansion. One of the correctors deals with the tangential boundary data, while the other handles the normal boundary data.
We study the sharp interface limit of a non-mass-conserving Cahn--Hilliard--Darcy system with the weak compactness method developed in Chen (J. Differential Geometry, 1996). The source term present in the Cahn--Hilliard component is a product of the order parameter and a prescribed function with zero spatial mean, leading to non-conservation of mass. Furthermore, the divergence of the velocity field is given by another prescribed function with zero spatial mean, which yields a coupling of the Cahn--Hilliard equation to a non-solenoidal Darcy flow. New difficulties arise in the derivation of un…
This paper deals with the Darcy-Forchheimer problem with two kinds of boundary conditions. We discretize the system by using the finite element methods and we propose two iterative schemes to solve the discrete problems. The well-posedness and the convergence of the corresponding iterative problems are then proven. Finally, several numerical experiments are performed to validate the proposed numerical schemes.
A linear system of differential equations describing a joint motion of a thermoelastic porous body with a sufficiently large Lame's constants (absolutelty rigid body) and a thermofluid, occupying porous space, is considered. The rigorous justification, under various conditions imposed on physical parameters, is fulfilled for homogenization procedures as the dimensionless size of the pores tends to zero, while the porous body is geometrically periodic. As the results we derive Darcy's system of filtration for thermofluid, depending on ratios between physical parameters. The proofs are based on …
In this paper we study the homogenization of the Dirichlet problem for the Stokes equations in a perforated domain with multiple microstructures. First, under the assumption that the interface between subdomains is a union of Lipschitz surfaces, we show that the effective velocity and pressure are governed by a Darcy law, where the permeability matrix is piecewise constant. The key step is to prove that the effective pressure is continuous across the interface, using Tartar's method of test functions. Secondly, we establish the sharp error estimates for the convergence of the velocity and pres…
We consider the homogenization limit of the compressible barotropic Navier-Stokes equations in a three-dimensional domain perforated by periodically distributed identical particles. We study the regime of particle sizes and distances such that the volume fraction of particles tends to zero but their resistance density tends to infinity. Assuming that the Mach number is increasing with a certain rate, the rescaled velocity and pressure of the microscopic system converges to the solution of an effective equation which is given by Darcy's law. The range of sizes of particles we consider are exact…
In this paper we introduce and analyze an algorithm for continuous data assimilation for a three-dimensional Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy (3D BFeD) model of porous media. This model is believed to be accurate when the flow velocity is too large for Darcy's law to be valid, and additionally the porosity is not too small. The algorithm is inspired by ideas developed for designing finite-parameters feedback control for dissipative systems. It aims to obtaining improved estimates of the state of the physical system by incorporating deterministic or noisy measurements and observations. Speci…
This work studies the dependence of the solution with respect to interface geometric perturbations in a multiscaled coupled Darcy flow system in direct variational formulation. A set of admissible perturbation functions and a sense of convergence are presented, as well as sufficient conditions on the forcing terms, in order to conclude strong convergence statements. For the rate of convergence of the solutions we start solving completely the one dimensional case using orthogonal decompositions on appropriate subspaces. Finally, the rate of convergence question is analyzed in a simple multiple …
This paper is concerned with the large-time behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem on the two-fluid Euler-Maxwell system with collisions when initial data are around a constant equilibrium state. The main goal is the rigorous justification of diffusion phenomena in fluid plasma at the linear level. Precisely, motivated by the classical Darcy's law for the nonconductive fluid, we first give a heuristic derivation of the asymptotic equations of the Euler-Maxwell system in large time. It turns out that both the density and the magnetic field tend time-asymptotically to the diffusion equation…
In this paper, we are concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions of M1 model proposed in the radiative transfer fields. Starting from this model, combined with the compressible Euler equation with damping, we introduce a more general system. We rigorously prove that the solutions to the Cauchy problem of this system globally exist and time-asymptotically converge to the shifted nonlinear diffusion waves whose profile is self-similar solution to the corresponding parabolic equation governed by the classical Darcy's law. Moreover, the optimal convergence rates are also obtained. Compare…
In this paper, we are concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem (or initial-boundary value problem) of one-dimensional Keller-Segel model. For the Cauchy problem, we prove that the solutions time-asymptotically converge to the nonlinear diffusion wave whose profile is self-similar solution to the corresponding parabolic equation, which is derived by Darcy's law, as in [11, 28]. For the initial-boundary value problem, we consider two cases: Dirichlet boundary condition and null Neumann boundary condition on (u, ρ). In the case of Dirichlet boundary condition, sim…
In this paper we consider a class of singularly perturbed domains, obtained by attaching a cylindrical tube to a fixed bounded region and letting its section shrink to zero. We use an Almgren-type monotonicity formula to evaluate the sharp convergence rate of perturbed simple eigenvalues, via Courant-Fischer Min-Max characterization and blow-up analysis for scaled eigenfunctions.
In this article, we consider the inverse source problem arising in photoacoustic tomography in elastic media. We show that the time reversal method, proposed by Tittelfitz [Inverse Problems 28.5 (2012): 055004], converges with the sharp observation time without any constraint on the speeds of the longitudinal and shear waves.

We prove the well-posedness for the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation with soft potentials when the initial datum is close to the {\it global Maxwellian} and has only polynomial decay at the large velocities in $L^2$ space. As a result, we get the {\it propagation of the exponential moments} and the {\it sharp rates} of the convergence to the {\it global Maxwellian} which seems the first results for the original equation with soft potentials. The new ingredients of the proof lie in localized techniques, the semigroup method as well as the propagation of the polynomial and exponential moments in $L…
We investigate the large-time dynamics of solutions of multi-dimensional reaction-diffusion equations with ignition type nonlinearities. We consider solutions which are in some sense locally persistent at large time and initial data which asymptotically oscillate around the ignition threshold. We show that, as time goes to infinity, any solution either converges uniformly in space to a constant state, or spreads with a finite speed uniformly in all directions. Furthermore, the transition between these two behaviors is sharp with respect to the period vector of the asymptotic profile of the ini…
Consider two domains connected by a thin tube: it can be shown that the resolvent of the Dirichlet Laplacian is continuous with respect to the channel section parameter. This in particular implies the continuity of isolated simple eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions with respect to domain perturbation. Under an explicit nondegeneracy condition, we improve this information providing a sharp control of the rate of convergence of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in the perturbed domain to the relative eigenvalue and eigenfunction in the limit domain. As an application, we prove tha…
We investigate the sharp interface limit of a diffuse interface system that couples the Allen--Cahn equation with the instationary Navier--Stokes system in a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d \in \{2,3\}$. This model is used to describe a propagating front in a viscous incompressible flow with the width of the transition layer being characterized by a small parameter $\varepsilon>0$. We show that the solutions converge to a limit two-phase fluid system with surface tension that couples the mean curvature flow and the Navier--Stokes system. The main assumptions are that the evolution of …
This paper is the second part of the study. In Part~I, self-similar solutions of a weighted fast diffusion equation (WFD) were related to optimal functions in a family of subcritical Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities (CKN) applied to radially symmetric functions. For these inequalities, the linear instability (symmetry breaking) of the optimal radial solutions relies on the spectral properties of the linearized evolution operator. Symmetry breaking in (CKN) was also related to large-time asymptotics of (WFD), at formal level. A first purpose of Part~II is to give a rigorous justification …
We consider the sharp interface limit of a coupled Stokes/Cahn\textendash Hilliard system in a two dimensional, bounded and smooth domain, i.e., we consider the limiting behavior of solutions when a parameter $ε>0$ corresponding to the thickness of the diffuse interface tends to zero. We show that for sufficiently short times the solutions to the Stokes/Cahn\textendash Hilliard system converge to solutions of a sharp interface model, where the evolution of the interface is governed by a Mullins\textendash Sekerka system with an additional convection term coupled to a two\textendash phase stati…
We consider pointwise convergence of nonelliptic Schrödinger means $e^{it_{n}\square}f(x)$ for $f \in H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^{2})$ and decreasing sequences $\{t_{n}\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ converging to zero, where \[{e^{it_{n}\square }}f\left( x \right): = \int_{{\mathbb{R}^2}} {{e^{i\left( {x \cdot ξ+ t_{n}{{ ξ_{1}ξ_{2} }}} \right)}}\widehat{f}} \left( ξ\right)dξ.\] We prove that when $0<s < \frac{1}{2}$, \[\mathop {\lim }\limits_{n \to \infty} {e^{it_{n}\square }}f\left( x \right) = f(x) \hspace{0.2cm} a.e.\hspace{0.2cm} x\in \mathbb{R}^2\] holds for all $f \in {H^s}\left( {{\mathbb{R}^2}} \right)$ if …
In our recent work we found a surprising breakdown of symmetry conservation: using standard numerical discretization with very high precision the computed numerical solutions corresponding to very nice initial data may converge to completely incorrect steady states due to the gradual accumulation of machine round-off error. We solved this issue by introducing a new Fourier filter technique for solutions with certain band gap properties. To further investigate the attracting basin of steady states we classify in this work all possible bounded nontrivial steady states for the Allen-Cahn equation…
